Possible2 keep Import pane open after import has started?(prevent closing)

Hi all,
I am currently in the process of consolidating all my images into Aperture 2. I have a lot of "old images" in various folders on a separate harddisk, and I want to bring them into various existing Aperture Projects.
The "issue" I have, is that whilst I could just drag a (physical) folder into Aperture containing sub-folders, and these would auto-generate albums, I do want to take advantage of adding keywords and basic metadata for the individual import sessions, i.e. use the Import dialog in Aperture 2.
When you again and again have to wait for the import dialog to do it's fancy animation, it becomes a little bothering - any way to tick a box and say "keep the thing open"?
I might be missing something very obvious, but searching the forums and the Aperture 2 help files did not really point me to anything...
Thanks!
Jonas

You can just import import all your images from your harddisk in one single import batch using "Import Folders" and then let Aperture create an Album for each Folder.
When the import is finished then you just click on each Album and "Select All" and add keywords from either the "Keywords HUD" or the "Keywords Control". You will hereby also be able to take advantage of your keyword hierarcy. This is much faster than applying keywords Folder by Folder on import.
Import all your images into one new Project and then move them to the respective existing Projets afterwards. Same goes for your new Albums to existing Albums. Takes only seconds.

  • How can one cancel an iTunes purchase after download has started

How can one cancel an iTunes (movie) purchase after download has started but not completed

The reply from cor-el assumes that the question was about an ordinary download, managed by the "Downloads" panel interface. A Firefox update does its downloading (before installation) with a different interface panel. I do not have a screen-capture of the actual panel in that it's appearance happened a few days ago and our final approach was to suspend the automatic download (note that that had been started in error), and then to do all the manual steps we usually would do for a deliberately, manually-started, update. But the "hanging in mid-air" update forced us to do that update in a way and at a time that we ordinarily would not do it.
I still contend that the Firefox update progress panel (whatever it is labelled) does *'''NOT*''' have any obvious cancellation interface, not even the "x" noted above. (... and if it *only* had an "x", in my opinion that would not be a sufficiently obvious interface as compared to having a "Cancel" button.)
I am replying in this thread on behalf of "shepdog" as I am our local desktop support for the particular Macintosh. Please consider this reply as a mark that the reply from cor-el, while it was a correct answer, was not an answer to the particular question that was asked, i.e., "Not Helpful".

  • "Open document with" has started to appear

GroupWise 7 client and server - we do not integrate our documents with the
appropriate applications when installing GroupWise clients.
Until recently when double clicking on a document in the library - either
by browsing the library directly or using Find - GroupWise fired up the
appropriate application (usually MS word from Office 2003) then loaded the
document, returning it to the library when you had finished editing.
We are now being asked to select the application to be used to open the
document, even though the icon for the file type in the library shows the
    correct application.
This has started recently for me and other users. As far as I know we have
made no changes. Is there any way to force GroupWise to use the appropriate
    application without prompting the user.
This problem does not occur if I use Windows Explorer to browse documents
on the local machine or on the network - so Windows knows the correct
application to use to open the .doc files.
    Thanks

    More information:
It's a particular problem with GroupWise. When I double click on an
attachement to an e-mail, where the default action is to open, I'm also
presented with a list of programs to use to open the document. Even when I
say "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" the setting
    does not stick.
Yet double clicking on a .doc file in Windows Explorer always loads word
and opens the doc without asking me which program to use. So my PC knows
about the correct file associations - it's GroupWise that forgets

  • After Effects has started crashing when I scrub through timeline.

