Possible to do a crossword in DPS?

Is it possible to do something dynamic like a crossword in an Adobe DPS publication? Like for example embed an HTML iFrame which contains the crossword inside the magazine? As far as the reader is concerned it still looks like they are inside the magazine.

You can do it either way. The web view can either load from HTML embedded in the folio via HTMLResources.zip, or can point to a web reference.

Log into digitalpublishing.acrobat.com with that ID and then try again.

Been asked to try and embed this into the pages of a DPS document for extra tracking - or so I am told, however it seems to
hang the upload process to DPS, well completely bombs Indesign, when this is placed as a Webcontent overlay.
Is this the correct way to do this?

Your advice at least stopped the crashing, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be sending any values. Basically what we are looking for is a static value to be fired into the Custom Variables ideally via the Content Views Event if not then via a Custom Event. Any clues how can we make this happen? I have set all the interactions up on the overlay that seem relevant, is there something else we need to be doing to see the variables in the script?

  • Privately Distributed DPS folios

Is it possible to take advantage of the DPS for enhanced interactivity but privately distribute it to specific employees within a single company? I would like to recommend it as a sales tool, but the key to being able to do that, is private distribution. I cannot have it publically accessable through the app store. (ipad only)
If it is possible. How do I do it? A link to a good tutorial is fine.
Found this link. Not sure how exactly it applies.
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6675499/distributing-iphone-apps-to-private-clients

To create DPS apps with restricted distribution, you need an Enterprise account with both Adobe and Apple. You can read more about here:

  • DPS development app

We are using DPS apps for our company's capabilites (as apposed to the traditional powerpoint).
We send perspective clients an iPad with our capabilities app on it and we are getting quite a response.
Does anyone know if it is possible to share a development app to other team members and/or iPads?

    Yes it is possible.
If you have an DPS Enterprise account and iOS developer Enterprise license, you may create an Enterprise Signed Build and distribute the app within your organisation.
If you have a Pro or Single Edition, you would need to add and include UDID's (Upto 100) of your team members iPad's in your mobile provisioning file and then you may distribute the developer.ipa to them.

  • One Folio for mobile and web

A client wants to use one publication (a magazine) for mobile devices (iOS, Android, Windows Store) and the web. The latter should also be usable on non-touch devices. The current solution for viewing the publication in the browser (desktop) is based on a pdf and flash.
Is using Adobe DPS/Folio a viable solution to this problem? What is your experience with embedding Adobe Folio publications within websites? Is this possible with the Professional Edition? As the magazine is free: Do the downloads/views deduct from my 5,000 included downloads?

You can enable social sharing to display content in the "web viewer" so that it can be viewed on non-touch computers.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/help/using-social-sharing.html
You can embed this web viewer content within your website by specifying a Hosting URL. It's possible with a Professional or Enterprise DPS subscription.
Whether this is a viable solution depends on your content and your needs. Look at different web viewer examples or build a test app if you already have a Pro account.
Yes, the downloads/views of web viewer content counts against your fulfillment download bundles.

  • Pinterest and the like

I understand that the possibility of using Pinterest technology within dps apps is being looked at for future releases..BUT in the meantime does anyone have any alternative solutions to being able to have clickable content within an app that passes a url to an external website. Of course i can make anything a hyperlink...but  ideally want someone to have logged into the app so the information passed in the url is specific.
This brings up the question too of whether i can have someone log in to my app and have that information retained for passing into a variable on all links.?
Also....if i have a link within my dps app can i force the external site to open up within my dps framework so that it looks exactly like part of the app?
    Thanks for any help

I had the smae problem as you and what i did was to go to settings>general>>reset then tapped on reset location & privacy which then when i went to the app and it asked again to have access to my photos and the problem was fixed

  • Folios for lectures and students : impossible to preview...

    Hello everyone,
I would like to create folios as complement to my lectures using InDesign CS6 but I'm wondering whether this is possible without any Creative clouds or DPS membership.
According to Adobe's help, I understand it is : "The Folio Builder panel, Digital Publishing Suite Dashboard, and DPS App Builder all require a verified Adobe ID to sign in. Signing in to the Folio Builder panel is optional. If you don’t sign in, you can create local folios and preview them using the Desktop Viewer or the Adobe Content Viewer on a mobile device. Signing in to the Folio Builder panel lets you upload folios to the acrobat.com server. You can download these folios to your mobile device or share them with other users...."
However, once I've created my folio I can only  visualize it using the desktop Adobe content viewer but not on the iPad (although connected to the pc and with AdContent viewer).
    Thanks for your help.
    Patrick

You don't need Creative cloud or DPS membership unless you are creating/publishing app. Is that giving you any error message? When you try to preview, does it show device name?
You can also create local/offline folio, can preview them desktop viewer or Adobe content viewer on device.
Steps to view folio on device:
    1. Connect your iPad or iPhone to your computer.
    2. On your iPad or iPhone, start the custom Adobe Content Viewer created using DPS App Builder. It isn’t necessary to sign in.
    3. To preview a folio, in the Folio Builder panel in InDesign, select the folio you want to preview, and then choose Preview on [device name] from the Preview menu at the bottom of the panel.
The previewed folio is copied from your computer to your device. The folio remains on your device when you disconnect it. When you archive the folio, it’s removed from the library.
    4. To preview only the current layout, open the Folio Overlays panel and choose Preview on [device name] from the Preview menu at the bottom of the panel.
    5. The previewed layout remains on your device when you disconnect it. When you return to the library, the previewed layout is removed. Previewing on Device from the Folio Overlays panel displays only the pages of the current layout. Alternate layouts in InDesign CS6 are not included in the preview.

