Portal Page Dynamic URLS & Search Engines

Hi,
I have created a portal site. These portal pages urls are created dynamically.
How can I optimize this dynamic (and long) URL for a search engine?
I am having trouble getting them spidered and ranked in major search engines.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Despite many posts on this issue, I am skeptical that there
is a problem
with search engines indexing pages with query strings. I have
a number
of pages with URLs like showdetail.cfm?articleID=25 and they
are always
indexed by Google and other search engines.
It is my understanding it largely depends on how you link to
the detail
pages. If you have direct anchors to the detail pages Google
will index
them. If you use a form or something else, Google is much
less likely
to follow.
For example:
<a href="showdetail.cfm?articleID=25">The best red ball
ever</a>
<!--- This will be followed by Google to be indexed--->
<form action="showdetail.cfm" method="get">
<select name="articleID">
<option value="25">The best red ball
ever<option>
<option value="26">The best green ball
ever<option>
<option value="27">The best blue ball
ever<option>
</select>
<input type="submit"/>
</form>
<!--- This will not be followed by Google to index the
detail pages. --->
This makes some sense, because how can a robot complete a
form even if
it could determine it is for navigation.

  • Indexing portal content by external search engine

    Hi All,
I have a question about how to enable external search engine to index portal content.
as I searched in sap help [Indexing Portal Content|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/46/9d1405fa743ef0e10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm]
To enable public search engines, such as Google, to index portal content, provide the search engine with the following URL:
    irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.portal.utilities.tools.portalspider.SpiderWebInterface?
How should I provide this above url to external search engine?
    Many thanks for all reply.

  • Disable Navigation framework of BW iview in portal page of KM Search result

We have BW Bookmarks in KM as Portal pages and recently we implemented search_from_here option for searching bookmarks of the KM folders. Trex index has been created. Search results of Trex displays the links of the searched BW Bookmarks.
When clicking on these links BW iview is embedded in the Portal page and is displayed along with header framework.
Is there a way we can customize link in the search result to launch in headerless portal window.
Tried to maintain Content link parameters option '3' to display in new headerless window of the bookmark and also maintained NavMode=3 option in the content link of the Bookmark properties under access links but didnt work.
    Thanks.

Resolved by appending NavMode=3 to Content link URL should launch in Headerless Portal window.

  • Why does firefox 4 freeze on the 1st result page of google search engine

I updated to Firefox 4 yesterday and now every time I use the google search engine my screen freezes on the first results page and will not allow me to click on any of the links on it, saying that it is not responding before eventually the screen goes white.
I tried to find a solution on the Firefox Support page but the only solution relates to McAfee Site Advisor. As I do not have this installed and never have I was wondering if it would be possible for you to tell me how do I fix it?
    Thank you.

Hi, i had the same problem, and I also use Bullguard, I contacted them, just received answer, (in about 20 min). It is incompatibility of FF4 and bullguard (they know about it, and fix will be released soon), and probably most of the other antiviruses, as I see this is very popular problem. The solution though is very simple : in firefox disable addon "Bullguard Safe Browsing". It works. Or alternatively open bullguard go : antivirus - settings - safe browsing (unchek that). For those not using bullguard i would recommend to check their addons in FF and if there is any from your antivirus try to disable it for now.

  • Firefox default start page uses facemoods search engine instead of google

Hi, I have issue with Firefox. Today I’ve notice that when I’m using search option on default Firefox 4.0 start page (about:home), results are displayed with Facemoods search engine instead of Google. I have uninstalled Facemoods from system and Firefox, yet it didn't work.

I haven't heard of this one before. The uninstall must have left behind a few settings.
The page corresponding to "about:home" must be set in a hidden preference. You can search for and reset it using the about:config feature.
    (1) Type or page '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter (click the button promising to be careful, and please be careful)
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''facemoods''' and pause while Firefox searches
    (3) The bolded lines show changes from the original Firefox setup. Some you might want to save, but mostly you would want to reset them to default. Right-click each one you want to change and choose Reset.
This blog post describes an additional fix for the address bar search feature if you use that: [http://www.flywithmysoul.com/2010/09/remove-facemood-from-firefox.html Fly With Me: Remove Facemood From Firefox].
Finally, I found a very long cleanup guide on the Spybot S&D forums which might be useful if the above doesn't solve it: [http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=61616 Manual Removal Guide for Toolbar.Facemood - Safer-Networking Forums].
    Does it work?

