Optimising video for web search engine results

I have little experience of producing video, so by default I have little experience or knowledge of premier... so I am here to ask a question on the back of a conversation I have just had with a client who is fairly video savvy, but not entirely premier pro savvy.
He is under the impression that premier pro has a facility to be able to analyse the content of a video and then automatically create a metadata file which can then be utilised for search engine ranking. Is this so? Has premier pro got this capability?
Thanks in advance.
Mat

> Is that what's being asked for, though?  I understood the OP wants
Google to scan the video itself for metedata and use that for rankings.
Yep. The tutorials that I linked to show how to embed the speech-to-text metadata in the video and then extract it for search within Flash Player.
> Actually whether or not any Adobe app is capable of such, I think the
bigger question is can a search engine actually scan video files, or do
they just scan web pages?
The search engine companies are all moving toward using metadata within video files, but at different speeds and with different degrees of transparency. For now, I don't think that it's much used. But the time is coming (and is already here in a minimal, primitive form.)
The reason that I then suggested using the metadata as something to put as text on an HTML page was that I thought that this might be more valuable for the current state of search engine technology.

  • Optimise galleries for web search engines

This is a re-post - apologies but I had little response earlier and the subject is important to me (and many others too I would have thought.
I have IT skills but am no web designer. I had someone create a simple photography web site using Flash, with the page design looking similar to a Lightroom Flash web gallery template. (See www.duncangrove.com) I am now able to easily update my galleries using no specialist skills, which is great. My concern though is that the galleries do not seem to be "search friendly". The site itself always shows up in Google but the images do not when searching for a specific phrase which is relevant to the title/keywords. I suspect I could do something to each of the gallery's Index.html page to add meta tags but since a new index.html page is created every time I add a new image, this would be very time consuming.
The issue really came to light when a client approached me to purchase an image for a large sum of money. He had found the image on my old Picasa site that I have not bothered with for years (and am ashamed of since it looks amateurish.) A Google search for the subject matter lists it fairly high up the fist search page. My "proper site" does not even show up in the same Google search, even though the image titles contain the key words that were searched for. Does Google focus on key words embedded in the images or on the image titles? Would an html version alongside the flash version help with search results?
    I would appreciate any comments/suggestions.
    Regards

    Google focus on image titles.
I could find any flash pages on www.duncangrove.com to look at.

  • How to use an iPad 2 for web search (via 3G only) while using AirPrint via Airoprt express wifi (NOT connected to the internet)

Heres the setup: I have an IOS 7 iPad 2 that I want to use 3G only for web searches/ emails while using an Airport Express generated wifi bubble (without any connected internett) to print web seraches via airprint to a wifi printer.
The problem: the ipad deafults to searching via the AE's wifi and vainly waits for the non existent interent to connect. It ignores the available 3G internet.
The workaround: a) turn off the AE's wifi, search the web via 3G b) once I have something to print, turn the wifi back on and print via airprint and the AE's wifi to the printer.
The question: Is there a way to turn off the AE's internet access. Using Airport utility, I have tried setting Bridge mode and static IPs to no avail. There is no turn-the-internet-off tick box.
In the ideal setup I would like the ipad 2 to search the web via 3G only (straight away versus waiting vainly for the AE to find it!!) and then print the results via the AE's wifi and airprint without having to toggle wifi on and off all the time.....
    Thanks in advance,

how do i configure FF (3.6.13) to display search engine results on a new tab? It used to do this for me but now doesn't anymore, and I can't find any config settings to change this.

Type '''about:config''' in the URL bar and hit Enter. <br />

'''browser.search.openintab''' is the preference, '''true''' is the value.

  • Getting videos for web viewing right

Using Xserver on Quad Mac G5 and QTSS. I would like to stream videos like the one in Apples live events. Quite impressive. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/mwsf08/
Using FCP pro 5.1.4 compressor 2.3 and selecting QT 7 for download. Using this on a web site produces less than desirable results. Usually blurry video or I get the "Q" in the movie template of iWeb and have to wait some time for it to download to start playing.
What are the tools used to create the high quality videos in these live events?

