Possible Newbie-deciding wether to switch

Hi there, been doing a bit of research onchanging our tv broadband etc to save some £'s. Atm we are with sky for tv and pay £22 a month and find it awful-so little we want to watch-movies on late etc etc and begrudge paying this out, we're not upset about the money itself- just the money we woud have to pay to get movies and sports-ridiculous. Our broadband and hone is with talk talk and we pay about £23 a month-happy enough with this.
I've just checked on BT site and we are eligible for Bt vision and i was looking toward the unlimited package- what my question is- what on earth does this include. on the site it gives very vague descriptions (shows like... ) and the on demand -is there a listing anywhere to give me an example of what we would have for choice if we get this package?
really dont want to switch over and find kids disappointed etc and by this stage it'd be too late-we be in for 12months.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. As you can tell -ive no experience on on demand, bt vision, i player etc..sorry folks!

This previous reply to someone else thinking of moving from Sky might be of use.
http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Vision/Sky-HD-vs-BT-Vision-Unlimited-Extra-is-it-worth-switching/m-p/9...
If you can't get Infinity then unfortunately that means you can't order a package with the 'Extra' live broadband channels, nor Sky Sports 1&2. You would probably be looking at getting a BT Youview box with either just the TV Essential or TV Unlimited package.
However, if you wanted to view the free BT Sport 1&2 channels on the box you would have to get a BT Vision+ box and a viewing card and pick up the Freeview transmissions of them (you can't get ESPN this way). The Youview box doesn't have a viewing card slot and uses Infinity broadband to deliver those channels.
I assume you are aware that to be able to order BTTV you would have to change to BT broadband and a BT phoneline.

Yes.  Technically there will not be any conflict as long as the private addresses used by the 2 clusters do not collide, and provided that the switch's port capacity and bandwidth will not be exceeded.
Your NA (netadmin) can also configure the switch to separate the 2 Interconnects from one another (called partitioning when using Infiniband) - if the switch supports such features.
A major consideration is not to make the switch, public. That typically cause a range of problems and can have a serious impact on an Interconnect. But using 2 private networks on the same infrastructure should not have the same problems - if configured and implemented correctly.

Sorry... No... Downgrading is not supported by Apple.

    Try This...
Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of Your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

    If no joy...
    Reset all settings
Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings.
This will return all iDevice settings to factory defaults... you will not lose any data.... But you will have to re-enter all of the device settings.
    If the issue persists...

… the funny thing, this article and all other profound advice been found on the net, miss to mention a very basic advice:
first of all, a MC is clip as any other !
… sounds perhaps a bit … too basic , but  - as an amateur like me, and using MCs almost any day - you should keep that in mind for your workflow.
After creating a MC, which can be done in seconds!, you get a single clip in the Events browser - and you should treat it as any other clip:
select parts of it, add it to your timeline, you can add it to secondary (for pic-in-pic for example), you can split it, shift it, nudge it, ...
aaaand you can select a diff. perspective = camera (or mic…), without losing synch.
I'm noticing, people spend way too much time in the multi-track timeline view of an MC, in hope, this gives them back those 'tracks' FCPX doesn't offer (for good reasons...)

