Ping not using FQDN

Hello,
I'm having an issue with one user (Windows 7 32bit, IE 9) that when he tries to ping one of our servers, for example:  ping can6800vm031.  It pings can6800vm031.abc.com instead of pinging can6800vm031.na.abc.net (abc is our company name).
This happens for all of our servers.  If anyone else tries, it pings the correct address, .na.abc.net.  I can't find any other different with this users laptop, he's logged into the same domain, .na.abc.net, he's using the same proxy script in IE,
and he's using the same VPN connection.
This is causing all kinds of app connectivity issues through IE as it keeps going to .abc.com.  I got him around it by specifying the FQDN in IE, but I want to resolve the issue, not just patch it.
Why is it going to .abc.com instead of .na.abc.net?  Is there a setting hardcoded somewhere that I can change through the command prompt?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Andre

Hello everyone and thanks for the tips!  I resolved the problem with these steps:
1. I went into each adapter (wired and wireless) under the properties for TCP/IPv4->Advanced->DNS and noticed that the suffixes were listed in an order instead of having the option above selected: Append primary and connection specific DNS suffices
and Append parent suffixes of the primary DNS suffix.
2.  After selecting those two options for both adapters, I flushed the DNS (ipconfig /flushdns).
3.  Tried a ping to the server in question to make sure it was resolving properly.
4.  Cleared the cache from IE.
5.  Restarted IE and was able to connect to the server without issue.
Thanks for everyones help!
Andre

  • Cisco ISE - Not use FQDN in url-redirect parameter

    Hi,
    I am using Cisco ISE Central Web Authentication for Guest Wireless. Clients are redirected for web authentication to: https://ip:port/guestportal/gateway?sessionId=SessionIdValue&action=cwa as it is specified by the url-redirect parameter in the Authorization Profile.
    The “ip” field in the url is now replaced by the FQDN of the Cisco ISE, but I want to use the IP address instead of the FQDN. Is there any way to do that?
    As far as I know in version 1.2 you can use the “ip host/no ip host” command to indicate what you want to use in the URL. However my Cisco ISE is running version 1.1.1.268.
    Thank you very much.
    Joana.

    Available in 1.2, and available as a "bit of a bodge" in 1.1.x  (read "a lot of a bodge")
    If you only have one PSN then you may be able to get it to work, but after that you lose the ability to get the session to be pointed automatically at whichever PSN they hit initially so it would break.
    Copy the settings that are applied when you use CWA, then create your own based on the same settings but using the ip address pasted in there instead.

  • URL and Hostname of an entry in SLD do not show FQDN -  ??

    check out the screenshot here:
    http://img247.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sldos0.jpg
    All systems in our SLD look like that - they do not show fully qualified domain names for URL and Host.  And I don't mean in the display of the hyperlink only, because the link target itself does not use FQDN either.
    anyone know where SLD pulls the URL and Host info from??

    I found the answer myself.  The popup help wasn't working on my system because of weirdness on my laptop.  After I rebooted the help properly displayed the answer.
    SystemHome
    The name of the computer system that is most important for the system. By convention, the database host name is used. In the Java environment, the value can be got from the system property SAPDBHOST. This property is a part of the compound name of class SAP_J2EEEngineCluster. By default, host names in SLD are written lower case without any network domain.

  • IP address not used correctly at RT Ping Controllers.vi

    It seems to me that the IP address provided to RT Ping Controller.vi and RT Reboot Controller is not used correctly.
    What I do is: Set the Subnet flag true and give a numerical IP adress to RT Ping Controller.vi
    What I get is the controller information for the controllers on the subnet, even if the IP does NOT match.
    Why do I do this? I want to acquire the MAC of the controller specified by the IP to use it for the reset vi.
    What I do second is: Set the subnet flag true and give an IP address to RT Reboot Controller.vi and provide a MAC address. The IP address does not match to the controller with the MAC given. The controller with the MAC reboots, independent of having a different IP.
    What is going
    on here and how can I get the correct MAC for an IP easily (i.e., without looking it up in MAX and typing it in somewhere)?

