Port Images & Creations

I've been using Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 to edit photo's and create graphic images quite some time so I have a few thousand images/creations in its Organizer.   I'm going to replace my Desktop computer soon and I like to know how to port all of those images/creations to the new system safely.
QUESTION: What do I need to do to port all images/creations in Organizer from my old Desktop system to a new one????
NOTE: Old system is a 7 year old Dell Dimension 8400 running XP.

Answer: Backup Catelog (My Catelog in my case) to a external HDD (not C drive) allowing for a Restore with same software on new replacement system.

  • Rewrite the vhd file created by win7 image creation

    Hi,
    I'm trying to do something, something more to utilize the image vhd file, not just leave it there as a pure backup file.
    After the vhd gets attached, it can be accessed as a usual hard drive. Change anything like copy a random file into it, name it file A, then reboot the system, press F8 and call the image restore procedure.
    15min or more, I get the restored system. However file A meant to be in there at the exactly location I copied to, as a matter of fact it's non there..
    Isn't that possible to customize the vhd file created by sys creation program? I even would like to apply differencial VHD storage to customize the backup VHD and eventually customize the physical OS at a low risk.
    In this case, it seems impossible to make it work.

    Many thanks man:)
    About what I changed to the backup VHD file... Hmm, I would tell, huge!
    Not just create a file, but a fully functional installation of Win7 with up-to-date software set. Whereas the physical machine( the host of the backup VHD file), which I just take as a nude sys with image-creation-and-restoration functioning. In another word,
    the child VHD file is the future of its parent, as well as the nude host.
    Well,in my case, no yahoo for where is the file I created, but yahoo for where is my fully installed windows!
    Since we discussed so far, I'd like to share another phenomenon,weird one, which I think is the reason why I insist working on this.
    My physical windows- the nude one, how does it get installed? Guess what! From VHD backup file, just through the restoration procedure, and it's done!(Before the nude, the ex is a dying version- which could no longer endure my toture... and the most original
    root VHD backup came from that version before I killed it.)
    Think about it, what I am trying to do right now is just to rerun the holy restoration...
    Unfortunately, miracle dies in coincidence, it never happens again so far...
    VSS is a nice clue, I shall follow.
    Rgds

  • Need your advice about image creation

    Hi,
    I am trying to create image of my c partition on Satellite A100-529 - no luck. Norton ghost freezes (booted from DOS) just after start, g4l cannot load (kernel panic), partimage, being a part of SystemRescue CD package does not see the hd drive! Has anyone tried using any image creation/restore software other than Toshiba Recovery CD? Any luck with it? Please let me know.
    Thanks in advance for any help on that matter.

    Hello Czeslaw
    I have very good experiences with NORTON GHOST 2003 (Version 2003.775). This application runs under Windows and I have tested it with several Toshiba notebooks. It works perfect.
    I use my unit just for work and I create image every two or three weeks. I create it always on partition D and if something goes wrong I can start Ghost application and restore the unit from partition D. If you want you can also create DVDs.
    Bye

  • IDVD5 freezes during disc image creation

    iDVD(5.0.1) freezes at the "writing" stage of disc image creation.
    Video is imported to iMovie. I then make a 58 minute movie which I move to iDVD.
    After modifying the original iDVD file created by iMovie I "save as">new file name in another location on the hardisc.
    I quit iDVD, delete the original iDVD file, delete the playlist, restart, repair permissions, restart a 2nd time and then start iDVD.
    I open the 2nd iDVD file (the one I "saved as"), and then burn to disc image.
    The program goes through the first 4 menus and gets stuck on the "writing lead-in" phase. By stuck, I mean there is no activity for over 5 hours and I get the colored circle going around and around. I have done this before with a shorter, ~35 minute, movie with no problem.
    iDVD is set to "Best Quality".
    Any thoughts?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   2 GHz, 370 GB HD

    Hello Laszlo:
    Were you trying to make a disk image of just stills and no audio? (I quote Matti Haveri):
    - Sometimes iMovie HD 5.0.2 projects with only still images fail to burn in iDVD 5.0.1
    iDVD 5 sometimes has an error if it tries to encode an iMovie HD project consisting only of imported still images and no sound track.
    For example: I can produce the error when trying to burn this simple project: Create a PAL-DV project with iMovie 5.0.2. Import two 2048x1536 JPEGs to it with Ken Burns turned off. Send the project to iDVD 5.0.1 and let iMovie render the stills when it prompts it. Then encode the project as a disk image. At the very end of the encoding process there is an alert "Encoding Video. Error during rendering/encoding:" and making the disk image fails.
    The error can sometimes be prevented if a short video clip with audio is inserted to the beginning of the iMovie project. Sometimes this doesn't work and iDVD's error message at the end of the encoding is: "Errors were found during the burning process. The error #-1 was reported". (This applies to iMovie 5.0.1 and iDVD 5.0 -- I haven't seen this in later versions).

