Portal Deployment

Hi,
Is there any specific reason that we need to deploy portal (even for 8.1) on both admin and managed servers?
Thanks,
Ajay

The reason you have to deploy the portal app to the admin server is so that the portal database can update itself. The .portal, .portlet etc files are read and loaded into the database when the portal app is deployed to the admin server.
You can shut down the admin server as Srini mentioned, but then you cannot create entitlements. If you need to work with the portal admin tool, you need the admin server up, so that the changes can get replicated through your cluster.

  • Portal Deployment with Workshop?

Currently we do not have a clear picture, in the context of portal deplyment, on how codes developed on developer machines can be pushed and deployed in DEVT server.
We have done numerous Web app projects on WL in the past and are aware of the usual migration practices and norms.
But in the context of portal deplyment, we understand that each time when a developer creates an entity,e.g., a portlet, workshop will register the portlet definition id into WL system tables.
So right now, we cannot simply just migrate things to SIT like we used to in the previous Web App project.
Thinking of implementing either of the following alternatives:
    1. No workshop to be installed in DEVT server
    - CVS check-in developers' codes into a mapped-drive that is accessable by the developers.
    - Afterwhich they will do a compilation of checked-in codes from their own machines.
    - At same time, also from their own machines, they will effect the
portlet definitions ids to weblogic sys tables in SIT.
    - Portal Deployment and testing in DEVT server.
    OR
    2. Workshop to be installed in DEVT server
    - CVS check-in developers' codes into a mapped drive that is accessable by the developers.
    - Then, via extra-X, the developers will access the DEVT server and start a workshop there to do compilation of checked-in codes.
    - At the same time, the portlet definition ids will be effected to weblogic sys tables in SIT.
    - Portal Deployment and testing in DEVT server.
My above concepts might not be 100% right. Is there pro and cons of each method above? And is there any 'best practice' around to resolve above mentioned?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
I am affraid that it is not posible to install Oracle Portal on a 10.1.3.x app server. Oracle Portal is based on java 1.4 and thus only runs on a java 1.4 based app server, eg as 10.1.2.x. App server 10.1.3.x is based on java 1.5.

  • Error in using Control in PageFlow Portal deployment on Weblogic9.2

I am developing a small portal application in Weblogic9.2 using workshop. It uses pageFlow portlets to access a Control that connects to a database. When i add the @Control annotation tag to my pagecontroller and deploy the application it gives the below error ..
    Publishing failed
Error with publish task 'Controls Assembly'.
Controls assembly failure running assembly on WAR 'TestPortal' in EAR 'TestPortalEAR'.
    java.lang.NullPointerException: null
Error(s) occurred during publish assembly. No modules will be published.
below is the Control tag that I am using.
    @Control
    private TestMessageControl testMessageControl;
    Any ideas ??? thanks

    HI,
    Thanks for replying.
But i am very new to java concepts. So to be little clear let me explain to your points for better understanding.
    1) While creating proxy, did you copy the wsdl into the project? Yes i copied wsdl as document steps
    2) Can you check logs and try to get more details on the error. There must be more details on the exception after that sentence "2 counts of InAccessibleWSDLException".Could you please tell me which log you talking about. I got this error *"2 counts of InAccessibleWSDLException".* in Jdev while testing. Please let me know path to see the log.
    3) Very less chances, but is the WSDL definition of security aspects to invoke service changed ? Not sure about security aspects.. Please tell me how to check it.
    4) Make <load-on-startup> value to 1 instead of zero. Please tell me steps to do this

  • ESS for R/3 4.6C on new NetWeaver Portal -- deployment fails!

    Hi ESS Experts,
We're having problems deploying the older BP for ESS R/3 4.6C to our Netweaver Portal. Our Software Deployment Manager canu2019t install the file. Normally, BPs are .sca files but the BP for ESS 4.6C is a .zip file. We can manually rename the .zip to .sca, which is then shown in the SDM but the deployment always fails.
How can we install this BP for ESS 4.6C on our newer SAP NW Portal used for our BW system?
    Many thanks,
    Andrew

