Pop up glossary definition upon hover

Is there a way to make glossary definitions appear in a pop-up when the user hovers over them, as opposed to using the standard expanding text format?
I'm using RoboHelp 7 and producing FlashHelp output.

Hi KC
Not really. Not without a LOT of tweaking.
You (and others) should ask for it!

  • White text on a white background when adding glossary definitions

    I inherited an existing IBA file so I'm not sure how the styles were defined (and I've never really played around with custom styles or layouts) but I was hoping it wouldn't matter.  The main color scheme is a dark background and light (white) text.  Similar to the built in template 'contemporary'.
    When I add a glossary term, i have my definitions in a separate (word) document.  I copy/paste from the document into the glossary term area.  When I paste, it's pasting white text.  Background color of the glossary definition window is also white (not sure I can control that).  My definition document is black text.
    When I test the book, the little glossary dialog pops up when I touch/click on a word but again, it's white text on a white background.
    Can I change the background color of the glossary dialog?
    Is there a way to change all my glossary definitions from white text to black text?
    When I create a test book using 'contemporary', which is also white text on a dark background, it does not have this problem.

    As I mentioned, when I used a built in template, like contemporary, it worked too.  The problem only happened with the IBA that I was given.  Perhaps the previous owner of the file had accidentally chosen Format/Advanced/Define Default Glossary Style when they had some white on white displayed and caused all the formatting for the glossary to be the same.  I was able to fix it using that menu path.
    I'm not sure what fixing it in the "source file" means.  I was trying to fix it in the IBA file.  Not sure where else I would have fixed it.

  • Does Captivate 8 have any facility to allow users to see a word definition upon clicking/hovering over text in a Captivate project?

    You can have both clicking and hovering. But you need to add the definition manually for every such word.

    Can anyone point me to something that will help me create
    pop-up word
    definitions like those at

    If not that specifically, than something similar?

    Tip: Look at the sourcecode! (Copy & Paste it into DW if
    you like).
    It is a bit of a mess, but you can find pretty easily how it
    is done...
    I guess the most simple would be to use the <dfn> tag
    for that with a
    title attribut <dfn title="my definition is
    this">term</dfn>. that way
    your definition will show up like a tool tip... and of
    course, you can
    style the dfn itself using css

  • When hovering over a webpage image, the URL associated with the image pops-up at the bottom of the browser. I do not want this information to pop-up every time I hover my cursor over a webpage image. How do I turn this off?

    The pop-up appears at the very bottom left of the Firefox browser. Again, it displays the URL associated with clicking on the image for '''every image''' on the webpage.

    The easiest way is to use the Status-4-Evar add-on. With it you can choose to not display any of the status messages or URL hover previews, or display them in the add-ons bar or location bar instead.

  • Pop up Glossary re-visited

    I have chaged the way my glossary funtions so that I am only
    using 1 frame in the glossary movie. The hyperlinks within the
    glossary just change the sprite member. But how do I tell the
    glossary to pop open to the correct member when the hyperlink is
    clicked from another movie.
    I had my glossary set up with marker for different words.
    Now, as I said it is by member. So I need to get the hyperlink data
    and use it to set the sprite member in the MIAW. The following does
    not do this yet. I need help with the bold line. Thanks.
    on hyperlinkClicked me, data
    aWindow = window().new("glossary")
    aWindow.filename = "glossary"
    tRect = aWindow.sourceRect
    cLoc = _mouse.clickLoc
    tRect = tRect.offset(cLoc[1] - 180, cLoc[2] + 150)
    aWindow.rect = tRect
    aWindow.channel(3).member (data)
    aWindow.open()

    I can't test this right now, but assuming data is simply the
    name of a
    member, try:
    aWindow.sprite(3).member = member(data)

  • Pop-Up Text Box on Hover of Text

    I've been looking for a solution on how to make a box of text pop-out (but not into a seperate window, just to sort of appear) when someone hovers/puts their mouse on a line of text.
    The box would disappear when they move their mouse off the text... or is their a way to make it appear in it's own box if they do actually click on it too?
    I know there is the rollover image function but I can't figure out how to manipulate it to do what I need.
    Thanks in advance!

  • How do I setup pages to autosave documents without a dialogue pop-up box response upon closing pages or computer shutdown?

    On one of my computers, pages auto saves documents when closing the app or shutting down the computer without a save dialogue, however, my new computer which runs the current version of Pages (5.2) on Mavericks always requires a save dialogue response.  How can I setup the new computer to autosave without dialogue box response when closing or during shutdown?
    I don't recall changing any settings on the older version and can't seem to find the option within pages settings of the latest version.

    Start with a new document. Before you add any content, you save it with a regular (even the Untitled) filename. Now add your content and then quit. No dialog.
    If you do not first Save… the document before adding content, Pages attempts to be courteous, and prompts you to save the document and its new content. This has nothing to do with the System Preferences > General setting. It is built into Pages v5(.2), and other than a first paragraph, behavioral change, there is no preference or other setting to suppress this dialog.

