Portrait only, auto rotate (apple directive!)

HI Guys,
I have an app that looks great in portrait mode it was based on a book and the layout had to be exactly the same as the original.
apple rejected as it was just in portrait mode and didn't auto rotate. So after some discussion they have agreed that if it auto rotates
in portrait (upside down) they will accept it. This is my code, I don't seem to be able to prevent it going to landscape when I add auto rotate
is there a way to have auto-rotate portrait mode only? I'm pulling my hair out cos the client wants it sorted tonight.
function onChange(event:StageOrientationEvent):void
switch (stage.deviceOrientation)
case StageOrientation.DEFAULT :
trace("Rotated DEFAULT.");
break;
case StageOrientation.ROTATED_LEFT :
StageOrientation.DEFAULT
trace("Rotated left.");
break;
case StageOrientation.UPSIDE_DOWN :
StageOrientation.DEFAULT
trace("Upside down.");
break;
case StageOrientation.UNKNOWN :
StageOrientation.DEFAULT
trace("Unknown.");
break;
cheers

hi, i picked this up by reading a few other psts. hope it helps:
private function stageOrientationChangingHandler(event:StageOrientationEvent):void
     if (event.afterOrientation == StageOrientation.ROTATED_LEFT || event.afterOrientation == StageOrientation.ROTATED_RIGHT) {
          event.preventDefault();
basically event.preventDefault() keeps the stage from changing to that particular orientation.

  • IPhoto 09 loses date on auto-rotated photos

    Try that: take an old photo in portrait mode (auto-rotated from a camera, mine is a Canon) from your iPhoto library, drag it to the desktop, and drag it back to iPhoto. The new photo imported has lost its original date, its date is now the importing date.
    I don't think that is acceptable.
    iPhoto 8 would lose lost of EXIF information when auto-rotating photos, but the date?!

    Thanks for the suggestion.
    I tried with the File/Export method: the results is strictly identical.
    It seems to me that the problems resides in the import of "auto-rotate" photos. As the previous version of iPhoto, iPhoto 09 create a modified version of the photo, which loses all the EXIF information, including the date/time the photo was digitized.
    iPhoto still displays the photo with the correct time, probably from the library or the Original file, but when it exports it, the only date remaining is the creation date, which is the import date.

  • 8.1 | 11s | Auto-rotate only works for landscape & button does nothing

    The way auto-rotate is sort of doing it's own thing right now. The way it works is if  the screen is upside down (winbutton up) -> tablet mode, rightside up -> laptop mode. Those are the only two switches that it makes, and it doesn't rotate to a portrait mode, which I would really like.
    The auto-rotate button doesn't seem to do anything anymore. The dialog will appear on-screen but it rotates the same wether it's on or off.
    I can make the switch with ctrl+alt+<,> but that doesn't disable the keyboard, and it flips back to landscape when I move it.
    Is there some list of upgrade issues?
    Other issues I have/had are: cpu throtling in tablet mode, dolby stopped working though audio works fine with new driver. Also the upgrade messed up my DNS settings. Updating the wifi driver & forgetting the network driver didn't solve it. I had to go to the conection's settings and set the DNS manually on IPV4 and disable IPV6.

    Check for newer drivers and install if any, then post if you still have the issue.

  • How to auto rotate Images on Full Screen Slideshow if pictures were taken mixed Portrait and Landsca

    In Muse: How to auto rotate Images on Full Screen Slideshow if pictures were taken mixed Portrait and Landscape

    There is no way that Muse would automatically rotate the images. What you can instruct Muse to do is whether you want to show all image content and leave blank space in either direction OR scale the image to fill the frame resulting in some cropping, but filling the otherwise blank space.
    The options are Fit Content Proportionally and Fill Frame Proportionally respectively.

  • Canon, auto rotate, RAW with PhotoShop can not handle portrait!!!

    I shot in RAW using Canon EOS Digi SLRs.
    My Canon bodys have auto rotate, so if I shot a portrait image when it loads into iPhoto it turn it the right way up. This is fine. But I use PhotoShop CS3 (it does it with any PhotoShop version) if I drag an image from iPhoto that is in landscape mode and drop it onto the PhotoShop icon in the dock it moves the RAW file to PhotoShop fine and I can edit this in RAW.
    If the image is in portrait, then when I drag it again to PhotoShop it send a JPG version and not the RAW.
    To get round this I need to export any portrait images I want to process in RAW then load them into PhotoShop.
    Not sure if it's a bug or a feature !!!! but it's been in iPhoto for a year or so.
    Now I could try the "edit using...." as the external editor but I also use Aperture and GraphicConvertor so I just drag to the App I want to use.
    Any ideas?

