POP Mail Password being "rejected"

I've Got Mail (1.3.11) going out to yahoo.com to pick up my mail from the POP server. It's set to check for mail every minute. Suddenly I keep getting a note that "the POP server 'pop.mail.yahoo.com' rejected the password for user 'petermbooth' Please re-enter your password or cancel." Then at the bottom of the window is a checkbox which says "Remember this password in my keychain." I check this and... The same thing happnens again within a few minutes.
Any ideas WHY this is happening? Yahoo IS accepting the password, because when I enter the password, it goes out and collects the mail. It's a couple minutes before the note comes back.
Ideas? This is very frustrating!

this started happening with me about a week or two ago as well. i am running OS 10.4.4, the mail version i have is 2.05. this only happens with my yahoo email account. i also a google and .mac, which retrieves email just fine. i have tried deleting the account from the mail app and re-entering the account. that worked fine for about 20 minutes, then it started happening again. i have also tried deleting the keychain access for the password and selecting 'save to keychain' when you enter the password in mail, but again that didn't change anything.
all the problems started after i updated my computer, via software update, on jan. 11th. i updated quicktime to 7.0.4, itunes to 6.0.2, powerbook aluminum battery to 1.0, and OS X to 10.4.4. personally, i think there is something wrong with the 10.4.4 update. hopefully it will get taken care of soon.

  • E-mail password being rejected after cancelling MobileMe

Hello there & thanks for your help,
A few weeks ago I cancelled MobileMe & since then I have had difficulties logging on to my e-mail account, taking a couple of goes. Now I am completely locked out as my password is not being recognised. I have deleted the account (after saving e-mails) but now cannot re-create the account because of the same problem. My AppleID & info except my usual password but not my e-mail. What to do??

Great news, thanks for the Star!
Might consider a free gMail account, IMAP if you like...

  • I keep being asked for my pop.mail password for my user address. Can you help please.

I keep being asked for my pop.mail password and I do not know what is meant. Can you help. I cannot receive or send messages on thunderbird. You say you have sent a reset message to me but it has not come through. I am searching messages on my ipad. I am on the verge of abandoning Thunderbird and continuing to use my ipad and yahoo account. Thank you for your help in advance.

Thunderbird has nothing to do with administering your email password and is not going to send you anything. I am not even sure where you requested that something be sent to you unless it is for the password to this forum which has nothing to do with your email.
Your email provider would have a link to reset your password on their email help page.
I would go to your providers web mail page and see if your username and password work thee. if they do then you might have incorrect server settings causing the password error.

  • My iCloud mail is being rejected due to the sending MTA's poor reputation.

My iCloud mail is being rejected "due to the sending MTA's poor reputation". How can this be corrected? Thank you

this started to happen to me yesterday: infuriating! I suppose Apple is aware of this and working on it.........perhaps!

  • POP mail not being deleted from server

I am brand new to the MAC world, I just got my first MAC Book Pro Sunday (switching from a PC). I was successful in setting up Mail to connect to my POP mail account (comcast) and everything so far look great, but when I delete an email and remove it from the trash it does not remove the email from the comcast server. I hope this is just something I am missing in the config being a new user and not knowing what I am doing, I do not want to have to log in to my comcast and delete my email twice.
    Thank you in advance,
    Corey

Under the advanced tab I have the following options
    Checked:
    Enable this account
Include when automatically checking for new mail
    Unchecked:
Remove copy from server after retrieving a message (I did not check this because I still want to keep my mail on the server except when I delete a message then I want it deleted on the server)
    Thank you for your reply,
    Corey