  • Image copy to folder with name based on image creation date

    Hi all,
    I am new to Mac OS X and automator so I would like to know the following,
    Is it possible to have an automated action that triggers when I attach my camera to USB, and who copies all images to a folder which is named according to the date when the image was created?
    Example:
    I attach my camera and it shows up as disk image named "NIKON D70" and the images are contained in subfolders "DCIM/100NCD70" (or actually in DCIM/*). I then want all images in these folders copied to my home directory in a subdirectory called something like "Pictures/D70/2007/20070605" where the year folder name and the date folder name should be according to current image creation date (which of course can be different for each image).
    I have created a simple automation script that copies images from my camera to a folder named according to current date, but that's not good enough.
    Anybody having any hints or ideas of how I can accomplish this?
    Regards
    Anders

    set folder_name to ((year of the_date as string) & "-" & day of the_date & "-" & month of the_date)

    I haven't found anything online on this particular error, I've seen all the ones about MDT 2012 and ConfigMgr 2012 CU 1. Any ideas? Any logs that may be revealing to the cause of this error? I've tried removing integration components, uninstalling MDT, reboot,
    re-installing, etc, but same problem occurs each time.

    I just tried to create a new boot image again, the DISM.log file does not show any evidence of the attempt to create the boot wim, in fact nothing since 0800 this morning. The most recent logs are as follows:

  • Date of image creation involuntarily changed in Bridge file/info panel

    I just realized that my image creation dates in the 'origin' panel in Photoshop has been involuntarily changed to 10/26/2012  3:59:47 PM. This apparently just started around last November. It is apparently triggered by applying the template I use to apply my name, address, etc. I'm thinking this is the date I actually created that template. But I have used it successfully for years and in images created before last November, the problem doesn't show up. If I hover my cursor over the image in Bridge, the correct creation and modification dates show up. It only seems to be showing up in the 'origin' panel and, therefore, in the entire metadata panel that shows all metadata. I have no idea how to even check the template to see if somehow a date was inserted. Does anyone out there have any ideas about this? Has anyone else had this problem?

    I don't know what you are seeing but when I hover over one of my images in Bridge CC, what I see is two dates: date created and date modified. Since the creation date was wrong, I went into the metadata template and simply changed it to the correct date. I don't see anything that says Date File Created and the 'Date Created" date has always corresponded (at least in the original, untouched RAW images) to when I actually shot the image.
    My workflow is to import the image from my camera and immediately change the 'name,' which is a meaningless 'img' number to something that makes sense to me (usually the place followed by consecutive numbers). Since I do this the same day as the shoot (I edit and upload each evening), it is possible what I see as Date Created is actually Date File Created. But at any rate, there is no 'Date File Created' line on any of my images. Where, besides the metadata, would that be located? Even in the metadata, the only date I see is under the 'origin' tab and that is the date I created the image (or it is until I add my own metadata template and then the 'date created' changes to that october 2012 date which I think corresponds to the date I actually created that information template).
    To add to the confusion, I just discovered the involuntary date change doesn't happen on my laptop when I apply my info template. Totally mystifying. But at least I now know there is a workaround...simply apply my info template on my laptop rather than waiting until everything is on the desktop.
    Do you know how to go into the metadata info template and view what's there? I'm talking about the customized template with my name, address, url, etc.

  • Strange Image creation Problem

    hi@all
    Just now i got a problem with Image creation.
    Alert a;
    try {
    Image m = Image.createImage("/" +Words[CurrentPage*8+i]+".jpg");
    a = new Alert(Words[CurrentPage*8+i], "", m, AlertType.INFO);
    a.setTimeout(Alert.FOREVER);
    display.setCurrent(a);
         } catch (IOException e) {
                        e.printStackTrace();
    then i got an exeption as following:
    java.io.IOException
         at javax.microedition.lcdui.ImmutableImage.getImageFromStream(+15)
         at javax.microedition.lcdui.ImmutableImage.<init>(+20)
         at javax.microedition.lcdui.Image.createImage(+8)
         at WordList.commandAction(+98)
         at javax.microedition.lcdui.Display$DisplayAccessor.commandAction(+296)
         at javax.microedition.lcdui.Display$DisplayManagerImpl.commandAction(+10)
         at com.sun.midp.lcdui.DefaultEventHandler.commandEvent(+68)
         at com.sun.midp.lcdui.AutomatedEventHandler.commandEvent(+47)
         at com.sun.midp.lcdui.DefaultEventHandler$QueuedEventHandler.run(+250)
    I put the images into directory res, and when i print out the image path, it is correct. I rewrite
    Image m = Image.createImage("/" +Words[CurrentPage*8+i]+".jpg");
    like this Image m = Image.createImage("/myImage.jpg"); then it works!
    I can not find any clue to solve this problem, totally confused.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thank u all in advance!!!!