  • Confused about self distribution

I would like to distribute my content on my website or email it to someone to have them put it on their device. With all the DPS Tuts and help, I'm not seeing how to do this (or it is quite possible I'm missing it).
Is this possible? I'm new at DPS and I'd like to know this before I put effort into it.
    Thank you.
    Anthony

Anthony, this forum is for Digital Editions, which is an ebook library
management system.  I think you've posted to the wrong forum.

  • Professional Edition - Single app only?

I heard from my reseller today that from now on the DPS Professional Edition will only allow development of a single app. Is this correct?
    Greg

The price gouging is really how you look at the product-- or more importantly what your client produces with DPS.
If you are a traditional magazine or periodical publisher. Chances are the the $4800 over a year is a drop in the bucket compared to traditional press costs (even factoring in the folio download fee). However, where I was getting the most intereset with DPS was from non-traditional publishers who were looking to essentially create their own newsstand or library. Lot of non-profits, associations and schools which have lower print runs and liked their content being able to live in an app. I have a feeling that in another year they will be looking for another option and I will be the one with egg on my face assuming no changes from Adobe. We charged a platform fee as well but it wasn't close to $4800 per App so for some it will be tough to swallow. Plus I'll have to go back to other companies who have had an interest and let them know of the news.
Don't know what is possible in terms of code with DPS and distribution channels. But I'd like to see unlimited multi-folio "free" apps remain with Professional Edition meaning you're not charging app, issue or subscription fees through the distribution channels...i.e. free app, free content (essentially current model without the ability to cahrge for apps) Then another Tier which would be "Professional Edition Profit" where you buy a single multi-folio license with the intent to sell content or the app (what the new model is proposed to be). Would have broader market reach, capture more clients and folio downloads.

  • Loading text from google docs

As part of an animation I would like to load some text in from an external source like google docs, is this possible.
I do this in DPS at the moment using a web view, so the same thing really but now part of an animation in edge.
    cheers
    Alistair

Its always better using the XML instead of text files.
However, you already prepared some text files.
But, you have use the variable name in the text files , so
that only you can retrieve them by loading.
I added some samples for loadVars. It may be helpful for
    you...

  • User edited fields & server connectivity?

Not sure if I've worded the title properly...
Wondering if it's possible to create an app via DPS that allows the user to type in information that either is saved locally or on a webserver.
For context, I'm wanting to make a workbook for people taking a class so they can add notes and answer questions in specially designated areas of the app. It would be great if this worked together with a server-side cms tool so the user has access to their data via a webbrowser as well - but not necessary.
After watching the tutorials and reading things online, I'm getting the feeling that this isn't something indesign and dps are capable of...that I would need to hire a developer to put something like this together for us.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.
    Thanks...
    Andy

This feature could be added, as you can add HTML/javascript into a DPS publication.  But it will require knowledge of said programming technologies, and knowledge of your CMS setup in order to integrate the data. Into it.  So while it is possible, you may want to hire a developer for that part.

  • Is it possible to link from a Google Map to a DPS article?

    Hey everybody,
I'm using DPS to produce an iPad travel magazine about Berlin. One feature shoul be a Google Map with all the Points Of Interest from the articles. I want to set links from the articles to the POIs which is possible as far as I know. But is it also possible to link thge other way round, from a POI tooltip in the Google Map to an article produced in DPS? The map will be entirely online.
    Thanks for your help!
    Timo

You can use social sharing URLs to link from the map to your DPS application, provided it is a multi-issue publication and not a Single Edition application.
The advantage to this approach is your readers will be able to see your DPS content even if they aren't on a mobile device, as the web viewer will render the content in those situations.

  • This is possible in InDesign CS5.5 using Folio Builder (DPS).

    Hi DPS Experts,
I am new to this DPS work flow.
I am using InDesign CS5.5. I have the question? This is possible to create the apps for the below mentioned web link.
    http://www.spanish-real-estate.co.uk/
The website is in joomla and the domain is www.spanish-real-estate.co.uk
The app will be free so I am not sure if this will need apple store approval.
If it possible please any one help to or guide how to I start the process how to uploaded the files in DPS and how to check it out the video and audio and everthing like in the website to be embeded in the iPad Apps.
Please give the path to achieve this goal.
    thx,
    csm_phil

Out of curiosity, why do you want your app to look like the actual website?
And Yes every app goes through an approval process before it appears in the app store.
