Please consider providing files.tar.gz for your unofficial user repo

Some Unofficial User Repositories don't provide <repo_name>.files.tar.gz for pkgfile to use.
It's not a huge deal if foobar binary is provided by foobar package - I can simply search for 'foobar' packagename with pacman - but sometimes I would have to resort to posting on the forums e.g. when the package in question is called foo-scripts.
I know it means more work for repo maintainers and few people may benefit from it, but I would appreciate it, even if I'm not using this feature very often.
Thanks to all users who maintain their unofficial repositories. It's very handy to be able to just grab a binary with pacman :-)

We may have found the reason not everyone is providing $repo.files db - it's not obvious how to create it ;P

The extra step takes time and space (bigger db).

Best practice for managing unofficial user repo with git?

I am currently playing around with setting up an unofficial repo. So far so good, except I am trying to make sure I do things "properly".
I am currently deploying my website according to this tip I've seen recommended. I.e. on the server, set up a bare repo in say ~/src/www.git with a post-receive hook that states something like
GIT_WORK_TREE=$HOME/www_public git checkout -f
where ~/www_public is the apache directory root for the website.
Doing it this way, I can push and pull changes between my desktop, the server and my laptop and the .git files don't end up visible to the public.
Now I want to add my repo to this system, but repo-add creates ".tar.gz" files. According to github help, these are better off ignored by git.
One solution that occurs to me is to add a pre-commit that decompresses the db into plain text and a post-receive that recompresses to a form that pacman will understand. However, I wonder if there is a simpler solution that I'm missing? I notice that Debian seems to have a tool that will do what I want, for Debian users. Does something equivalent exist for Archlinux, or do any Archers who run unofficial repos have any tips for me based on their experience/mistakes/successes of the past?

What step should i take next.

Where did you get the phone?
That phone was replaced by Apple or an AASP and was not returned to Apple as it should have been, or it was stolen from Apple or somewhere in the supply chain.
You can not get support from Apple for that phone.
Return it to wherever you got it and get your money back.

Burning Keynote .PPT exported file to CD for Windows PPT user.

I created a Keynote presentation using KN 2.0.2 and exported it as a .ppt file. Worked great. I want to burn the .ppt file to a CD to give to a Windows PPT user to view. I burned the KN .ppt file to a CDRW disk using Finder. However, the Windows user couldn't view the KN .ppt exported file, error message read, "PPT does not have a recognizable file system". Should I have used a CD-R disk instead of a CDRW disk? Can you burn a KN .ppt exported file straigth to a CD using just Finder or do I need to use Toast, etc.?

maybe it's a problem with the name of the .mov. Check if it contains spaces. Spaces in file names often cause problems.
Also, try creating an ISO9660 CD. Choose the advanced tab in Toast 6 where you'll find the option. Toast should automatically enable Joliet extension which is used on Windows for long file names.
Then, instead of burning choose "File/Save As Disc Image…" and mount the disc image (Utilities/Mount Disc Image…). You can then check the content. The content should be shown as it will be seen on Windows.
If the Windows folks happen to have a CD burning program available, you could also send the ISO9660 disc image (to avoid spending too much CD-Rs for your tries (Or use a CD-RW instead).

Pass file to Reader for printing withour user interaction

We already pass PDF files to Reader for viewing. We now need to have a "Print" button on our screens and the PDF can be directly printed without viewing (at least without interaction to print or even close the viewer when done).
This should be tantamount to "copy my.pdf lpt1:" in DOS.
How can we do this?

Check out the Acrobat SDK, the Interapplication Communication
documents, but be aware that almost everything there needs Acrobat.
Certain DDE messages are supported in Reader.

Does anybody else have a problem with this? Why does it still take 3-5 business days to process a transfer? Paypal's system is all computerized, the banks' systems are all computerized, and you know that these transactions never require human input in order to proceed. So, why the wait? Do the computers go to sleep at night? Do they spend time with their family and friends over the weekend? NO!Meanwhile, I am left broke and unable to buy food and gas while the money I earned is stuck in the ether for absolutely no reason. I realize that the wait time is more the bank's fault than Paypal, but the bank doesn't have a community forum for me to rant in.If anybody has a legitimate explanation as to the why this wait time still exists in this era of digitally controlled everything, please share.The money is instantaneously removed from my Paypal account, so it should instantaneously appear in my bank account... that is, unless, some entity is using my money during those several days to earn interest for itself. That is common practice for financial institutions... i.e. your mortgage payment is due at the end of the month, but like most people, you send the payment when you receive the bill. If the payment is received on the 20th, that bank will add your money to an interest earning account along with everybody else's early payments until the actual due date, during which time the bank earns itself a hefty profit. I think you got the two methods mixed up: A wire transfer requires account verification by a real person on each end, which causes the transaction to take 3-5 business days to complete. Banks charge a fee for wire transfers, so they make money. Electronic transfers (which you said Paypal uses) are handled completely by computers, and are usually completed within seconds. However, electronic transfers do not incur a fee and the bank makes no money on them. It is absolutely necessary for electronic withdrawals to be processed instantly or else E-commerce would not work. Too many of these transactions occur daily for any bank to have enough employees to approve all the transactions. Not to mention that the bank fee for making such transactions would seriously deter most people from buying anything online.If Paypal does in fact make bank transfers using the electronic method, the money should never disappear for several days. Methinks the bank receives that money within seconds, but uses it to make themselves money for a few days since they otherwise won't make anything off the transaction.My wife used to be a bank teller, and she says that banks find ways to make money off every transaction. They did not allow payment by cash through the mail. What am I gonna do, drive my payment to Texas every month!? Not possible.Thats enough. I'm done ranting. Its just making me more **bleep** off.

Is "Messages" app working properly for your Nework users?

I'm seeing a very odd issue where the new 10.8 "Messages" app not acting properly for users with a networked home directory. If logging in on the server, the users' Message app works just fine. When logging on from a client mounting their home directory over the network, the Messages app can send messages fine, but does not receive messages. What is odd is that the app does get the signal that the person is responding to an outgoing message showing their avatar and "...", so something is being recieved, but no message ever shows up.
Anyone else seeing this on client systems?

I've got messages server running on Mountain Lion Server (fresh install) and both 10.7.4 and 10.8.0 clients are able to message each other, the 10.7.4 clients are network home users but I was forced to change the 10.8 user to a mobile home account because everytime they opened Mail all there contacts would get deleted.
Assuming your client are on 10.8 you have probably found another network home bug, consider switching to mobile homes until it is fixed
