Plotting a range of numbers and making a chart

I've got a feeling this is something simple that I'm just missing.
I've got a column of values between 1-100. I'm looking to create a chart that breaks it into a series of ranges. So, I'd be able to display that there are X cells between 0-20, Y cells between 21-40, Z cells between 41-60 and so on.
I've found the LOOKUP function, but it seems like I'd have to search for "20" and not "1-20".
Thanks!

I'm sorry if I interpret your problem wrongly. If that is the case, please forgive me, knowing English is not my first language.
So, are you looking for a way to label (categorize) the data set according to the value in the cell with data ranging between 1-100? Something like, 0-20: Very bad, 21-40: Bad, 41-60: Neutral, 61-80: Good, 81-100: Very good?
If that is what you want to achieve, you can use IF function by nesting it several times. In the case above, there are five categories, therefore I need five conditional branchings, which means I need to nest IF function five times.
Suppose you have the value between 1 and 100 in the Column B, starting from B2 (B1 is for the heading of the column), and you want to show which category a row belongs to in the Column C. So C2 shows the category of B2, C3 does of B3, and so on. And in C2, I got the following formula:
=IF(
AND(B2>=1,B2<=20),
"Very bad",
IF(
AND(B2>=21,B2<=40),
"Bad",
IF(
AND(B2>=41,B2<=60),
"Neutral",
IF(
AND(B2>=61,B2<=80),
"Good",
IF(
AND(B2>=81,B2<=100),
"Very good"
)</div>
The first IF clause checks whether the value belongs to "Very bad" category, then the second IF clause checks whether the value belongs to "Bad" category, and so on, and finally the fifth IF clause checks whether the value belongs to "Very good" category.
You can expand the formula above as long as you want, based on how many categories you want to have. I think this is a little cumbersome and I guess there must be another way which uses some type of Reference Functions, but unfortunately I don't know. I hope this helps. Good luck.

  • Find a range of numbers in one cell and output in another

    Here I am again with something I just can't seem to find an answer to:
    I need to find the range of numbers in one cell and place that value in another, like so:
    Cell A1 says: "3 - 8"
    Cell A2 returns: 5
    Any simple formula to do this?

    Hi gunkie83,
    Yvan's formula does perform properly. He stated: Here the decimal separator is comma so Numbers use the semi-colon as parameters separator but the formula is OK. CAUTION, here I left the semi-colons.
    Yvan is in France using the French version of iWork. For the U.S.A. semicolons need to be changed to a comas as I have in the following formulae.
    =VALUE(LEFT(A,SEARCH("-",A)-1))-VALUE(RIGHT(A,LEN(A)-SEARCH("-",A)))
    this returns -5
    =ABS(VALUE(LEFT(A,SEARCH("-",A)-1))-VALUE(RIGHT(A,LEN(A)-SEARCH("-",A))))
    this returns 5
    One important observation in cell A2 the text reads as 3 - 8 not 3-8. Also it can be inputted as 3 -8 but not 3- 8. Watch those spaces. Fun huh.
    Hope this helps. Again Yvan thank you.
    Cordially,

  • SAME NUMBER RANGES FOR DOMESTIC AND EXPORT INVOICE

    Dear All,
    We have maintained Two objects separately for Exports and Domastic sales invoices which is inturn giving two different number ranges.
    But our client needs same number to be continued for both.
    For eg: 000001 .  000002 and 000003 is the number range for domastic invoices for Export invoice 00004 should come. now as we have maintained different objects Export invoice is starting from 00001.
    Our client does'nt want to maintain separate number ranges for Exports and Domastic, same number range should be there for both which should follow continues numbers.
    Please suggest me on this at the earliest.
    Regards,
    Jay

    Dear Jay
    Assuming that you are asking about Excise Invoice number ranges, please do maintain Numbers for the Object: J_1IEXCLOC
    When you go into J1IIN, you will need to mark the checkbox: Use Local Number. If at the first time (in the case of Deemed and Regular Exports), you do not see this checkbox, click on the 'Calculator' icon and hit the 'Back' icon. Mark the checkbox and save your Excise Invoice. This number will be a continuation of your Domestic Excise Invoice.
    thanks