    Hi Andrew
Have you tried to unzip the file and identify the required deployment files?
    Further to this -->
If you go to /swdc it states BP ESS 4.6C-4.7 50.4 (no longer in maintenance) - this product is no longer in
    mainstream maintainence
Also there are no guarantees that 46C products will work with Enterprise Portal versions from other SAP product families
    e.g NW 700 with ESS 46C
If you have extended maintainence for 46C perhaps you could open a CSS/OSS message in component BC-CTS-SDM
to investigate why the installation fails and whether there is any workaround
    Hope this helps

  • Upgrade Ep6 to NW04s portal - deploy error

I am upgrading our EP 6 system to NW04s w/Portal. Java AS only. No ABAP. In the DEPLOY_ONLINE phase it is stopping after about 2 hours.
When I restart it, from the logs it appears to be restarting from the beginning instead of where it stopped. But I can't find the true cause of why it's stopping in the first place.
My arch logs are not full and my tablespaces are ok, so the DB didn't fill up with anything more than it should.
The logs show that most items were deployed, even though with warnings.  2 errored out, although I can't find why in the detailed logs:

    Dear all,
I have just deployed my dynamics crm 2015 on-premise version.
I would like to get some tips/guide about how to authenticate external users through portal to CRM.
Example, I want my external users to be able to log case request through portal.

  • Understanding Portal deployment

    Hello,
here I am trying to understand the deployment of portal on two front end servers with two back end server configured in 1+1 cluster and directories in MMR.
If simple configuration of portal on FE1 done with the sample portals. suppose portal name is Portal1 and url /portal with instance name portal1Instance. now about second server. I found that using example 2 file of portal config - search and derby will be configured and then portal configuration with sample on that. With name suppose Portal2 and url /portal with instance automatically generate which is fe2-80 (i suppose).
now users ldap entry will have attributes for two portals. portal1 and portal2 like display profile and etc.
Is this the right way to do? or we should have something different so that we could have only one portal and user can login on to any of the front end servers?
    thanks.

You can accomplish this by using the psadmin create-instance command on the 2nd server. The rough sequence is:
    Portal FE Instance 1
    1) Install portal in configure now mode and optionally select one or more samples to install
    Portal FE Instance 2
    1) Create example2.xml
    2) Configure the Cacao agent and Derby DB with psconfig and example2.xml file
    3) Create the new instance with the psadmin create-instance command using the container-specific template file
Now you will have 2 portal instances that share a common configuration. The configuration is shared because there is only one portal desktop service that contains the portal id for your portal. That is, you have two portal instances that share a common id and therefore a common configuration. Users can log in to either one. Changes to the desktop profile will affect both instances.
You only need to run psadmin create-portal if you desire to have multiple portals each with their own separate configuration. In this case, each user can have a separate portal desktop service assigned (one for each portal id), therefore keeping the configurations separate.

  • ADF Webcenter Portal Deployment System Hardware and Software configurations

    HI All,
Anyone please help me to sort out this issue.
I need to have the production System requirements of Hardware and Software.
    Please let me know.
    Thanks / Balaji.

    Hi.
Do you need High Avaiability in your environment?
Are you planning work with Spaces or Portal?.
A typical architecture consists in a cluster of two machines por HA.
About your response/users requirement I think that next settings will be OK (approach):
    - Each WC_SpacesX node 4g or 6g
    - Each UCM_Server 2g
    - Each WC_CollaboratrionX 1g
    - If don't use Portlets, Analytics and others you can maintain shutdown these servers.
Approximatelly you'll consume 23GB RAM with all components working (Analytics also, portlets... also).
For performance and good response of pages don't forget next tips:
    - WebTier OHS installed with DEFLATE module enabled. It reduces too much static files loaded in WebCenter like CSS, JS and Images.
    - Put your custom images in OHS instead of inside of WebCenter platform.
    - Don't install WebCache. It's not useful for WebCenter.
    - Configure JoC (Java Object Cache) for cluster caching.
Remember that this information it's only an approach based on my experience, you've to investigate and work with Oracle to decide the best apporach for your requirements.

I'd like to use ADF/JDeveloper to build my application, but my customer is already heavily invested on a WebSphere Portal deployment platform.  The JDeveloper/ADF documentation has extensive information on creating portlets in various ways, but they all seem focused exclusively on deploying in an Oracle platform.  I have tried both the "Standards-Based" as well as the "JSF Portlet Bridge".  I have tried to deploy the portlets in WebSphere Portal using both the generated WAR file, as well as by registering the WSRP producer.  None work.
With the WAR file, WebSphere Portal seems to import the WAR file just fine, and I can add a portlet to a page, but the portlet always shows as "unavaiable"
With the WSRP producer, I can get something to show in the page, but the functionality within the portlet doesn't seem to work.
I've searched extensively, but cannot locate any documentation or use cases for deploying portlets from JDeveloper into WebSphere Portal.  Does anyone have any thoughts?

