Picture in Picture effect

Is there anyway to incorporate two clips into one, a la "picture-in-picture"?

Hello jmweber_1,
in iMovie that is only possible through third-party plugins. To my knowledge the only plugins working on Intel-Macs are the ones from Gee Three:
http://www.geethree.com/slick/index.html
Other (inexpensive) plugins for iMovie 6 can be found here:
cfx: http://www.imovieplugins.com/
The cfx-plugins do not work natively on Intel machines, but if you choose to get one of them (try demo version before buying), you might be able to run it under Rosetta:

I've been trying to find out a way to use a picture-in-picture effect in adobe premiere pro cs3 but it just hasn't been possible.
I know that adobe premiere elements 3.0 has that option, but I can't seem to find it in pro cs3.
Can someone give me a hand? I'd really appreciate it!

  • Picture in picture with circle effect

I am a new user to Prem Pro CS3. I have a basic clip in layer 1, I then have a second clip in layer 2 which I have resized for picture in picture, I have also rotated this. This is all fine. However I need the picture in picture to appear as a circular image - a face will appear over a watch and give our secret agents a mission. So I have added a circle effect and sized it so that it does appear correctly over the watch face once the alpha stencil is set and it does work BUT I am having great trouble positioning the image -  the image I see in the preview window shifts from when I position it to once I click away from the effects panel and where I pplace it seems to have little relation to where I actually want it. I have suceeded through trial and error but I don't understand what is going on under the hood. Can anyone help please?
    Thanks

Thanks Eddie for reading my post. I have attached the two screenshots. Click away is once I have ckicked away from the circle effect and click on circle is obviously when I have clicked on the effect control. You will see that the circle moves. Thanks

  • Creating a 50% picture in picture effect in Pr CS3

I am learning CS3 for the first time after 4 years on Avid. One of my struggles........
I need to create a split screen, equally showing 2 layers of video, a 50% picture in picture effect if you will separated by a thin black divider line. I only see the 25% PiPs on Premiere Pro and can't find any other PiPs in After Effects.
Can anyone tell me how to do this effect?
    I thank you in Advance

  • In imovie, I have greenscreen clip.  First I want to change background to solid color THEN add a picture within picture.  When I try to stack all 3, I get two but not all three.....help!  thanks!

in imovie 10.0.2, i have a green screen clip.  first i want to change background - solid color probably - but then i'd like to also add a picture within picture along side the video....have attempted to "stack" all three, and can get two out of three but not all three....what's the trick?  thanks!

In iMovie you can only do two at a time. So the work-around would be to do the green screen/change background color part. Then Share this. Then import this piece back into an event. Then add the picture in picture.
In Final Cut Pro X, you could easily do what you are describing.
The main reason is that iMovie does all rendering in one pass. Final Cut Pro X allows multiple renders as you go along, so you can do much more complex effects.

  • I cannot get transitions to apply to only the picture in picture. The transitions apply to the full screen.

When I add a picture-in-picture as a new storyline and apply a transition the effect occurs on the main story line also. For example, a page curl transition causes the whole screen to curl rather than just the picture-in-picture. I'm using FCPX version 10.1.4.
I want to be able to animate in different pictures in different parts of the screen it looks horrible with the effects applying to all the different pictures.

All due respect to Mr. Wolsky.  I have gotten this to work with many of the transitions.
Create a compound clip, open in the timeline and apply the transition(s).
Go back in the main timeline, make a storyline out of your compound clip.  Making it a storyline is what did the trick for me.  A compound clip alone would still have a full screen transition
I've had multiple PIPs doing cube transitions.  It should work for you
Is this what you're trying to do?   https://www.dropbox.com/s/mw51rs3dysd54cl/Transitions.mov?dl=0

  • Picture-in-picture: how do you distort the angle?

    Hi,
I used to do this all the time in FCP 3. But for the life of me, I can't figure out how to do it in 5.0.
I want to change the aspect angle of a picture-in-picture, not just rotate it. I want to make it seem like the picture is at an angle from the viewer, as if the image was on a wall along the road with closer side larger than farther side. A foreshortnening effect.
    Thanks

    Hi DH.
Thanks a bunch. I was entering the amounts of distortion thru the motion tab like you suggested as plan B. but that takes forever. Good thing Coast to Coast is on!
I'll be using the distort tool from now on. A big time saver.

  • Picture in Picture or the like of, possible?

I have the latest version of both iMovie and Final Cut Express HD. I enjoy making videos and often do so for my church, school, etc. I was using Cyberlink PowerDirector on Windows and Pinnacle 8. On those programs you can layer videos and photos to create a "picture in picture" like effect. I was wondering if that is possible on Final Cut Express HD or iMovie. I used that feature alot and while I have quite a bit of training on iMovie, I have very little on Final Cut. If anyone could help, it's much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    mackingtawsh

Forget everything you know about iMovie if you want to learn Final Cut.
The tutorials that came with the software are a wonderful place to start. Tom Wolsky has a book out that is also recommended.
I'm sure a helpful person will jump in here and offer up a whole host of links to other useful resources very soon.
Just to get you started, recognize there are few questions that have not been asked a few times before you arrived. The search function is a terrific resource and I encourage you to use it.

