PL/SQL cursor loop...error INTO clause needed...but multiple rows
Oracle 11gR2 Linux x86_64
Hi all,
I am running the below PL/SQL block but getting the below error. From what I know, the INTO clause can only be used when a single row will be returned. In this case, I know it returns multiple rows, so why is it asking to use the INTO clause?

Need to output data to TXT with static header and footer but multiple rows
Using APEX 4.0 and 11g - The only way I could find to get data out of APEX in TXT format was to use htp.prn. I load a cursor with the data and this works fine, the problem is that I need to have the file start with a string (*:P9_HEADER_STRING*) but it can only appear once in the output.
Is there a way to add the *:P9_HEADER_STRING* to the output in a single TXT file? or is there another way I should be doing this?
This is what I have now: The *:P9_HEADER_STRING* is in the loop which I know it can't be, but I can't figure out how to concatenate this string to the output from the loop. The rank() is being used because I can only send the selected number of records, ranked from highest. (I will have to do the same thing with a footer too, but that variable isn't in here yet)
begin
-- Set the MIME type
owa_util.mime_header( 'application/octet', FALSE );
-- Set the name of the file
htp.p('Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="cra_outgoing.txt"');
-- Close the HTTP Header
owa_util.http_header_close;
-- Loop through all rows in CLIENT_TABLE
for x in (select * from (select XREF_NBR
, TOT_AMT
, '' SPOUSE_INFO
, '' PHONES
, NAME
, SURNAME
, '' MARITAL_STATUS
, '' EMPLOYER_INFO
, GENDER
, '' CO_ADDRESS
, '' PREV_ADDRESS
, POSTAL_CODE
, ADDRESS1
, '' FILLER
, rank() over (order by tot_amt desc, rownum asc) rn
from client_table c where c.File_Seq_Nbr is NULL and c.xref_nbr in (select xref_nbr from ticket_table where to_char(ticket_issue_date, 'YYYY-MM-DD') between :P7_START_DATE and :P7_END_DATE))
where rn <= :P7_NUMBER_RECORDS)
loop
-- Print out a portion of a row,
-- separated by commas and ended by a CR
htp.prn( *:P9_HEADER_STRING* || '03' || lpad(X.XREF_NBR, 12) || lpad(x.TOT_FINE_AMT, 11, '0') || '0201'|| lpad(x.NAME, 30) || lpad(x.SPOUSE_INFO, 60) || '00000000000000000000'|| x.DATE_OF_BIRTH || '0000000000000000' || x.GENDER || x.MARITAL_STATUS || lpad(x.EMPLOYER_INFO, 60) || lpad(x.CO_ADDRESS, 102) || lpad(x.ADDRESS1, 30) || lpad(x.POSTAL_CODE, 9) || lpad(x.FILLER, 21) );
end loop;
-- Send an error code so that the
-- rest of the HTML does not render
htmldb_application.g_unrecoverable_error := true;
end;Yes, I've already done that, hence this part of the code I pasted above:
begin
-- Set the MIME type
owa_util.mime_header( 'application/octet', FALSE );
-- Set the name of the file
htp.p('Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="cra_outgoing.txt"');
-- Close the HTTP Header
owa_util.http_header_close;
-- Loop through all rows in CLIENT_TABLE
-- Send an error code so that the
-- rest of the HTML does not render
htmldb_application.g_unrecoverable_error := true;
end;
I've solved my problem by loading the cursor data into a variable (inside the loop) and concatenating the header info to it (outside the loop). This works when there are only a few records but as soon as I get to 32767 bytes it's throwing an error because of the size. So that's a different issue altogether. -
Getting error while trying to delete multiple rows
Hi Experts,
Working in jdev 11.1.1.3.0 with ADF BC and rich faces.
i am trying to delete multiple records from the table, everything is working fine if i use filter or not using horizontal scroll bar of the table. if i try to delete last records on the table and the records are deleting from UI and from the DB also, but i am getting error like
ADFv:Count not find row:_$<to-calc>$_with key:oracle.jbo.key[2333] inside parent: XxwfsAvcardXXXXXXXVO1Iterator with key:null
I have changed my method with the below link
Re: JDev 11g-Multiple Row Selection Table-Ctrl+A error
but till i am getting the same error:
Method:
public void deleteRec(ActionEvent actionEvent) {
// Add event code here...
RowKeySet rowKeySet = (RowKeySet)this.embossTB.getSelectedRowKeys();
CollectionModel cm = (CollectionModel)this.embossTB.getValue();
Row specRow = null;

int listLength = 0;
ArrayList<Number> printReqLST=new ArrayList<Number>();

Can any one help me....Can any one help me...
i written logic in AM but still i am facing the same issue.