  • Using the IF function with a range of numbers

    I am working with the IF function and trying to get it to work "if" the number I'm examining is within a range of numbers.
    Example:
    If a wigit costs between $1000 and $1999, then a discount of $100 is given
    If a wigit costs between $2000 and $2999, then a discount of $150 is given
    If a wigit costs between $3000 and $3999, then a discount of $225 is given
    And so on.
    If cell A1 always holds the current cost of the wigit being sold.
    cell B1,B2,B3 holds the value of the discount values respectively.
    In cell C1 I would like to return what the current discount value is to be given for the wigit price in cell A1?
    How do I do this using the IF function or is there another way?
    Thanks,
    Ryan

    HI Ryan,
    In this post you have, except for the issue noted by Badunit, the basis for the discount table described by Wayne:
    I'm trying to devise a way of knowing what Cash Card a customer will receive depending on the amount of the purchase, based on the following table:
    $0         to $999 purchase         =      $50 Cash Card
    $1,000 to $1,999 purchase     =     $100 Cash Card
    $2,000 to $2,999 purchase      =     $200 Cash Card
    $3,000 to $3,999 purchase      =      $300 Cash Card
    $4,000 to $4,999 purchase      =      $400 Cash Card
    $5,000 to $5,999 purchase      =     $550 Cash Card
    $6,000 to $6,999 purchase     =      $700 Cash Card
    $7,000 to $7,999 purchase      =     $850 Cash Card
    $8,000 to $8,999 purchase     =      $1,000 Cash Card
    $9,000 to $9,999 purchase     =     $1,200 Cash Card
    $10,000 to   UP   purchase     =     $1,500 Cash Card
    To take care of the issue noted by Badunit, you need to revise the top line to state the minimum purchase necessary to earn a cash card, then add a line above that to handle purchases under that amount. I've arbitrarily chosen a $500 minimum, which results in these two lines:
    $0             to $499 purchase        =      $0 Cash Card
    $500         to $999 purchase         =      $50 Cash Card
    To write this as Wayne's table, you need to remove all of the text (including the $ currency markers), the top end of each range, and the = sign. What you're left with is two columns of numbers: The bottom number of each range of values, and the number telling the dollar amount of the cash card for that range. Here's your table, edited to make it work with LOOKUP:
    Here is a second table (Main), containing only the labels and the two cells involved in the calculation of the cash card amount. The Purchase amount is the amount used in your example. The Cash Card amount is produced by the LOOKUP formula below the image.
    Purchase price is in cell B1 of the table "Main". The LOOKUP formula is in B2:
    B2: =LOOKUP(B1,CC Amt :: A,CC Amt :: B)
    LOOKUP acts essentially as you request in your post containing the iPad image with the time shown as 1:46. But it takes a much simpler approach.
    Here's the syntax:
    LOOKUP(search-for,search-where,return-from)
    LOOKUP gets the search-for value (2535) from cell B1.
    It looks in column A of the table "CC Amt" for the largest value less than or equal to the search-for value, and finds 2000.
    It returns the value from the same line of column B (200).
    Below are two more examples. Main-2 and Main-3 are copies of the Main table. Both contain exactly the same formula as Main, but have had a different Purchase price amount entered. LOOKUP uses the same CC Amt table as is used above, and returns the appropriate Cash Card value for each of the two new amounts:
    You may, as implied in your 1:46 post, use a pair of cells to calculate the Cash Card amount for each widget in the purchase, then total the Cash Card amounts, or you may use a single pair of cells, one containing the total purchase amount, the other containing the Cash Card amount due for that total. That choice is yours. The formula is the same for either case.