  • How to create FrameMaker glossary entries which convert properly to RoboHelp HTML 8?

    I have been having a challenging time creating FrameMaker 9 glossary
    entries which convert properly into RoboHelp HTML 8. Here is the process I'm doing, and perhaps someone call tell me what I'm doing wrong.
    1.) In the FrameMaker document, I highlight a word or phrase which serves as the "glossary term" to be defined.
    2.) I open the Marker dialog box, select the Glossary option, then enter the "glossary definition" for the highlighted "glossary term." I commit the entry.
    3.) In the FrameMaker Book file, I create a new "Index of Markers" (IOM) of "Glossary" type. Upon generation of the IOM, my FrameMaker output is much like a standard index: There are letter delimiters ("A," "B," C," etc.), and under each is the "glossary definition," then a page number where the "glossary term" is.
    4.) Now I go to RoboHelp HTML 8 and update the document there. The glossary displays such that the "glossary term" is the entire paragraph in which the marker had been placed in the FrameMaker source file. The "glossary definition" is displayed properly (the text I placed into the Marker dialog box.
    So, how am I to create auto-generating glossaries? This implies that I need to create a manual glossary whereby the "glossary term" is in a paragraph by itself (much like a printed glossary would look). Furthermore, I would need to add this manual glossary as a file in the FrameMaker Book file for RoboHelp 8 to detect and pull the entries.
    Surely this isn't as how it was designed. I suspect I'm doing something wrong in how I create glossary entries or create the file in the FrameMaker Book file.
    Could someone offer some assistance?
    Thank you very much in advance!
    Most sincerely,
    Sammy Spencer

    It's because you're doing your markers backwards. The text inside your Glossary marker should be the term. The paragraph your marker is inside is the definition.
    I should say, rather, that Robohelp does it backwards, because when I think of glossary terms and definitions, I think there should be a way to highlight a word and provide the definition in the hidden marker, not hide the term inside the marker.
    I am still figuring out how to make a glossary in my Framemaker file that will work with my Robohelp file, and not have Robohelp generate a separate content file for the glossary file. I think I'll get it, though. Eventually.

  • Glossary Markers FM9 to RH7

    I hope I'm posting this in the correct place!
    I am learning FM9 Structured and slowly building new templates/EDD for our large existing company user documentation.  The plan is to use RH to publish it to html, pdf, etc.
    I'm trying to figure out how the glossary markers work in FM9 and how to set them up properly to be imported into RH.  No one in the FM discussion groups seems to be able to help me.  My main confusion is that I can't figure out how to mark something within FM itself.  The way I'm understanding the documentation it goes like this:
    I put my cursor on the term I want to mark (for example: name)
    I open the Marker pod, and select Add New.
    The documentation says that what I type in the Marker Text window becomes what I think of as the term name and the paragraph that the marker is in becomes the definition.
    I click New Marker and voila!
    However, no matter what I try, when I create a List of Markers (glossary), all I get is whatever is in the Marker Text window and the page number. There is no Term - Definition.
    There's one other thing I don't understand - but maybe this will answer itself if I could get the above to work?  My understanding of a glossary is one definition that can be linked to from many places throughout the documentation.  For example: I define Name the first time it is used, and then I can put a "name" marker anywhere else and have a pop-up or link to the name definition.  If the definition has to be in the text at every point that you insert a marker - then what would be the point?
    I feel like I'm going around and around in the documentation and I apparently have some kind of mental block, because it's just not making sense.  I would REALLY appreciate it if someone could explain to me either what the process is or what I'm mis-understanding about what the process actually does.  I've tried to include the relevant info, but if you need anything else from me -please don't hesitate to ask!

    Technical Communication Suite allows you to mark Glossary terms and definitions in FrameMaker source content, import them in RoboHelp and finally publish them to various ouput formats generated through RoboHelp.
    If you are using TCS 2 or TCS 3, here are the steps to achieve it.
    Marking Glossary Term and Defintion in FrameMaker
    ======================================
    1. Place the cursor at the beginning of the paragraph in FM document which is to be marked as Glossary definition
    2. Open the marker Pod (Special->Marker)
    3. Select the Marker Type as "Glossary"
    4. Add the Glosary term as Marker Text
    5. Save the FM document
    Please note that generating "List of Makers" creates a list of marker text with each term linked to paragarph it points to.
    Importing FM content to RoboHelp and publishing it
    =====================================
    1. Create a RoboHelp project
    2. Link/Import the FM document to RoboHelp project
    3. Mark "Convert Glossary" option in Import Wizard or Linked document properties(Edit->Properties) dialog
    4. Finally update/import the content.
    5. The generated glossary(term-definition pairs) can be viewed in Glossary pod by opening the glossary from Project Manager Pod
    6. If you wish to link glossary terms instances with the glossary definition within the content, you may like to use Glossary Hotspot Wizard (Tools->Glossary hotspot wizard).
    7. Finally, the content can be published to various formats from Single Source Layouts pod by choosing the appropriate glossary in the SSL dialog.
    I hope this helpful. Please let me know in case you need any further elaboration of any step.

