All,
I made a step-by-step guide for installing the Oracle 8.1.7 database and Oracle9iAS 1.0.2.1 (HTTP Only) install on a 'clean' Windows 2000 machine. The guide has a screen shot of every single step that I went through to get an installation of the database and Oracle9iAS Portal to work.
Because I left my email in the guide, everyone will be sending me email with questions about their particular install. [What I really wanted was some positive feedback email to show to my manager... hint hint.] As I do not want to troubleshoot everyone's install by email, I started this thread.
Let's start the step-by-step install guide discussion here.
As a start, here is what I did NOT want to do with the guide: I did not want to 'redo' the current Oracle9iAS installation guide. So I did not put any conditions in the guide. This is just what I had to do to take a clean Windows2000 machine (no Oracle software on it) and get it to work. If I keep on adding conditions, eventually I will end up with the installation document.
Also, in the next version (for the Oracle9iAS 1.0.2.2) I will probably start over again from scratch as we are planning on addressing some of the issues with the install.

We do have installed a Lotus Notes LDAP. Unfortunately, the documentation is company internal in German.
The steps, in general, where:
1) Create physical connection (obviously, you did that)
2) Deploy the XML Descriptor for the LDAP under "UM Configuration => Data Sources"
We used a derivate of the Sun One LDAP Profile.
3) Match the assignement LDAP Group --> EP Role --> EP User via EP user management
4. The user, in our case, is always created in the LDAP first (from a different LDA administration group) and is then visible in the Portal)
I know, this is very generic, but the "magic" is in the XML profile and I haven't seen any documentation about it yet.

Portal content BP for EHS

Hi EHS gurus,
I would like to know whether there is any BP for SAP Portal content(EP7) for EHS(ECC6). I have found a BP BPEHS501_0-20000614 and imported in SAP portal. I got a role with pages for Industrial Hygiene&Safety and Product Safety. Is this all or is there any other BP for EHS.
Can you please let me know on this ASAP as i have to get back to the client on this.
P.S: XEM is out of our scope.We are going for basic EHS feature as this is a university implementation.

I need your help for understanding the behaviour of following two queries.
The requirement is to repeat the values of the column in a table random no of times.
Eg. A table xyz is like -
create table xyz as
select 'A' || rownum my_col
from all_objects
where rownum < 6;
my_col

A5
I want to repeat each of these values (A1, A2,...A5) multiple times - randomly decide. I have written the following query..
with x as (select my_col, trunc(dbms_random.value(1,6)) repeat from xyz),
y as (select level lvl from dual connect by level < 6)
select my_col, lvl
from x, y
where lvl <= repeat
order by my_col, lvl
It gives output like
my_col lvl
A1 1
A1 3
A1 5
A2 1
A2 3
A2 5
A3 1
A3 3
A3 5
A4 1
A4 3
A4 5
A5 1
A5 3
A5 5
Here in the output, I am not getting rows like
A1 2
A1 4
A2 2
A2 4
Also, it has generated the same set of records for all the values (A1, A2,...,A5).
Now, if I store the randomly-decided value in the table like ---
create table xyz as
select 'A' || rownum my_col, trunc(dbms_random.value(1,6)) repeat
from all_objects
where rownum < 6;
my_col repeat
A1 4

And then run the query,

Why the first approach do not generate such output?
How can I get such a result without storing the repeat values?

If I've understood your requirement, the below will achieve it:
SQL> create table test(test varchar2(10));

Refreshing only portal content area and not the naviagtion area.

Hello all,
I want to refresh only portal content area without refreshing the navigation contents.
Eg;- When i click on the any document present in the REPORTS folder in Detailed Navigation Area only the portal contents should get refreshed.

Links on DTN?Are they on a custom Iview?? Then u control with url mode.
If they are page links, i don think u cud restrict one WD application not to refresh when the whole page getz refreshed.

Weblogic portal content published for future date.

I am using Weblogic portal 10.3, need to publish a content item for futhre date , i tried adding the date and time to startDate property and published it, and the changes got reflected immediately.
has any one got his done.

