Place sequence markers during multicam edit?

Hello all,
I'm looking to place sequence markers on the fly as I'm performing a multicam edit using a keyboard shortcut, but I can't figure out how to do so.  I'm editing a college lecture, so when the speaker says "next slide" while I'm switching cameras in multicam mode, I can place a sequence marker at the point where the PowerPoint slide should start and end.  It would  make it much easier later when I have to go back and drop in the  slides.
Thanks.
Mike Tomei

Thanks for the link, Todd.  I just submitted a feature request.
shooternz:  yes, I'm able to place the markers in the main timeline window containing the multicam enabled edit, but only after switching from the multicam window to the timeline window.  My goal is to place the markers on the sequence while I'm in the multicam window switching between my camera shots.  Trying to keep a good flow going, rather than have to stop switching cameras, click on the timeline window, place a marker, then get the multicam camera switching started again.  It would be great to just make a real time pass switching cameras and placing markers, then just have to go back and drop in slides at my marked points.

    Hi,
I'm using 10.0.7. It's like snapping won't turn off. Instead ,if i use the keyboard to nudge the clips, there's no problem. I am using that at the moment.
    1. when i try to drag
    2. when i nudge:
    3. snapping is off.

  • How to edit source sequence from 'multicam mode' sequence (not bearing multicam icon)?

I'm 'multicam editing' what i believe I setup as a regular sequence, then enabled (i believe by nesting) as opposed to a textbook multicam sequence setup with multicam icon where you setup a 'source' then a 'target' prior to starting.  my 'multicam' sequence that works like a charm does not bear the multicam icon.  Is there a difference between the two or are they essentially the same?
I was able to switch cameras on the fly like a charm so i 'multicam' edited an entire show when I realized I had 1 minor audio-to-picture beat-mismatch to correct in the source.
I read that to fix this, press Ctrl+Shift+F where you want to open the source sequence in the Timeline panel (and this did open expanded tracks as expected near that designated point in the timeline) so i made the quick edit and saved changes.  But now playing back my multicam sequence (that does not have a multicam icon), I'm not sure what i must do to see those changes so i can continue/finish my show edit?  it isn't automatically doing this as i would expect.
i'm forced to wonder what's going on, what 'source' I actually edited, and how or if it is connected to my multicam sequence if at all.  my icons seem reversed to me i.e. the sequence with expanded independent a/v tracks bears the 'multicam' icon whereas the sequence I actually did the multicam switching on the fly does not bear the 'multicam icon' or the audio-picture realignment edit I made in the expanded tracks.
if these two are related, why do edits in the expanded sequence not reflect in the collapsed.  is there any other way to reveal/expand the multicam sequence?  so confused.

  • Multicam edit from nested sequence -- no audio?

Can someone please help me explain why I can change the video tracks as if they are multicam in my nested sequence, but I can't change the audio?
I created a sequence called "sync" which basically is all of my cameras, each on their own individual tracks, sync'd with each other, as they turned on and off throughout the shoot.
I cut this 'sync' sequence into my main timeline 'master', and then enabled multicam. I can now beautifully cut between cameras using the 'multicam' window and clicking on the preview of the shot I want as it plays. I've made my visual edit, but now I want to go back and choose my audio tracks, which it seems I can't do...
Furthermore, it seems that my nested sequence, which has video cut into V1 and audio cut into Stereo track A1, is only playing stereo track A2 from 'sync' when it's played on 'master'. It seems to be somewhat dependent on the tracks I have enabled on 'sync', but not entirely:
    1) If all audio tracks are enabled on 'sync', only A2 will play from A1 on 'master'
    2) If all audio tracks except for A2 are enabled on 'sync', no audio will play on 'master'
    3) If only A2 is enabled on 'sync', only A2 will play from 'master'.
Is there any documentation about this behavior? Is it a bug? Is there any way to select a different audio track from 'sync' from the multicam edit window?
    Thanks in advance!

    OK, maybe I should clarify...
Only A2 is coming through, NOT A1 -- so that's inconsistent with what you're saying. I have not checked Audio Follows Video, because that's not the bahvior I want. I'd like to be able to choose from any of the video tracks. Is that not possible in Premiere Pro?
Also, do you think it makes a difference that I'm 'multicam editing' from a regular sequence (with multicam enabled) as opposed to an actual multicam sequence?
    thanks for the help.

  • Issues creating multicam edit from pre-synced DSLR sequence

    Hi All,
I'm new to Premiere Pro CC, having just moved from FCPX. I've been doing a fair bit of research on multicam editing in PP the last few days but have yet to be able to get it going on my project.
As you can see from the screen grab, I have a sequence of DSLR clips that I have synced onto my timeline. The issue is that no matter what method I use I can't seem to create a multicam edit that works. I always end up with only one camera in the multicam window and the audio isn't remotely synced up with it.
    What am I doing wrong?