    Ray,
    I believe that what you see is normal. Perhaps I can explain why.
    You turn your camera 90 degrees to take the vertical shot. Although your camera never shows you this, the shot is horizontal, with an added flag to display as rotated. When you import it into your library, iPhoto recognizes the original RAW photo and saves it in the Originals file. But iPhoto also recognizes the rotate flag, and it obeys. Since the core philosophy of iPhoto is to preserve an untouched original file, the rotated version gets created and saved into the Modified folder (as a jpeg, see below). There is no way to turn this off.
    A note about RAW files. iPhoto will store the RAW file and even export it for you, but it can't display or directly edit the RAW data. So, the RAW file is tucked safely away in the Originals folder, and a jpeg version is created and stored in the Modified folder. In your case, this jpeg is also being rotated to portrait orientation. Again, there is no way to turn this off.
    What you can do about the rotation dilemma is turn off the auto-rotate feature in your camera. Upload using Image Capture to a file on your desktop. Open the portrait photos in Photoshop and save (overwriting the original, unrotated image). Once saved, import the folder into your Library. This should give you the correctly oriented RAW in Originals, which will export when you drag it to Photoshop. Note: Preview will not work for rotating the file, because all it does is add the rotate flag, telling Preview to display the file with rotation. It will look okay, but when you export or upload to a website you will still see the original, unrotated file.
    Regards.

  • [Lollipop] Turning Auto-rotate off forces portrait mode

    In various situations, I like to use my tablet in landscape mode, but turn auto-rotate off (watching movies/streams while lying down).
    I do this using the pull-down quick menu. After the update to lollipop however, whenever I turn off "Auto-rotate", the button's name will switch to "Portrait" and my tablet (and app) will rotate into portrait mode, even if it was in landscape mode when I pressed the button. I reckon this is done with e-books in mind, but for my purposes this makes this feature useless.
    Is there any way to restore the original behaviour (tablet stays in the orientation it was in when you decide to turn off Auto-rotate)? If there is not currently, I urge you to change it back to the old way (other lollipop tablets seem to have the old behaviour still from what I could gather from friends).

    uliwooly wrote:
    That's the way it's supposed to work
    Well, that just sounds like an opinion. Do you have any source for that? As I said, my friends' other tablets behave differently.
    Is there anyone from Sony around who can shed some light on this or make inquiries? Or is this a users-help-users-only support forum?

  • [FIX] Yoga 13 auto-rotates to portrait on startup after Win 8.1 upgrade

    This was going to be a question post but I just stumbled across the answer on my own, so here's the solution instead!
    After upgrading the Yoga 13 to Windows 8.1 through the Windows Store app, and even after installing all the new drivers, I found that every time I restarted when the lock screen came up it would suddenly rotate 90 degrees left to portrait mode. It would fix itself if I rotated the laptop or hit the hardware button to turn auto-rotate off and on again, but still kinda annoying.
    So here's the fix:
    -Seach for "local services" and open it up
    -Scroll down to "Sensor Monitoring Service"
     and double-click
    -Mine had its startup type set to manual, change this to automatic
    -Restart the computer
    Note:
    My Yoga was running a clean install of Windows 8 when I upgraded to 8.1, so I'm not sure if this applies to a Yoga with the factory install intact (or if it even gets this problem with the factory install, since I don't see any other posts about people having this problem).
    Solved!

    With a factory configuration the serivce is set to Manual, Trigger Start, and this config seems to work well...

  • HT1586 Can the Apple TV 3rd generation be played through a Danon receiver or is the only option to plug directly into the tv?

    Can the Apple TV 3rd generation be played through a Danon receiver or is the only option to plug directly into the tv?

    AppleTV has no analogue connections.
    It has HDMI which can go to your TV or in theory to an AV receiver equipped with HDMI inputs.
    Some HDMI amps/receivers and HDMI switches can cause glitches with AppleTV but it really depends on the particular device.
    AppleTV also has optical out, so if you only wanted a connection for Dolby Digital or stereo feeds from the AppleTV you could connect AppleTV to teh TV via HDMI and also run optical to the amp.
    Audio is output over HDMI and optical simultaneously.

  • Auto-rotating portrait pictures in iPhoto Library

    I'm using iPhoto 6.0.5 (316) and when I started importing photos from my old Windows PC, all of my portrait shots were auto-rotated in the library which is awesome. But I just noticed that the last several rolls I've imported aren't doing that. All the images are from the same camera so I'm not quite sure what I did (if anything) to cause the difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    The orientation tag is part of the image files EXIF data recorded by your camera when the picture is taken. If iPhoto sees the orientation tag it rotates the image for you.
    Unfortunately, there are lots of things you can do to inadvertently strip an image file of the EXIF data. For example, early versions of iPhoto would export photos with most of the EXIF data removed, at least the makernotes portions.
    Did you open or view the photos that didn't rotate in any software that you didn't use with the others? If so, that may be what happened.

