  • Please read this before you load SECURITY UPDATE 2010-006

I've just spent 72 hours with frozen cursors and frozen screens - so far all directly related to security update 2010-006. After successfully using SuperDuper! to erase my Internal HD and load a 2+ week old system without security update 2010-006 I seem to be fine again.
OK I have so much share-free ware on my MBP-13" (May 2010) running 10.6.4 that maybe I'm the only one on the planet to see this - but there is a 214 PAGE post for MBP-15 and MPB-17's freezing -- prior to Security Update 2010-006 ------ related or not, don't know.
I believe I will actually get a duplicate MacBook Pro (or at least a MINI with the same chip/speed) so that I can keep one clean and experiment (i.e. download stuff) on the other. Then if a problem, my life doesn't stop. I realize that from banking to photos to news to work to reports to my balance sheet to SKYPE to eMail to....... wow, and in 1983 I just had my HP calculators!! These Macs just have to work!
Best of success and comments welcome here.

Thanks for the feedback! I think my system is now "OK" (hours of checks, with Apple as well etc. etc.) but likely there was a conflict - and since I don't know what - and since I can't remove everything right now - if this keeps working I just won't install the security update 2010-006.
BUT will this sneak up on me in security update 2010-007 or ??? I kinda have to get to the bottom of this - am actually thinking of buying a second, almost identical Mac (or at least a somewhat cheaper MINI 2.4 gHz) to have some backup beyond my external drives (which saved me!)
Thanks again and any/all comments truly appreciated.

  • Read This BEFORE you update to iWeb '08

iWeb '08 introduces a lot of features that we've all been waiting for but, before you jump right in there, you should realize a lot of people are losing their original websites.
When you first launch iWeb '08 and upload an existing website it converts your domain.sites file to domain.sites2 file. Due to bugs in this software release, these converted files seem to be corrupted in various ways.
Once your domain.sites file has been converted there is no way back.
    You MUST back them up.
If you want to continue working on your old sites you will have to retain your copy of iWeb '06. When you update to iWeb '08 your original application is replaced so, if you have not run the update, move your old iWeb application out of the "Applications" folder.
If you have already uploaded the new version and still have your iLife '06 disk then you are OK as long as you have made a "safe" backup of your original domain.sites file(s).

iWeb '08 Calamity: Lost site content, crashes, significantly increased resource usage, more
Backup your Domain files Make a copy of this file -- located in ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain -- before attempting to update to or use iWeb '08. The program is causing serious issues for a number of readers (as discussed below), and may delete or make inoperable parts of your stored Web site(s). Saving this file can mean the difference between losing or maintaining your current site data.
Missing site elements including photo galleries The most dire issue users are experiencing after updating to iWeb '08 is the sudden disappearance of various site elements, particularly photo galleries. Many users have reported that entire swaths of their sites are completely missing after launching the update and attempting to work with their pre-existing site(s) file.
Crashes A surprisingly high number of users are reporting repeated crashes after updating to iWeb '08.
Ironically, it appears that many of the crashes can be resolved by removing the file ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain. In essence, it looks like iWeb '08 is choking on the sites file created by older versions of iWeb. So move this file to a separate location, and try launching iWeb '08 again.
Increased resource usage/slowness Users are reporting that the new version of iWeb uses significantly more memory and processor time than its predecessor.