I'm tagging this one also.. I'm a new convert to the Mac (one more sleep until Mac Pro deliery!!). I normally do 10 megs for 2 minutes of 640X480 WMV video for web delivery and thought that was good when editing on the PC.. until I started to see some of these tech tutorials also.. and yeah.. crisp! But more importantly, is that thought the 100% viewing size might be on the smaller size, there isn't a lot of visual quality loss when expanding the view to 200% or more.. Now THAT was impressive..
I want to learn all of this.. =) So much stuff, so little time.. sigh

  • Exporting HD video for web

What settings should I use to compress a HD video for web?

It depends a lot on what level of broadband you expect the user to have, and whether the video has to play immediately. There are some natural sizes to use for the video, such as 1280x720, 960x540 or 640x360, and the frame rate ought to be 24, 25, or 30, depending on the source material.
Making it for medium to good broadband, and with wanting the video to play right away, you could do say 1280x720, 1 megabit per second, H264. It would look reasonably good. If you don't mind people having to download for a little while before the video can play, then take the data rate up to 3 mbps.
So, one way to look at that would be to use the AppleTV preset from QuickTime Player, then open that mp4 file and save as to mov (just to make your html task easier). It would look very good, but might take a bit of downloading time before it's ready to start playing.

  • I like to use Google for my search engine but it has been replaced with Amazon. How do I get google back?

In the upper right corner of the Firefox screen, there is a box for a search engine search. I used to have google there, but recently it somehow changed to Amazon.com. How do I switch it back to google?

OK, might want to make that change in your profile to get faster answers to future questions. If you leave the "iOS6" that's now in your profile, helpers will have to ask the OS question every time you post, slowing your getting help you deserve. Note the level of detail I was able to cram in my Equipment profile (at the bottom of this post).
I don't  have 10.7 on any of our Macs but I suspect a system update may have removed that iPhoto option. However, you can still get to your iPhoto files if 10.7 is anything like 10.8.
In System Preferences > Desktop and Screensaver > Screensaver tab, there is a "Source" dropdown menu direct under the preview pane. Click it and select "Choose Folder..":
That gives you a dialog box that should point to your "Pictures" folder. Within that is your iPhoto library. Select it and see if that gives you access to your images.