  • Finding missed sequence numbers and rows from a fact table

    Finding missed sequence numbers and rows from a fact table
    Hi
    I am working on an OLAP date cube with the following schema:
    As you can see there is a fact transaction with two dimensions called cardNumber and Sequence. Card dimension contains about three million card numbers.
    Sequence dimension contains a sequence number from 0 to 255. Fact transaction contains about 400 million transactions of those cards.
    Each transaction has a sequence number in 0 to 255 ranges. If sequence number of transactions of a card reaches to 255 the next transaction would get 0 as a sequence number.
    For example if a card has 1000 transactions then sequence numbers are as follows;
    Transaction 1 to transaction 256 with sequences from 0 to 255
    Transaction 257 to transaction 512 with sequences from 0 to 255
    Transaction 513 to transaction 768 with sequences from 0 to 255
    Transaction 769 to transaction 1000 with sequences from 0 to 231
    The problem is that:
    Sometimes there are several missed transactions. For example instead of sequence from 0 to 255, sequences are from 0 to 150 and then from 160 to 255. Here 10 transactions have been missed.
    How can I find all missed transactions of all cards with a MDX QUERY?
    I really appreciate for helps

    Thank you Liao
    I need to find missed numbers, In this scenario I want the query to tell the missed numbers are: 151,152,153,154,155,156,157,158,159
    Relative transactions are also missed, so I think it is impossible to get them by your MDX query
    Suppose this:
    date
    time
    sequence
    20140701
    23:22:00
    149
    20140701
    23:44:00
    150
    20140702
    8:30:00
    160
    20140702
    9:30:00
    161
    20140702
    11:30:00
    162
    20140702
    11:45:00
    163
    As you can see the sequence number of the last transaction at the 20140701 is 150
    We expecting that the first transaction of the next day should be 151 but it is 160. Those 10 transactions are totally missed and we just need to
    find missed sequence numbers

  • How do I select a range of numbers using IF function

    I am trying to select a name in a cell if the value of another cell is either a 5,6,7,8 or 9.  I have had success when I have just wanted numbers above 9 or below 5 by using formulas
    IF(Table 1::C3<5,T(Table 1::A3),T(Table 1::A2))
    And
    IF(Table 1::C3>9,T(Table 1::A3),T(Table 1::A2))
    But for the life of me can't get the range of numbers in between.
    I have tried including AND and OR functions in multiple ways but to no success.  I know I am overlooking some simple thing, I have tried scratching for nested if functions but no help there either, and the information file in numbers is horrendously useless.
    Please help.  I am using an ipad btw.

    This forum is generally for iPad and iOS problems. I doubt that you'll get an answer here.
    Furthermore, you don't say what app you are using. If Numbers, you should post here https://discussions.apple.com/community/app_store/iwork_for_ios

  • Averaging a range of numbers

    I'm looking to try and average a range of numbers, but instead of doing it by certain rows (that is, average rows A1 through A30), I'd like for Numbers to average cells if they fall into a certain numerical range (that is, average cells whose values are 1-30, but whose rows might be A1 through A70 or A1 through A42--you don't know). Since my cells are numerically ordered, I could go through and find myself the cells that fall into the range (is it A70 or A42?), but I have a few thousand rows so that's really not economical in terms of time. Could someone help me to figure out the function to average cells based on their numerical value?
    Thanks!

    Here's how you might set up the formula:
    The formula in B3:
           =AVERAGEIFS(Table 1::A,Table 1::A,">"&B1,Table 1::A,"<"&B2)
    It's a little tricky because you need the " " in the proper places.  You could hardcode the values into the formula itself with something like ">0" and "<31" but it's generally good practice to put the conditions in cells so you can vary them as needed.

