Can not start up on my Macbook pro. All I get is a grey spinning wheel. Tried all the Startup key combinations and nothing works. I reset the NVRAM and nothing. I booted with start up disk , ran disk repair and all is ok. Tried to re-install OS but when I get to designating drive its blank. When I go to startup disk there is a "?" mark. When I restart under startup disk search for a drive it still comes up with nothing. Before I got the grey spinning wheel I had a locked screen. Could not move curser or click on anything. Shouldn't still have a 'beachballing'... if the drive is being found and the system is trying to boot from it but is having problems, I would suggest looking over ds store's user tip - Step by step to fix your Mac.
It's likely either something corrupt in your system files or a failing hard drive. But follow ds's steps until you find the cause of the problem.

After recent upgrade to Yosemite on Macbook air bluetooth audio cuts out and associated video stops with audio. Likewise with airplay and Apple TV. I have deleted all my saved wifi connections and restarted numerous times. I do not expect a resolution from the community, but hope to get the attention of Apple engineers. If you are having same problems or have a miracle cure I am all ears.
May start my own thread, but I'm having similar issues.
I've been using an old iMac (running 10.7.5) and Apple TV for years with no issues. Last week I bought a new Macbook Pro running Yosemite and have had audio issues multiple times. The weird thing is that sometimes it works flawlessly, other times (like now) I spend half an hour just trying to get a song to play.
My issues are: When I got to "computers" in Apple TV to stream my music, my music is sometimes chopper or intermittent, and I seen to know when it's going to happen based on the status wheel just before it plays. When I choose a song, the status wheel will spin for an unusually long time, usually an indicator that the audio is either not going to work, or stutter.
When it does finally pull up a song, the playhead sits at the beginning of the song for a good 3-5 seconds before actually playing. Then, when it starts playing, it's all downhill. It will play a few seconds, drop out, play a few more seconds, drop out, and then ultimately the playhead will keep moving across the song as if it's playing, but there's no audio.
Again, this is a new phenomenon never experienced by me. I've tried everything I could think of, some of them all at once:
• restart Apple TV
• restart Macbook Pro
• quite iTunes/open
• turn off Home Sharing on iTunes then reconnect it
• unplugging and cycling both my modem and router
None of these have alleviated the problem.
The odd thing is, like this morning, the audio started up perfectly and never gave me any issues. It wasn't until later in the day that it started. Perhaps after the macbook pro had been put to sleep? Not sure.
Regardless, this is an annoying trait, one that's new to me and my system (as stated, worked flawlessly until my new purchase), and is 100% limited to either a) the macbook pro b) Yosemite or c) both of them. -
I bought a used macbook air, it didn't come with the flash drive to do a factory reset. Can I download the info needed and save it to my own flash drive and then do a factory reset? If not what can I do?

i have Macbook Air. One day i am using email-Entrouage, sudden it stuck up. I stopped it and start entourage again but it start verify and and rebuild but not rebuilt. email are 41.5 GB and free 5 GB. When problem not resolved i also copied that email db file in other Mac book with 200 GB free space but same process first verify then rebuild then message it cannot rebuild. Please guide.

MacBook Pro 8,1 – Intel Core i5 – 2.23 GHz (early 2011) New with OSX 10.6 – current on all updates.
I successfully installed rEFit. I used Boot Camp to install Win 7. All was great.
Then installed debian 6. Somehow after the debian install and restart (I know this sounds crazy) but I am now reduced to Win 7 only. rEFit is not present when rebooting nor is OSX or debian. Further, I am unable to force the install DVD to launch when rebooting, by holding C, D or F8. The Option key brings me to the grey screen with a padlock. I have attempted the root and local pw- no go. Restart holding D takes me to the windows boot manager. I have attempted several options within the Advanced Options; including – Repair Your computer, safe mode and “last known good config,” All of which did nothing.
I can see all my OSX files within win7. I tried to install the OSX within windows. Ya right, that did nothing..
I only desire to get back to OSX...
What are my options??Yes, you royally hosed up your machine.
You should first try to get your files off, any way you can to a external drive.
Your going to need to hold c and boot from the disk that came with your computer and a couple of screens in under the menu is a option for Disk Utility.
Select your drive and Erase with Security Option Zero, format the drive HFS+ Journaled and when that's finished (about a hour or so) then quit and install OS X from the installer.
I hope this works, but I suspect it won't. Others have hosed their machines trying to use a Linux disk without proper partition formatting too.
Another option might be to use another Mac to c boot off the Snow Leopard disk and install OS X onto a external drive, take that to the problem Mac and try holding option and booting off of it to erase your internal drive.
You could replace the drive.