  • The printer box shows "auto rotate" , but it prints only one side.

    HP laserjet model

    "Auto Rotate" generally refers to automatically selecting portriat or landscape printing.  For two sided printing you want to print Duplex.  Some printers have automatic duplexers and can print both sides of the page automatically, others support only manual duplex where one side is printed, then the pages are reloaded in the printer and the back side printed.
    Please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model? What operating system?

  • I want to change my Whatsapp picture but most pictures turn out either upside down or sidewards; I even have auto rotation but it works on certain pictures only, what do I do?

    I turned auto rotation on and I want to change my profile picture on Whatsapp. On certain pictures they turn out correct, however on most of them, they turn out sidewards or even upside down. I want to calibrate my phone but it doesn't say anything in settings about calibrating it, what do I do?

    When they turn sidewards what I do is going to Photos, then Edit the specific photo I want as my Whatsapp profile and turn it 4 times. It will stay the same in Photos but when I go to Whatsapp and choose it, it doesn't turn sidewards this time.
    Hope this helps!

  • Auto Rotate Disable for Photos ....... Sort-of ..... Trick / Tip

    I have many photos and many are in the wrong Rotation in my Ipod and wanted to disable the Auto-Rotate feature but no luck since Apple forgot to Add the feature to turn it off.......(STUPID APPLE) but no worries, Apple will add it to a future update and charge you for it!.
    But I have found an easy way to show off my photos in the right orientation and disabling/tricking the feature momentarily and Here is how I do it:
    Open the Photo you desire that has the wrong orientation.
    Hold the Ipod/Iphone in the orientation where the Photo is in the right Position,( i.e: if your photo is in landscape while holding it in the upright position.).
    All you have to do now is, with two fingers touch and hold near the bottom of the screen as close to the edge of the Ipod/Iphone as you can, so you can still see 95% of the Photo and then Rotate to the right orientation and there you go! your photo remains and does not Auto Rotate, keep holding until you have shown the photo to your friends.
    All this does is to freeze the photo, simply put, it is thinking you are either enlarging or going to the next photo, it doesn't disable the feature it is simply waiting for you to make a decision.

    As of 10.1.2 we no longer talk about "auto-rotate and center". Page scaling for 1-up output is always registered to the center point, and the new dialog only refers to orientation.
    Ultimately of you want a page to be printed at 100% physical scale, you need to supply users with a PDF that has the correct paper size and margins wide enough to stay within their printer working zones. In that case, the setting for scale and rotate is meaningless, as "fit", "shrink" and "actual" will all equal 100%. If the paper size matches, rotating a page has no bearing on the X/Y position - it's there to handle cases where the document is portrait but the printer tray is landscape, or vice-versa. If for example you open a US Letter portrait page and "force" it to print in landscape to a printer with a portrait feed tray, it is not rotated and squished into the middle of the page - aside from coming out the machine sideways it'll look no different.

  • How to reduce size of iPhoto library ? (after the usual auto-rotate issue)

    Hi,
    This is my first message here, even I am oftenly reading and searching these forums...
    I found many topics about this issue of "auto-rotate settings on camera, that will increase the size of the library".
    Thanks Terrence and also Toad, for replying millions of time, to the same question.
    (I was actually surprise that you don't have a topic, with all info, and you would simply point the guys to that same topic..., instead of writing again and again..)

    etc.. etc...
    Summary:
    I have started a new library, with the birth of my son, 7 months ago.
    I was going to move it and realized : 15Gb, with 5Gb in the "modified" folder.
    After looking around here, I found the reason.
    And now, the auto-rotate is turned off on my cameras. (and I will try your Xee, to rotate before importing to iPhoto)
    Now, my question:
    What can I do, with my existing library?
    Is there a way to reduce it? to get rid of all the rotated pictures? (could I delete the one in Original folder?
    Only solution is to reimport all, in a new library ? (I can't imagine doing again all the events... even if it's only 7 months worth of pictures...)
    Thanks for your info and suggestions.
    Thierry.

    I don't know of any software to remove that tag. If you did and imported the files they would be displayed in the landscape orientation which is not how they were taken. So if you wanted to view them correctly you'd have to rotate them from within iPhoto thus creating a modified version and be back from where you started.
    Your best bet would be to go thru the photos using Quicklook to find those portrait oriented photos and use Xee to rotate before importing.
    Or use a different DAM (digital asset management) application that can handle those types of files without creating modified versions. I use Expression Media which lets me rotate the files from inside the application without creating modified files.