    Try setting the Local Subnet value to FALSE and pass in the IP you want to ping. You should get just details back on the target you specified, including it's MAC address. If the IP isn't a valid RT target, you will get an error.
    When Local subnet is set to TRUE, it will attempt to ping all controllers on the local subnet (regardless of the IP address passed in)--requiring you to search the resulting array for the IP you are interested in (and yep.. it might not be there).

Everything was working fine, but after upgrades to the latest support package stack SP18, we ran into some odd behavior. Some of the contents on the iview are blank when using FQDN load balancer URL e.g. http://sap1234.corp.com/irj/portal .  But those blank contents does show up if we donu2019t use FQDN e.g. http://sap1234./irj/portal .  At this point we are not sure where to start troubleshooting?

    I want to change Router2's Operating Mode from "Gateway" to "Router" because I
    want to turn off NAT on Router2 so that I can access all computers attached to
    Router2 by their individual IP instead of using port forwarding at Router2.
    The problem is after the mode change from "Gateway" to "Router", and regardless
    whether I disable RIP or enable RIP, and on what interfaces it is enabled, computer
    192.168.2.160 does not have internet connection.
    Observations:
    [0] INTRAnet works as I can reach computer 192.168.2.160 from computer behind Router1
    192.168.1.x and vice versa.
    [1] ping and traceroute *work* on Router2 itself using the built-in dianostic tool.
    [2] nslookup on computer 192.168.2.160 always works on new lookup. It uses
    192.168.2.1 as the resolver.
    [3] tcptraceroute stops after step 2:
    [pre]
    # tcptraceroute yahoo.com
    Selected device enp2s0, address 192.168.2.160, port 45999 for outgoing packets

     2  192.168.1.1  1.342 ms  0.964 ms  0.867 ms
     3  * * *
    [/pre]
    [4] tcpdump shows that computer 192.168.2.160 tries to reach out and nothing is returned:
    [pre]
    13:34:03.172828 IP 192.168.2.160.45999 > 98.139.183.24.http: Flags [S], seq 1122548929, win 0, length 0

    [/pre]
    This is not expected because NAT to internet should still be done by Router1, no? Computer
    behind Router1 with IP 192.168.1.x has internet connection.
    [5] It looks like I cannot change the Routing Table Entry on Router2. I do not think I need to change anything,
    just an observation.
    [6] If I use LAN to LAN connection, then both intranet and internet works. [The internet IP of Router2 can be
    anything not in the same subnet of the Router1, and DHCP on the local side should be disabled to avoid conflict
    with the the DHCP on Router1].

    I have a question. Unfortunately in order to ask my question, I have to have a lengthy description of my setup. Basically, I have a second Linksys router in "router" operating mode with NAT disabled connected to the Verizon router, and I have a computer which is in a different subnet (192.168.2.x) behind the Linksys router. This computer can communicate with computers behind Verizon router in subnet (192.168.1.x), but cannot reach internet. This is a simplified version of my question, full details are in the original post.
    If I setup the Linksys router in "gateway" operating mode, which means with NAT enabled, then both intranet and internet works, but there is no easy way to setup port forwarding for 10 compueters in 192.168.2.x network to communicate with 10 computers in 192.168.1.x network.
    If I setup the Linksys router in a LAN to LAN configuration with Verizon routers, but this way all computers are in the same subnet, I want them to be in different subnet for access control and things like that.
    I hope this makes things a little clear.
    Thanks.

  • Ping application using runtime.exce(pingComand)

    Hi,
    I am writing an application that is going to automate the ping command. I am not using the isReachable() because the server that i will be testing my machines have the firewall - and i have tested the code works and does what it is supposed to do.
    I am using the:
    Runtime r = Runtime.getRuntime();
    Process p = r.exec(pingCmd);
    where i am pinging, and getting the result from the dos:
    InputStreamReader(p.getInputStream()));
    and then changing the gui appropriattly (red == dead, green ==alive). The code is working, but the gui does not get updated until the last process (ping) has been executed. As i am pinging about 20 machines, it is taking a long time for the gui to be updated.
    I want to update the gui after[u] (or maybe during the ping as well ==yellow) each i get the result of the r.exec(pingCmd);, is there a way to make any threads sleep or, i am stuck.
    Regards,
    Amir

