Point VS 2013 at Windows 8.1 SDK

Somehow (possibly because I have installed 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2013 visual studios in a funny order) my VS 2013 is pointing at the wrong SDK directory (7.0 instead of 8.1).
I've tried installing the standalone 8.1 SDK and searching for the WindowsSdkVer.exe to select it but with no luck. Various registry key and environment suggestions I've seen don't work either.
I've done some extensive Googling and searching on this forum and found nothing useful so far... any help would be greatly appreciated.

Visual Studio 2013 includes the Windows SDK 8.1. If you installed Visual Studio 2013, you should be able to find the windows SDK 8.1 at C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1 or C:\Program Files\Windows Kits\8.1.To ensure that the Windows SDK 8.1 was properly
installed, make sure that the information in the following table matches the directory structure on the installation machine.
For a 32-bit OS: C:\Program Files\Windows Kits\8.1
For a 64-bit OS: C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1

Windows Server is Windows, but the Server OS. SharePoint runs on top of supported Windows Servers editions (see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262485.aspx).
SharePoint Server is 64-bit only (trial:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/hh973397.aspx), although Designer does have a 32-bit edition (full product:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35491).
You will need the capability to run 64bit VMs. Minimum recommended all-in-one VM for SharePoint is to allocate 24GB of RAM, but you can get away with as little as 12GB (I wouldn't go below that). Because of this, it generally rules out 32bit OSes as a virtual
machine host.

Correct way to install SHARE POINT 2013 ON WINDOWS 2012 R2

INSTALLING SHAREPOINT 2013 ON WINDOWS 2012 R2 IS NOT SUPPORTED , when i search for this i found a kb article

So in windows server 2012 R2 machine i should install
1) install sharepoint pre requisites
2) run sharepoint setup and install binraries
3)and after download sharepoint 2013 SP1 and install
is the right steps will i do for INSTALLING SHAREPOINT 2013 ON WINDOWS 2012 R2?

Get the SharePoint 2013 w/ SP1 ISO from the MSDN or VLSC (or Download Center if using SharePoint Foundation 2013) -- this is required for Windows Server 2012 R2, other media will not work. Follow the standard SharePoint install process, e.g. run the pre-req
installer, and then install SharePoint.
Once completed, install the appropriate version of SP1 for your product. See http://thesharepointfarm.com/2015/04/list-of-good-sharepoint-2013-service-pack-1-packages/
for a list of packages.

Office 2013 on Windows Thin PC

I am having an issue with Office 2013 on Windows Thin PC. It opens up just fine but after going into the Save As menu, if I click on any of the buttons to open the directory window (such as Browse) it crashes the application and points to kernelbase.dll
(which doesn't really help a lot). It works fine on Windows 7 Pro but Windows 7 Thin PC seems to have compatibility issues. It is consistent across all of the Office apps and all of our Thin PC machines. In my experience, this means that either there is some
feature missing from the Thin PC image that I need to roll out or I'm simply out of luck and will need to potentially deploy it as a virtual app to get it to work. I was wondering if any of the Office 2013 experts knew of any core component that could be missing
from the Thin PC image or if anyone has experience with this issue.

As you may have already known, the Office application crash error related to "KERNELBASE.dll" may occurs due to lots of reasons. I'm afraid it's hard for us to know which specific "feature" or "core component" is missing
here, especially when it's installed on a non-supported operation system.
Windows Thin PC is not a supported Windows operating systems on which you can run Office 2013 program. It is specifically designed to be used as a thin client OS. It uses lower CPU cycles, with local application execution typically restricted to security
and management.
So you cannot run any productivity applications, such as Microsoft Office or similar applications on it. If you do so, you might have unexpected issues.

Problem installing sharepoint foundation 2013 on windows server 2008 r2

anybody has experience installing sharepoint 2013 on windows server 2008 r2? I failed to install it even if I have all the latest patches installed and the sql server 2012 express installed. it keeps failing to install the prerequisites.

Set up Search Service App For SharePoint server 2013 on Windows server 2012 R2 not working

Hi all,
I installed SharePoint server 2013 on Windows server 2012 R2 using VirtualBox. I created a DC(domain controller) server with a domain set up on one VM and it has SQL server 2012 SP1 installed. Then SharePoint 2013 on another VM was set up to access
the DC server. Everything seems working except Search Service App which cannot be sucessfully set up. Creation process for Search service app says Successful and 4 search databases were created and look fine. But when I navigate to search service app
admin page, it gives error info:
System status: The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration component '386f2cd6-47ca-4b3a-aeb5-d9116772ef16' in search application 'Search Service Application 1' is in
a good state and try again.
Search Application Topology: Unable to retrieve topology component health states. This may be because the admin component is not up and running.
From event viewer, I see following errors:

Since separate DC server and SharePoint server do not work, I installed SharePoint 2013 on DC server ( so DC server has everything on it now ) but it gives exactly same result. Later I installed SharePoint 2013 SP1 and still have the same problem with Search
Service app. I spent two weeks tried all suggestions available from Web and Google but SharePoint Search Service simply does not work. Config and other databases work but why Search Service has this issue seemingly related to search DB.
Could anybody please help out? You deserve a top SharePoint consultant award if you could find a solution. I am so frustrated and so tired by this issue.    This seems also to be a SP set up issue.