Dvohra21, again, I apreciate the effort, but I think you're missing the fundamental question.
You've given me two types of articles/links.  Some are generic WebSphere Portal documentation about deploying a portlet from a WAR file.  Others are Oracle articles about who to generate portlets in JDeveloper, with examples deploying in Oracle/WebLogic servers.   Unfortunately I don't have a problem with either of those.
I CAN deploy a portlet WAR file in WebSphere Portal, and sucessfully add it to a Portal page.  I have done that with multiple WAR files generated from Rational Application Developer.
I CAN produce a WAR file from JDeveloper, following the instructions in the same resources you included, plus a few others.
The problem is, the WAR file from JDeveloper, does not successfully run on WebSphere Portal.  I create a simple Hello World portlet in JDeveloper, and I can generate a WAR file from it, and seemingly deploy to WebSphere Portal.   However when I add it to a Portal page, it always displays only a blank box with the text "This portlet is unavailable".  This is in the same exact portal page, where the portlet created with Rational Application Developer shows up just fine right along side it.
Bottomline is, although there is a great deal of information an demos about generating portlets from JDeveloper within an Oracle environment, I could not find a SINGLE ONE, that goes through an end to end scenario where it is deployed in WebSphere Portal.  Nothing in this forum, nothing in Oracle docs, and nothing I can find on a Google search.

  • Deployment (Ejb and third party jars with portal app)

My problem is that I'm trying to set up the development env for a portal project.
I have an ejb and a third party jar in my portal app. My portlets have some java
classes associated with them. The ejb needs to reference(instantiate) the java
    classes in the portlets.
Right now the only way I can get it to work is to put the ejb, third party jar
and the portlet classes(jarred up) into the classpath of the server.
I think there should be a way to deploy these things without putting them in the
class path. I've read all the manual sections about deploying.
Can anyone help me with this. It would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Target portal not affected by deploy/publish

    Hi All
I made a simple change to an iView (add the number 1 in the HTML).
    I deployed to the portal.
I clicked "view in portal" and see that the change is not reflected in the portal deployed iView.
I tried the same with publish with no affect.
Does anyone has any idea as to why my changes are not published to the iView?
It looks to my like a cache problem.
Is there any way to override portal natural cache for a specific iView or page?
    Thanks
    Doron

    Hi Doron,
Since there is no iView caching ion the .NET runtime, it could be 2 things:
    1. The portal caches the ivies.
    2. The runtime is not aware of the newly deployed par.
I recommend you restart the runtime after redeploying the runtime and let me know what happens.

  • Cannot deploy app files to j2ee engine in NWDS

    Hi,
I`ve got NWDS ver. 2.0.15 and I am trying to deploy some files to app server but I got message
Cannot determine sdm host (is empty). Please configure your engine/sdm correctly !
I am almost 100%  it`s because I need to use proxy to connect the server. I set up proxy settings in window->preferences->workbench->proxy but I think this option doesn't affect to j2ee engine connection. Cause for example I can access portal on port 50000 using my browser (with set up proxy), but I cannot deploy PAR file what`s more the settings window->preferences->SAP Enterprise portal are correct and the same which I used to connect portal using web browser.
I was thinking about other way to check the connection and SDM Remote GUI came on my mind. Does anybody know how to set up proxy in this program?

    Rich,
I did it and I am absolutley sure that host and message server are correct. I think that the problem is that to connect server the connection should be via proxy. And I think beacuse of it connection desnt work.
Look at my example I can connect portal via web browser with configured proxy, but I cannot deploy PAR file using NWDS with the same port and host as I used in browser.
I have configured proxy in NWDS (window->preferences->workbench->proxy) but I am affraid that this setting doesnt take affect to j2ee engine settings and Enterprise portal deployment settings.
Now I am looking for tool which gives me possibility to connect SDM some other way with proxy. Or maybe there is some soft that allows me to set all outgoing network connections to go via proxy.