I've been working on an animation for several weeks and now, starting yesterday, whenever I scrub through the timeline the program crashes on me and gives several error messages. It seems to have started after I added a large image layer with motion blur enabled that moves pretty quick. But even if I turn off motion blur for the whole comp the issue still occurs.
    Error messages are as follows:
After Effects error: crash occurred while invoking format plug-in “PNG”.
After Effects error: crash occurred while invoking rendering plug-in “AE_OpenGL”.
After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message was: <6356> <ASL.ResourceUtils.GetLanguageIDFromRegistry> <0> Unable to obtain the User 'Language' registry key at: Software\Adobe\After Effects\10.5\ Defaulting to 'en_US'.
After Effects can’t continue: sorry, After Effects has crashed. For After Effects Help and Support, go to http://www.adobe.com/support/aftereffects. If you still can’t resolve the issue, please contact Adobe Technical Support (2).
    ( 0 :: 42 )
Before quitting, you have one chance to save your project (don’t use the same name as the original).
I am using After Effects version 10.5.0.253.
I have tried several troubleshooting steps such as updating my display drivers, disabling OpenGL in Preferences > Previews, Moving the Extensions folder out of my install, Recreating my preferences, Purging the cache, and even just uninstalling and reinstalling After Effects all to no avail.
    Additional Details:
    Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-Bit
    CPU: Intel Core i7-2600 @ 3.40Ghz
    RAM: 8.00 GB
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 with Driver ver. 320.49
Any help from the community would be greatly appreciated. I'm usually good at being able to research and resolve my own issues by this one has me stumped and my boss is on my case about the deadline.
    Thank you.

While I did have OpenGL disabled in Preferences > Previews its seems I still had Fast Previews set to Adaptive Resolution - OpenGL off. I've switched this to just Off and now seem to be back on track. I believe I didn't have an understanding of what all "turn off OpenGL" truly meant. I'll continue working and report back wether or not I have any more issues related to this.
What would have causes this issue to appear in the first place? I've been working in AE 5.5 for about 2 years now doing a multitude of different projects but this is the first time I've run up against this issue. Is my hardware just simply underpowered?

  • T60, 5 beeps after windows has started.

        Hi
I have a colleague with a T60 and she experiences that shortly after windows has finished loading (after log on and the programs that autostart have started) it gives 5 beeps. Eventviewer shows nothing and no programs have any sounds set so it is a bios beep, but what does it mean ?
The hardware manual says that 5 beeps means system board, but the PC seems to be running smoothly with no random crashes, so ???
Does anyone have an idea ?
    Thanks

    Hello,
Could the beeping be from another program which is running at startup, such as an accessibility program or a security program?

  • Pan & zoom overlay will not pan until after user has zoomed in or out

I've been trying to lay out a large table of data so that when you first see the page, it's zoomed right out.  It's just an imported png image, with its own frame defining over what area of the screen it should be visible, and then set to pan & zoom mode using the overlay creator).
In this initial state, the width of the image matches that of the frame; only the  bottom part of the image is hidden by being outside the frame.
So it needs to be able to pan at any time regardless of the zoom level, so that a user can see all the content.  But what's happening is that it refuses to respond to any swipe (i.e. pan) gestures until you have first zoomed in or out to some extent.  Once you've done that the panning works perfectly in all directions.
I've experimented with different aspect ratios & relative sizes of the content & the frame, but the same thing always happens, so this seems to be deliberate.  Does anyone know of any workarounds, or any options in the viewer builder (which we don't yet have) that might fix this?

I think this has to do with the fact that you have to "activate" the interactive overlay with a single tap. After that you can pinch and zoom. Before that, even a swipe is not possible.
That is different for the action "Pan only", wich is automatically activated.
I hope this will get fixed in the future. We need the autoplay option even for Pan & Zoom for instant access to that interactive overlay.

  • Firefox constantly being unable to open after it has been closed and requires a machine restart

I have used all of the solutions published and consistently find that I close Firefox, go to reopen it and I get the two standard messages:
Firefox is already running, but is not responding. The old Firefox process must be closed to open a new window.
    Then:
Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible.
Task manager cannot close the application
the application is not visible in any session
I have followed all the posted solutions
I have uninstalled Firefox, shut down, rebooted. shut down again, rebooted, then downloaded a fresh copy of Firefox, run updates, got the messages that says it is fully up to date, and I am still encountering the problem.
After three days of tackling the issue and countless hours, I'm ready to move to another browser, but do not want to.

Typically when we see the 'Firefox Process' refusing to close the issue is with a misbehaving plugin, add-on, or toolbar component. I will post a link to the Mozilla Knowledge Base about creating a test profile:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
Follow the instructions on that page to create a brand new profile for your browser, we will use this to confirm the source of the issues you are having. Use this new profile to browse briefly, then close Firefox and confirm if the issue is still giving you trouble. With the new profile the Firefox Process should end without any issues.
If this new profile is not having issues, then your problem is most likely with one or more plugins or add-ons installed on your original user profile. If you find that the new profile has fixed your issues, then you can follow the steps labelled under "Removing a profile" to delete the files that were causing issues with your browser. Removing a profile can permanently delete files, so make sure to confirm that the new profile has solved all of your issues before removing a previous profile.

