Plot chart- embbeding a custom swf file

I'm currently using the plot chart element to display dynamic from a MySQL database. I decided I wanted to use a custom embedded swf file. The issue I'm running into is the way the swf file looks. Is there a way keep the original size (width/height) and not have to look deformed? Adjusting the radius only makes the swf "fatter".
Here is the code that I'm using:
   <mx:series>
    <mx:PlotSeries
     id="plot"
     xField="xfieldname"
     yField="yfieldname"
     radius ="45"
     itemRenderer="@Embed(source='file:/C:/images/movie.swf')"
     showDataEffect="slideUp"
     />
   </mx:series>
  </mx:PlotChart>

Hi,
there are two very distinct things: one is to emit an actual swf, and the other one is to tell an existing swf to show something....
Now assume your user can choose a few symbols from the library and drag them around .... and imagine an xml file that liss the symbol name and its coordinates on stage as well as its scaling factor.
Next assume the user can click somewhere to type text ... and imagine the xml file to contain text entries with actual text, font size, and coordinates
I did something with AS2 following this scheme: a server script copied the existing swf and added an actionscript block equivalent to the above-mentioned xml file. I have not studied details of AS3 files enough to tell whether the same is possible with AS3, but I sort of believe that an xml string embedded as a byte string could be amended / replaced in a similar way

  • Chart rendering and swf files

    Hi:
    I am using Apex 4.0.2
    I have a dashboard that has several charts on it. I have a couple of issues:
    1. The chart rendering takes longer than I would like. I notice that each chart loads a separate swf file by referencing #CHART_TYPE#. In the Anychart documentation they recommend load a nultple type swf for a dashboard (anychart.swf). Is there a way I can load one single swf file instead of load a separate chart for each file?
    2. When the page reloads, sometimes one or two of the charts start loading but don't display. If you reload again, they will load. Any idea what the issue may be and how to resolve it?
    I would be appreciative of any help.

    I'll give it a go.... but a couple of quick questions:
    1. The server is running on a Linux box. Can I set the listener up on my local windows machine and use it from there to test.Yes that's the whole trick of it.. On the blog there are also some articles regarding Linux
    BTW if you do put it on your local box, then you will need an oracle client, but I trust that this is logical. :-)

    2. If I do swap the prod system to use the listener, does the whole setup have to change? For example, at the moment the images are in the XDB - how will this be impacted.Depends on what images you're talking about..
    - up/downloads for users stay the same
    - CSS etc (the apex images folder) will reside in the filesystem

  • Embedding Flash Charts (*.swf-file) to WebTemplate

    Hi, due to customer requests we want to embedd Flash Charts to our WebTemplate in BI7.0. The examples we´ve got contain JavaScript and the necessary staff. There are *.swf files available. But is it possible to use the Scripting in a WebItem Chart ? Has someone just experience in that ? I´m looking forward for some interesting information. I couldn´t find the right answer yet here.

  • Charting / custom plot chart advice?

    Hi, I'm trying to build a customized chart in Flex that might
    be a bit over my current skill level so I was hoping I could get a
    tip how to approach this. Essentially it will be a plot chart with
    an associated data table. The plot chart will have only one series
    of data but each point on the chart shall indicate a range. Instead
    of having two dots on the chart (2 series) that indicate the lower
    and higher bound, I want to have, in essence, two dots that are
    joined by a wide long bar. If that's too hard I might go for just a
    thick bar going from lower bound to upper bound. I believe this
    should be done with just one data series indicating the upper and
    lower value because both values really belong together. The user
    would click anywhere on that bar to select it. So there is only one
    item to interact with per point and therefore there is also only
    tooltip for both. The bars are not evenly spaced out but based on
    date information, so I'd use a Data-Time axis horizontally and a
    regular linear axis vertically.
    I believe the right way to build this is a custom renderer
    for the actual datapoint and that's where I was looking for a
    tip/advice. Is that hard to do? Is there some classes that I can
    tweak into doing that for me without writing custom components or
    such?
    The other thing I want to achieve (after I solved this one)
    is to have a data grid associated with the chart. When one data
    item is clicked in the chart, the corresponding row in the table
    gets highlighted, and vice versa, if the user clicks a row in the
    table, the corresponding chart item is highlighted. I think that's
    doable too, it's just a bit tricky with how the events are flying
    around I think. But, as I said, first I need to figure out the
    chart.
    If anybody has some advice how I should approach that I sure
    would appreciate it. I experimented around with Bubble charts over
    a category axis for a while but I think it really should be done
    with a plot chart over a time axis and maybe a custom renderer for
    the data point.
    Thanks a bunch!