First of all we need your stats so we can determine if or not their is an issue:
Please use this link http://192.168.1.254 to go to your hubs homepage:
(Heres the direct link! http://192.168.1.254/index.cgi?active_page=9116 )
    Then click on Settings:
    Then go to Advanced Settings:
    then go to Broadband:
    then go to Connection:
and then please copy and paste your adsl stats making sure you expand to show all details:
We need to determine whether you have a throughput or speed or IP profile issue, there is only one official speed tester that BT will accept for speed test and you need to go to http://www.speedtester.bt.com and then type click on the ADSL/FTTC option:
and then type in your phone number, wait for the results to be displayed:
and once the results have been displayed with your IP Profile please copy and paste the results to your post.
Also searching your exchange on http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search , this is not neccessary but can sometimes help.
Always make sure you try changing the filters this can be a common problem.  If you have a mastersocket with a split front then unscrew the bottom bit and behind there should be a hidden test socket, you usually should try to test your broadband in there to make sure your internal wiring ins't causing interference this can be one of the highest common factors of slow broadband.  Usually your broadband will be dependant on your line length from the exchange which will be based on your attenuation, so if your far from the exchange your not likely to get a great speed on ADSL.
Also dialling 17070 and pressing Option 2 to do a quiet line test will show if you have any noise on your line.  If there's any noise on your line, try changing your filter's first and then call (0800 800) 151 and report a line fault don't mention broadband and go from there.
    Happy posting!

  • Please Read This Before Wasting Your Life With BT

    Hi,
I eagerly awaited my 17Mb promised Internet access from BT.  On February 7th 2012 it was active, set up and was delighted, close to 17Mb access.  Unfortunately over a period of 5 days it went down in steps to just 2Mb speed. Called the people in India and was taken through a whole lot of ill informed 'tests' of my system to try and determine what was wrong.  I was even told to change the wireless channel even though I had advised I was connected via cable.  The trick is to get it escalate and as soon as possible.
Once escalated you will probably be contacted by someone who knows what they are talking about from Ireland.  I do actually know what I am talking about and so was able to convince the man at the other end of the phone that there was a problem at the exchange.  A few days later an engineer turned up, checked everything in my house before confirming there was a problem at the exchange.  Quick phone call to get the man at the exchange to put 'interleaving' onto the line and problem solved, stable at 17Mb.  Happy, well nearly.
Set up my BT Home Hub 3 with four Edimax Repeaters to give good wireless coverage all around the house, worked perfectly........For about two hours.  Believing it was my network set up I stripped it all apart reconfiguring everything.  I tried WDS Bridge, all the repeating options I had, a different ASDSL+ modem, a Netgear router connected to the Home Hub to better control DCHP.  All gave exactly the same results, perfect operation for around two hours then the whole nextwork collapsed.
Onto advanced networking set ups, different SSID, channel separation, blocking certain IP addresses nothing made any difference.  I then spent a few days searching the Internet, there is not a lot of published information but there was an underlying trend pointing to BT and DNS issues.  OK so I have to get a dynamic DNS account, why?  Because BT's is useless and is the cause of the continued failure of my network and probably the cause of the regular interruption of your service.
I set up an account with NoIP, set the BT Home Hub 3 to to Dynamic DNS, type in the few details required and it connects immediately.  Did I see any change, yes my network is now completely stable and I enjoy very fast Internet access.
Am I happy, no not really.  Thge network set up I have today is the same as I had on 7th February and it is perfectly stable.  No where on any of the forum do BT acknowledge that their network DNS is rubbish, completely rubbish.  If you are having a problem get up a free NoIP Dynamic DNS account, if you are not having problems then get a free NoIP Dynamic DNS account because it is only a matter of time before you are plagued by the curse of the BT DNS.

This has worked perfectly for me. I can't believe the difference.