  • Search engine in a dedicated page

    Hi all ,
I would like the customers who need to search in the help could perform their research in a page especially dedicated to this.
I think the Research tool in the toolbar is not satisfactory to my standards -> lack of spaces for the answers, poor ergonomics ...
So, here is what i would like to do:
    - The customer clicks on a link from any page of the documentation,
    - it opens a new page
    - this page contains the search engine that allows to search in a visual environment specially dedicated to that.
I wonder if this is possible and if so how. I can't plan a working method to achieve this solution.
For the moment, I am working on a single robohelp project and perhaps in the future with multiples robohelp projects merged.
Please, don't hesitate to get back to me for more information and thank you very much for your replies .
The link bellow can help you to a better understanding:

    Edition and version:
    - Windows 7 64 bits

  • Bookmarks and Search Engine Indexing

How do you allow a user to bookmark a page or a search engine to index a page?
I am new to JSF and I am trying to decide whether to go forward with it. The company I am doing work for is requiring that their site can be bookmarked and search engines can index it. I think that most every site would want this. I understand that there are certain pages you do not want bookmarked, like a shopping cart or a muti page form, but item pages, article pages and so on should be allowed to be bookmarked. I think I understand how JSF handles URLs and understand how the first request of a page is handled. With this, I do not see anyway a particular page can be bookmarked or indexed.
For instance, this page in JSF would not be able to be bookmarked or indexed. I have seen many other posts regarding this, but I have not seen any solutions.
I did see an idea about placing query strings in a URL:
     /article.jsp?article=383276
    would be something like
     /article-383276/article.jsf
but there looks like there would be issues creating an ArticleBean on the first request and then accessing it.
I am also not sure how you would map /article-383276/article.jsf to /article.jsp, being that you would have many different URLs and then getting the URL in the address bar to reflect which article you were at.
    /article-383276/article.jsf
    /article-245621/article.jsf
    /article-145845/article.jsf
    and so on
I have also seen there are issues regarding the use of redirect.
I would sure like to use JSF on this project, but this limitation may make it impossible.
    Thanks,
    Warren

  • Can't submit keywords to GoDaddy's new Search Engine Vis. Service

So, I bought (for $3.00 per month) GoDaddy's SearchEngineVisibility service. It allowed me to make and submit a SiteMap, something GoDaddy would not let me do with the Rage software I bought. So far so good - but GoDaddy shows you a 10 point checklist of how you are doing. It says I have not submitted keywords. I tried typing in keywords on the GoDaddy interface. That did not work. I called GoDAddy. They said the keywords must be defined, outlined, selected - whatever in the program that built the website. I said iWeb but I did not find any function in iWeb that would let me choose keywords. They said iWeb can't do that. Said iWeb is not for business use. It is more for people who want to share photos with grandma and such.
So, how do I submit my keywords to GoDaddy? I would have thought that once I put up the Sitemap that Google/Bing, etc. would be able to crawl the site and automatically select keywords.
Someone said I need to just grab the HTML code from my iWeb site, buy Dreamweaver and paste the HTML code there and then Dreamweaver would allow me to define keywords and submit them.
    Any ideas?

After creating the sitemap.xml, Sitemap Automator uploads it to the root folder on the server - if you enter the correct info!
Before it can add it to Google, Yahoo, Bing and ASK.com, you have to notify each one of your site's existence and, in the case of Google, Yahoo and Bing, open accounts with them. Google and Yahoo require an HTML file and Bing an XML one.
There is no screen in iWeb. You decide what keywords that people will use to search for any page of your site and use them in the text of that page. The search engines will find them. SEKeyword is just a tool to help you find relevant keywords and your Google Dashboard will give you a list of the ones they find relevant once they have indexed your site.
The steps required to submit your website to search engines are listed HERE.

  • How do I get Google back as my preferred search engine?

How do I get Google back as my preferred search engine after this morning's "update" of OS X? Having spent a lot of time setting up a computer to work seamlessly the way I want in every respect, I really resent my time being wasted by "helpful" software engineers. I have tried changing it in the Firefox configuration, which no longer accepts anything other than Yahoo as either a home page or a search engine, all to no avail. The only thing has been changed since everything was working sweetly is the update of OS X a few hours ago.

What OS X update did you perform?
To change your default search engine in Safari: Safari menu > Preferences > General > Default search engine.
To change it with Firefox, click the icon at the left of the search field and choose one from the dropdown menu. If that does not work you may have to ask in a Mozilla support site.