  • New Website Search Engine Results

I have an overly-simplified, single-page website, ourhealthcarecrisis.com and my client wants the text formatted in a way I'm not currently able to provide, mainly because I'm still new to website creation. In order to provide the appearance of his text, I've used a screen capture of the MS Word document he wants me to duplicate. It's not pretty, at least to me, but the appearance pleases the client.
Here's the problem: when he types the name of his website, ourhealthcarecrisis (minus the .com), into Google he doesn't see the results he wants. The only text that comes up, "create the FHIA," is from a previously-uploaded version of the site. I don't know how to "update" the information with Google and it frustrates him that I can't accomplish what he wants.
I know the search engines look for internal text in addition to keywords and meta tags, but for the moment I'm at a loss for options. I understand that formatting the text itself is what should really be done, but at the moment I can't provide it.
Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I 100% agree that the best choice would be to do the site in HTML...
but I've also had a client that insisted on an image being used instead of recreating the graphics, etc in HTML...sometimes complex images and text font can be difficult to reproduce in plain HTML.
So to the other excellant posters, SnakEyez02, RikRamsay14, and John Waller, I'd like to offer an option that could perhaps provide a happy medium.... use FLASH to represent the image you now have.
WHOA... now before everyone comes crashing down on me... a long time Flash developer... let me explain.
In the same way that there are "Best Practices" for developing an HTML Web site... there are also "Best Practices" for adding Flash to a Web site...(and remember, there is really no such thing as a Flash Web site... only HTML, ASP, PHP Web sites with some Flash content).
Those "Best Practices" (at least in my mind) include using swfobject to add alternate content and navigation for non-Flash browsers.
So as a regular part of adding Flash to a Web site, you would also need to include non-Flash navigation and content... that's just part of using Flash on a Web site... NOT something extra.
The alt content can be any content you can imagine.. for example:
    Links, images, lists, etc...
Full text narration for a Flash video..
Detailed text description matching the text in the image PLUS a detailed description of the graphic elements on the page (NOT picked up in regular HTML)..
    Alternate video format...
    the list goes on.
    For review:
If you think that Flash is somehow bad for SEO, it's time to dispell that MYTH!
If fact, in some circumstances I'll use Flash INSTEAD of just HTML because then I'll have better SEO than with just HTML alone.
    http://www.worldbarefootcenter.com/
The link to World Barefoot Center in the above post is just one example. View the source code and you see a couple paragraphs of text along with regular HTML links.... but what displays is the Flash version of the image and Flash links.
The client provided the artwork for the page... and that's what they wanted to use a .jpg image. Well yes, that could be done in HTML but it would be virtually invisible to Google. So Instead I converted the image into a Flash .swf and used swfobject to display the Flash. swfobject allows you to create alternate content inside the <div> which also holds the Flash .swf, then when the page is loaded it detects if the browser has the Flash pluggin. If it does, it displays just the Flash content, if not, it displays the alternate content. Since almost everyone has the Flash pluggin, for most people the Flash version of the <div> will display.
The alternate content for that <div> can be any regular HTML text, images, media player, links, etc., anything that you would use if you were not using the Flash. Now the best part is that the alternate content can be "over the top" as far as optimizing for SEO, since it will not be seen by most viewers.
Here's another example of SEO with Flash.. again, the page is just a single image provided by the client:
    http://www.ksowetsuits.com/
View the source code. The alt content is paragraph after paragraph of information about the site, including lists and links. If it was just the HTML, it might be kind of a boring Home page. But for SEO I can go "over the top" in promoting the site, since most viewers will never see that part... but it's all indexed by search engines. The end result is BETTER SEO using Flash than just HTML.
On another Web site, a Flash video is displayed, the alt content is the complete text narration of the video. Now how many people would take the time to read that if they could just watch the video instead?? again, better SEO with Flash than without. In fact in one case we had first page search result from that video narration within 4 hours of posting the page.
On still another site with a Flash video, the alt content is another video, but a .mov version, which will, in effect play Flash video on the iPhone (not possible you say??). Well since the iPhone does not have Flash pluggin, it simply displays the .mov version of the video, while everyione else sees the Flash version.
So anyway, if Flash is a part of your Web development, you should look into using swfobject and alternate content.

  • Creating PDFs with links for web searches

Hi everyone. That title is not exactly the problem I'm having, but it's a good start.
We have found that Firefox/IE/Chrome search our PDFs quite nicely, but when the link is clicked in the search results, all that happens is that the PDF opens to page 1. Users have to search again to find what they're looking for. Perhaps that is just how such a search is supposed to happen, but it seems that I've seen somewhere that a PDF opened to the page with the search term on it.
What can we add to the FrameMaker source files or the PDF (before it's posted to the web) to ensure that a search link takes the user precisely to the text being searched for? We're TCS3 with unstructured FM but might soon be, um, strongly encouraged to switch to the structured version.
I've looked through the FM and Acrobat forums for an answer, to no avail.
    Thanks for the help!

    > I wonder whether it's a limitation of the search engine, rather than FM or Acrobat.
That would be my guess. Search engines probably cannot search many PDFs in the raw at all (you don't have to turn on much security to turn a PDF binary into an encrypted mess). But if the PDF allows reading and/or printing, they can render the whole thing, and index what's displayed. The named destinations may not be recovered in that process, plus, you're not always assured that there will be an ND nearby everything you're indexing.
Adobe might even provide some APIs that would allow deeper linking into PDFs as a search result, but it may also be that few enough have useful NDs that it just isn't worth the bother to look. NDs inflate the size of the PDF, so many publishers don't turn them on (we don't, and probably won't, until we need deliberate deep linking).
If you want the info to be accessible like a web page, you multi-flow to HTML or a similar non-atomic format as well.