  • CMSS can cause for weird results. Please read this if you have surround issues

I'm a musician who frequently uses the Audio creation mode because this is the environment most optimal for creating music. For some time now, I've facing a certain problem where today, I finally found the solution about.
    my problem
The problem I was having, is that some applications (they're optimised for stereo) played sound on my center speaker differently than those who use the windows 7 drivers. What happened in a nutshell, is that when I play sound in flash, the center speaker volume is about 3 times as loud as all the other speakers. Although this gives a nice and clear sound for presentations, this can be a pain when you want to listen to music.
    my setup
For me, this is a bit awkward, because I have a big room where my speakers are positioned for my TV. My computer is next to my tv, but my center speaker is not in front of my pc monitor, but rather in front of my tv. Due to this, the right ear gets way more sound than my left one. Strangely enough, it weren't all the applications that had trouble with this. My music player plays everything equally throughout my speakers.
    the mixer
The creative mixer (startup console) has several ways of tweaking this. Like assigning what channels to play if sound gets played through L/R, and their individual volume bars. You can guess it maybe. Changing these settings affected both applications differently. I could use the sliders to fix one, and then mess up the other. So when I went through all my settings I couldn't find what causes this.
    CMSS is the fault here
I went reading this forum, and came to this post: http://forums.creative.com/t5/Sound-Blaster/How-to-enable-sound-for-my-center-rear-and-side-speakers-using/td-p/52 What gives, this option is not available when you are in Audiocreation mode. So it shouldn't affect my sound right? WRONG!
    the problem
Even though you can't tweak the settings during audio creation mode, the settings are still in affect. So you have to switch to entertainment mode to access the CMSS-3D. I went there, and I had stereo enhancing surround enabled. When I changed that, it solved my problem. Since during audio creation, I mainly use stereo applications, I do not need surround enhancement.
    my setup now
I turned it off, and as suspected, windows only parses sound to the left and right, not the other channels, even in audio creation mode. In the mixer, I have enabled output to all 7 channels I have for L/R output, and now the sound gets balanced to all my speakers. True, I get stereo sound over all the speakers, but when I want to use surround, I switch to the entertainment mode anyway.
Could a mod sticky this? I think its worth to have this stickied.

So my touchpad wasn't working and I have an HP dv6-6135dx. It started being messed up shortly after I took my PC apart to upgrade the screen. Sometimes it worked perfectly, sometimes it was completely unresponsive, sometimes the ring around the touchpad was lit, other times it wasn't etc.... It got worse and worse to the point where the touch pad almost never worked.
I followed this guide, and it didn't fix the problem; however, this got me thinking, and I pulled the keyboard out and reseated the touchpad cable where it connects right under there. BAM works perfectly. THANK YOU so much for this post, for some reason I didn't think to reseat the cable... I must have not plugged it back in completely when I took my laptop apart. You can find the service manual for the dv6t here Its in the first post

  • "Please Read This Before Posting Here" font large enough?

    To whom it may concern,
Perhaps if you can't change anything else maybe changing the size of that font might help.
Really, (and clearly) something needs to be changed about the way Discussions is organized. I see nothing but excuses about topics being mistakenly posted in the wrong forums.
I hope that something "is" being done to correct this issue in Discussion forums. Personally, I feel that far too many new users are posting in the wrong forums. The quantity of how many is way beyond what should be seen in my opinion. This has to show some proof that the way the Discussions is setup is just not working properly and corrections need to be made. And not just here in the Feedback About Discussions forum but across the board.
One can understand perhaps an erroneous topic being posted in, for example, 10.3 and earlier whereas it should be posted in the 10.4 Tiger forum where no huge banner states posting procedure but when one sees the amount of off topics in this forum it is just a joke now. Obviously, these users are not posting here intentionally knowing it is the wrong forum. For what ever reason they have wound up here and don't realize that it is incorrect. I believe it "is" the responsibility of the forums to make sure these posts are posted correctly and not by just moving them but to change the way the discussions are setup/operate so that it doesn't happen to begin with.
    Please do something,

