Ping and Tracert return General Failure

My PC resolves the hostname to the correct IP but my ping and tracert return error "General Failure." (and tracert immediately gives the error, indicating an issue with my machine).
I tried using a fix that I found through google, the command 'netsh winsock reset' but that was to no avail. I almost thought it worked as I could access the site after the restart, but this was while my applications were still loading. I refresh the page
and I get the Firefox cannot connect error.
This leads me to believe there may be some kind of fault on my configuration somewhere but I have no anti-virus nor firewall application running though I have however used Spybot's Search and Destroy immunizer tool, which includes modification to my HOSTS
file. Other than that I don't believe I have any application that could be causing an issue with site access.
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with SP1.

Firstly, please let me know which destination you tried to ping and tracert? Can you access this website using the IP address?
Meanwhile, please try the following to test the issue:
1. Register DNS via command on Windows 7:
    ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
2.
Reset hosts file
3. Test the issue in
Clean Boot mode to check whether this is a third party tool issue.

    Been learning the whole story to Java. So, I'm in the process of experiementing what will eventually be a Java based network utility.
    So, I want to be able to perform a trace route and a ping through ICMP.

    Also, so I understand the InetAddress object, it is not designed to create a new object by doing this correct?:

    Trying to understand the networking of Java. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Ping and Tracert does not work

    Basically I can cruise the internet just fine but i ahve been having a ton of trouble staying connected to an online game that I normally play.  When i try to ping or tracert the game server I get times outs right after I hit my Linksys WRT54G router, and when i try pinging or tracert from the Linksys router I get time outs as well.  At thsi point i thought it might have been the game servers but then discovered I couldn't ping, or tracert to either msn, microsoft or even google.
    How come or what can i check?

    Sorry i should have been more clear, the internet works fine and I can cruise websites no problem.  Lately I have been having trouble staying connected to EVE Online and was trying to do a Tracert or even Ping on the Gaming server.
    If I try a ping from my pc which is wired into the router I get Request Timed out, if I try a Tracert it hits the router at 192.168.1.1 but anything after the router times out.
    If I logon to the web UI for the router and try the Tracert and Ping utilities built in to the router (WRT54G) I get time outs as well for both Ping and Tracert.  I have tried various other sites as well as the game server that I am having trouble with and each time it comes back as Request Time Out.
    I am wondering why?

  • Email General Failure

    Hi.
    I have two personal email accounts feeding my Blackberry. One is a hotmail account and the other is gmail. They both worked fine up until yesterday, but then the hotmail one started to fail.
    Whenever I try to send an email with this account I get a red x and it says general failure. I can still recive messages, just not reply or send new messages to anyone with this account.
    My gmail account is still working completely normally. I have not made any changes to my phone except for an upgrade of the twitter app. Also I've tried taking out the battery and sim card out and rebooting.
    Any help would be appraciated.

    I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
    KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
    2) Delete and Resend Service Books
    KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
    KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
    Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
    Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should try deleting and re-adding your BIS conduits for the affected email accounts.
    Occam's Razor nearly always applies when troubleshooting technology issues!

  • General Failure on 9360

    I recently got myself a 9360 and I love the phone. I also upgraded the unit to 7.1.0.336 and it works great except one thing. I cannot seem to send or receive emails using my corporate account. The account uses BIS and I never really had problems with it when I was using my older 9300. When I migrated to the new phone using phone switch, the corporate email doesn't work anymore. Whenever I would send an email, a red X appears and it says General Failure. My Gmails work fine. I tried a number of batter pulls after I deleted and recreated the account on my phone and still nothing. I even tried resending the service books and still nothing. I even have full access to my BIS through my subscriber and recreated my email there and still nothing. I'm considering doing a wipe but that's a little harsh. Any ideas? I don't know what to do, actually. Please help me!

    Please ensure that the old email that is not working is deleted before you run the email set up to re set the same email. It is the only way to have it reconfigured to the device. The settings and information needed by the email set up may vary depending on the company's email settings. You may also try contacting your IT or another person in your office who has done this before..

    yes that is what I mean. And you cannot figure out if this is happening or not. Don't rely on the wireless connection icon on windows.
    It can be possible that your wireless adapters notices that the RF is busy and there were a few packet drops so it reconnects quickly. It's usually transparent to applications but if you are running a ping at that time ...
    In any case, conclusion is : check your RF environment. How many APs around ? a lot of traffic ?