    This is the method that i am using to do a ping, and then read the text returned (as would be seen on does when you do a 'ping ipAddress').
    public String doPingCMD(String sIP) {
              String ip = sIP;
              String pingResult = "";
              String pingCmd = "ping " + ip;
              try {
                        Runtime r = Runtime.getRuntime();
                        Process p = r.exec(pingCmd);
                        BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new
                        InputStreamReader(p.getInputStream()));
                        String inputLine;
                        while ((inputLine = in.readLine()) != null) {
                                  pingResult += inputLine;
                        in.close();
              catch (IOException e) {
                        System.out.println(e);
              return pingResult;
    This is doing a ping and returning the accurate text but it only does this one at a time. So imagin when i am having to do the same thing (one after another for 20 maichines (20 ip addresses) - it is taking very long - and the gui does not get updated untile the very last ping executes.

  • Windows File Share not using Correct NIC Interface.

    Hi
    I have Windows 2012 R2 server with two 1gb NICs.  I want to use NIC1 for the regular network traffic/Internet and the NIC2 for database traffic.  NIC1 has IP Addresses of 64.141.xxx.xxx (I am not showing the last 6 digits for security reasons)
    and 192.168.10.21.  NIC2 has the IP Address of 192.168.11.2.
    The Workstation accessing this server also has two NICS.  NIC1 has the IP address of 64.141.xxx.xxx and 192.168.10.22.  NIC2 has the IP Address of 192.168.11.4.
    I created a share on the server myDataShare$.  On the Workstation I access the share using \\192.168.11.2\myDataShare$ and everything works accept that the data from the share is sent across NIC1 but I want it to go over NIC2.  If I add static
    routes to both machines it makes no difference all network traffic always goes out on NIC1 for both machines.
    If look at the status of each NIC on the send and receive bytes only NIC1 show any traffic.  NIC2 is silent.  How do I get traffic for the 192.168.11.0/24 subnet to use NIC2?
    The strange thing is that if I ping a 192.168.11.0/24 address it goes over NIC2 but file sharing seems to ignore NIC2 altogether.
    Thanks,
    Simon

    Hi Simon,
    Windows Vista and later are based on the strong host model. In the strong host model, the host can only send packets on an interface if the interface is assigned the source
    IP address of the packet being sent. Also the concept of a primary IP address does not exist.
    If the program specifies a source IP address, that IP address is used as the source IP address for connections sourced from that socket and the adapter associated with that
    source IP is used as the source interface. The route table is searched but only for routes that can be reached from that source interface.
    You can try to set the “skipassource” flag ,by using this flag, the added new addresses are not used for outgoing packets unless explicitly set for use by outgoing packets.

  • I am having a data excess usage issue with my Jetpack although I did not use the VZW network at all.

    Background: My home does not have access to landline internet and I am relying on a Verizon Jetpack device rather than satellite cable for internet access.  Within my JetPack wireless network I have several devices connected, iPADs, PC’s, printer, etc. (up to 5 devices can be connected with my system).  Recently, I had one device within my immediate wireless network that I needed to transfer data via FTP to another local device within my immediate network.  The receiving device FTP’d data from device (198.168.1.42) to local IP (address 192.168.1.2).  To understand the data path a Trace rout for this transfer is 198.168.1.42 (source) to 198.168.1.1 (Jetpack) to 192.168.1.2 (receiver).  Note that the VZW network ((cloud)/4G network) was NOT used in this transfer nor was any VZW bandwidth used for this transfer (of course less the typical overhead status/maintenance communications that happen regardless). Use of the VZW bandwidth would be something like downloading a movie from Netflix, (transferring data from a remote site, through the VZW network, into the Jetpack and to the target device).  I also understand if ones devices have auto SW updates that would also go against the usage as well.  I get that.  My understanding of my usage billing is based data transfer across the VZW network.
    Now to the problem: To my surprise I was quite substantially charged for the “internal” direct transfer of this data although I didn’t use the VZW network at all.  This does not seem to be right, and doesn’t make much sense to me.  Usage is should be based on the VZW network not a local Wi-Fi.  In this case, Verizon actually gets free money from me without any use of or impact to the VZW network.  Basically this is a VERY expensive rental for the jetpack device, which I bought anyway.  Considering this, I am also charged each time I print locally.  Dive into this further, I am also interested in knowing what is the overhead (non-data) communications between the jetpack router and devices and how much does that add up to over time?
    Once I realized I was getting socked in bandwidth, as a temp solution I found an old Wi-Fi router, created a separate Wi-Fi network off the Jetpack, but the billing damage was already done.  Switching each device back and forth to FTP and print is a hassle and there should be no reason the existing hardware couldn’t handle this and charges aligned with VSW usage. Is purposely intended by Verizon? Is this charging correct? And can I get some help with this?
    Logically, usage should be based on VZW network usage not internal transfers.  All transfers between IP addresses 192.168 are by default internal.  Any data that needs to leave the internal network are translated in to the dynamic IP addresses established by the VZW network.  That should be very easily detected for usage. In the very least, this fact needs to be clearly identified and clarified to users of the Jetpack.  How would one use a local network and not get socked with usage charges?  Can one set up a Wi-Fi network with another router, hardwire directly from the router to the Jetpack so that only data to and from the VZW network is billed? I might be able to figure out how to have the jetpack powered on but disable the VZW connection, but I don’t want to experiment and find out that the internal transfers are being logged and the log sent after the fact anyway once I connect…. A reasonable solution should be that users be able to use the router functions of the Jetpack (since one has to buy the device anyway) and only be billed for VZW usage.
    Your help in this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Can you help please?

