Please add your experience to this thread: LR V1 vs LR V2- on YOUR system

Just out of curiosity sake...would people mind putting a few thoughts here as to their upgrade experience. PLEASE NO posts about speed issues, or arguing over system specs etc etc...there are already plenty of those threads here.
Instead what I am asking is for people to simply answer the following questions, no more no less. So if you like to participate please keep the posts simple. I am hoping this will provide some idea to those of us who have yet to upgrade as to what we can expect. Thanks for helping..
1) What OS, ie Windows or Mac (XP or Vista, What Mac OS version)
2) Processor type (cores and speed)
3) Ram (amount and speed if you know it)
4) Main working Hard drive (internal, external-& connection here- And speed ie 7200, 10,000, striped raid...etc)
5) Average # of images in library
6) In you subjective opinion would you say that LR V1.x ran:
a) Adequate
b) Good
c) Screaming fast
d) Slooow
7) Since upgrading to V2 on your CURRENT system how would you rate LR V2 vs your experience in V1? Please use the above a-d answers
8 ) After your experience with question #7, did you upgrade your system? If so what did you do and how did it affect your perception of speed in LR V2? Again using the above a-d answers
Thanks again. I know this is not scientific, nor does it address all the possible variables. But it will give us an idea as to how LR V2 MAY run on our systems when compared to V1

2. 2G Amd Athlon 64
3. 2456 Mb memory
4. Internal 7200
5. images +- 1700mb (new cataloque for Aug.)
6. V1.4 -good, but would lock up on export once a week
7.a)initially good -first two days after install
b)uninstalled v1.4 and v2 went from sloooow to very bad.
c.Today Aug-Registry clear out of anything 'Lightroom',Moved any folder connected to Lightroom off the hard drive except current cataloque, UNINSTALLED V2. shut down computer-rebooted.
d. Reinstalled V2, redid preferences, opened current cataloque, redid a develop preset EVERYTHING is working WELL! Local adjustments now usable.
8.No changes to computer. Should have cleared out old Lightroom stuff before installing V2

When the evening begins...your experience of this ...

Dear fellow BT users
I have been a BT customer for all of my adult life...25 years...and only today did I find out that the evening since April 2010 begins at 7pm as opposed to 6pm which it had always been.
I thought this ignorance was due to some oversight on my part as good, old, reliable BT would not have done this quietly so as to trick customers out of their hard earned cash. Especially at a time when we are already being squeezed from every direction.
But I go on google and guess what? Thousands of BT customers are happily making calls after 6pm thinking they are not going to be charged on their evening and weekend call plan, well after April 2010 . They are also as surprised as I was when they see that they are being charged after 6pm.
It would have been easy for BT to see that customer habits had not changed significantly and to deduce from that that the message had not been given quite clearly enough.
BT will say that it was advertised and customers were made aware, but the evidence seems to point towards the fact that this advertising was in many cases ineffective. There was no humorous ad campaign with Kris Marshall to make sure that the message emphatically got over to customers that:
YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR CALLS BEFORE 7PM NOW...NOT 6PM LIKE IT HAS BEEN FOR YEARS...7PM...DID YOU ALL GET THAT? 7PM....
It would be interesting to know how many extra millions of pounds BT has made out of an already over stretched, LOYAL, British public since making this subtle change. I would be interested in anyone who has been stung by this over the past two years. You can also post if you think I should stop moanng as I should have known. I will agree with you that I should have known. I really should. So should all the other people who didn't know. I hope everyone knows now, but just in case they don't:
BT, YOU SHOULD REITERATE THIS TO YOUR CUSTOMERS, JUST IN CASE...YOU WOULD NOT WANT PEOPLE TO END UP PAYING FOR SOMETHING WHEN THEY COULD AVOID IT, WOULD YOU?
I, myself, am moving to another company...maybe out of the frying pan and into the fire, but hey, BT are not getting any of my hard earned cash.

A TV ad campaign, isn't that when everyone gets up off the sofa and goes and makes a cuppa tea, then comes back just as the programs restart. (so miss the ads)

I did that. I had one spell this morning when MySpace worked fine. Then it all went back to the spinning wheel.
I uninstalled again, reinstalled, did the permissions, restarted. Same problem.
This may be spurious, but during the successful session I noticed that a Quicktime movie file which was on my desktop had a thumbnail image instead of the old style non-picture icon. Now that file has the old style icon. Related, do you think?