    J.K. ROFLing,
    What do you suggest littleshoulders?
I have made suggestions, whereas others have not but have also asked for changes here in regards to posting topic probems.
A suggestion I have made was to force the user whichever way they enter discussions to fill in a form that directs the user to the most appropriate forum. This doesn't need to be a long form but I'm sure you have seen this type of form on other sites that narrow a search down.
I'm certainly not an expert (I assume Apple has enough on staff to handle the logistics) and would only venture a guess as to what might be asked on the form to narrow the search.
Most importantly, I can't believe that the form would be any more labor intensive on the user than navigating through the Discussion pages to get to an appropriate forum. And quite frankly, even if it were it would certainly direct the user to an appropriate forum saving huge amounts of wasted time trying to get their support.
    "Computer: iMac G3
    OS version: OS X v10.3.9
What is you computer problem or support topic: Terminal problem"
I'm sure there would have to be other menu options (pop-ups and user filled info) for this type of search process but that is an abbreviated example for this excercise.
These directing forms are used all over the internet to direct the user to the appropriate product, support or otherwise.
I contend that the way that Discussions is presented currently that it needs this type of user interface to work properly.
In closure, I have to say that I don't believe in status quo and think that any change for the better is welcome and I bet all those novice users who struggle with posting topics correctly would agree. They obviously need more help than what is currently offered with posting.
    regards,
    littleshoulders

  • Please Read This if You Need Help Setting Up Email...

    Hi Everyone!
If you are hoping to use your Nokia phone for send and receiving emails you will need to set this up prior to use.
You may find that your phone has already been setup to send and receive emails by your network. This will be for the email address that has been provided to you by your network. If you would like to set up your phone for another email account, like your private or work email account, this will need to be set up by you.
The easiest way to do this is to order the settings from our site. You can do this from this link: Nokia Settings Page Here you can order all the settings you might need, to get your email settings click on Order Advance Settings and choose email when prompted.
Dont worry if you can't see your email provider in that list, if you have Nokia PC Suite installed you can connect your phone to your PC and configure your email account with some software.
If you have a 9500, 9300 or 9300i communicator you can go here: Nokia Configuartion Tool
If you have 3220, 6230i, 8800, 6810, 6820 or 6822 you can go here: Nokia Email Configuration Tool
If you have a series 60 phone like a 6680 or 7610 etc you can install the Settings Wizard from here: Nokia Settings Wizard. This application will attempt to configure your email settings for you. You will need a working installation of PC Suite to install this from your PC. If you are able to get the installation file on to your phone you will be able to install from there.
If your phone has not been listed in any of the above points, then unfortunately you will need to configure the phone manually. If you need to do this you will have to find out some basic information first:
    Your incoming server address
    Your outgoing server address
Do you require a secure incoming/outgoing connection?
    Do you need SSL?
Your email provider will be able to provide all this information, if you get stuck during the setup on what you should be entering for a setting, your email provider will be able to help you out.
Hope this is enough to help some of you out, any comments are welcome - just send me a PM.
    Cheers
    Karim
EDIT: Updated link to the phonesettings pageMessage Edited by ajak on 20-Aug-2007 04:27 PM

Road Runner is a pain at times to get to work on both Wi-Fi and EDGE. It seems as if their outgoing mail server doesn't like to roam. CWMX is ONLY for use on the cellular network, and if you plan on using Wi-Fi to send e-mails periodically, CWMX will NOT work.
My solution: Sign up for a GMAIL account, and forward your e-mails to the GMAIL account (provided POP access is enabled). Just log-in to this GMAIL account with your iPhone, and you'll get all your e-mails! If you need any help, let me know, I'll be glad to get you some directions.

    Hi Ralphael,
I was thinking of buying the WD MyCloud box and your words of wisedom inspired me to take a risk, getting one of these for myself. It's always a gamble buying new technology bits and hoping it will do, what you expect it to do.
First thing I did was connect the WD MyCloud to my network (entrirely 1 Gb network capable ports - including router).I updated the firmware to the latest via the network connection, which was reasonably quick to update.
Everything worked perfectly, straight from go,  the 3 Tb of data I had on my former Seagate GoFlex (manually connected to a SATA port on my P.C) only took a few hours to completely copy across.  I tried transferring the wholelot across via the Seagate GoFlex 100mB/s ethernet port, but that was horrendously slow.
I loved the way I could get access to this device, via the internet, (wd2go.com) to the files stored on my WD MyCloud (at home). It indeed acted as a "Cloud" device for me as I could map the connection to a network drive on my P.C and then
copy files across to my P.C (wherever I am) - Just drag and drop from explorer and it's pretty quick to transfer across as well.
I just wanted to say this box is fanatastic and I am very happy with it. I know there have been a few critics out therewho haven't had good things to say, but I think they need to make sure everything fits the criteria for successful results,
which this device is well capable of producing. I had the experience of using a Seagate GoFlex device and that took a while before I got things working reasonably
well for me. It's good to have a device that now well exceeds the capability of this former device.
Very happy with this WD MyCloud and my experiences with it.
    Added Kudos for your article.
    Cheers
    Patrick