  • How to make search engine results lead to a specific slide

Through Google Analytics I found that a search in Bing for a particular item took the user to my page. The third slideshow, one of three tabbed slideshows on that page, is the default and shows first. The user promptly left my site because this wasn't what they were looking for. Instead, if possible for that search should land on the slide contained within the second slideshow. The search results in Bing showed the caption for the correct slide. Is there any way to make sure they then go directly to the correct slide?  I tried to add anchors to the individual slides or captions but couldn't make it work. Would that even help?

Thats easy. How many links from each engine do you want, do you want to allow duplicate results (i.e. google and yahoo both reporting the same URL in a listing)?
Do your own search on Google, Yahoo, etc. Look at the HTML code (typically a table) and look for unique tags or IDs that surround the URL. Google and Yahoo incorporate Click-Streaming into their search result URLs. That is, they don't provide the direct URL, but rather reference it within their own redirector which is simply a CGI program designed to count page hits and by what keyword and then simply redirect your browser to the actual page.
If you can find out what that redirecting URL is, just filter the HTML that you get from these search engines for that URL and then you know where the URL starts and stops.
Doing some further research will show you how to extract the actual URL from the redirecting URL. Just look at the URL and remove the www.google.com or yahoo.com from the begining and strip out all of the CGI that comes after it until you get to another URL.
    Example: http://search.google.com/redirector?this-is-google=true&url=www.some-server-that-you-want.com
First off, we now know where within the HTML a link starts, and doing a little more filtering, we can throw out the "search.google.com" and the first CGI of "this-is-google&url=" and then simply read and file the "www.some-server-you-want.com"
    Simple.

  • Need advice on web search engine

I may need to install a search engine for a asp.x web site I am working on. I know nothing about ASP.NET and the these are secure web pages. Also, this is for just a portion of the web site.I have no experience with search engines.
First question: Can search engines limit their search to just a section of a web site?
Second question: What would recommend for my circumstances?
    Thanks!

Answer to your first question: No, I don't want to provide a search engine to the entire site. There is a section you go in with several divisions. One division is the directory of services. The way that it's set up now is they have about 9 PDF files that are link to 9 headings. You click on a heading and it opens the PDF for that topic. The problem is that it takes a long time for the PDF to open and then the person may have to search it for the information they are looking for.
I think you may have answered my question already. If robot files are required to limit a search, then a search engine may not be the practical choice in my case.
By the way, to answer your last question, I am not coding in ASP.NET. I have made it clear to these people that I don't know a line of it. But I also think the solution to the problem is to convert the Directory to web pages, set up links of topics and maybe a JavaScript jump menu for linking to other bookmarked information. That way the searched is limited to only certain topics we decide beforehand but also limited to the directory.
What do you think of this solution? Do you foresee any problems?

  • Creating video for web

    Hi,
I'm currently putting together some videos in FCP for our new website. I've used FCP a lot for creating video for DVD's and exporting to .mov but converting to flash is relatively new to me.
I am using the On2 Flix FLV exporter to export direct from FCP to a 704 x 396 flv file.
Can someone clarify how I should set up my sequence in FCP to get the best quality results? All the source material is DV PAL for video (720 x 576 anamorphic) and PNG-24 for still images (in this case a background which I will input text over in FCP). Should I be setting all my sequences to 704 x 396, and what pixel aspect ratio should I use seeing as it is for flash/web use?
Also, in the Sequence Settings dialog box what should I set as the Compressor settings (dv pal/h.264 etc) as flv does not appear as an option?
    Thanks
    Jack

Thanks guys. So if I am to carry on working in the standard DV-Pal sequence I'm wondering what to do when importing graphics. I have been given a psd which contains a title screen that will be placed before each video. The psd has been given to me at 704 x 396 - the size of the final delivered FLV rather than the DV Pal sequence. When I bring this image into FCP and render it makes the image look pixelated/blocky (I'm exporting from Photoshop as a PNG-24). What is the proper way to export graphics for use in Final Cut? Should I re-size the image to match the sequence or bring it in at 704x396 and have Final Cut resize it?
    Thanks
    Jack