  • IF Else (javascript) with a range of numbers

    I am creating form fields in a PDF using Acrobat.  There is a field which you enter an amount (1-20, 21-100, 100+) and depending on what is entered the cost will be different.  So if 1 thru 20 units are entered the cost will be $199 per unit, 21 thru 100 units the cost is $175 per unit and 100+ units the cost is $150 per unit.  The line on the document looks like:  Number of Entities___ X Price per Entity___= Total___.
    This is what I have so far to get the price;
    if (this.getField("No. of Entities").value == '1') {
    event.value = 199
    } else if (this.getField("No. of Entities").value == '21') {
    event.value = 175
    } else if (this.getField("No. of Entities").value == '101') {
    event.value = 150
    } else {
    event.value = 0 // Default value here
    I have it working for a single number, I just can't get a range of numbers.
    Any help would be great, thanks.

    The problem is in the logic of your condition.  This will only hit when you have the value of 1, 21, or 101.
    I'd suggest a different set of logic, based on <= operators
    if (this.getField("No. of Entities").value <= '20') {
    event.value = 199
    } else if (this.getField("No. of Entities").value <= '100') {
    event.value = 175
    } else if (this.getField("No. of Entities").value >= '101') {
    event.value = 150
    } else {
    event.value = 0 // Default value here
    or something along those lines.  I would also imagine that having the operators be numeric (no quotes on the constant) would be more effective.
    But this is general JS advice and not tried within a form.
    Also, I have a question for you.  Are you designing this as an PDF form inside Acrobat, or are you using LiveCycle Designer?  That information will help when we move this issue into the proper forum.

  • How do you create the equivalent of a named  range in Numbers for iPad?

    At first I didn't think Numbers could handle named ranges but when I look at the formula written for the "Personal Budget Template"  The "Actuals" column is calculating using named ranges but I am not sure how the ranges were created...  In any case it does appear that there is a way.  Does anyone know how?

    Those technically are not named ranges. Its using the information in the "header" rows. Once you make a row a header row and sum it (or include the whole colun in some function). It will use the data/name in the header row in the equation to make it clearer. I do not think you can make named ranges in Numbers.
    I made a test excel workbook using two formulas to sum a range, one with named ranges one without and sent to my ipad, when i opened it up...and downloading... yep...  it converted the named range to a regular range with letters and numbers. no named ranges support.
    But learn to use your header and footer rows to get the same affect in many functions.
    When i assign both header rows and columns to a table, it combines them into one string to show "Jan 2001" when I had a header column with Jan in A2, and a header row with "2001" in B1, then used the value in an equation.
    The one your looking at I think says something like "=Sum(actuals)". that formula is in a designated footer row, and has a designated header row. at the top of that column is the label "actual". if you look at the difference column formulas, you will see how it combined header rows and columns into a single text string and use it to cross reference the cell being used.

  • IDCS6 - How do I create tables with large whole numbers and small fractions?

    I have a lot of engineering data, dimensions, etc, to enter into an existing IDCS6 Table. I need whole numbers to display full size, but fractions to be small size. I know I can use Open Type and select the Fractions option for each individual fraction, but that would take forever and give me a roaring headache.
    How do I create a style (or whatever) that will allow me to just type in the numbers and have them automatically apply small formatting to the fraction portion of the number whenever it sees a "/"?
    Along a similar line, I was trying to copy table data from a PDF document from Acrobat X Pro and paste that into an IDCS6 table, so each cell is populated by the appropriate cell data from the PDF file, but didn't have any success. That would really save me a lot of time, because I have many complete tables in PDF format. The data is not protected in the PDF, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to bring it over to IDCS6.
    On a Mac, OSX 10.8.5.
    Thanks,
    Lou

    There are a number of ways to do it, but I make fractions using Dan Rodney's excellent (and free) Proper Fraction script. After it's installed; assign it a keyboard shortcut. Then type your numerator/denominator, select it, and invoke the script. With just a couple keystrokes, you've got a perfectly formatted fraction.
    As for the PDF tables, I'd try exporting the host file to RTF and copy/pasting from there. In case you're unaware, to paste values into InDesign table cells, the number of (pre-existing), cells/rows/columns in InDesign must match those copied (from) exactly, and must be pre-selected when the Paste command is executed. So...
    1. Set up empty destination table in InDesign which matches the source structure.
    2. Select source cells and Copy.
    3. In Indesign, select exact same (x, y, qty), range of destination cells and Paste.