also to new users, please create a signature in the User Control Panel listing your system specifications.
too many people are posting questions like "MSIPVS don't work, please help" but if you don't tell us what your system is, its like asking your GP to diagnose medical problems over the phone - ie, guesswork!! also it helps if you give us your location, ie Seattle, USA; Norwich, UK; Kabul, Afghanistan; for local TV issues.
any users with the MS8606 TV@nywhere Master should first try the Unofficial BETA drivers for this product listed in my sticky at the top of this forum, looking through the release notes for this, it fixes many problems that users have posted about.
plus make sure all your system and vga drivers are up-to-date, here are some links:

MSIPVS (or other InterVideo software) won't work if Windows has been installed to a partition other than C:, Mega PC users should disable the card reader by either unplugging it from the motherboard, or temporarily disabling the USB controller in BIOS before installing Windows to ensure it sees drive C: as default installation drive.
This should avoid any "antenna & afghanistan" default configurations in MSIPVS, but please ensure your correct region and TV standard settings are selected, and the correct cable / antenna connection is selected.
    Mega PC series
Users using a Mega series barebone PC with MediaCentre III (ugh) should also search through the Mega PC series forum for further assistance there.
    Hope this helps

sorry, think i must have slipped on something

  • Dont read this if you dont want to make money

MAKE LOTS OF MONEY QUICKLY, GUARANTEED 100%, NO SCAM!
Turn 6.00 into 42,000! This is true!!.... Read this carefully to find out how!!....
READING THIS WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE!
I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it. A little while back, I was browsing
through newsgroups, and came across an article similar to this that said you could make thousands
of cash within weeks with only an initial investment of .00! So I thought, "Yeah right, this<br />
must be a scam", but like most of us, I was curious, so I kept reading.
Before you get skeptical, just take a few minutes to finish reading.
    HERE'S HOW IT WORKS
WITH THIS PLAN, YOU REALLY CAN MAKE TONS OF TOTALLY LEGAL, FAST AND EASY CASH MONEY!! IT WORKS!!!
BUT YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW IT CAREFULLY FOR IT TO WORK CORRECTLY AND IN YOUR FAVOR!!!! WITH ALL
THE MONEY YOU ARE GONNA MAKE, YOU WILL SOON GET EVERYTHING YOU'VE ALWAYS DREAMED OF!!!!
    ALL YOU DO IS...
All you do is send $1.00 to each of the 6 names and address stated in the article. You then
place your own name and address in the bottom of the list at #6, and post the article in at
least 200 newsgroups. (There are thousands.) No catch, that was it . So after thinking it over,
and talking to a few people first, I thought about trying it. I figured, what have I got to
lose except 6 stamps and 6.00, right? Like most of us I was a little skeptical and a little
worried about the legal aspects of it
all. So I checked it out with the U.S. Post Office (1-800-725-2161) and they confirmed that
    it is indeed legal!
    AND THEN GUESS WHAT...
Then I invested the measly 6.00. Well, GUESS WHAT!!... Within 7 days, I started getting money
just kept coming in. In my first week, I made about 25. By the end of the second week I had
made a total of over 1,000! In the third week I had over 10,000 and it's still growing. This
is now my fourth week and I have made a total of just over 42000, and it's still coming in
rapidly. It's certainly worth 6. and 6 stamps. By the way, I have spent more than that on the
lottery in the last month!! Let me tell
you how this works and most importantly, why it works.... also, make sure you print a copy of
this article NOW, So you can get the information off of it, as you need it.
SO LET'S GET STARTED AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS
    STEP 1:
Get 6 separate pieces of paper and write the following on eash piece of paper, "PLEASE PUT MY<br />
NAME ON YOUR MAILING LIST." Also, be sure to include your name and address. Now, get 6 U.S.
$1.00 bills and place ONE inside EACH of the 6 pieces of paper so the bill will not be seen
through the envelope, to prevent thievery. Next, place one paper in each of the 6 envelopes
and seal them. You should now have 6 sealed envelopes, each with a piece of paper stating the
above phrase, your name and address email
, and a $1.00 bill. What you are doing is creating a service by this. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL!
    STEP 2 :
Mail the 6 envelopes to the following addresses:
#1 Randall Hines 22 Stature Dr. Newark DE 19713
#2 Mike Sharrer 921 West State St. Coopersburg PA 18036
#3 Travis Montgomery 2211 Elmers Lane Norfolk NE 68701
#4 James Adair the third 22 Over Rd. Feasterville PA 19053
#5 Michael Lescault 123 Rhode Island Ave. Pawtucket, RI. 02860