  • Keep a vi open after an event is finished...

    Hi all,
I've got a problem with the event structure. I have a very simple vi with just three cases. This vi should be an overview where I can go to the different subvis. If these subvis are closed I want to return to the vi with the event structure. Therefore I first made a while loop, but this was always running and causing a cpu usage of 100%. So I tried the event structure and it worked quite good. The problem is now that if I press the button the subvi opens, but the event structure stops running. So if I go back tpo that vi it not running any more. I wanted to tell the event structure that after opening an event it should wait for the next event. But I don't know how to do that. Thx for your help...
    Greets Thomas

    Hi Thomas,
like PauloM said, you have to use a while loop around your cases.
To prevent of 100% cpu usage you have to place a "wait until next ms multiple" (or another wait block) inside the loop and connect a constant with a value of 100 (for 100ms for example).
If you run a while loop without a wait block, the cpu tries to run this loop as often as it could.
To understand better you can look at the while loop examples.

  • Oracle.exe keeps locking a file after connection has been closed.

    Hi,
I've written a windows service in .net that monitors a directory for new uploaded files that need to be synchronized with the database. When it detects a new file it moves the file to a another directory from which oracle can reach the file. When the file is moved. I open a connection with the database that performs a select * ... on the external table which reads the file. This all works like a charm and afterwards i dispose of the connection.
Then i try to move the file again to another directory because it has been processed, but then i got an System.IO.IOException because the file is locked by a process. When i check by which process it is oracle.exe and the lock stays untill i terminate my service. When i debug the service i double checked and the connection state is closed before i try to move it again. For some reason oracle.exe locks the file untill i kill the service that opened the connection.
If i need to give more specific information please ask, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Pieter

Do you see the same behavior is you select * from sqlplus instead of the odp app, but don't disconnect the sqlplus session?
ODP has pooling on by default, so even though you close and dispose the connection, the underlying hard connection stays open.
I dont know if there's a way to unlock the file without disconnecting which may be the ideal solution, but if not you could probably just disable connection pooling (set pooling=false in the connect string) to get around it.
    Hope it helps,
    Greg

I have three desk tops open on Mission Control, plus dash board. If I leave the computer and come back later and go to the desk top there is nothing there. • Alarm reminder keeps on appearing months after event has been deleted...!!!

Can anyone help me? I have got a reminder from 11th November 2005 that keeps on popping up on my screen, even though I have cancelled it months ago.
When I hit the cancel button, the reminder disappears, but will then re-appear 24 hours later. This happens every day.
If I hit the magnifying glass button, to take me to the event itself, then iCal comes to the front, but the date it highlights is 24th November 2005, NOT 11th.
And when I look at the events on the 11th, the one I am reminded about is not even there. I deleted it in the hope that the reminder would stop nagging me.
Curiously enough, even though I have all my iCal events and reminders synced up with my phone, this reminder does NOT appear on my phone, even though all other events do - even past events that I have set to remind me at a later date.
How can I get rid of this reminder once and for all, but still keep the rest of my events and reminders intact? ie: I don't want to clear everything and start again.

Yes - the necessary information is stored in the various ics files. But if in doubt, drag them to the desktop rather than deleting them - you can always put them back. I am not sure if this will solve the problem, but it seems a good place to start. If it doesn't work, we'll have to go digging in the calendar files. It could of course be related to syncing - I reckon most of the world's problems are

A menu usually shows all options, even those that are for some reason disabled. When clicking on a disabled option, nothing should happen. Clicking on both the shortcut and file in iTunes folder does nothing. I unistalled iTunes and reinstalled it but the issue hasn't gone away. A virus scan has come up with nothing. I would appreciate any ideas that might help to fix this issue.

Having the same problem - am running Win 7 Pro 32 bit. Discovered that when you close iTunes task manager shows that iTunes.exe is still running and will not close unless you reboot. I have also found that after starting Win 7 that if I launch iTunes by inserting a CD, the CD plays and displays all tracks correctly. However, if I eject the CD and insert a different one neither Win 7 or iTunes recognises the CD. These problems seem to have started with the release of 10.5.2 - prior to that no problems at all. Have tried reinstalling and it does not make any difference.