I had a repair done on my MacBook Pro and had to have a new hard drive installed. The Apple Auth Repair Shop then updated the OS from 10.6.8 to 10.7.5. Now my iPhoto v 9.2.3 will not open and it sounds like it will not work with this OS. Can you please advise?
You may need many other updates to retain compatibility with Lion. I suggest you reinstall Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, you will need to erase the drive first. Be sure to backup your data if you haven't done so already.
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X. You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
installation current.

I've had **** with my iMac, the hard-drive failed so i replaced it with a new 1TB Samsung drive. Then when i tried to install SL from the install disk, all went to plan until it asked me which drive i wanted to install it on, where it came up with a box where my options should have been, but instead it didn't give me any options to install it on any drive i.e. it asked which drive i wanted to install it on but no drives came up to select.
So i followed the advice from another forum, look at the 'Extended Hard-drive preparation' response

After following these instructions i have now got a new partition, but when i restarted my computer to install SL on the drive, the option to boot from the drive is now not available, now i must boot from the install disk, whereas before i was able to boot from either the install disk or the hard drive. The hard drive is still visible in disk utility as it always has been, but i am now unable to boot from it, let alone install SL.
Please help my iMac has been broken for months and i've been trying to fix it for so long and am getting problem after problem. Thank you!

That off the shelf MS-DOS / FAT-32 drive needs to re-partitioned GUID Partition Table / Mac OS Extended (Journaled) before you can install OS X and Startup your Intel iMac from it.
1. Boot from your original install or retail SL DVD and open Disk Utility.
2. Highlight the new HD in the list of drives and select the Partition tab.
3. Under Volume Scheme select 1 Partition and click on the Options... button.
4. Select GUID Partition Table in the drop down window and click OK.
5. Set the Format to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and click the Apply button.
6. Once thats done, then you can do a clean SL Install, Restore from TM , your old HD or Bootable Clone.

I have a problem with my wi-fi cant get to work, I will pick a server then they ask for a password, to my knowledge this has never been asked in the past/ This happened with I installed OS7. A friend in CA was able to connect but when I returned to AZ I have not been able to setup the Wi-FI.

Hi. When you were in the recovery drive doing permissions, did you try and run a repair of the boot drive? Did you try single user mode? Try these first and then go back and try to reinstall the operating system.When I say repair boot drive I don't mean permissions. There are both options in disk utilities.When you open disk utilities ,you will see in the left column two drives plus possibly a boot partition that look like an external driv. click on the second drive and in first aid use repair disk. I have removed FF4 twice & and reloaded. Norton goes ballistic about containerplugin.exe. IT takes 4 minutes for a window to load, and NO request will be honored until the window is totally loaded. Is FF4 BETA?? Can I get my older version back? Please help. I have songs on my iPhone 6 that I can't remove and when I plug into iTunes and go to "Summary" and "On This Device" the songs don't show up but they are on my phone. How do I remove them? Not even sure how they got on actually since I have a iTouch and keep all my music there. HELP!!
Have you tried deleting the songs from Settings?
Settings -> General -> Usage -> Manage Storage (not the iCloud link!) -> Music and then click Edit to enable you to be able to delete. -
I just got a new macbook pro. How do I get the 900+ songs that I took off of cds into iTunes on my computer from my iPhone. I had no problems syncing the music I had purchased from iTunes. I have tried to sync it using iTunes match, this did not work. I would like to have access to my full library without going into the user profile of my old computer, which is on my new computers hard drive. I would like to eventually delete the old profile so that I have more space on my hard drive.

When I try to sync my iPod with iTunes I can't because it says it's over capacity. It's not. It's a 16 GB iPod, it's only 105 songs on there. No movies or pictures or such. Anybody got a word of advise? I've tried resetting the iPod but get the message that it's not possible cause i'm not connected to internet. I am though. Tried managing music manually. I've tried all the usual stuff.