Insert multiple rows from cursor to table
Hi,
I want to insert multiple rows retrieved from cursor to a table without looping the cursor till the end of cursor.
I have the following structure, plz guide me.
Create procedure procedure_name as
cursor mycursor as
select * from table1; --returns multiple row
t_data table1%rowtype;
begin
fetch mycursor to t_data;
loop
exit when cursor not found;
insert to table2
end loop;
end procedure;
===========================
Now my cursor contains multiple records. I can iterate the records in loop and insert data to another table e.g table2 with same structure.
But I want to insert the total data at a time without looping the cursor for each data.Please suggest how to do this ?
Thanks in advance.You should be able to do it in a single statement (assuming table1 and table2 have the same columns/datatypes)
insert into table2 (select * from table1); -

Hi all,
I have a performance issue in the below code,where i am trying to insert the data from table_stg into target_tab and in parent_tab tables and then to child tables via cursor with bulk collect .the target_tab and parent_tab are huge tables and have a row wise trigger enabled on it .the trigger is mandatory . This timetaken for this block to execute is 5000 seconds.Now my requirement is to reduce it to 5 to 10 mins.
can someone please guide me here.Its bit urgent .Awaiting for your response.

ThanksIts bit urgent
NO - it is NOT urgent. Not to us.
If you have an urgent problem you need to hire a consultant.
I have a performance issue in the below code,
Maybe you do and maybe you don't. How are we to really know? You haven't posted ANYTHING indicating that a performance issue exists. Please read the FAQ for how to post a tuning request and the info you need to provide. First and foremost you have to post SOMETHING that actually shows that a performance issue exists. Troubleshooting requires FACTS not just a subjective opinion.
where i am trying to insert the data from table_stg into target_tab and in parent_tab tables and then to child tables via cursor with bulk collect .the target_tab and parent_tab are huge tables and have a row wise trigger enabled on it .the trigger is mandatory . This timetaken for this block to execute is 5000 seconds.Now my requirement is to reduce it to 5 to 10 mins.
Personally I think 5000 seconds (about 1 hr 20 minutes) is very fast for processing 800 trillion rows of data into parent and child tables. Why do you think that is slow?
Your code has several major flaws that need to be corrected before you can even determine what, if anything, needs to be tuned.
This code has the EXIT statement at the beginning of the loop instead of at the end
FETCH stg_cursor BULK COLLECT INTO v_rt_all_cols LIMIT limit_in;
vstep_no := '4';
vtable_nm := 'after fetch';
--EXIT WHEN v_rt_all_cols.COUNT = 0;
EXIT WHEN stg_cursor%NOTFOUND;
The correct place for the %NOTFOUND test when using BULK COLLECT is at the END of the loop; that is, the last statement in the loop.
You can use a COUNT test at the start of the loop but ironically you have commented it out and have now done it wrong. Either move the NOTFOUND test to the end of the loop or remove it and uncomment the COUNT test.
WHEN OTHERS THEN
ROLLBACK;
That basically says you don't even care what problem occurs or whether the problem is for a single record of your 10,000 in the collection. You pretty much just throw away any stack trace and substitute your own message.
Your code also has NO exception handling for any of the individual steps or blocks of code.
The code you posted also begs the question of why you are using NAME=VALUE pairs for child data rows? Why aren't you using a standard relational table for this data?
As others have noted you are using slow-by-slow (row by row processing). Let's assume that PL/SQL, the bulk collect and row-by-row is actually necessary.
Then you should be constructing the parent and child records into collections and then inserting them in BULK using FORALL.
1. Create a collection for the new parent rows
2. Create a collection for the new child rows
3. For each set of LIMIT source row data
a. empty the parent and child collections
b. populate those collections with new parent/child data
c. bulk insert the parent collection into the parent table
d. bulk insert the child collection into the child table
And unless you really want to either load EVERYTHING or abandon everything you should use bulk exception handling so that the clean data gets processed and only the dirty data gets rejected. -
Procedure failed while using bulk collect into clause and works with cursor
hi all,
I am using "BULK collect into" clause in my procedure and it is failing after 21 minutes and gives the error "end of file communication channel".
after this error comes when i tried to connect database it is giving following error.
ORA -01034 - Oracle not available.
ORA- 27101 - shared memory realm does not exist.
svr4- error :2 : No such file or directory.
when i use cursor instead of BULK COLLECT INTO clause it is running successful.
Following code is working with cursor.
procedure work_kiosk_full(an_jobid in number ,ac_sqlcode out varchar2 ,ac_sqlerrm out varchar2) is

