Post 1.3.5 issues: App Installation problem - Restart Required (endless loop)

OK, so I've upgraded to 1.3.5 and that went well. The problem now is that I can't install ANY application from the App Catalog. Every time I attempt to install something the install fails and I get a message "Restart Required" to which I respond "YES" and the device restarts (looks like a luna restart, not a full restart). However, I still can't install anything since I keep getting the same message.
Anyone else seeing this? I'm attempting a full restart now (still in progress as of this post).

The looping "Restart Required" message is apparently the result of having some Homebrew apps installed that don't quite have everything Palm expects. The process which is trying to move your apps to their new home barfs and gives up. When you try to install a new app, it trys again (with the same result).
The fix is to download the latest Preware and run something called the Emergency Migration Helper. This "fixes" the Homebrew app installs so that the Palm migration process can succeed. I assume you could also try removing all Homebrew apps, but the Prebrew EMH fix is much easier IMO.

Resizing Issues (app - applet conversion problems)

Hi I have recently converted an application which was completed and fully functional to an applet. The only problem I am experiencing is with the resizing of some buttons whose labels get manipulated during the course of running the program/applet. Basically there are a couple of buttons that start empty and when text gets added to them they dont re-size, they just stay thin, so you can barely read the label. Can I stress again that this was not an issue before some small modifications that allow the program to be ran as both an app and an applet. If you resize the window even slightly during execution then the buttons jump to the desired size, but that obviously isnt satisfactory behavior, they need to appear properly without any re-sizing of the window.
The code is kind of complicated, but if anyone needs to see it to help, then let me know, im using borderlayout.

When you add the text to the buttons try to force the layout of the container to be reevaluated by using the method invalidate (or is it validate, can't remember).
Another workaround would be to have the original text of the button to be a string of blanks so that the button is bigger from the start.
You can also use the method setPreferredSize on the button to set it to a fixed size no matter what the text in it is.

ADF 11g - Deployed app (WLS 10.3) fall into endless loop

My application runs just fine in the embedded WLS in JDeveloper 11. But when deployed to standalone WLS, the application is suddenly fall into endless redirect loop.
I tried to put out any filter that might cause the problem, including JpsFilter to no result.
The console output when a request came in is as shown in http://pastebin.com/f60edd84d . The last line of the log is when firefox detected an endless redirect loop and decided to halt.
Server log shows repeated entry of:

I wanted to mention, when it occurs while rendering the page (as can be seen from the stack traces) that its occurring when rendering a tag. Here is one of the tags in my JSP page, specifically one where I think it could be hanging. Does anyone see anything fishy? This tag is an Oracle ADF tag and the "param" variable is a local loop variable. I jus recently added the " || !financialBean.profitAssistant.paDataEditable" part but I don't know if thats the cause of the problem. This does not occur everytime, it just seems like when there is a good amount of load on the system.

Avoiding rejection with a Single Issue app

Hi there,
We are up against a wall with the digital edition of a book that is about to be released in print unable to be approved by Apple because it presents features that are able to be replicated in the iBookstore.
Quite disappointing for us as we have been publishing on DPS for 18 months now and would rather use the toolset we know and pay for than spend time wrestling with a new workflow. However, it is easy to see why Apple has taken the stance.
As I see it, we have three ways to move forward, but I am looking for insight from the community on whether any of these seems especially prone to success:
1. Appeal to Apple with a list of similar apps that have been published recently. While this would be our easiest route, it seems to me to be the least likely to bear fruit. Apple has said outright that what's in the store is not an indiication of the current approval policies, so I don't see this one working out. I think Bob Levine had success with this, but it seems like a gamble to me.
2. Add features to the app that differentiate it from an iBook. One post somewhere in these forums suggested adding web-enabled content like an online survey or some social media interation using Web Overlays or HTML Stacks. My fear is that I don't have a great feel for the limitations of the iBook platform (EPUB3-esque) that I can say for certain what would differentiate us. Does anyone have any examples that show off iBooks being pushed to the limit?
3. Our last resort, and one that I know next to nothing about, is to convert the title to the iBookstore just as Apple is suggesting. This would mean throwing out the app approach and leaving DPS behind and takes us into very unfamiliar territory. Am I right in thinking that going the EPUB route would essentially mean starting over when it comes to things like videos and slideshows?

We have not utilized pich and zoom images (just pages) or scrollable frames in this book, though we have used MSOs to create slideshows but not to leverage customized functionality.
So far, we have used movies and slideshows, which are arguably quite tame. We shyed away from scrolling frames due to reports of poor performance on the New iPad.
After some brainstorming with our team, we have begun to explore the possibility of re-cooking the app as a multi-issue app (we already have DPS Pro for our magazine) and then using it as an umbrella app for a series of same-category apps we are working on right now.
I've been able to uncover a few other apps doing the same thing in the app store now. Do you know anyone using DPS to create their own bookshelf right now?

