Ping/latency issues.

I've recently had my line upgraded from a 500k to a 2500k ip profile, and for a short period of time it worked great, consistent speeds etc. Roughly a week ago my ip profile was lowered to 2000k, at which point I suffered frequent broadband connection drop out, phone call after phone call ensued and now my improved ip profile has returned however I am receiving in excess of 300ms ping (according to several different online testers) which has rendered almost every online application useless. Any ideas?
P.S I recently had an engineer to run teests on the line and he reported no faults, I don't understand the problem.

Hmm i've never made anything worse (as far as ping/latency) issues are concerned by restarting my router (Even though I get a 15ms ping so I wouldn't know). The only thing (which I know of) that will be disrupted by restarting your router is the DLM but that shouldn't do anything over 1 restart.
A hub reset will also force dynamic IP setting from the RAS, most if not all ping issues are to do with which RAS you are connected to, and the traffic on the backhaul.
High latency can be experienced at level 32 interleave, noticeable especially on gaming.
Dynamic Line Management runs constantly and only changes the connection if it is "flapping"...
A re-sync makes no changes to line configuration, other than to sync at the highest possible rate for the line condition.

  • Ping/Latency Issues (BT Infinity 2 + HH5)

Since the 8th of December I have been getting random ping spikes from 20ms (normal) to 600ms (unusable) and it's making online game not possible.
Does anyone else have this issue and is there a fix?
I have tried power-cycling the hub (HH5) and sitting closer to the hub (wifi) and it makes no difference.
It happens on both WIRED and WIRELESS.

    Hi
Don't switch the hh5 on / off two often as this could make the connection worse.
Sounds like the  dlm  (the dreeded line managent) has already interleaved the line & added impluse noise protection that will cause the increase in ping / lantency & reduce speeds.
Personnally I raise another fault & see if the line checks come back with anything that might need an openreach visit.
    https://www.bt.com/consumerFaultTracking/public/faults/reporting.do?pageId=21
Also check if there is anything up locally with openreach's new checker tool.
    http://www.homeandwork.openreach.co.uk/problems-with-your-phone-or-broadband/search.aspx
If the test come back with no fault found, then possibly research using a openreach modem with the hh5 or get a 3rd party non-bt all-in-one.
Happy Xmax/ hoildays dispite the connection mischief.

  • BT Infinity Connection Issue/ frequent ping latenc...

Hi. I'm getting frequent latency over past few month. had Already spoken to agencies about the issue, but no reslovation appeared. So, hopefully, I can get some answer here. Btw, I already tried to switch between channels, reset to factory setting, turn off 5Ghz, it still doesn't work.
The ping latency happen randomly almost everyday in certain times of a day, last around 10 minutes. I got some proves showing the situation exactly at that time.

Can you run this checker and post back a screen shot of the results
    http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome
and use this speed tester then carry out the further diagnostics and post back a screen shot of all the results including your IP profile for up and down. This test must be done with a wired connection.

if you have a Homehub 5 can you also post the stats from 1-12 by logging onto the homehub management pages then troubleshooting > helpdesk. http://bthomehub.home/

  • Snow Leopard - Latency issues when waking from sleep

I own two macs ('09 mini and unibody macbook), both of which connect wirelessly to an airport extreme N router. Since upgrading to Snow Leopard I have been dealing with terrible latency issues when the computers wake from sleep. Ping times from local servers increase from around 23ms to 220ms and webpages load slowly. A quick reboot solves the issue. Connecting directly to the airport extreme with a patch cable also solves the latency issue so I know it's just with wireless.
Has anyone else experienced this problem since upgrading and, if so, what are you doing to solve the issue?

I use Ethernet so I cannot comment but have you tried trashing the airport pref.plist and removed the preferred networks in the network set up in System Preferences and then set up the wifi connection again?
This seems to help with a lot of airport problems on this forum.

  • High latency issue of an evening whilst gaming.