  • Email password being rejected using Mac mail

I have a strange issue using mac mail on a mac mini running snow leopard. It is actually my Mom's computer. She calls me over from time to time when her email gives her problems. Usually it amounts to resetting the modem or some other simple fix. Today however not so easy!
This issue came up out of the blue earlier this week. A message came from mail asking her to re-enter her password since the server (charter.net) was rejecting it. She attempted to re-enter it along with a variety of other addresses she had written down and eventually gave up. In this process she also restarted her modem. Today is Friday so it's been a few days with no connection to her email server. This is all her recounting so I am not certain exactly what transpired.
I confirmed a conection with the internet first. re-entered the correct password and got the same message. Then I tried the Username & password via a web interface and got in first try. So I started up an old email client (Entourage) that had been set up from years ago (as a POP account) and it to accessed the server with no problem. At that point I deleted the account in mac mail & recreated it...same message. I then reset the keycahin and deleted/recreated the account again...same message. To rule out POP vs IMAP I tried creating a POP account in mac mail since the original was IMAP....same message. I am at a loss.
For now I reintroduced her to Entourage so she could access her mail. It was abbandoned a couple of years ago since it had been the source of too much confusion for her (she tends to click on things changing views etc without realizing how or what she has done).
Until this, the simplicity of mac mail was working pretty well for her.
Any ideas of what the cause might be or what else I could try would be appreciated.

I installed iCloud on the iPad
K, that wasn't clear in your original posting.  You left that part out.
Are you saying this would be fixed if I upgraded to Mountain Lion?
That is not what I said.  What I should have said is that the OS requirements for iCloud are Lion & Mountain Lion.
The following are keychain troubleshooting that you may wish to try: Use Spotlight to search for a file called login.keychain.
Users/YourUserName/Library(which is a hidden folder and won't show in Finder)/Keychains.
Click Go in the menu bar then Go to Folder and type in /Users/YourUserName/Library and hit the enter key. Look down the list of folder and find Keychains. The "login.keychain" file should be inside.

  • Problems with pop mail password with iPhone

I have recently purchased an iPhone and after configuring my email POP account using iTunes to do so on my iPhone, I have begun getting a password request for my incoming mail on my macbook. It seems there is a conflict and continues to ask for it sometimes 10 or 15 time in a row without being able to connect to my email on my mac. What should I do?

POP3 accounts aren't really designed for being accessed from multiple devices at the same time. Some POP3 email providers lock the account while another device is accessing it, which may be why your Mac is asking for the password.
Set the account up as IMAP on both the Mac and iPhone and it should work fine. You'll also have the added benefit of your email being completely in sync on both devices, so when you read email on the iPhone it is also marked as read on the Mac and vice versa, and sent mail on one device appears in the Sent Mailbox on the other.

  • Mail password suddenly rejected

    Hello,
For reasons unknown, after having my email delivered all morning, I came back from an errand and the Apple mail icon was bouncing. It stated essentially that the server rejected my password and to re-enter the password. That accomplished nothing. For the past 4 hours, I can't get email or send any. I have removed and recreated my account 6 times. I have also reinstalled the Mountain Lion software and all its updates which have taken 2 hrs and 8 minutes to do. I am no closer to getting email than I was this morning. Can someone please clearly direct me to fix this problem that arrived from nowhere. I did not change any settings in the mail preferences before this happened. And, yes, I know my password. And, yes, the mail icon is still bouncing. PS. I can't access mail even on my iPhone.
    Thank you ahead,
    Al Eugene

I agree with arthur, so maybe you should access by browser and see if you can find anything.

  • Mail Password intermitent rejection

This forum has many complaints about this fault.
We have had this problem for many months [10.4.11 and 10.5.4 and in between updates].
We have spoken to our ISP and they have it recorded with many Mac users (no Windows followers) and they believe it is faulty workmanship by Apple. We have three ISP's and they know of the fault. Some computers only connect to one ISP, and we still have a problem.
We have changed keychains, we have looked at timing our issues, cap lock, checked authentications, deleted some preferences and are not going to do a reinstall.
Has anyone been able to "fix" this faulty problem - permanently ???
Has anyone got Steve Wozniak's home phone number......
    Australia......

As disclosed in all the forums now running, this is an Apple Mail fault.
It is not an ISP fault.
We must wait for Apple to fix....

  • POP mail ID/PW Rejection

It's back again for me this morning on my Primary and occassionally on the secondary account on the same server - UK877.   The other two secondaries are ok so far.  I've tried the usual work arounds with no luck.

I haven't been able to access my primary email account all day.  This is the second time it has happened recently.
I'm really going to have to sort out an alternative email solution.  I just can't rely on BT email any more.