  • Search engine optimization in dreamwaever

I'm pretty new to web site building and dreamweaver. I took
over a fitness competition site for a friend. Whenever I do a
google search for the contest nothing shows up. How can I improve
that? It doesn't have to be first, just somewhere in the search.
    Thank you

"Whenever I do a google search for the contest nothing shows
    up. How can I
    improve that?"
The site is almost 100% images and therefore there is nothing
    for Google to
    index.
In other words, search engines see the site but they don't
    see anything in
it because they cannot read or index images.
The first thing to do is change text in images to body text.
    That is, text
content where you now have images. As a general rule, if it's
    a word, phrase
or paragraph, type it in. Don't make it into an image.
    e.g.
    http://npcsacshow.com/event%20info.html
is one big JPG image. Ditch the
image and type the text in then format it with CSS. This will
    make the page
    visible to Search engines.

  • I can't change my default search engine.

A few days ago I wasn't careful enough by downloading a application from the internet. My landing page and my search engines were change to webssearches.com. Moreover a toolbar was installed. To remove the toolbar and clean out the addon wasn't that hard. To change the landing page was quite easy too, but I am not able to set my default search engine for the address bar back to DuckDuckGo.com. Eventhough I changed it in the about:config. After every restart of Firefox the search engine goes back to webssearches.com. How can i fix this? Even a complete new Firefox didn't solved the problem.

I am aware of that, but in that moment i was busy and forgot about that.
The Mozilla Search Reset helped a lot, but didn't solved the problem completely. Now my default search engine for the address bar was set to Google (not webssearches) which is a bit better, but i would like to have duckduckgo.com. Every time I try to change the configs, the value is changed, but it has no effect. So if I try to search in the address bar, mozilla keeps using google instead of duckduckgo. After a restart of mozilla the config is reset to google again. I can change every config except this one. How can I solve this?

  • How do you add search engines to the Smart Search bar?

The whole point of an omnibar is so you can easily search a variety of search providers without having to go to their website first. For instance, in every other web browser I can type "i Oranges" and get pictures of oranges from Google Images. Or I can type "a Cookbooks" and instantly search Amazon for cookbooks. In every other web browser, in fact, I've been able to do this since at least 2010.  What's the problem Apple? Can you seriously not figure out how to implement this? "Smart Search" isn't smart at all if I'm going to be stuck with the default 3 search engines.
I really hate when Apple pulls crap like this and I will be switching back to PC next time I upgrade. "It just works" has become a thing of the past and OSX seems to work against me more than it works for me. I shouldn't have to fight my OS to make it do what I want. Ridiculous.

Whomever told you to hide text is leading you down the wrong path. Doing dirty tricks like that may help you in the extremely short term but the bigger search engines are smart enough to figure out what you're doing. Dirty tricks are a great way to get your site banned from the search engines.
The best way to get good results is to make sure all important text is actually text on the page (not images), have fresh content (blogs are great examples of this, they tend to do well on search engines), and find good ways to get other sites to link back to your site (link farms are not what I'm talking about but think along the lines of reviews, interviews, forum signature posts, etc.).
Be very wary of people telling you they can guarantee you first page results in search engines. They may do that for a short while but search engines are constantly evolving and can drop you as quickly—if not quicker—than pick you up.
It takes time to get a site in the top rankings but there are other methods out there that are better in the long run.

  • Optimising video for web search engine results

I have little experience of producing video, so by default I have little experience or knowledge of premier... so I am here to ask a question on the back of a conversation I have just had with a client who is fairly video savvy, but not entirely premier pro savvy.
He is under the impression that premier pro has a facility to be able to analyse the content of a video and then automatically create a metadata file which can then be utilised for search engine ranking. Is this so? Has premier pro got this capability?
    Thanks in advance.
    Mat

    > Is that what's being asked for, though?  I understood the OP wants
Google to scan the video itself for metedata and use that for rankings.
Yep. The tutorials that I linked to show how to embed the speech-to-text metadata in the video and then extract it for search within Flash Player.
    > Actually whether or not any Adobe app is capable of such, I think the
bigger question is can a search engine actually scan video files, or do
    they just scan web pages?
The search engine companies are all moving toward using metadata within video files, but at different speeds and with different degrees of transparency. For now, I don't think that it's much used. But the time is coming (and is already here in a minimal, primitive form.)
The reason that I then suggested using the metadata as something to put as text on an HTML page was that I thought that this might be more valuable for the current state of search engine technology.