Hiya`s Peeps, Having recently switched to BT from Virgin (this being only my third day as a customer) as the VM service for gaming in my area (Sth Manchester) on thier 50mb package was simply not viable due to over utilisation issues, I now find myself experiencing high latency issues with my BT service.
All three evenings have been lost to me as my in game latency (World of Warcraft) has rose upto 3500ms with occasional disconnections.
Also strange was that was after the BB was first switched on I had a consistent in-game latency of 24ms home and 24ms world, this lasted around 8 hours until I experienced my first lag spike, I was disconnected and when I eventually was able to get back in game, some 20 minutes or so later, my home and world latency had changed to 42/45 (still playable ) but every 10 to 15 minutes the world latency would again rise to around 3k and above and I would again be disconnected from the server.
I do apologise for the lack of any technical detail within this post as I simply do not understand such and struggle terribly with it, I am very happy with both my speed and ping tests, both being excellent in comparison to that that I would see when using the VM service.
What I am after I guess is advice from the community on how to get the best from BT bb for playing my online game, this connection is only used for World of Warcraft and very light reading on the www, I do not have a phone connected to this line and use no wireless connections with it at all, this PC (hard wired) is the only contraption connected.
Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated, Thankyou
    Les

    welcome to the forum
there is a 10 day training period after your connection is activated during which time you need to leave the router connected with no manual resets.  The router may reset (often) during training but that is normal as the equipment in the exchnage tries to find the best stable connection for your line.
after the training period is complete and you have a stable connection then you can get the latency changed to 'fast' if yours latency is 'interleaved'  changing to fast can make your line less stable than interleaved but it is the choice of gamers

  • T530 and win8 latency issues

I have a Thinkpad T530 (2392-3JG) with a clean installation of Windows 8. I have been experiencing some gaming issues, when once in a while my ping rises to 500ms. I tested the issue by pinging my default gateway, and the lowest ping was 3ms, climbing to 500ms once every 15 seconds or so. I tried the same test on my win7 installation on another partition (but on the same machine), it does something similar, while ping jums "only" to about 300ms. On my sister's computer I get a constant 1ms ping to my default gateway, as it should. Therefore I think the problems must be somewhere in the drivers.
I downloaded the Intel Wireless LAN (11agn) drivers from this site: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT072084

I followed these steps and my latency issue did improve by about 20% - 25% so thank you, I'm now getting a PING of around 75ms - 80ms.
But I would also like to know if there are any changes I can make to the WGA600N Gaming Adapter that would decrease my PING time even further.
Since I decreased the Beacon Interval and Threshold values on the router, should I also decrease them on the advanced settings page of the gaming adapter?
On this advanced settings page there are also the options of Aggregation enabling, Short GI enabling, and Extra Wireless Protection -- Which of these boxes, if any, should I have checked?
Also, should Frame Bursting be enabled on the router, and would enabling DMZ or QoS help any?  If so, would I want to put the gaming adapter's IP address/MAC address into the DMZ/QoS or the PS3's IP address/MAC address?
Thank you for any further assisstance you can lend!

  • VPN latency issue

    Hi,
I have a client who tries to connect through Cisco VPN client but he faces a latency issue. When he connects through VPN his download becomes 1Mbps and his internet speed is 15Mbps.He tried to ping to my gateway where the VPN terminates on ASA both by connecting to VPN and by disconnecting from VPN .i.e., Internet. He observed that the ping response is around 750ms when he tries through VPN and it is 15ms when he does it without connecting through VPN.He even tried using Anyconnect but he faces the same issue.
I am not sure where exactly the problem could be.
He is facing this issue randomly in a day and it just gets normal after sometime.
Can someone give me any kind of idea where to look for.

easiest to troubleshoot from the client, start checking the client's Jabber logs and run wireshark

  • Latency issue for Voip

    Hi,
We have a latency issue relative to voice traffic and we need your help to lower the latency.
    Here?s the situation:
we have a Cisco router (c2801-entservicesk9-mz.124-8.bin) connected to an agilent hardware that?s a traffic generator. The Cisco router is an access router for customers who are connecting to the ISP. This access router needs to apply marking and shaping for different products that the ISP is selling. For example, we have a multimedia product that needs to service both voice and data, please look at the policy named ?product_MUL_128?. When we use the traffic generator to simulate traffic for both voice and data we get latency of 50ms for voice while both equipments are directly connected. This is not acceptable for our customers since once we add others equipments the latency might end up being over 200ms!! . He?s the config on the router:
    policy-map product_MUL_128_sub
    class VO
    set dscp ef
    set cos 2
    priority 45
    police 50000 4000 1000 conform-action transmit exceed-action drop
    class D1
    set dscp af12
    set cos 5
    bandwidth 51
    class class-default
    fair-queue
    random-detect dscp-based
    set dscp default
    policy-map product_MUL_128
    class ALL
    shape average 128000
    service-policy product_MUL_128_sub
We believe the problem is due to the shaping we?re doing on the router to limit the BW the customer can use. Please let us know how we can improve the latency taking into consideration our configuration.
Note : when we use 'shape peak 128000' for example it shapes on 256000 (because peak = cir * (1+be/bc)).
    Regards, Ahmed.