The sequence you have open. Take that sequence in your project bin, right click, pop-up menu, choose 'create a new sequence'. Open your new 'flat' one video track sequence in your timeline, click project monitor panel 'wrench', pop-up menu, choose ' Multi-camera'

  • Multicam Edit Really Slow

I am editing DV PAL and have just noticed that there is bug which is delaying my keyboard commands to switch to different cameras in the multicamera window.
Firstly after lining up my two cameras, I exported the audio alone to a wav format so I could mix it from both cameras right. Then imported it back into my project and overlayed the audio in track one of the layered sequence. I muted the audio from both cameras in track 2 and 3. Created another sequence and dragged my layered sequence for multicam edit. Apparently when I start playing with the yellow borders around camera 1, it plays fine but when I change to camera 2 it is just instant and the border now changes to red. If I press 1 for camera 1 it responds after 2 - 3 seconds and carries on like that. At times it appears as if its no longer playing in real time. All the colour correction in the layered sequence have been disabled.  I have stopped the editing because I would like to sync some of the sections with music beats in the scene to make it more interesting.
Am I missing something, here or its my sytem or the footage that is just too slow for the editing process? Other than that I might have to push on like that and review the edit once the multicam window is closed. This method will not produce the results I am after. I have done it before and it use to work only slowing down when its coming to the end of at least 50 minutes multicam sequence and this one is just 40 minutes.
All the video files are located on RAID 1.
My system configuration is as follows
    APP CS4
    HP XW6600
    Quad Xeon 5420 2.5Ghz
    Vista Business 64bit
    Nvidia Quadro FX4600 GPU
    8GB RAM
    RAID 1 esata
    250 GB C drive HDD
    750 GB D drive
    22" HD monitor.
I have attached a pdf which showed my system perfomance at the time of the multicam edit.

One big bottleneck for the system is the way PPro deals with the audio. For a test, try disabling all the audio.  you should see a big performance increase.  The trick now is to keep PPro from working too hard on the sound.
Try this - Instead of placing your mixed audio track on track 1 in the source timeline, place it in track 2 of the timeline you actually use for the multicamera editing.  Then delete anything in track 1 in this timeline.  You can link the video and track 2, but pay attention when you remove material that you are cutting audio 2 as well, to keep everything in sync.
It may still not be perfect, but it should help.  You can also disable any color-correction on the tracks until you are finished cutting, as this is a system drag in multicam.
Multicam is overall a bit of a mess in CS4.  The delay you see is no fun.  You will notice, however, that the actual cut will be at the right moment.

  • Maintaining Letterbox (1.85) Throughout Multicam Edit

    Hello all,
I have a situation that's probably not in the realm of the ordinary, but I'd appreciate any suggestions. Due to client request, I have several multi-cam shoots to edit that need to be delivered in 1.85. To avoid any framing problems, I'd like to edit with 1.85 letterboxing in place. Originally I just dropped a template in a new video layer over my sequence, but that doesn't stick when editing in multi-cam mode. I've now moved on to applying a 4 point matte to the original clips, which thanks to Premiere CC, does stick in multi-cam editing; the drawback with this is that I lose the letterboxing for any clips that need to be scaled.
Any ideas? The first method would be preferable in my mind, but from the look of things, Premiere doesn't display multiple layers in multi-cam mode once you start cutting.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your help Mark. The first solution wouldn't work because I'm trying to maintain 1.85 in the midst of multicam editing - and for whatever reason, in multi-cam view Premiere doesn't display a letterbox layer once you make your first cut.
The second solution looks more promising. However, is there a way to make that change within an existing sequence and have the contents update accordingly? I was able to change my current sequence's resolution, but I needed to adjust the clip's scale (just moving it away from 100 and then back again) for the change to update in the program monitor.
(A separate but somewhat related question: is it ever problematic to change sequence settings midway through editing? I know some people in the past have been unable to change resolution, but it seems as if I'm able to change resolution, editing mode, and other parameters freely...)

  • How to extend clips after multicam editing.

I recently learned how to use multicam editing and I think it is such a fantastic tool. One of the things that I struggled with, however, is the ability to extend/shorten one of the clips because the footage was too shaky during the transition to another clip.
For example: Clip A is playing and recording on the timeline. But Clip A becomes shaky so I switch to Clip B. After everything is done, and I play it back, I see that shaky footage towards the end of Clip A.
How do I extend Clip B so that it extends over Clip A to get rid of the shaky footage?

The "Roll" tool. Click between 2 clips and roll the edit left or right.

  • Multicamera Edit Lags in PPro CS4

    Hi,
I am experiencing cumulative delays when making multicamera edits using the multicamera window in CS4.  I am about halfway through a 2 hour video, and with 2 or 3 streams of HDV 23.976 (Canon) video everything plays fine in the Multicamera window when starting up PPro fresh.  As soon as I press a key to switch active streams, the video starts playing very jerky, and it takes 2-3 seconds for the red highlight box to switch to the selected stream.  If I continue on without stopping and continue to keyboard select the active multicam window, the delay becomes longer and longer before the red highlight switches to the active stream. And the playback remains jerky.  If I stop playback, and start again everything is smooth until I select a different stream in the multicamera window.
Playback of the completed multicam edited sequence from the timeline is fine - no issues at all.
I am running a Core i7 3.0GHz processor with 3GB RAM and multiple SATA 7200K hard drives.
Any thoughts on what may be causing this?  I don't remember having this type of multicam edit performance degradation with CS3 on a less powerful machine.