  • Glossary words in text not linking to Glossary

    In a new book I'm putting together I can't seem to make the glossary words embedded in the text to produce the pop-up window definitions on the Preview version on the iBook. I've done it in prior books but can't make it happen on the new one. Duh... I've forgotten how to enable this. Any help?

    I had just the same problem, when I was logged in with Gernam language selected.
    When I logged in with English, it DID actually work
    So, I created the function in English, saved it, then logged in with German. Now the function title could not be changed, so I deleted the function and created again - now it was found even in German language setting.
    Hope it helps someone

  • Expanding Text Glossary Terms into Popup windows

    I am using RH6 and I have a help project that uses expanding
    text glossary terms throughout all the topics. When the topic is
    printed out, the glossary terms are auto expanded and it disrupts
    the flow of the text.
    My questions are:
    Is there a way to quickly change expanding text glossary
    terms to just popup hyperlink windows?
    If not, how can I find all the expanding text glossary terms
    using the Multi Find and Replace?
    Can they be searched for in a Report?

    There's another way. Enclose your glossary definitions in
    brackets [a means of enclosing text] so that the definition does
    not interrupt the flow.

  • Excel Not Popping Up After Export

    Hi,
    We are using Discoverer Plus 10.1.2.45.46c. When a user exports to a network drive using the File, Export option excel pops up the file upon completion. If the same user exports the same file to their C drive or uses the 'Export to Excel' button on the tool bar excel does not pop up.
    I have tried the solutions from Metalink including 307919.1, 3933814 and 4285568. We are using XP Version 5.1 SP2.

  • How do I create a glossary in RH9 without typing all the terms & defs?

    I have searched all available doc and this is what I've tried:
    Linking to a Word 2010 doc with just the glossary
    Linking to a Word 2010 doc with glossary appended to existing topic
    (For both of the above, I chose "convert glossary" in settings AND used unique Word paragraph styles not used anywhere else in my project--mapped one to glossary term and one to glossary definition.)
    What I got:
    In both cases, the glossary came through as a topic (or added to the existing topic when appended), but what am I failing to do to get the glossary to be recognized as a glossary?
    P.S. I hand entered one term and it generates just fine. However, in any of the settings locations where there's a choice to "Add to existing glossary" or "Create new," I notice that the "add" feature is grayed out.  Is this a clue...or a random, unrelated issue?

    In Linking if you want to convert glossary then only option available is to create a new associated glossary for each Linked Word Document. "Add to existing glossary" option is available only for import workflow and not for Linking.
    Since, you have already selected the option "Convert Glossary", you must have given a glossary name say "MyWordGlossary". So, are you sure your glossary items are not coming in this newly created glossary "MyWordGlossary", you can open this glossary from "Project Manager" Pod.
    Also, please note that when a GlossaryTerm style is followed by a GlossaryDefinition style paragraph then only a new Glossary item is created in RoboHelp. So, your glossary term and definition should be in pair in the word document to get converted properly in RoboHelp.
    NOTE: Your Glossary will not get created in (Default) Glossary but in "MyWordGlossary".

  • How would I achieve a "magnify" image effect on an image that is only visible on "hover"

    I have come to understand that Adobe Edge Animate can now load external javascript script into projects. So I would like to use this feature to load a "maginfy/zoom" effect onto an image that will be revealed once a button is clicked on. To clarify the process  I had in mind would go something like this:
    1. There is a map the user can view
    2. When a user hovers thier mouse over sections of the map a "callout box" would appear
    3. Inside that "callout box" would be further information about that particular section as well as an image
    4. When the user hovers over that image, it would magnify similar to this: http://www.elevateweb.co.uk/image-zoom/examples (see the "inner zoom" example)
    I've tried loading the elevatezoom.js script into a project, but I don't quite understand how I would apply this effect to a "hidden" image. Most effects like this rely on external css styles, as well as specific "ID" names in order to call the function. Once the project is saved and published, when I try to view the HTML to add those "ID" names my images are not viewable.
    Would someone mind helping me with this? I'd be most grateful.

    I actually found a solution just as I was checking your replies. Thank you so much for the help though. I ended up getting zoom.js to work within the project.
    This is what I used:
    //compositionReady
    yepnope(
              nope:[
              'js/jquery.zoom-min.js',
              complete: init
    $(document).ready(function(){
        $('img')
            .wrap('<span style="display:inline-block"></span>')
            .css('display', 'block')
            .parent()
            .zoom();
    function init() {
      var image2 = sym.$("image");
      image.zoom({url: 'images/image.png'});
    After added the external scipts (jquery-1.7.1.min.js, jquery.zoom-min.js) I was able to get the magnify effect to work on a image that is revealed upon hover. I've uploaded an example for anyone who would want to do this as well.