Try toggling wmm settings on client.
disable powersave on client, if not already.
to eliminate client side issue, try with different model client.
if 2.4 used, disable all lower rates.
fyi, ping traffic on WLC is considered best effort.

  • Network Printer Latency issue

    Dear All,
i am posting for the first time in this forum, i usually go through other peoples similar issues and see the solution they are provided, but this time i have failed and decided to ask my own question,
i am taking care of a small network in our office, we have about 20 users connected and 5 printers on the network, but lately we have latency issues when printing something from any computer to any printer on the network, it will take  4-15 minutes
untill the document is printed out, weather a page of text or anything smaller,
i have everything connected to a Dlink DGS 1210-48 Gigabit switch, i have tried changing the cable to the printers, i have updated and reinstalled drivers still no luck,
and i have noticed that its not the driver problem because when i ping the printer ips it gives me a consistent <1ms reply and then suddenly there is one destination host unreachable reply then it proceeds with <1ms reply for maybe 1 or 2 minutes then
    again destination host unreachable reply,
please if any suggestions i will really appreciate

    Hi,
For this problem, its hard to identify where the problem it is, but firstly, it would be better to confirm if it is every client PC had this problem.
Then check Firewall settings if it caused the problem.
If we still couldn't find the reason of this problem, it would be better to use Netowrk Monitor to capture network trace if it is DNS resolution or other unknown reason cause the problem.
Using Network Monitor to capture trace, you can set filter to IP address, then make a trace both Client PC and the computer which connect with printer.

  • Infinity latency issue (Evening) - NI

    Hi all,
I am currently having issues with our Infinity with regards to our ping/latency (I see other forum users are not that far off with related issues) and any help would be appreciated. The issue has being ongoing for the last few weeks causing online gaming to become hugely frustrating as a FPS gamer. Our Infinity is FTTC only with Copper to the house with the BT cabinet located on the street behind us (Aprrox. 300 yards) and currently run a Homehub 2 with the Openreach modem on the unlimited Infinity package (2?).
I have being monitoring our ping over the last number of nights, and as like a few other forum users, my issue seems to arise in the evening so far - 6:30PM onward (I will have to monitor weekends during the day and night).
Ping to UK and EU servers used to be great, always on the good side of 35ms. Now, EU servers has turned into a lag fest after 6:30PM and my ping can be anywhere from 70/80ms to 120ms depending on the night and UK servers has crept up to around 50ms and a bit more at times.
I have done the BT wholesale speed tests and the results are below:
As an example below is a trace route done on a COD German server done before 6:30PM tonight:

I know this isn't what you are going to want to hear, but BT are responsible for everything up to roughly hop 7. Hop 8 could possibly belong to BT but hop 9 appears to have crossed into the ownership of dtag.de (Deutsche Telecom). This probably means the problem is either the link between Deutsche telecom and BT, or more likely, a problem within Deutsche telecom themselves.
I don't think BT will be able to help you with this.
When you are getting the issue on the German COD server, can you try quitting and connecting to a UK COD server to see if you have the same issue. I am fairly certain you won't have the same problem as you won't be routing through the faulty equipment.
I noticed you also mentioned above that in the evening the UK servers creep up a little. Can you try using WinMTR to run a trace and post the results in here. Should also help identify where in the UK the issue is happening.

  • Latency issue Logic pro 9.1.3.