Multi-issue app with subscription not show any issue of the magazine

I recently migrated my magazine from multi-issue app to multi-issue with itunes subscription app. I want to publish my magazine into the newsstand with free subscription.
If I install on my ipad the .ipa I see all the issue published in the last year and a half. I can subscribe the free subscription and all working properly.
When Apple store approve the app they told me that no magazine appears in my app (and the screenshoot they attached me confirm this).
I can't understand what could have happened.
On the development ipad was previously installed the normal version of the app (with no subscription). Is this a problem?

I agree with poorxperiaplay here. The problem is directly related to all Google services not just Gtalk, thats why Gmail doesn't sync right, nor does the calendar, nor does it work right when you pick out an app on the Google Play web site on your PC and try to install from there. It never live syncs with the server.
You can't just take out features like that because you broke them and then say sorry. People rely on the Google services, its why we bought an Android Phone! Not only that, ALL other versions of the Xperia Play, R800i, R800a, R800at, all run 2.3.4 official from Sony successfully. Verizon modifies it for roll out to their phones, to add their software, which means your product team broke it, and they aren't spending the time to fix it.
And yes the facebook application does not sync properly or even work properly on 3G either. The sync issue has been a problem from day 1. The web site on the phone works fine.
These are major issues that are fundamental to all R800x phones. This needs to be fixed, immediately.

It is asking if you want to delete all the iCloud contacts off your Mac (not in iCloud).
Delete them. If you keep them you will have duplicates when you turn it back on. You will have the copy you kept and another copy when they resync with iCloud

Follow those instructions and you should be ok. When you connect to the PC make sure you don't sync with itunes or it will wipe the ipod clean, just put it in disk mode and then follow those steps.

Newsstand for single issue app?

I am doing a monthly magazine for the iPad with the Adobe DPS Single Edition that comes with the Creative Cloud. That means I can only do single-issue apps (1 issue in the app) and I cannot do multi-issue apps (several issues in 1 app). My client is not willing to pay the "expensive" Adobe DPS Professional Fee of 3600 euros per year what is understandable as my client is a middle-sized publisher. So far, I've always brought the latest magazine issue on the App Store via an app update (version 1.1, version 1.2, version 1.3 etc.). However, the problem here is that I have to wait for that app update to be reviewed and approved by Apple. In the past 6 months, that has usually taken 3 to 4 days. Now, it's already been taking 7 days and the current magazine issue is very time sensitive and my client is quite upset about that (understandably).
So I was thinking of changing the app into an app that appears in the Newsstand. However, I read that Newsstand does not support single-issue apps which makes sense to a certain extent. But I am desperately trying to find an alternate solution for my dilemma as I really want to prevent the waiting time for an app to be reviewed/approved. I've already called iTunes Connect in the US to discuss the whole thing through and they said that automatic background downloads (like I need them for my magazine app) are ONLY possible with a Newsstand app.
I'm really stuck with my problem. Can somebody please give me a helping hand here as this is really a serious issue?

Short of paying for a pro or enterprise account there is nothing you can do.
You can check out alternate provider but you'll find that while some may be
less expensive there's no free way to handle this.

Updating a MULTI-ISSUE APP to a MULTI-ISSUE SUBSCRIPTION app

If I create a multi-issue app, where the customer just puchases each new folio/issue, can I update that specific app to a multi-issue with iTunes subcription at some point in the future?
Basically, our publication isn't ready for a subscription model yet but it will be early next year. We want our app to be able to offer a subscription once it is avilable without the customer having to download a new version of the app.
I assume the workflow would be:
- submit multi issue viewer app with app description/screenshots specified in iTunes Connect. That gets approved, goes live and runs as required.
- a month later, we want to introduce a subscription model.
- I build a multi-issue with iTunes subscription app, update my app description, version and add subs details in iTunes connect and submit that to Apple. That gets approved and the app is updated, now offering a subscription.

Yes, you can convert a multi-issue app to a subscription app. A subscription app requires push notifications, so you'll make it easier on yourself to add push.
When you first submit your app, you may want to submit as many in app purchases as you can for pre-approval.
When you create your App ID, turn off iCloud.
When you're ready to make the app a subscription app, create your auto renewable subscription durations in iTunes Connect. You'll need to submit a new app version when you submit the in app purchases. In Viewer Builder, create a new viewer -- you can't edit the old viewer.

See if either of these two things help.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then try to update again.

HP Photosmart C7280 All in One installation problems with windows 8.1

I have a HP Photosmart C7280 All in One printer which was working fine on wifi with Windows 8. A few days ago I got the prompt to upgrade to 8.1. Following this the printer would not work at all, and I got prompt/warning message to re-install the printer software. So I went to the control panel and removed all the old HP software, and tried to re-install the latest one from the HP site...to no avail.
I have tried doing this a number of ways - manual download, downloading the HP software that determines what software is required, then downloads it for you....
It seems to start unpacking ok, but then gets stuck on 'Checking System' and never progresses to do anything else. Help!