    Does any of this help?

  • FCP 5.0 Multicam editing and main sound

I have 3 angles shots. How do I leave a main sound from camera 1 in the time line when when I do multicam editing?
Do I first do only video cuts and bring the main sound in or it can be done differently?
    Thanks.

I didn't feel like going through the manual either on this one --- here's what I do, which is by no means the easiest automatic thing.
After I drag my multiclip to the timeline, I grab the track I want audio from and place it with the multiclip. A couple locks & unlocks, a couple of deletes, and I've got the multiclip video with the audio from the track I want audio from.
It's not the automatic thing, but I generally am working with 2+ hour long multiclips, and only have to go through this once per project.

  • Best Practices CS6 - Multicam Edit: How to use a key?

I'm trying to figure out what's the best way to use the Multi-cam editing function of CS6 PP, while applying a key to the primary video track.
The workflow I have is V1 contains the background that I want to key into V2. I applied UltraKey to V2, did the key (works great), and now I want to use the multicam editing to cut between the finished keyed V2 track, and video on V3. The way I've always used the Multicam editing in the past is to select the video clips from the clip browser (not the timeline) to create a multicam source sequence - but if I have to apply a key first, I can't do that. I thought of nesting V1 and V2 together after the key is applied, but then I can't make adjustments to the key after the final composite is made (or can I?)
Any thoughts about what works best in this scenario? appreciate the help.

I don't think my system could support live keying. I'd prefer to apply the key first but this is where I had a problem. Let's assume for a minute that there's no key. In a typical MCS workflow, I'd just select the clips from the browser, create the MCS, do the live cuts and be done with it. If I can still do that it's fine, but would that screw everything up in the MCS if I move all the video up one track because the background for the key has to be in front of the video that it's being applied to? I hope I'm making sense here.

  • Multicam editing problems with RT

I am having an issue in Final Cut Pro with editing with the multi-cam editor. We are us-ing a G5 Quad with 4.5 GB of Ram. We selected 4 clips from the Browser, control clicked and chose "make multiclip". Then dragged the Multiclip in to the viewer window, or double clicked it to get it there. Dropped the multiclip to the timeline. Played the Clip, and chose our views in real-time. The video on the Canvas cuts out when we made a new selection. There were cuts made, but they did not show up in the browser. Then we had to play the clip back to get the cuts to show up. I know this is not how it is supposed to work. With the Lesson files in the Final Cut Pro book, you are able to cut and see the edits in real time. I have also seen this done on a less powerful machine than what we are using. Also I have the RT set to Unlimited, and Dynamic. Any Suggestions?

What do you mean with "There were cuts made, but they did not show up in the browser"? The cuts are not supposed to show up in the browser. Did you mean the timeline (your sequence)?

    Any suggestions if not....?
I'm trying to run thru video edits and mark points of edits = for pictures, other media, pans...whatever...so what do you suggest is best?
Sequence markers obviously don't retain position when you edit/modify clips...
Thanks!! In a time crunch so sooner any feedback - the better

That would have been useful to know right away.  There has been a huge change to the markers in Pr CS6, and that has generated a lot of questions about the new markers.  I figured you were asking about CS6.  Apparently, so did Jim since he asked about Prelude, which is new to CS6.

EDIT: Short answer to your question is no, it can't be done in CSNot6.

  • Premiere Pro Sequence Markers are not showing up in Audition CS6 anymore

    Hello,
If you look in Audition Help "Working with video applications" you will find following sentence:
"Any sequence markers appear in Audition, and separate tracks can be retained for maximum editing flexibility."
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/audition/cs/using/WS58a04a822e3e5010548241038980c2c5-7e43.html
This is an very important feature which was working very nice in CS5.5. But now in CS6 not any marker in appearing in Audition.
Is it just a bug on my computer or in the software or does the feature not exist anymore?
I am working on Mac OSX 10.8.2
    Thank you!

I'm using the following programs on Mac OS X Version 10.9.5:
    Encore version 6.0.0.492
    Premiere CC 2014 version 7.2.2
    Media Encoder CC version 7.2.2.29

  • Multicam editing issue

I've been able to successfully create multicam edited squences previously but I've run into a problem I can't seem to figure out. I've followed the steps for creating a multicam form the manual and from Ken Stone's tutorial here http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/multicam_editingmartin.html, but still not luck.
I'm creating a multiclip based on in points in FCS2. The videos I'm using are H.264, 640x480, 29.97fps, the data & audio rates are different.
What's happening is after adding/creating the multiclip sequence the clip angles are not playing in the viewer and only one angle plays in the canvas. When I select the second angle I get a red render line above the entire clip. The RT settings are limited to just "Use Playback Settings" and "Full Quality".
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks
    Jerry

The problem is very likely coming from the fact that FCP doesn't support h.264. It's a delivery format, not an editing format.
You'd be much better off transcoding these files to a supported editing format such as DV then creating the multiclips.