shyam~Shyam,
I agree with Billy.
Why are you not using an INSERT..SELECT ?
Also, what are you trying to achieve by
- incremental commits?
- copying data from one table to another (using expensive I/O)?
- using dynamic DML?
Most of these approaches are typically wrong - and not recommended for scalable and performant Oracle applications.I could see you using a CURSOR FOR LOOP if you were changing the data being inserted in such a way that you couldn't encapsulate the changes in a query, but you are doing a straight insert into the table from your Cursor. A much more efficient way would be to use the following modifications I made to your code example:
PROCEDURE WORK_KIOSK_FULL(AN_JOBID IN NUMBER,
AC_SQLCODE OUT VARCHAR2,
AC_SQLERRM OUT VARCHAR2) IS
BEGIN
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'truncate table crstools.drt_bom_work_kiosk';
/* Note: The APPEND hint forces a Direct Path INSERT (see Link below code sample) and is combined with the NOLOGGING Hint */
/* To dramtically increase performance. The Direct Path INSERT inserts records above the High-Water Mark on the table. */
INSERT /*+ APPEND NOLOGGING */ INTO CRSTOOLS.DRT_BOM_WORK_KIOSK

Need a column based off a PL/SQL cursor, how to do this?

Hi,
I am trying to create a fairly basic report but in the initial data model query, I have one column that is built based off of a PL/SQL cursor. How do I add this into my report? I have tried to create a function under Program Units and reference the function in my select statement for the data model however it keeps saying it is an invalid identifier, and I assume its looking in our database and not the function I created inside the report.
This is what it looks like:
SELECT a.id,
b.name,
F_GET_GENERIC_NAME(b.code) "Generic Name",
c.strength...and the function i want it to use in my report:
FUNCTION F_GET_GENERIC_NAME (in_code varchar2) RETURN VARCHAR2 IS
BEGIN
DECLARE
generic_name table.column%TYPE;
CURSOR cs_get_generic_name IS
SELECT /*+ USE_HASH (AR) */ desc
FROM a_ref AR, ai_ic AC
WHERE AC.code = in_code
AND AC.code = AR.code
ORDER BY sort_nbr;
BEGIN
generic_name := '';
FOR v_get_generic_name IN cs_get_generic_name
LOOP
generic_name := generic_name || RTRIM(v_get_generic_name.desc)
|| '/' || ' ';
END LOOP;
generic_name := SUBSTR(generic_name, 1,(NVL(LENGTH(generic_name), 0) - 2));
RETURN generic_name;
END;
END;
Any suggestions? Should I just create the function in the database?I am trying to do it through a formula column but am encountering the following problem.
I've created a formula column in my data model where I want the column to be (inside the group).
Inside the PL/SQL for the column I reference the function that I had previously created with the following:
function CF_Generic_nameFormula return Char is
begin
F_GET_GENERIC_NAME(:code);
end;However it won't let me compile, giving the error that "F_GET_GENERIC_NAME is not a procedure or is undefined." Is there something else that I am missing?
EDIT: Nevermind, i missed something simple like putting a return in front of the function call.

Error in Trigger ( PL/SQL: ORA-01744: inappropriate INTO)
Hi ,
I've written the trigger in the following format.. As the original trigger is around 700 lines, so just format is written here.. please co-operate..

FROM ---
WHERE --- )
WHERE D_AT IS NOT NULL;
ELSEIF :NEW.COL2 ='H' THEN
SELECT * FROM ( SELECT --
PAK2.FUN1('AD',TAB9.ID) AS D_AT
BULK COLLECT INTO rowToins

WHERE D_AT IS NOT NULL;
i:=rowToins.FIRST;
WHILE i IS NOT NULL LOOP
--insert row 1
PAK1.fun2(rowToins(i).<col>,
i:=rowToins.NEXT(i);
END LOOP;
END IF;
END;
/The above code is giving the error..
PL/SQL: ORA-01744: inappropriate INTOSo how can i correct the code...
thanksThe line no..are