    #6 Michael Hendrock 106 S.academy St. Lodi, Ohio 44254
    STEP 3:
Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move the other names up (6 becomes 5,
5 becomes 4, etc.) and add YOUR Name as number 6 on the list.
    STEP 4:
Change anything you need to, but try to keep this article as close to original as possible.
If you do not live in the U.S. or there is a foreign address, you must put an international
stamp on your envelopes. Now, post your amended article to at least 200 newsgroups. ( I think
there are close to 24,000 groups in all.) All you need is 200, but remember, the more you post,
    the more money you make!!
DIRECTIONS FOR POSTING TO NEWSGROUP BULLETINS
STEP 1: You do not need to re-type this entire letter to do your own posting. Simply put you
cursor at the beginning of this letter and drag your cursor to the bottom of this letter. Then
select 'copy' from the edit menu.
This will copy the entire letter into the computer's temporary memory.
STEP 2: Open a blank 'notepad' or word processor file and place your cursor at the top of the
blank page. From the 'edit' menu select 'paste'. This will paste a copy of the letter into
notepad so that you can add your name to the list.
STEP 3: Save your new notepad file as a *.txt file. If you want to do your postings in different
sittings, you'll always have this file to fo back to.
STEP 4: Use your Internet provider and search engines to find various newsgroups (on-line forums,
    message boards, chat sites, discussions).
STEP 5: Visit these message boards and post this article as a new message by higlighting the
text of this letter and selecting paste from the edit menu. Fill in the Subject, and this will
be the header that everyone sees as they scroll through the list of postings in a particular
group. Then click the post message button. You're done with your first one!
    Congratulations...
THAT'S IT! All you have to do is jump to different newsgroups and post away. After you get the
hang of it, it will only take about 30 seconds for each posting!!
** REMEMBER, THE MORE NEWSGROUPS YOU POST IN, THE MORE MONEY YOU WILL MAKE!! ----BUT YOU HAVE
TO POST A MINIMUM OF 200**----- That's it!
You will begin receiving money from around the world within days! You may eventually want to
rent a P.O. Box due to the large amount of mail you will receive. If you wish to stay anonymous,
you can invent a name to use , as long as the postal service will deliver it.
JUST MAKE SURE ALL THE ADDRESSES ARE CORRECT
    WITH 200 POSTINGS
Out of 200 postings, say I receive only 5 replies ( a very low example). So then I made 5.00
with my name at #6 on the letter. Now, each of the 5 persons who just sent me $1.00 make the
MINIMUM 200 postings, each with my name at #5, and only 5 persons repond to each of the original
5, that is another 25. Then those 25 each make 200 MINIMUM posts with my name at #4, and only
5 relies to each, and I will bring in an additional125! Now, those 125 persons turn around
and post the MINIMUM 200 with my
name at #3 and only receive 5 replies each, and I will make an additional 625! OK, now here
is the fun part... Each of those 625 persons post a MINIMUM 200 letters with my name at #2,
and they each only receive 5 replies, that just made me 3125!!! Those 3,125 persons will all
deliver this message to 200 newsgroups with my name at #1, and if still 5 persons per 200 newsgroups
react, I will receive an amazing 15625!
With an original investment of only 6! AMAZING!
    DO IT OVER AND OVER
When your name is no longer on the list, you just take the latest posting in the newsgroups,
and send out another 6 to names on the list, putting your name at #6 again. Then start posting
again. That's it! Do you realize that thousands of honest people just like you all over the
world are joining the Internet and reading these articles everday? So can you afford 6 and
see if it really works?? I think so..
People have said, "what if the plan is played out and no one sends you the money?" So what!
What are the chances of that happening when there are tons of new honest users who are joining
the Internet and newsgroups everyday? So, are you willing to give it a try? Estimates are about
20,000 to 50,000 new bulletin board users everyday, with thousands of those joining the Internet
itself. ---Remember please play FAIRLY! This ensures a huge circle of wealth that grows with
    the Internet audience!!! Everyone
benefits!!! Remember To Send The Six Envelopes To The Above Addresses, In Order To Create The
Legal Service. At first I was scared to try this, but once I research it, I found that it is
totally legal. When you send the six envelopes out, you create a service, a legal service.
The Internet audience is expanding all the time. The audience is like an equity stock on the
stock market, continuously going up. If you still think this is a fraud, take a few minutes
to check it out, then.... you can start
    raking in the
    cash!!
THIS CAN WORK IF WE ARE ALL IN IT TOGETHER!!!!