K8n neo2-f nf3 ultra board - onboard nic problem? Please post your experiences

I just ordered the k8n neo2-f nf3 ultra board, with a venice 3500+ chip, from newegg. I saw various posts on the mobo, however, from people who said the onboard nic doesn't work right out of the box, that they had to go in and manually enter the mac address in Windows that they retrieved from a sticker on the parallel port.
I can deal with a problem like that easily, but I find it hard to believe MSI would ship such a defective board design as that. Is this really the commonplace experience with this board? Please post your experience with this board if you've used it or had experience with it

Well, if you're wondering about the 'dhcp server', 'dns servers', 'default gateway', etc., that is all in the 'Network Connections' folder which can be reached from the Control Panel. To get to those settings, you right-click on the 'local area connection' that corresponds to the onboard lan, and click 'properties'. Then, select 'network protocol(tcp/ip)' in the list of networking components and click the 'properties' button. That will bring up the set of tabs where you can set those properties (although there is no 'dhcp server' address setting, just the option to either specify an address or use dhcp to automatically assign an address).
I get the impression, though, that you're saying if you slap in a pci network card, it connects right away, so I doubt any of those settings are needed (unless you left out the part about going into the tcp/ip settings for the pci nic and specifying an address, etc., which I doubt you did). Have you considered contacting msi tech support on the problem? If it's a new board, I'm sure you're entitled to free tech support. It seems like, with all of the chatter on these boards over this issue, they should be well aware of it and be familiar with the ways to 'fix' it.

Based on the error message, it seems that the Visio Graphics Service is not started or the Enterprise feature is not enabled.
I recommend to check the things below:
Go to Central Administration > System Settings > Manage service on server > check if the Visio Graphics Service is started > then click Application Management > Manage service applications > check if the Visio Graphics Service application
is created.
Go to the root site settings page of the site where you got this error, click Site collection features to check if the SharePoint Server Enterprise Site Collection Features is enabled.

I am trying to access a fabric website I have used before and when I try to type in the domain name, a message appears saying "This domain is not configured for this service. Please add it to your account". How do I fix this?

That message sounds like an address might have changed on the server...
Are you trying to access the site directly using a bookmarks, or by typing into the address bar, or by following a link in a search engine? Sometimes links change making bookmarks and search engine entries obsolete, or Firefox's autofill feature suggests an address that no longer works, so if one approach doesn't work, you might try one of the others.

Hi, I am a 16 year old teen that is about to wait for the right moment to have my dream of starting a youtube channel. Ive done a lot of research comparing how any type of laptop will compare when I record and play my games, because i mostly want to get into gaming youtube channel. Although i might want to do just gaming ive also wanted to do videos of unboxing and music covers. My friend that knows a lot about computers told me that i should get a mac if i want to do mainly editing, or if i want to just game and record i should buy a pc laptop. He recommended that i should buy a laptop from IBUYPOWER that has better specs than that of the mac book pro retina 15" and is cheaper. That moves onto my next question asking why are macs so overpriced? I did all my research on that too, and it most likely seems it is almost a brand name expense like louis vuotton. Next question is, how is the cheapest way I can get the 15" retina mac book pro for the cheapest price possible, should i wait until black friday for sales to lower, or should i wait until the next year to get the next 2015 model. Is the newer progressing years of MacBook pros that much better that i should wait until the next year to get it. Next question, say i wanted to play a game that is only on windows platform, ex. Skyrim. Should i play a cracked version that has been reformatted to the mac, or should i just download windows on my mac so that i can play it with more ease of use that way, instead of having to use everything in the mac side when it was originally formatted for Windows. Anyway thank you for your time, and even if you dont know the answer to these questions, PLEASE ANSWER ANYWAY, THANK YOU!

Mac is not overpriced...
You pay for seamless Software/Hardware integration. Superior build and workmanship. And of course the OS X experience.
As far as laptops go I believe apple has the best offerings on the market by a longshot.
I am however not a big fan of buying a Mac and using it with windows... It kind of defeats the point, unless you are a developer, or need it occasionally for certain activities only Windows can perfrom.
You stated you want to however start a youtube gaming channel, I think its better to buy a desktop for this type of activity. Obviously you will game for hours on end if you want to create some sort of feedback/opinion or reviews for different games.
Also you will have to run windows to review the latest and best platforms/games. Many current games are not available on OSX platform. So your review channel would not be very good if you can only review OSX selected games.
That said there could also be a niche on youtube for reviewing exclusively OSX games. I mean you could review different games from the apple app store etc.
It really depends on what you want to do...
There are many good windows based machines too to do this sort of thing... In your case it may be the better option.
There are certainly Windows based laptops that do a much better job in the gaming compartment than a Macbook pro. In fact to play top end games you will need a top of the line 15 inch MBP with Discreet Graphics (Anything else only has Integrated graphics, games still playable, but there are limitations). You can get a much more affordable/powerfull laptop that is Windows based... Or more practically a more affordable and powerful Desktop...
I must however add.
Coming from Windows environment... My first Macbook Pro and OSX experience put all previous windows machines to shame...