  • Mac Mail password rejected by POP server with ATT ISP

Just 2 months ago my ATT mail server keeps rejecting my email password that I use on apple mail as well as gmail. Now I can't use my apple mail application but the same email address with same password will work for web mail by gmail. I spent $ and hours with ATT connectech service without resolution except aggravation from different call centers repeating same old stories.
Problem: every time I use apple mail, it pops a message to re-enter password because my email address/Password is rejected by POP server. Same address/PW work for my gmail account.
I thought I post here before I have to pay Apple for trouble-shooting now that I am done with futile ATT support. I may never get a fix. I even try to migrate to Comcast but it has problem connecting to my house. I am at my wit's end. Thanks for reading.

This issue may have more to do with your mail server rather than your Mac.
I too was afflicted with issue for over a week. I tried many fixes including, keychain repair, deleting my mail prefs and rebuilding my accounts by hand, toggling the interval button, shutting down and unplugging everything including AC power to my Mac. (btw -cancelling the message seemed to make it come back faster)
It was happening about half dozen times a day. Then one day it happened only 3 times, the next day twice, the next day once. Then gone! Fingers X'd it's 3 full weeks now without seeing it.
    There is hope!
EDIT: As Max Miles says multiple computers can cause this. All are valid suggestions and may work in your cases.

  • Apple mail rejects pop account password

suddenly and i think this is the first time it has happened on this account My Freeserve pop mail account needs the password entered.
BUT I entered it and I know it is correct. So why am I being asked for it again and again.
I think I need to do somethng in the keychain but as I can;t remember exactly what I don;t want to mess it up.
I need my mail as awaiting an important message.
    thanks
I will try looking on the web for my message but that does not solve my problem.
    Thanks
    Shirley

strange it is now working. it took three attempts though.

  • E-mail password rejection AGAIN

This wasaproblem a few months ago
    http://community.bt.com/t5/Other-BB-Queries/E-mail-password-rejection/td-p/234061/highlight/true/pag...
    All happening again today.
    I DESPAIR of BTOpenworld

Am also having exactly the same irritating problem as davrh (the original poster).
My configuration is Intel iMac, OS X 10.5.8 & Apple Mail 3.6.
Worked fine for about 3 years, then started rejecting passwords as below:-
The POP server “mail.btinternet.com” rejected the password for user “[email protected]
Please re-enter your password, or cancel.
Problem started about five months ago. I am using 3 BTinternet mail addresses within 2 Apple user accounts on the same iMac - all the BT e-mail addresses have the same problem.
Interestingly, a gmail account operated within the Mail client does not have the problem.
I have increased the time period for the Apple mail client to "check for new mail",  as an attempt reduce the number of pop-ups and relieve the irritation factor.
As passwords are set within in the Mail client account information, this should not be an invalid password issue.
I suspect it may be a timing issue on the BT Mail server side.
I had hoped the issue would be resolved with the new update of BT Yahoo - which is advertised as being 2 x faster.
    But it hasn't!
Really need a fix for this.

  • Mac mail password rejected and rejected and rejected and rejected and rejec

    os 10.3.9
    Mail 1.3.11
    SBCglobal Internet access
I have spent many a wasted hours chatting with a very polite person in India (SBC tech support) about my mail problem only to be assured - more than once - that all my settings are correct and it’s a mac problem.
    So here it is:
My incoming mail server is: pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com
I have my account password stored my mail program/keychain and sometimes mail manages to automatically access and download my email - just like you'd think it would. BUT then all of a sudden it doesn’t, and I get the error from mail:
The POP server “pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com” rejected the password for user “[email protected]
Please re-enter your password, or cancel.
I re-enter - or cancel and wait for the next scheduled auto-check and it happens again and again. Occasionally though it works. If I hit the 'Get Mail' button twice in a row its pretty likely to reject the password at least once.
Any ideas why this should be - or how I could stop it?
    Thanks in advance

  • The Password in Yahoo Mail keeps getting rejected in IMAP server in yahoo . The password is correct had reset it several times in mail preference.

I keep getting my Yahoo mail password rejected. I think it is the server IMAP. I have gone into mail prefference reset it several times. I still get the pop up on Mac pro and I mac computers.

Sounds more like your Yahoo mail account has been hacked. The hacker probably changed your password. Report it to Yahoo.