  • Possible newbe to Appleworld has 11 questions  about Ipad2

    Hello everybody,
As a Windows user I am very interested in the Ipad 2 as so to become a member of the AppleWorld. But still I have some questions about the Ipad2 and hopefully somebody can help me with my questions:
    1) Is the only way to install the applications by using the Itunes Store? Or can it also be dragged and dropped and than installed like in Windows.
    2) If the anwser on the first question is "YES", what happens than if you install programs using Itunes and for some reason you have to format the Ipad? Do you have to download them again? Pay for them again? or is it something like the Wii, that you can download the payed ones so many times you want on the same Ipad?
    3) Can you play normal DIVX movies on the Ipad or do you have to convert them to Mp4 always?
    4) Can you see normal PDF files or do they neede to be converted also?
    5) I have read that it doesnñ´t support flash for example, so how cna you see Youtube movies or CNN reports on teh Ipad?
    6) The battery life is somewhat 10 hours, but as we know in life, all the batteries die after x years. Can you cange them by yourself? Or do you need to go to a Applestore and they change it? And if so, is it expensive?
    7) Can you just drag and drop your own MP3 collection on it?
    8) I have a PDA which I use with a GPS device (using Bluetooth), and using the program TomTom. Does the Ipad has a program similar as TomTom? Does anybody has had experience with it?
    9) I have in my home a private network using Wifi and cable. Can I connect an Ipad and then searching for excample my PC harddrive for a movie? Is that possible to link the world of Apple with the World of MS?
    10) Where can I take a look of all the Apps for the Ipad2? Do I first have to install Itunes, even if I do not have an Ipad2?
    11) My primary use for the Ipad will be: reading mail, surf the web, read PDf files and maybe see some videos. I suppose the Ipad2 can do all that (and more). I thought of the 32GB, should it be enough? I mean of the 32GB, what finally have you for using/storing?
Many thx for helping me and I hope to be very soon a part of this "new" world for me.

You download apps directly to the iPad from the App Store app which is preinstalled on the iPad. You can also download the apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync them to the iPad.
    2) If the anwser on the first question is "YES", what happens than if you install programs using Itunes and for some reason you have to format the Ipad? Do you have to download them again? Pay for them again? or is it something like the Wii, that you can download the payed ones so many times you want on the same Ipad?
You do not have to "format" apps for the iPad if you download them in iTunes on your computer. If you purchase an app, if you need to download it again, there is no charge.
    3) Can you play normal DIVX movies on the Ipad or do you have to convert them to Mp4 always?
Read the requirements on this link.
    http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/
    4) Can you see normal PDF files or do they neede to be converted also?
You can download iBooks in the App Store as a free download to view and save PDF files. If someone emails you a PDF, you will be able to open and read it in the Mail App once you set up your email.
    5) I have read that it doesnñ´t support flash for example, so how cna you see Youtube movies or CNN reports on teh Ipad?
It does not support Flash. There is a preinstalled YouTube App on every iPad. Many websites are using html5 which makes a lot of video content available while surfing the web on an iPad.
    6) The battery life is somewhat 10 hours, but as we know in life, all the batteries die after x years. Can you
cange them by yourself? Or do you need to go to a Applestore and they change it? And if so, is it expensive?
You must have the battery replaced by Apple. I easily get 10-12 hours a day from a full charge. Read about the iPad battery care here.
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html
    7) Can you just drag and drop your own MP3 collection on it?
You sync music and other content from your iTunes library on your computer, so you will need to install iTunes on your computer. Your computer must meet minimum requirements which are detailed in the iPad specs website referred to above. This site will give you more information on iOS 4.2, the newest software on the iPad.
    http://www.apple.com/ipad/ios4/
    8) I have a PDA which I use with a GPS device (using Bluetooth), and using the program TomTom. Does the Ipad has a program similar as TomTom? Does anybody has had experience with it?
All iPads have a preinstalled Maps App for directions. Navigation Apps are available in the App Store.
    9) I have in my home a private network using Wifi and cable. Can I connect an Ipad and then searching for excample my PC harddrive for a movie? Is that possible to link the world of Apple with the World of MS?
Yes you can "link" the two worlds. Peace and harmony have come to the land of the iPad.
The newest software on the iPad has a feature called Home Sharing that allows you to view content on your computer, in your iTunes library on your iPad without having to sync the movie to the iPad. This allows you to free up storage space on you iPad but still be able to enjoy all of the movies and TV shows that you have purchased.
    10) Where can I take a look of all the Apps for the Ipad2? Do I first have to install Itunes, even if I do not have an Ipad2
You do not have to install iTunes to see some of the apps that are available for the iPad. You can Google IPad apps and there any number of websites that talk about and review apps. You can go to Apple's iPad and/or iTunes websites and navigate through them to see some of available apps.
    11) My primary use for the Ipad will be: reading mail, surf the web, read PDf files and maybe see some videos. I suppose the Ipad2 can do all that (and more). I thought of the 32GB, should it be enough? I mean of the 32GB, what finally have you for using/storing?
Because of the new Home Sharing feature you can download loads of video content and not have to keep it on your iPad if you want to view it. Only you can be the judge of how much storage capacity you will need. From your brief description, the middle of the road 32GB model should be fine. If your are a gamer at all, some of the bigger name games can take up 700 or MB and videos and movies can be 3-4GB as well, but you can keep those in your iTunes library as mentioned previously. And remember, a very extensive music or photo collection can take up a good bit of storage as well.