  • Which formula(a) do I use to select any value that is than 0 but 7 out of a range of cells and sum them.

    I'm working on a sheet that I want to use to select a specific part based on values created by the sum of values in other cells. I am down to the point where I need to select a low range of numbers
    If the sum of cell D5 equals any sum between 1-15 will equal = part 1
    If the sum of cell D5 equals any sum between 16-23 will equal = part 2 ,
    If the sum of cell D5 equal antsy sum between 24-32 will equal part 3.
    I'm at a loss how to make one formula or combination of formulas do this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Big Al Hur

    Hi Al,
    The confusion arises from your having asked two separate questions, one in the subject line, the other in the body of your initial post.
    1.
    How do I sum only the values greater than zero and less than 7 in a range of cells?
    This formula supplied by SGIII does what you have asked there:
    =SUMIFS(A,A,">0",A,"<7")
    The syntax is:
    SUMIFS(sum-values, test-values, condition, test-values, condition…)
    sum-values ( A ) is the range of cells containing the values to be summed (all the body cells in column A)
    test-values and condition come in pairs. the first names the range of values to be tested, the second names the condition that must be met.
    In this formula, the test-values in each pair are the same as the sum values.
    condition ( ">0" ) is the first condition that must be met by these values. (greater than zero)
    the second condition ( "<7" ) is the second condition that must be met (less than seven)
    To be included in the sum, a value in the list must meet both conditions: It must be greater than 0 AND less than 7. IN SG's example, there are two values that meet both conditions, 2 in A2 and 6 in A5, that meet both conditions. Their sum, 8, is shown in A10, whch is the cell containing the formula.
    2
    If the sum of cell D5 equals any sum between 1-15 will equal = part 1
    If the sum of cell D5 equals any sum between 16-23 will equal = part 2 ,
    If the sum of cell D5 equals any sum between 24-32 will equal part 3.
    This formula supplied by SGIII, and the Lookup table that goes with it, does what you have asked here.
    =VLOOKUP(D5,Lookup::A:B,2,close-match)
    Close-match means 'the largest value that is less than or equal to' the search-value.
    The search-value is the value in D5
    VLOOKUP searches in the leftmost column (A) of the lookup table (columns A and B of the table named Lookup).
    With "close-match" specified:
    any value that is equal to or greater than 0 and less than 16 will be matched by the 0 in A2. VLOOKUP will return the value in the same row of column 2 (B) of the table: "Part 1"
    any value that is equal to or greater than 16 and less than 24 will be matched by the 16 in A3. VLOOKUP will return the value in the same row of column 2 (B) of the table: "Part 2"
    any value that is equal to or greater than 24 will be matched by the 24 in A4. VLOOKUP will return the value in the same row of column 2 (B) of the table: "Part 3"
    While this is not an exact match with your description above, it will perform exactly as you requested IF the value in D5 is never less than 1 and never greater than 32.
    If the possible range is greater than that, I would suggest the changes shown below to the formula and to the lookup table. The column containing numbers is column D, and represents values in D5. Column E shows the result for each value using the given formula and lookup table (LU A). Column F shows results for the same values using the revised formula and lookup tble (LU B):
    Original                              =VLOOKUP(D,LU A :: A:B,2,1)
    Revised formula: =IFERROR(VLOOKUP(D,LU B :: A:B,2,1),"N//A")
    In the revision, IFERROR takes care of the negative values in D2 and D3. The zero value in D4 and in the last row of column D and the overflow values (greater than 32) are handled by the revisions to the lookup table.