Need help on Dynamic SQL Cursor in Forms
Hi All,
I am trying to execute Dynamic SQL Cursor in forms using EXEC_SQL built in.
I have a cursor for example:
'select * from supplier where supplier = '||p_supplier||' and processing_order = '||p_order
My code is
cur_num := Exec_SQL.Open_cursor;
sql_order := 'select * from supplier where supplier = '||p_supplier||' and processing_order = '||p_order;
EXEC_SQL.PARSE(cursor_number, sql_order);
EXEC_SQL.DEFINE_COLUMN(cur_num ,1,ln_Supp_Id);
EXEC_SQL.DEFINE_COLUMN(cur_num ,2,ls_Suppl_Name,30);
EXEC_SQL.DEFINE_COLUMN(cur_num ,24,ls_exchange,20);
sql_count := EXEC_SQL.EXECUTE(cur_num );
While EXEC_SQL.FETCH_ROWS(cur_num ) > 0 Loop
EXEC_SQL.COLUMN_VALUE(cur_num ,1,ln_Supp_Id);
EXEC_SQL.COLUMN_VALUE(cur_num ,2,ls_Suppl_Name);
EXEC_SQL.COLUMN_VALUE(cur_num ,24,ls_exchange);
End Loop;
EXEC_SQL.CLOSE_CURSOR(cur_num );
In this case I have to write 24 Define Columns and 24 Column value. Is there any way to assign them to %rowtype at one time as I need all coulmn of the table.
I had similar case on multiple tables.
Please help me
Thanks,
MaddyI need this dynamic sql because p_supplier and p_order values changes at run time
I do not understand. Is this a simplified sample or the real thing? You do know that you can pass variables to cursors:
cursor test is
select * from supplier where supplier = p_supplier and processing_order = p_order;
or does e.g. p_supplier hold other parts of the query?

Cursor open error SQLSTT - 72000, SQL code - 969
We have purchased a product called Access Manager for DB2 and installed it on our AS400. This gives us the connectivitiy to Oracle server with which we do the Warehouse management software interface using our legacy system on AS400.
I have written several programs in SQLRPGLE and not quite sure as to how I can handle errors coming out of Oracle server.
As per my knowledge in my programs, I do
declare cursor
open cursor
fetch
dow look for sqlstate
fetch next row
enddo
close cursor
I am also new to this much of SQL.
Now, my programs are running in production and works just fine if we don;t have any issues with oracle server (database server down etc.).
My question is if the database server goes down for any reason, my SQLRPGLE progam starts giving me cursor not open errors, the actual error is as follows:
Connection to relational database HJAWCD1 already exists.
ARDUPAR: ARDUPAR: rc=-1(OCI_ERROR) from OCIStmtExecute when asking for
Describe-Info
ARDUPAR(1): ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLE
ARDAROC: rc = -1 from parse
SQLSTATE class unknown - SQLSTATE 72000, SQLCODE -969.
Cursor SEHOST not open.
Cursor SEHOST not open.
Cursor SEHOST not open.
So although, the connection exist between the AS400 and Oracle server as suggested from first statement, but then the cursor is giving me problems of not opening.
what I would like to know is how do I check in my SQL statement the error and somehow reconnect and open the cursor again.
Please help in this regard, since I am not finding any help from iseries world becuase no one seems to have knowledge about this product that we have installed and I don;t have too mcuh of documentation on the product nor do I have any sample handling messages program using RPGLE between oracle and AS400 using the product.
Regards
Farhan QadriIt's been over a decade since I worked on an AS/400 (iSeries), but I've seen an ORA-03114 is thrown from the OCI when you've attempted an illegal statement. That error typically means you are no longer connected to the database. I'd guess that your new application has a defective RPG error management routine.
Good luck, Michael -
SQL*Loader-925: Error while parsing a cursor (via ocisq)
Receiving the following error message when trying to use SQLLoader (on NT) >>>
SQL*Loader-925: Error while parsing a cursor
(via ocisq)
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
Trying to use the application for the first time, logon using userid for which sqlplus operates, and the table does exist under the user schema, as owner.
ctl and dat file are correct. Log file gives me no further detail of the errors.
Are there any configuration settings or something required for this app?
ThanksThanks Warren. I was concentrating more on the first line of the error.
You are right. The issue was of insufficient privileges. The table did not have all the necessary grants provided. -
Dear Oracle Experts,
I try to use the stored procedure below but get this error :
"Error(4,1): PLS-00428: an INTO clause is expected in this SELECT statement"
I don't have any clue what could be wrong with my syntax. INTO wouldn't make any sense at this task.
Does someone of you know what's wrong with my Procedure ?
Hope someone can help,
best regards,
Daniel Wetzler