  • Since the recent Firefox update my Facebook page is distorted and rearranged, I've tried all possible solutions and ready to switch to safari!

Since Firefox's recent update, my FB page is off center and rearranged awkwardly. On Safari and Chrome this doesn't happen so I'm certain it's FF. I've tried clearing the cache, reseting the page in safe mode, checking page style etc etc and nothing has changed.

  • Integration between "SAP PI-Lotus Notes/Domino"  "SAP PI-PeopleSoft"

    Hi all,
I have been working  with XI (most of the time integrating SAP systems and third parties) for years but now i face following situation, i have to integrate SAP systems with Oracle systems, Lotus systems, Peoplesoft systems and so on, using XI.
I have achieved SAP-XI-Oracle integration using JDBC adapter but i do not know what is the best practice when trying to do the other integrations.
I ve read that adapter engine XInotes is a good approach in PI-LOTUS scenarios, so the JDE adapter (iway) for the PI-PEOPLESOFT. But, is there a way to achieve my requirements with the standar adapters without too much effort in the backends and not too much programming in XI?
i know there is no perfect solution but any help will be much appreciated (and of course, rewarded with points)
Thanks in advance and best regards,
    David

    Regarding Peoplesoft
think it all depands on the amount and types of interfaces and data needed needed to be transfered between the systems.
We need to go over the Iway solution and see what are the featyres given by the adapter.
(from a brief read of the iway pdf) i saw they use the same methods (XML,SOAP,IDocs) to interact between systems.
the adavtage of Iway might be the fast implementation (out of the box maybe) and that there might be no development needed...big adavantage.
But some times the use of XI fits better because of the costs of the adapter or the ability to be a hub and send this data to other systems as well (again I'm not familiar with I-way solution so maybe they can do it to if they have a development enviorment for the adapter).
I reccomand you to contact I-way and get as much info as possible then decide wether its better to go with XI or the adapter.
I give you an example from SAP...
the CRM solution comes with an application called data migrator or something like that, this tool synchronize master data betweenn the SAP CRM and SAP ERP...this tool was written for the CRM and becasue of that fits well for the integration (4000 software developers can't go wrong.... )
For this integration between the systems XI is not a match for my opinion and it will take some developments in XI (the easy part) and in ABAP for the CRM and R3(not so easy part) to integrate thouse two.
    So......
Go over the Blue print or understand the customer integration needs and scenarios.
Then decide according to the I-way information on the adapter which way is the best..XI or 3rd party adapter.
By the way webmethod is an instegration tool like XI and as I recall they dont have a Peploe soft specific adapter.