  • Picture in Picture "zooming" issue

    Hi there,
I was wondering if the following can be done. I have made a good ol' picture in picture sequence by just scaling down one video on top of another and moving it to the bottom right corner. Easy. Now, what I want to do is zoom in on the image in the smal picture (on the bottom right corner) by scaling up again. I thought I could do this by putting a mask around it with a track matte but it just scales the whole image up again instead of staying the same size.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong, how it should be done and/or if it's possible at all?
    Thanks a lot,
    Sebastiën

It's a shame Pr doesn't have a track matte effect that would make this simple.  Here's what I'd do:  Make a new Sequence with Custom settings that's 1/4 the size of your main sequence (if 1/4 is the amount of scaling for your PIP).  Put your footage in that Seq, and zoom away.  Then put that sequence as a layer in your main sequence.

  • Picture In Picture a la 24

    Hello All,
I was wondering if it is better to do a picture in picture effect in AE or Premiere.  Premiere has PiP presets.  But it seems like more complicated or animated Picture in Picture, like they did in 24, would be better done in a compositing application instead of an editing app.
    Which do you suggest??
    Thanks in Advance
    on a Mac Cs5.5

I can't remember what the Ocean Eleven opening looked like---   Here a very simple example of what I was talking about.
    http://youtu.be/6YqpUZ4veTU
Keeping the boarders a consistant size was much easier in AE as the boarders are solid layers that can be duplicated, moved/scaled, and faded as needed.  I guess I could have also tried making the boarders out of a single Shape layer with animations of the shape within it.   There are probably expressions that could make this quicker to do.
The crop feature in Pr is nice but didn't offer the flexibility of animating masks.  With Mask I could have gone further than straight Verical and Horizontal lines.
I guess, maybe the way to approach this is to first do the cell changes with Masked Solid Layers and then replace with the Solid with footage and last to add the boarders.  You also use the Write on effect to create the boards.
As someone with a lot more experience than me, I would like to know how would you suggest a project of this kind be approached.

  • Picture in Picture (Mask) Problem

    Hey guys,
I'm using a technique to mask out a watermark in a video I've been editing in iMovie. I created a black box over a transparent background in photoshop and exported it as a bunch of different image file formats. I drag it into iMovie 09 as a Picture in Picture, place it on top of my movie, delete the stupid Ken Burns effect, and it works like magic. The watermark disappears! However, my video darkens. I have no idea why it would be doing this. Is it a problem with how I'm exporting from photoshop? Any help would be much appreciated!

    Huh?
    > Is this a poblem with DW8?
Most likely not. Please list the exact steps you are taking,
    and what it is
you want to do. The simple act of inserting content into any
    container,
whether a 'layer' or a table, would not be expected to cause
    that container
to change locations on the page.
And what is the 'overflow box'? Do you mean the visibility
    column on the
    Layers panel?
As a wild guess, I would imagine what is happening is that
    you are not
inserting the image into the layer, you are REPLACING the
    layer with the
image. Did you look at the code <shudder> to see if the
    layer's markup was
    still there?

  • Pan&Zoom in Picture-in-Picture; Zoomen&Schwenken mit Bild-in-Bild; Premiere Elements 13

    Hi,
    my question is:
I want to have the Pan&Zoom-Effect (also known as Ken-Burns-Effect) in a smaller Picture in the bigger background Picture. Every time I'm using the Pan&Zoom- Tool the Picture-in-Picture Effect disappears and the smaller Picture becomes a full frame Picture.  Is it possible to have both effects in one Picture?
Thanks for your Time and Support.
    Hallo,
    meine Frage lautet:

Here are two ways in the Expert mode in the pse 11 Editor:
(it works pretty much like pse 8, except the Tool Options are at the bottom of the workspace in pse 11)
    1. Use the Custom Shape Tool and in the drop-down choose the Arrows set
Set the options for the Shape Tool to Line and use the options in the tool options bar.

  • Picture in Picture with Greenscreen possible?

    Sup!
So.. let's say I'm doing a news report and basically I have someone filmed in the bottom right of a green screen. Then I'm going to superimpose that footage with a movie clip running behind them. Then I want a completely separate movie clip(picture in picture effect) to be to the left of them in a small box. Is this possible?
Take away the green screen part and the picture in picture effect works perfectly by dragging a clip on top of another clip and clicking PICTURE IN PICTURE. If a green screen effect is already added it doesn't let me use the PICTURE IN PICTURE effect.
    This is my dilemma.
    Help!
    Thanks

    it's Green-Screen OR pic-in-pic ...-
    what you can do:
    • create as an individual 'project' your green-screen scenery.
    • choose Share/Export with Quicktime, and Option/Codec: AppleIntermediate.
    • re-import newly generated mov into your EventsLib and into your Main Project, add PIP-effect.

  • Multiclip - how to do Picture in Picture ?

Hi there, I have done s multiclip using 6 original clips/angles.
I have done all the rough cut & I think I know how to refine the cut.
But the problem is some where at the middle, I want to show some 4 clips/angles (out of the 6) simultaneously (something like picture in picture).
Any ideas from experts here on how to do the above ?
    Thank you

No I don't know how to do it as I don't know exactly what you envisage.
However, here is a suggestion that may accomplish what you want, in a roundabout sort of way.
Export your finished multiclip sequence  as a finished video.
Then import it and add the PIP effects as normal.

Thanks Ian, what i wanted to do is very simple. I wanted to select 4 out of the 6 clips/angles to be played simultaneously.
That is to say I want to display the video in a 2 x 2 rectangle with each rectangle playing one of the clip/angle.
I thought that since in Angle Editor, FCPX has already arranged all the 6 clips on top of each other, so isn't there a way we can reduce the size of each rectangle & arrange them in 2 x 2 manner ?
Or, is it really true that we cannot do PnP in multicam ?
    Thanks