    Hey,
At the same time as upgrading to Logic from Garageband
I bought a Cakewalk Roland UA25EX ext usb soundcard because i was told
i'd have latency issues if i used the caps lock keyboard for midi
or direct input thru the input jack of
    my MacBookPro
    (5,3 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8 GHz)
Sometimes i use the caps lock keyboard to sketch in midi ideas and mostly it's ok.
Other times it's delayed and there's no smile on my face.
When recording with guitars/303/generators DI thru the soundcard
I have latency issues that don't seem to be very regular.
    Sometimes it's worse than others.
I make sure i have nothing else running on the computer,
just Logic Pro 9.1.3, so it's not like i'm overloading macbrains.
I have tried all the rebooting, i/o buffer size changing (down to 256), headfones from the mac output/headfones from the soundcard/ etc
    but still no luck.
I can record with the low latency button on
and it's kind of better, nearly, but that means i don't get to record with the effects on the channel strip
that affects the recording/playing quite a lot, as i'm used to recording with effects/guitar amps if i go DI.
This was the selling point - that i could record DI wthout disturbing Thee Neighbours.
It seems to have gotten worse recently.
I wonder if it's been corrupted somehow because it also has been acting funny when i bounce down -
the play head is set to 1111 and i save - then in the bounce window
the start position says a silly random number and it takes a few attempts of fiddly changes to get it to stay at 1111...frustration!
Is there something i can do or is this normal? -
it seems weird that a Pro app that cost me so much £s wouldn't work in a simple recording/bounce down set up?
or has anyone else had this problem and fixed it?
If i wipe Logic and install again would i have to go from my Logic Express and then up to my Logic Pro upgrade/extension again?
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    Hey Fox,
Thanks for that info -well umm, yes i installed the correct drivers.
I use just the AU plugins or the basic logic ones on the channel strip
but even when i was going in dry there was still a delay.
I had experimented with the buffer size, as mentioned, but not gone down that low cus
last time i tried that i had other strange things happen!
    But i will try again.
Sample rate was at zero, btw. Always says zero.
But today, when i just opened logic, the sample rate had changed. Strange. I need to understand this side of things so i'm gonna read up.
Also, if plugins are involved, i installed some novation bass station and some freeware TAL bass synth
stuff recently but don't have them up when i'm recording.
Maybe they sit there quietly and interfere just by their facial expressions or sumthing!!
I booted Mr MBP just now and i pulled out the USB and he's shining me a big ole red optical light
    out of his output jack!!
In SysPrefs it has only optical digital as an output option.
In the last few days as i was playing around trying to correct the latency issue i noticed that the output options had changed to the UA25 and the 'digital optical' options - rather than the UA25 and 'line out'.
I'm off to go and read up on how to get my line out back, and try this buffer thing again.
    Thanks again

  • Video Latency Issue On The Mac Book Pro 2.4 With Leopard 10.5.5

Gear: Macbook Pro (early 2008 model) - 2.4gigs cpu 2gigs ram - all the latest updates... no other applications running during the test
Hi folks. Currently I am having a latency issue when trying to record directly into iMovie using the built-in microphone and iSight camera. Basically, the video seems 5 - 7 frames late to the audio. I found that a good way to demonstrate this issue was simply doing a few handclaps as a test.
This is a quick handclap test displaying some video latency during recording with the iSight camera in iMovie 08.
    - Just download this link — and import it into iMovie 08 - Here is a link to a zip file that you can import into iMovie 08 - It's 2.5meg - .m4v export - Also it was recorded as standard format and audio midi setup app: audio was set to 44.1:
    http://www.brainbeast.com/37/clap-1-large.zip
    - Play from beginning. As soon as you hear a clap sound — pause with the space bar - then back up before the clap with the left arrows
    - Then click the right arrow several times until you hear the beginning of the clap sound ( This is the audio: start frame)
    - Now — you will notice the video still has an open hand. At this point click the right arrow, counting as you go several times until you see the hand close. This is the amount of frames that the video is late to the audio. For me it seems to be an average of about 5-7 frames late.
Unfortunately iMovie 06 nor QuickTime will not scrub audio as you go frame by frame with the arrow keys so you cannot test it there. If you have some other application such as final cut Pro, you could test it with that.
! IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PERFORM THE TEST YOURSELF:
    - Just record a new movie in iMovie 08 - using the built-in mic and i-Sight camera — and see if it is also slightly out of sync
Note: to be as fair as possible — I did a slow handclap ( in order to not challenge the frame rates) - also, in order to get the maximum volume I used an open palm ( clap on the palms with your fingers spread out as you can see I did.)
Please let me know if this latency appears to be the same for you as it does for me.
Q: Is it just my machine or does it happen to you too?
Q: Does anyone know a way around this latency issue?
Q: Does anyone know if Apple is aware of this latency issue?

I am experiencing the same incredibly frustrating problem as well. When I record directly into iMovie
'08, the video lags the audio by a fraction of a second.
I have tried shutting down all other applications and having only iMovie up. Same problem.
I tried recording the video into QuickTime instead of iMovie and experienced the same problem. (Which makes me think it is perhaps a hardware or operating system issue.)
I tried the technique suggested here and on other sites of "double-dragging" the clip from the Events pane into a project (one normal drag and one Shift+Cmd drag) so that I had the audio and video as two separate tracks. After muting the audio on the video track, I then attempted to slide the audio over to sync it with the video, but even down at the 1/2 second zoom setting I didn't seem to have enough granularity to move the audio so that it was exactly in sync with the video. I was wishing I could use the arrow keys or something like that to move the audio just one frame at a time.
All I want to do is record a video directly into iMovie '08 - this would seem to be something trivial to do!

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