    Well, assuming this is an honest question then you need to go to the apple icon top left, click it, then click system preferences from the drop down, and then select energy saver from the menu that appears. You can adjust how long it takes before your mac automatically switches off your display there.
    I don't really see how posting in the Developer forums is relevant for basic tech support. Unless of course you're doing so to highlight the stupidity of my question.

  • CGI Image Creation?

    For 10 years I've been able to use SuperCard based scripts to create images on-the-fly. The Intel/Leopard combo killed off classic for good and there's no good way (I know of) to bridge Apache with SC for this purpose. I'll keep looking but there may be little future there.
    Looking forward, are there any tools out there for CGI image creation? I'm not a Perl/Python/Ruby scripter but I will likely need to learn a new language to pull this off. In its simplest form, I would like to create JPEGs with predetermined backdrops and form-driven text.
    Thanks,
    Greg

    The code on servlet is this
            OutputStream out = response.getOutputStream();
         response.setContentType("image/jpeg");
         ImageIO.write(myBufferedImage, "jpg", out);

    Thanks & Regards
    Ramesh

    Hi Guna,
    That's not true: you can select whatever packages you want ImageCreator to create - you don't have to select items just because you've downloaded the .JAR files.
    I always download everything but only really ever build installers for the basic Client and Server packages. If you find you later need to build the installer for something else, you can just run ImageCreator again.

  • Dynnamic image creation from Swing Component

    Hi,
    I am trying to make a drag and drop area of an application, which will change the mouse cursor image to the component being dragged (a JPanel with several child Components).
    I know how to change the mouse cursor to a GIF image, my problem lies in dynamically creating the image from the onscreen components.
    Is there any way to get the image stream created by a container and pass that to a GIF creation method, or is there a simpler way?

    Why do you need a GIF image for that?
    A simple Image or Bufferedimage should do.

  • Encrypted Disk Image creation slow?

    I just got a new MBP with Leopard. I have created a number of encrypted disk images in the past using Tiger and a MBP and have not had any trouble. This weekend I tried a few times to create a 50 gig encrypted disk image (128 AES) on an external drive and after going through the process of setting it up and waiting for it to be created, (and watching the progress bar as it was being created), after about 45 minutes NO progress was showing on the progress bar. I ended up having to cancel the creation a few times because I thought something was going wrong. I’m not sure if there is a problem creating the disk image, or leopard is slow, or what.
    Does anyone know how long, on average, it would take to create an encrypted disk image of this size using leopard? I just want to know if there is a problem doing this on my MBP. Thanks for the help.

    A regular 50 GB disk image takes 50GB of space, no matter if it is full of files or empty.
    A 50 GB sparse disk image only takes up the amount of space equivalent to that of its enclosed files. So if the 50GB sparse image only has 1 GB of files inside, the image won't be much bigger than 1GB.
    A sparse bundle is similar to a sparse image, but instead of a single file it is a folder package with many, many enclosed files called bands. A new file added to the sparse bundle will tend to modify only a few bands. This makes incremental backups of a sparse bundle more efficient because only the changed bands need to be backed up again. Any change to a sparse or regular disk image will mean that the entire image will need to be backed up again.
    If you regularly add/remove files to a disk image, and you intend to back up that disk image with Time Machine, a sparse bundle is definitely the way to go. The other types will fill up your TM volume very quickly.

  • Disk Image Creation hanging

    I wanted to be able to lock certain files with a password, so I created a 2.8 GB disk image to store them in. Now that I am realizing the 2.8 GB is not enough, I'm trying to either increase it or create a second disk image that is 8 to 10 GB and then transfer the contents there.
    Increasing the current image size failed. And every time I go to create a second one, it just sits at the halfway point in the progress bar. I figured some hard disk or network action was causing it to falter, so I turned all services off, disconnected the ethernet cable and tried again; same results.
    Any idea?

    as i explained, a regular r=disk image will take as much space on the hard drive as the max size of the image you specify at creation. this is highly inefficient. a sparse image will only take as much space as the data inside. and you can choose any max size you want. choose 300GB. you'll never reach it and so you'll never have to resize.
    the difference between sparse bundle and a regular sparse image is that a sparse bundle is split in a number of bands. that makes it convenient to use when doing incremental backups with time machine. if you don't use time machine then you don't need to worry about that.