  • SWF File creation tool for Unifier Custom Dashboards

    Hello Everyone,
    I am looking for a tool that can allow me to create SWF files to be used for Custom Dashboard. I know that using third-party SWF file creation tools, swf template files can be created and we can build custom dashboards in Unifier.
    Can anyone provide me with list of SWF file creation tools that you have used for Unifier dashboards.
    Thanks

    The only tool that the SWF Dashboards were designed to work with is Xcelcius. Please bear in mind that only legacy Skire customers that had created SFW dashboards have the ability to use SWF dashboards.

  • Chart preview (swf file) doesn't scale Y axis correctly, shows 0 to 6 only!

    Hi Everybody
    This is my first post on this forum.
    I am trying to generate an interactive chart using the most simple functionality of using 2 comboboxes and 1 line chart.
    The selected values from the 2 comboboxes are supposed to go in to 2 cells on the spreadsheet. The spreadsheet cells that are used to create the chart are then updated. The updated chart can be seen on the canvas with proper values along the Y (Values) axis. However, when I click on the "Preview" button - as it generates the swf file, it shows the comboboxes with the correct labels and it permits to change my selection therein but the chart is always blank because the scale of the Y axis is from 0 through to 6 - and no values for any combination of the 2 comboboxes fall within 0 and 6.
    What do I need to do to address this Y axis scaling problem? The current setting for scaling is Auto with 'Linear' entered for "Fixed label size".
    Please help - I am desperate to know what is happening here! The Excel formula works, the chart on the canvas is updated but not on the preview. I am using Xcelcius Engage 2008 application.
    Best regards
    Deepak Agarwal

    Hello RashmiG
    I doubt if the problem relates to the size of the chart. I believe that the problem could be related to the installation not being complete (since the key that we currently have is a temporary key only provided by SAP) or something of the sort - the reason I say that is because whilst the chart did not get updated with the combobox component, it did get updated with the filter component ((I used it on 3 tab sheets with varying number of variables in the filter ranging from 2 to 3). With the the filter component (with 2 or even 3 variables) it all worked ok. So I resigned myself to using the filter component instead of the combobox.
    Whilst I have got you, could you advise me of the advantage that a component offers over the other - in this case, the filter over the combobox or the other way around?
    One other thing, if I may ask you - is it possible to drive Xcelsius using Excel VBA. The reason I want to do this is to be able to do the following from with Excel VBA:-
    1. Open Xcelsius
    2. Import a spreadsheet in to Xcelsius
    3. Export the dashboard in the desired format
    I can do everything else that I would need to do to update the input spreadsheet from within Excel VBA with the exception of the above 3 tasks.
    If you or anyone can help me realize the above, that would be a monumental assitance. The same shall be highly valued.
    Best regards

  • DataTip box to appear near the plot for Plot Chart

    Hi,
    I am using a Plot chart.
    I use three Plot series for the chart.
    I show the plots for one series at a time.
    When I show the Data tips for each plot, I am getting a long line connecting the plot & the DataTip (as shown in attachment).
    I would like the DataTip box to appear near the plot.
    How to accomplish this ?
    - Sen

    The bottom line is that it does not work reliably, Tim.
    I had occasion to scan old Kodachrome slides (2x2" in cardboard mount), and placed identifying markers with "Talk Bubbles."
    Open your picture file
    Access the  Custom Shape Tool (U). On the tool's option bar at the top next to "Shapes", click on the arrow and find the "Talk Bubbles" library. In that there are several shapes which you can drag into position. The shapes fill with the foreground color (see chips, lower left of work-space)
    Next, use the Type tool for the name.
    Note that you can position the shape and the name with the move tool, and resize with the corner handles of the bounding box -- the advantage of doing things in layers.