  • Newbie experience

    hello Archers,
I am not a linux expert, I installed a bunch of linux distros in the past but I can be easily defined a newbie. I recently built a new desktop PC and decided to completely switch to linux (no dual boot and no VM ). I tried many distros before landing on archlinux but now I have a fully functional, light and fast desktop environment.
    I needed 3 days to:
    - understand archlinux "philosophy" (day 1);
    - install the base system, cpufreq, gnome, alsa (day 1);
    - install compiz fusion, extras, eye-candies, plugins, printers, camera (day 2);
    - learn to build my own packages, update HPLIP package from 1.7.4 (in the repos) to 2.2.6 (latest stable version) (today)
Compared to ready-to-go distributions like Ubuntu it's a lot of time, but probably now that I know arch better I would need no more than a couple of hours, plus -repeat- I am quite a newbie.
What's the meaning of this post? Well, just wanted to encourage users evaluating the possibility of installing arch linux to give it a spin, it's not (just) a distro for gurus, anyone can install it and it gives great satisfaction. It's one of the few distros that lets you configure the system exactly the way you want it and it's not bloated with dozens useless applications/deamons/modules/etc.
I don't understand why arch is not more "mainstream" (and reading the forums the developers seem proud of it), anyway to me this is the way linux should be.

You live and Florence and you're running Arch?  You must be in heaven.
Like you, I tried most of the mainstream distributions before coming to Arch.  I didn't expect to but I've become a dedicated Arch user ever since.  I'm not even the type of person who likes to build things themself (I'd rather have everything I need installed for me) but I've found that the system runs much faster and cleaner when you do it yourself and you usually know what's going on at all times, so I'm very happy I did it.  And the best thing is: I don't have to do it all over again when there's a new release, just a simple pacman -Syu does the trick.
Good luck with the rest of your endeavors!

  • Switch CC license on same PC without reinstall?

I have a question about switching from one licence to another on the same computer. Here's my situation: I have worked for a company for a while, and the company has one Mac workstation with the complete Adobe CC. I have just ordered a PC laptop workstation for my personal use, and I understand that the CC licence allows for running CC on two computers. So far, so good.. the company has no problem with me using the company's licence on my personal laptop. But if I later leave the company (or if the company decides to cancel the subsciption), and I decide to buy my own CC licence, do I have to uninstall everything on my laptop first, and then buy / download / install CC again? Or will it simply be possible for me to just switch the associated licence on the already installed CC?

It should be a matter of signing out from the original installation and signing in with your new ID/code.

  • AEBSn - Unable to switch to 802.11n - Installation Bugged!

If you have a fairly recent Mac and an AEBS which supports 802.11n (the Gigabit or "802.11n" model) then you are supposed to be able to get 802.11n which has advantages over 802.11g.
I run late-2006 iMacs and these are 802.11n possible machines, providing 802.11n has been enabled. Downloading the "2007-002" enabler is not necessary, as the enabler will tell you. That's because a similar enabler is embedded into the AEBS installer on the supplied disc.
I assumed that the instal process for the Gigabit AEBS would handle things automatically in terms of getting everything moving at 802.11n speed or at least allow easy selection.
Nothing like it. This is a warning to others.
I noticed in my Airport Utility that I was running at 2.4GHz and not 5GHz which is for 802.11n. So clever me decided to simply switch and restart my AEBS. (An incentive too was to move above all the shops across the road. They seem to have channels 1, 6, and 11 working hard.)
Lost my connection to the AEBS as a result of that. The AEBS instal process did NOT update my computers to support 802.11n. Can be checked via Network Utilities. I hadn't thought to check first.
133MAC in Australia were very helpful - they spent almost an hour working through things his morning. Top Notch support!
Solution required the Airport instal to be rerun but a lot of other poking around first in order that the embedded 802.11n enabler would indeed run. And you'll need a LAN cable and possibly need to move one computer over to the AEBS!
Couldn't find an Apple Knowledgebase article on this problem with the Airport instal disc but I suspect it is a known issue.
(I had nothing quirky in my network setup / machines. All using the most recent system software updates, default settings in network and sharing preferences and so on)