Using new Search Service App wizard to create SSA is always a success. I could delete existing SSA and recreate it and no problem. It says successful but when I open Search Admin page from CA, it gives me errors as mentioned.
Now I used the following PS script for creating SSA from Max Mercher, but it stays at the last setps in following script:

Account mydomain\admin is an farm managed account, domain admin account, in WG_ADMIN role, It is in all SQL server roles and is DBO. I see search DBs are already on SQL server. From Event viewer, I got following errors in sequence:

No. You can't. Windows 8 is not supported by default.
You will need a server OS to install SharePoint foundation 2013.
You can run a Hyper-V virtual machine on windows 8 though. And can install SharePoint on that. This does require more resources.

Install sharepoint 2013 on Windows server 2012, Microsoft Identity Extensions issue !!!!!!!!!

Sharepoint 2013 comes with prerequisitesinstaller.exe to install the software required for the actual Sharepoint installation.
I 've installed Windows server 2012 in the R2 edition as well as Standard edition, but installing the prerequisites ends with an issue for the Microsoft Identity Extensions (MIE) on both versions (screenshot).
The 2012 R2 server has been updated with all latest files by executing Windows update.
In case of the Server 2012 R2, MIE is already installed , but somehow the Sharepoint installation is missing something.
I al;so tried removing default install to let prerequisiteinstaller.exe to install it's own version, but that did not help.
When I skip the prerequisites remaining items, the Sharepoint installation stops directly , requesting the missing items.
I've tried several Sharepoint server installation files, including the 180 days free version.

Installing SharePoint Server 2013 on a computer that is running Windows Server 2012 R2 could lead to unexpected behavior, therefore, Microsoft does not support SharePoint Server 2013 in Windows Server 2012 R2.
SharePoint Server 2013 with Service Pack 1 and SharePoint Foundation 2013 with Service Pack 1 will offer support for Windows Server 2012 R2.

Not able to inistall Sharepoint 2013 on windows server 2012 r2

Hi ,
I am trying to install Sharepoint enterprise 2013 on windows 2012 r2. In very early stage i got issue when i ran prerequisite installer.
As we all know in this case we need to install prerequisite manually. I downloaded all the prerequisite and installed them manually. I have enabled all web and application role. then followed below link and installed all the prerequisite

According to your description, my understanding is that you got an error when you ran prerequisite installer.
Please make sure the Windows Server Features and Role services are enabled in your SharePoint server.
Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Server Manager->Add Roles and Features:
i. Application Server
ii. File Services
iii. Web Server (IIS)

Installing Exchange 2013 on Windows Server 2012 R2

Now that SP1 has been released, it is supported to run Exchange 2013 on Windows Server 2012 R2
But since it is not yet possible to download Exchange 2013 with integrated SP1 (slipstreamed), is the following installation procedure supported:
- Install Exchange 2013 (without SP1) on Windows Server 2012 R2
- Install SP1 on top of Exchange 2013
If this is not supported, can someone tell me when the Exchange 2013 with integrated SP1 (slipstreamed) download will be released?

Can we install Project Server 2013 on Windows Server 2012 R2? Is it supported? I searched a bit but couldn't find any concrete information if it is supported or not.

Did you mean change the Lync: Change the Default Font and Color of Instant Messages just as Edwin said above?
If not, as I know, there is no natural way to change it.
If yes, on the latest version of Lync 2013 client, there is a new option “IM” on Lync client “Options” list. And you need to change the default Font and Color of IM in the interface of “IM”.

Is also possible to develop and deploy modern ui app with Visual Studio 2012 on Server 2012?

Yes you can :)
Follow the following steps and I hope you can.
1-First of all install hyper-v role from server manager.
2-Install Windows Phone SDK 8.0 from official Microsoft Web.
3-Update Visual Studio Express 2012(Update 4) for Windows Phone. Search it on Bing you will get the update.
That's it. Now you should be able to run it properly even if you are on NON-SLAT machine you can run the Emulator without any problem.

What is the point of the download window if you use stacks?

One of the most annoying things about the download window was the fact that the window always hung around after completing dowloads in Tiger when using safari. To me, that was just a time waster of always pressing Apple+W to close that window.
When Leopard was released, I was excited to realize that one function of the download stack was to recevie downloads from safari after completed. However, after completion, the download window still sticks around and I still have to close it... then navigate to my stack of downloads to mount the image. What is the point of the download window is I use stacks now? Why can't the window disappear after completion?

Aaargh!! Me too - it's so annoying! Firefox has a downloads window as well - I just don't see the point of it. I didn't like it in Tiger either.
As a way to see the progress of downloads, it's fine, but it should at least close when all the downloads are finished, and completed downloads should not display.
Ideally it should look & work exactly like the Copy window in Finder - the one that comes up when you are copying or moving a large file or number of files from one folder to another.
Is there a hack that will make it work like that?