Case 1 -
Assuming that there is a version which is currently displayed on the portal, if the business has published 3 future versions already (not yet published on portal), then he can make any changes in any of the future versions and have them automatically published.
Case 2 -
If there is a version which is currently displayed and there are 2 future versions published in the repository already, if the business user wants to make any changes in the current version, he just changes and re-publishes for the updated stuff to appear on the portal.
Case 3 - overlaps
Incase of 2 published versions with the same start dates but varying end dates, as the content selector will pick up both the nodes into the arraylist. In that case we can write a comparator, which incase of same start dates, do a comparison on the version id, and then pick the latest version. but in that case, we may lose one version. I guess in that case, we will have to advise the user handling this versionong to provide sequential dates for all the versions.
I hope I have got the issue right and covered all the cases.

Portal content/iview refresh in the screen

Hi SDNs,
I have created some transaction iviews, like a group of transactions, one is for Purchase related and one is travel related.
Once i logged into portal, i create a purchase order using the transaction iview and then i am navigation trip transaction iview and completing my action.
And again i am coming back to po creation transaction iview, it is showing the Start SAP Easy Access screen instead of me21n screen. again if i navigate to travel transactions like trip, it is also showing the Start SAP Easy Access Screen.
Not only for transaciton iviews, this i am facing for UWL iview and some other iview.
What i found here is, the content is not refreshing, everytime i need to logoff and login if i do any action in portal and to take affect of that action.
Can you please guide me, what might be the problem here and some inputs to resolve this.

File Content Conversion for ignoring the entire line

Hi,
 I'm getting a CSV file from that i want to skip some records based on some validation.. for example:
I'm getting the following data :
EmpNo EmpName EmpDept
E101 ABC ABAP
E102 XYZ BW
E103 GFC XI
E104 BVM ABAP
E105 ASD BW
E106 YFC XI
SO, here where ever i'm getting EmpDept = XI .. i want to skip those all the records( that entire line i want to skip).. .. this can be possible through Message Mapping.. but i wnat to do this in the File Content Conversion.. how can we do this..

Hi,
FCC is used to generate the XML structure so that XI can understood properly. You can not do any kind of validations or Skip the records based on Element value condition in FCC.
There are scenarios where you want to skip the lines that time you can use the below option in FCC but this is again not based on condition.
Under Document Offset, specify the number of lines that are to be ignored at the beginning of the document.
This enables you to skip comment lines or column names during processing. If you do not make an entry, the default value is zero lines.
The best way to do is use the UDF:
Write an UDF on target root node.
take input in one context:
input a= Emp Dept:
for(i=o,i<a.length;i++)
if(a{i}.equals("X"))
 result.addValue(SUPPRESS); this will supress the target root node if condition is equal to X
else
result.addValue("Constant"); this will generate the target root node.

We are having implementation at Steel trading unit.
Scenario for material master is as follows.
They procure different brands of steel say Kamdhenu, Essel etc (aprox 100 brands are there). In this there are different types say carbon steel, MN steel etc upto 100 types. Then for each type there are different compositions say 50 compositions for each type. Then for each compositions there are different sizes say aprox 500 sizes. So in this case its not possible to have material master for each combination, because it will lead to lakhs of material master.
So we proposed them to have variant configuration. In this case mat master wil lbe created in combination of brand & type of steel. So aprox (100*100) = 10000 mat master will be created. And we will create characteristics for Compositions and sizes.
So when PO will be created they will enter mat master based on combination of brand & type. And composition and size willbe selected from variant. my 1st question is, is there any other way doing this?
Again at the time of PO creation he knows only brand and type. So they make open PO for say aprox 100000kg.
Then they ask vendor to supply 10000 kg of 3rd composition and 7th size.
In the same PO then they ask for 20000 kg of5th compo & 8th size no. Now they are using another system so they send this declaration to vendor by separate sheet and vendor acts accordingly. But how to map this in sap?

Guide for Customizing the Production Dimension

We are in the process of implementing Procure and spend for E-Business and We have already implemented SC and OM for JDE & Universal adapters. As part of our current project, We may have to customize the Product Dimension to use/add more flex fields. We have already used several flex field attributes for the SC & OM implementation JDE . This is a common dimension used by multiple Subject Areas. Many of these product flex fields for different business units are different in context.
As we implement more and more OBIEE Modules, we see product attribute field list is going to grow more and more. I am looking for some guidance on how to customize the Common Dimensions especially the product dimension efficiently in a simplified mannter. Does oracle has any documentation on how to customize these kind of Common Dimensions? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