Yes I know about all that as these are the very options presented in the pop-up menu on the relevant configuration tab.
What I'm saying is that selecting the 5GHz option resulted in my iMacs being unable to communicate with the AEBSn through WiFi - the 5GHz spectrum.
Leaving the AEBSn in "default radio mode" as you call it will mean that it will actually be using 802.11g at 2.4GHz due to its inability to use 802.11n at 2.4GHz or 5GHz. The Apple Tech people I spoke to recognised this.
Many purchasers of the AEBSn, like myself, will really want to take advantage of the 802.11n capabilities in the 5GHz spectrum. They wish to dedictae the AEBSn to 5GHz throughput and deliberately exclude 802.11b/g on their AEBSn. Let some other boxes take care of that in the 2.4GHz range.
For a little home office thing with a mix of old and new clients the default setting for the AEBSn is a very good thing as the admin doesn't really care about throughput.

  • Supplier Registration - Is it possible to push new created vendor in SRM?

    Hi SRM / SUS experts,
We are defining Supplier Registration processes and had a question with regards to it. After getting supplier information through forms and questionnaire, let's say I approved it and then converted it to Vendor in SRM. Then, is it possible to push newly created vendor back to ECC? I see (database) icon to push vendors to ECC in monitor Business partners transaction, but it is disabled. I am thinking since I have not set up XI integration with ECC, the icon is disabled.
Will you please share your experience with this functionality?
If it can be pushed, then which account group will it take when it is created inECC and which views are created (General data views?)? Is it created under same number as SRM business partner?
    Your inpur is highly appreciated.

  • Is it still possible to create a 32-bit only iOS app?

With the latest AIR release (17), is there any way to still create a 32-bit only iOS app for testing on the iPad 1? It's currently not possible to install an app with 64-bit support on an iPad 1 to test the app. My understanding, however, is that Apple will do something on their end that will allow apps submitted to the App Store (with 64-bit support) to still be downloaded and installed on an iPad 1. Having a way to test on the iPad 1 before submission to Apple would be nice.
Is there a compiler switch or something that can be used for this purpose? If not, could such a switch be added easily? If we had such an option, we could continue testing on and supporting the iPad 1. Being in the education market, this is kind of critical to us.
    Thanks,
    Chris Sheffield
    Read Naturally, Inc.
    www.readnaturally.com

Because an app built with 64-bit support *cannot* be installed on an iPad 1 device for testing purposes, whether using iTunes or Xcode. It simply doesn't work. This is the message generated by Xcode:
This is when trying to install an app built with Flash Builder 4.7 and AIR sdk 17 beta.
As I stated before, my understanding is that Apple will still allow installing apps on an iPad 1 through the App Store, but *only* through the App Store. In my opinion, this is too late. We really need a way to continue testing on the iPad 1, if at all possible. That's why I'm asking if there's a possibility of adding a compiler switch of some kind that would allow building 32-bit only apps, for testing purposes only.
    Thanks.

Couple of days ago the homehub3 has decided it will switch back to "Fast" latency from "interleaved" and has been causing issues which has needed me to unplug the DSL line and replug it back in after the Broadband light has switched off every evening and morning. This is causing issues when attempting to play games on steam or minecraft such as horrible lag and being kicked off the server cause i am "moving too fast" in minecraft

  • Possible to attach ethernet hub to AEBS?

    Dear All,
Does anyone know if it is possible to attach a (non-switching) ethernet hub to my 2009 (dual-antenna, 802.11n capable) Airport Extreme Base Station?  I've just wired my house up with Cat-5e and would like more than the three available ethernet ports, but want the AEBS to continue with all NAT/routing.  I'm reluctant to get involved with a second router and subnetwork, because in my experience that's a pain ...
    Thanks in advance,
    arn

I am not familiar with this particular device, but the link says that
This switch is a Plug & Play installation and no configuration is necessary.
So, if you take that at face value, the device is a switch.
The problem with this device is that you will lose performance. Your AirPort Exteme has 10/100/1000 Ethernet LAN capability. The switch that you are looking at is only 10/100.
Suggest that you look for a 10/100/1000 or what is known as a Gigabit Ethernet switch. Netgear or Cisco products would be a very good choice.