    Event Viewer \Windows Logs \Application ,System ,Setup
    Please also check the update history for any failed update.
    We can take the folowing steps to have a troubleshoot :
    1.Reinstall the network adapter driver from the device manager .It is recommended to download the driver from the manufacturer website.
    2.Run the built-in troubleshoot to have a check .
    Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\Network and Internet\Network Adapter,Internet Connections
    3.Run the following command line to reset the TCP/IP stack.
    ipconfig /flushdns (Clear the dns cache)
    nbtstat -RR (release and refesh NetBIOS names)
    netsh int ip reset (reset ip settings)
    netsh winsock reset (Reset Winsock Catalog)
    Reboot
    4.If the issue persists,perform a system restore to recover the machine to a previous point .(Search system restore directly)

    what do you see under "show interface status" of the switch when the issue occurs?
    do you see input/output rate on that interface when the issue occurs?
    what is the spanning-tree state of that port?
    when you say you get "ping transmit failed", are you getting that error when you try to ping the PC's IP address from the PC?
    are you able to ping 127.0.0.1?
    and, what does the PC's network connection say?

  • When I click on a link in an email I always get a message 'General failure URL :.... unable to find file' and seconds later the web address opens. Is there anyway to stop this?

    I get a message saying 'General Failure. The URL was: ".........". The system cannot find the file specified' whenever I click on a link in an email and then seconds later the web site opens. If I open firefox and then click a bookmark or search I don't have a problem

  • After updating to Firefox 3.6.9, when I click on a link in Outlook email, I get a message which says "General failure. The URL was: .... An error occurred in sending the command to the applicatio." and the link will not open. How can I fix this?

    I updated Firefox yesterday to 3.6.9. When I receive a URL link in an email within Outlook, I cannot open the link in Firefox. As I said in the question, when I click on the link, a Microsoft Office Outlook error message appears which states that a General failure has occurred in sending the command to the application (which is Firefox). I am using Office 2007 This did not occur prior to the upgrade of Firefox.

    I get a general failure when I click on links in my email. "General Failure" is followed by a link and I have to click ok to get rid of it. This happens every time I click on a link in my email. I've turned my computer on and off several times, but it persists. It's very annoying and I'm considering returning to Internet Explorer because of it.

    This is a known bug, and has been for years. It occurs when Firefox is your default browser and some glitch (or program) changes that default. Thankfully, there's a fairly easy fix, though it does involve monkeying around in the Registry.
    (Note: These instructions apply to Windows Vista and 7 only.)
    1. Click Start, type regedit, and then press Enter.
    2. Navigate to the following entry: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxURL\shell\open\ddeexec
    3. In the center pane, double-click the Default entry, then remove whatever value is there (it'll probably be a weird string of numbers and commas).
    4. Click OK, then exit Regedit.
    5. If Outlook and/or Firefox are open, close them, then restart them.

    I am using windows 7 pro this issue has drove me crazy for some time, now finally it's fixed by doing the exact same steps as above, hope this works for everybody that is having this problem. I just had to share this with my fellow firefox users. :)

    Recently my code is generating "General Failure" Exceptions at parts where the code worked a couple of days ago!
    My add-on was working perfectly before, and I haven't changed anything in it.
    It is setting a general failure exception, when i set the String property of an EditText object, and when i set a form's visible property to true.
    What could be the problem?

        While importing data of MS access file [MDB file] i am getting an error code like 0xC0202009.  The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput(). 
    I have 19k records in that only 8548 records are transferred and i get a above error message.
    If anyone knows the reason please let me know.

    The error code and error message you posted are rather general and don’t give much useful information. To make further analysis on the issue, please post the complete error messages and let us know how the package is designed.
    Besides, you can configure the Error handling of specific component in the Data Flow Task to redirect the bad rows to a flat file, and make analysis on the rows. In addition, you can also try different drivers or providers.