What a pile of dreck !
    ROTFLMAO
... to have so little to do, and so much time to do it in ...
that you crawl the web to paste such as this here,
and expect that anyone will actually believe you.
It violates the Terms of Use and the Code of Conduct that you agreed to when you registered.
Now, if the site Admin's had any initiative, they would summarily ban you, revoking your forum access, as is done in other Sun forums.

  • Read this if you can't hear callers or voicemail o...

If you can no longer hear callers, cannot hear your voicemail, and are tearing your hair out trying to get any help from the obvious sources (your service provider, Nokia, your local store) - do not panic.
Call 121, as if you are making a vm call. While it is connecting, adjust the volume control button on the right of the phone. You will find that this volume control button operates on a 1-10 scale and is completely different from the one that is normally adjustable from the main screen, which operates on a 1-30 scale. Hopefully you will start to hear the recorded voice and all will be well.
This is not mentioned anywhere in the handbook or any of the online resources. I eventually found a clue via a different help site - but couldn't find where the 2nd volume control was. Thank goodness I eventually stumbled upon it by accident.
I know I am not the only one to have lost connection with a caller half-way through a conversation. It must be a design fault of some sort. I am just relieved that I did not follow the Nokia diagnostics advice to reset my phone to factory settings (after backing up etc etc), or pay out vast ££s for the privilege of sending off my phone for a non-existent repair.
I am not techy - but I am posting this in the hope that it will save others the frustration, expense and time I have wasted over the past 3 days trying to get any sense out of Vodafone and Nokia. (I am sorry if that breaches some form of discussion board protocol - but it is a fact.)
If anyone from Nokia is reading this will you PLEASE update your handbooks to include this information, and take account of it within your online diagnostics page, which told me to restore factory settings. (Fortunately I have no idea how to backup data on my phone, and the advice didn't tell me either.)
If anyone from Vodafone is reading this, will you PLEASE train your sales staff and helpdesk staff to understand this problem.
Feeling calmer now ... off to make a large mug of coffee.

This is normal an also the same with other phone brands and OS. Even on android and IOS the call volume is different from the general volume of the phone. If you have a non-lumia nokia phone, it is also the same.