Hi All,
I had this problem today myself, and was frustrated repeatedly by the '4002' error.
I have literally just fixed the issue by doing the following steps:
1: Go to the 'Store' tab and select 'Turn Off iTunes Match'
2: Return to the 'Store' tab and select 'Update Genius'
3: Wait for this to complete succesfully, the return to the 'Store' tab once more and select 'Turn On iTunes Match'.
4: iTunes Match will now go through the motions and should succeed!

Please share your experiences moving from Quark to InDesign

My company's design group is pushing to move from Quark to Indesign, starting with one of my projects, which is our largest (400 pages), highest profile document (it is currently in Quark, and the plan is to pour the text and graphics into InDesign). Our schedule is very lean--leaving little room for surprises. None of the compositors in the design group have used InDesign. They are expected to recieve some formal training--but only about 1 week's worth total over a period of several weeks. I am all for making the transition to InDesign, but feel that the wiser path to take is to start on smaller and less high-profile documents that have more time in the schedule for the learning curve. However the design manager is adament that the transition will be problem-free. My experience is that any transition like this has bumps, and most are unexpected, and create havoc and panic. This document has only gone to print on time once (in 10+ years)--with me managing the project and with much sweat and tears. My hope that this year we could go to print on time AND do it with less wear and tear on all who work on it. I just don't think this will happen making this tranisiton now. Can anyone share their experiences when they made the transition?

Everyone else has had really good advice about starting with a 400 page doc, particularly if it's complex. If it's just text with a couple illustrations every 4 or 5 pages, it might be do-able, but if it's a complex document with lots of stuff on every page, it could be tricky.

Some practical tips for the beginning XPress converter that I learned the hard way...
- Cmd-shift-click pulls stuff off the master page.
- The lack of master anchors may limit your ability to accomplish certain master page layouts (with prelinked text boxes) that are easy to do in XPress. Everyone here will tell you to simply use the margins to control your text flow, which may or may not work well for your particular case.
- Always scroll around a document by holding down option+spacebar. This insures that you will get the scroll hand tool every time instead of accidentally inserting a zillion spaces into your text.
-Cmd-shift-A deselects everything in a text box so that you can select another tool. There is no next/prev tool shortcut, but rather keys for each tool. (T is text, A is the white arrow, V is the black arrow)
- You "thread frames" rather than "link text boxes" despite how I wrote this. :)
- Don't set text wrap to effect only the stuff underneath in the prefs because...
- All text should go in a separate layer on top of the graphics layer because...
- InDesign dynamically resolves transparency effects at print time, which means if part of your text is layered under a transparent element it may get rasterized.
- If you need to get text to show even when it's on top of an object with a text wrap, select the text box and check the "Ignore text wrap" option.
- Overprint Preview is your friend. It'll help show you all those things that you didn't notice were going to print strangely before you commit them to print. (Overprinting white type, etc)
- When you're just starting out, so is the Flattener Preview because you will start to get a feel for what is going to be bitmapped and what won't.
- XPress documents imported into InDesign should always be exported as Adobe InDesign Interchange and reimported one more time. .inx is the equivalent of the "thumb-nail drag" trick in XPress to clean up a document that is acting funny.
- XPress documents with placed EPS files may come in with the "Non-printing object" attribute checked on some of the EPS graphics. There's a script floating around that Dave Saunders wrote to fix this. Also, turning Overprint Preview will help you spot this (look for the disappearing objects).
- If you are placing EPS objects, be sure to set your import options to "Render preview from postscript" or your previews won't look right and/or may be deceiving.
- Don't every base your paragraph styles off of "Basic Paragraph Style", because if it ever changes in another document your type will suddenly change when you paste it from one document to another.
- Don't base anything off of "Basic Object Style" for the same reasons.
- Your defaults change whenever your change the options in a palette/panel without anything selected. Curious why every new object you draw comes in with a drop shadow or a 3pt rule, for example? You accidentally set those options with nothing selected.
- InDesign's paragraph composer may drive you (or your proof-readers) wonky because it will change the flow of text paragraph-wide if you redo a line of text. You can either adjust it for decent text flow and leave it alone OR turn it off by basing all your stylesheets on single-line composer. People in here will largely recommend option one, but if it doesn't work for your stuff, don't be afraid to disable it.
- Make sure to upgrade to the latest CS3 update, because CS3 v5.00 had some fairly crashy behavior.
- If CS3 feels really sluggish, try turning off page previews in the Pages palette.
- CS3 and OS X 10.5 are not fully compatible yet.
Best of luck! It's not really that big a change, but everything is slightly different so expect a bit of time to really get your feet under you.