  • Can Captivate 7's playback controls control Flash swf files?

    Hi folks,
    I have created a swf file using Adobe Flash and I have imported it as an animation slide in Captivate 7. I have turned on the playback controls to just have the play button and the progress bar. When I export the presentation, the playback controls do not work. The scrubber moves as the presentation is playing, but I can't pause the presentation. When I stop the scrubber or even move it left or right, it does not affect the presentation and it just keeps playing. Am I doing something wrong? I don't want to have to create a custom nav bar in Flash as it would just be easier to use Captivate's playback bar.

    I don't think it can be expained quickly as it can be very complicated. But...
    Select New Project/Widget in Flash and choose static widget. You need to be very adept in AS3 to actually get them to work.

  • How to generate SWF file with dynamic data but no live connection

    Hello,
    We got a requirement where we have to email out SWF file either in PPT or outlook generated from BOBJ universe. When the file reaches the customer who would be outside our network with no access to our servers or data should be able to view the swf file with data. So the goal is to generate these files automatically and should not prompt for BOBJ login or wouldn't have ability to query the database but need to report data pertaining to the customer.
    Any help in this regards is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Manohar

    Hi Manohar,
    You can use QAAWS(query as a web services) and build your queries on universe.
    You get an option of hardcoding the user id and password in the data connection for QAAWS which will not asks the users for login credentials.
    This will hepl the user to veiw the latest data from the database and the user wont be asked for login too.
    Thanks,
    Amit.

  • SWF file is not working in Portal PROD System

    Hi All,
              We have written custom mxml script in Adobe Flex 3 which displays the list of applications stored in the DB. Then we have posted that .swf file into our Portal KM and then we have created one URL iView with the location from KM.
    These days we are facing issue like the output of the script is not working means the applications are not listed on the portal prod system.
    Whenever the issue arieses we are requested to upload the file once again into KM and it works after the upload been done.
    We are not sure what could be the reason for this issue and I request any one to assist us to resolve this issue.
    Please let me know if you need more info on this issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Vijaykumar K.

    Hi Vijay,
    I belive this should be a portal issue, anyways let me give it a try.
    I never worked on flex in SAP but did similar stuff in portal content development.
    Do you have any traces in that development..?
    Did you check any messages being loged in portal...?
    Check if there is any issue with the file like couldn't recognise a resource from KM which is required etc.
    Cheers,

  • Swf files appearing in preview (D8) but not n browser after uploading - frustrated!

    Hello,
    I have worked with Flash and Dreamweaver on the side for a
    number of years. We all know that after the recent changes, the way
    it handles object and embed tags has changed to favor Java
    actionscripts instead.
    This code I am about to paste was created using Dreamweaver
    8.02, with transitional (x) html. Now mind you, this is not the
    prettiest piece of code you've ever seen. I now am learning to use
    CSS layouts instead of layers/tables, with php and flash
    integrated. This one example is not the only time I have had this
    problem however.
    I made a silly flash banner (its actually a placeholder for a
    better one I have to develop) for testing purposes and sizing. It
    appears fine in Firefox, and IE6 in the preview mode via
    Dreamweaver. When I upload it all to the site, the flash banner
    does not appear.
    I have tried copying the FLA and SWF files to the root folder
    (the fla, swf, and html files generated are all present), and tried
    a number of variations in the code and parameters to no avail. The
    darn thing just won't appear now. Similarly older pages I have
    created that Dreamweaver now prompts you to "fix the object tag
    that may not work in IE7...etc" have the same issue. If I select
    "go ahead and fix them for me", they are visible in production, but
    gone after uploading.
    Now to remove the possibility that this was a layering or
    parent tag issue of visibility, I created a blank HTML page and
    "insert/media/flash" and stuck the banner in there, then uploaded
    it to my server. It doesn't appear.
    I need help. I have been scouring the web for a few days now
    to no avail and have become quite frustrated with what used to be a
    really easy integration of Flash and html.
    Here is the top chunk of code from the page in question: (the