  • Lync 2010 - Using DID numbers and extensions that do not correlate

    Hi everyone,
    I have a situation that I believe is unique and am trying to find a good way to deal with it. I am hoping that someone out there may have a different view on how we might achieve the goal of using our existing collection of extensions and DID numbers. Here
    are the implementation details...
    - Around 200 locations that each have a gateway for local PSTN in and out calling
    - One Enterprise Pool running Lync 2010 to service all locations
    - 90%+ sites have DID numbers, however the DID numbers are not in complete blocks. There are skips in the numbers.
    - Extension ranges are unique per location and have been in place for years
    - DID numbers and extensions do not have any common parts... ie tel:+13275551212;ext=78943
    The challenge is that we are moving the locations over into the Lync 2010 environment from a Cisco deployment and in planning out the steps, it appears that we would need to create a unique normalization rule per number that is similar to the example above.
    Because the locations span different area codes that have the ability to dial 7 digit and 10 digit numbers is not consistent, we would need to have multiple dial plans. If we need different dial plans and unique normalization rules per extension
    number, we would need to ensure that the all of the extension numbers normalize across the dial plans requiring that we include the unique extension normalization rules in each dial plan. (wow I sure hope you can follow this) So 200 locations with 20
    norm rules each will add up quickly.
    The real solution I have come up with is to migrate to Lync 2013 but this is not an option until next year. We also need to send out the correct unique CLID for the users who have a DID.
    Here are the other possible solutions I have came up with each have a draw back.
    - No unique CLID for outbound calls
    - One Dialplan and everyone dials 10 digits externally
    - Gateway adjusts a "common" base number based on extension to a unique CLID. This may not be able to be done on the existing gateways.
    - An additional gateway that can adjust the outgoing CLID is put in to make changes to all CLID's based on extension.
    - Create a unique normalization rule for each number set and assign that normalization rule to every other dial plan. - The long road that I think may have performance issues
    due to the size of the normalization rules needed.
    I really appreciate any thoughts or ideas on this one.
    Cheers,
    Ken Braley Voice Data Systems

    Hi,
    As you said, you can only use one dial plan and everyone dials 10 digits externally, however,
    if your organization maintains a single dial plan across multiple locations, you may still need to create a separate dial plan for Enterprise Voice users who are migrating from a private branch exchange (PBX) and who need to have their existing
    extensions retained.
    If you want to keep the DID numbers like before, I think you may need to create a separate dial plan for every users.

  • Print Row Numbers and Column Letters

    How do you tell Numbers to print the Row numbers and Column letters? This was very simple in Appleworks (print dialog box had that option). Can't find it in Numbers though.

    Here is a script doing all the job for us.
    Just select one or several cells in a table and run the script.
    It duplicates it, add an header row, an header column, insert the needed labels and fill the other cells with a formula grabbing the contents of the original table.

    Il vous faudra peut-être créer le dossier Numbers et peut-être même le dossier Applications.
    Selectionner une cellule dans la table à dupliquer
    menu Scripts > Numbers > build a table with headers
    Le script duplique la table et crée des en-têtes de lignes et colonnes.
    --=====
    L'aide du Finder explique:
    L'Utilitaire AppleScript permet d'activer le Menu des scripts :
    Ouvrez l'Utilitaire AppleScript situé dans le dossier Applications/AppleScript.
    Cochez la case "Afficher le menu des scripts dans la barre de menus".
    +++++++
    Save the script as Script: build a table with headers.scpt
    Move the newly created file into the folder:
    <startup Volume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Numbers:
    Maybe you would have to create the folder Numbers and even the folder Applications by yourself.
    Select a range of cells in the table to 'duplicate'
    menu Scripts > Numbers > build a table with headers
    The script duplicate the table and inserts columns/rows headers.
    --=====
    The Finder's Help explains:
    To make the Script menu appear:
    Open the AppleScript utility located in Applications/AppleScript.
    Select the "Show Script Menu in menu bar" checkbox.

  • Hunt Pilot - range of numbers

                      HI,
    I have a simple question.
    I'm using call manager version 8.6. I have configured hunt pilot as range of numbers instead of specific number.
    eg: 898949X
    it wil work properly right. I want to confirm.
    I tested it is working fine.

    Yes, it is allowed to use special characters in Hunt Pilots and documented:-