    Thanks King_Penguin for taking time to read and reply.
    I just purchased this movie on Thursday, May 15, so just a few days ago.  I have never had any trouble whatsoever since I have been in Vietnam.  I have downloaded several movies and even music and they have all synced to my respected Apple products except for this purchase.
    Sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean by studios and different versions.  Could you please explain?
    I checked my purchased list in my purchase history under my account and there are no hidden items.

  • Media Encoder CC not using GPU acceleration for After Effects CC raytrace comp

    I created a simple scene in After Effects that's using the raytracer engine... I also have GPU enabled in the raytracer settings for After Effects.
    When I render the scene in After Effects using the built-in Render Queue, it only takes 10 minutes to render the scene.
    But when I export the scene to Adobe Media Encoder, it indicates it will take 13 hours to render the same scene.
    So clearly After Effects is using GPU accelleration but for some reason Media Encoder is not.
    I should also point out that my GeForce GTX 660 Ti card isn't officially supported and I had to manually add it into the list of supported cards in:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CC\Support Files\raytracer_supported_cards.txt
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder CC\cuda_supported_cards.txt
    While it's not officially supported, it's weird that After Effects has no problem with it yet Adobe Media Encoder does...
    I also updated After Effects to 12.1 and AME to 7.1 as well as set AME settings to use CUDA but it didn't make a difference.
    Any ideas?

    That is normal behavior.
    The "headless" version of After Effects that is called to render frames for Adobe Media Encoder (or for Premiere Pro) using Dynamic Link does not use the GPU for acceleration of the ray-traced 3D renderer.
    If you are rendering heavy compositions that require GPU processing and/or the Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing, then the recommended workflow is to render and export a losslessly encoded master file from After Effects and have Adobe Media Encoder pick that up from a watch folder to encode into your various delivery formats.

    Thank you, "the-edmeister" -- You render a great service, one that lifts my spirits.
    Your answer also taught me to be a little more persistent, as I had started looking at Preferences, and just didn't notice the icons (including Applications) at the top of that window that would have led me to my answer.

  • Photoshop Elements 8. "Could not use Clone Stamp Tool because of a program error."  Please help.

    Photoshop Elements 8.  "Could not use Clone Stamp Tool because of a program error."  Please help.

    Try this:
    Open your picture file
    Access the clone stamp tool
    Hold down the ALT key on the keyboard and left click on the area from which you wish to clone, then release the ALT key, and click to place the pixels at the destination
    TIPS:
    It is a good idea to open a blank layer at the top in the layers palette, and do the cloning on this layer. Be sure that "sample all layers" at the top is checked. You can change the layer opacity if necessary
    Use the bracket keys next to the letter p on the keyboard to increase & decrease the size of the cursor
    Let us know  how you make out with the error message now.