  • Flash .swf file not appearing in browser when publishing from iWeb 3.02

    I have been working on a site for the last couple of months that i created in iWeb 2.0 and had successfully had small flash movies that I embedded via html snippets from code provided by numerous sources and youtube videos demonstrating how to get flash movies into one's site.
    The url is
    www.almafoods.com
    Today i upgraded to 3.02 and had to make a change to the home page. The domain opened up fine with all the HTML code and .swf on the page exactly as I had it in version 2.0
    When I now publish to a folder, first of all it doesn't copy over the .swf file unless I create a link to the file, but even when I upload all the directories to my ISP's remote server, the movie isn't not showing up in the browser. The html code file and .swf file are in their correct directories on my ISP's remote server
    I'm baffled as to what is going on here as its the exact same domain that worked perfectly in 2.0 and this has peed me off no end
    Does anyone have any suggestions or encountered the same problem in 3.02?
    Any advice would be very much appreciated

    Your .swf files are in the same folder as the widget-markup files.
    Keep your custom files OUTSIDE the folder with the sitename iWeb creates.
    iWeb will overwrite everything when it needs to do that, wiping out your custom files.
    Put the files in a separate folder and determine the link to these files.

    Besides that, to display these tiny pictures I wouldn't use Flash.

    And then look at this page : My House

  • Error while importing swf file in to Crystal Xcelsius Designer 4.5

    help me...., Error while importing swf file in to Crystal Xcelsius Designer 4.5

    I read in the book called "CRYSTAL XCELSIUS for DUMMIES" on page 243 under topic called Nesting a Dashboard within another Dashboard.
    sorry i used the wrong word embed, here i am importing the swf using image component.
    My requirement is somethis like this parent child dependency menu.
    eg: i have to two tabs 1)alphabets 2) Numerics  First levet menu
    if you click alphabets tab then the following menu A/B/C/D/..... Z i have diff charts.. under each alphabet.
    If you click numberic tab then the follwing menu should one/two/three/.......ten  here also i have diff charts under number
    in over to avoid complexity in dynamic visibility i divided the into 3 dashboards.  1- alphabets 2- number and 3 -importing both swfs.. everything works fine except first tab and last tab under alphabets and numerics.
    If some one help me with some alernative ... would be great.
    Thanks

  • Lightroom photo galleries and their swf files

    I have a question about using the photo galleries that lightroom exports in flash catalyst.  what I'm trying to do is use multiple photo galleries for different states in my flash application (www.negativeselfimage.com is the site).  flash catalyst allows you to import as many swfs as you want, but the problem is the gallerydata.xml files, and the images folders, which are different for every gallery I export.  I mucked my way around in flash builder to point to custom folders I built, so each swf file is in its own folder with its own materials.  however, the swf file seems to be looking for gallerydata.xml in an absolute directory.
    my basic question is, how can I get that swf file to either point to a relative path place (it should still be relatively the same) or allow me to change to where it points to?
    either that, or -- if this seems like the wrong path -- how can I use multiple lightroom swf galleries in one flash catalyst or flash builder application?
    thanks,  aemilia

    I've the same question... FC is quite nice, but they have to develop more, I think

  • Crosshair mouse tracker on Plot Chart

    Hi All,
    I have implemented a flex plot chart, which works fine (able to plot items to it).  I want to add a cross hair tracking device that will move along with the mouse.  The cross hair will draw a simple horizontal and vertical line crossing at the mouse pointer to the edges of the chart.  I already have registered for the mouse move event (I have a status line that prints the real world values based on x/y position as the mouse moves).  The crosshair implementation I have tried implementing causes the mouse tracking to act very strange...almost, in a lagging type behaviour.  I am using a Graphics object from the plot chart object.  I do a clear each time before I redraw the crosshair (as the mouse moves).  The 'clear' seems to be the core of the lag problem (if I comment out the 'clear', the tracking works fine..but of course the crosshair from the previous mouse position doesnt erase).  I didnt see an 'xor' type of function which is what I have used on like projects before. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    my plot char is  called tlat_chart.
    var G:Graphics = tlat_chart.graphics;
    G.clear();
    G.moveTo(somex, somey);
    G.lineTo(newx, somey);
    etc......

    Take a look at Eli's custom chart annotations here: http://demo.quietlyscheming.com/ChartSampler/app.html
