It can take a while for your homehub to be opted out. Some people have tried opting in and then out again and this has helped.
I will give it another couple of days and see what happens.
I suppose opting in and then out again resets any counter in the BT software.
Thanks

I doubt that BT would be swayed by that. This is what the residential broadband T&C say:

  • BTWiFi-with-FON Slow/Not Working

I've been paying to use BTWiFi-with-Fon for the past month now and sometimes I don't mind paying as I get quick connection but a lot of the time I won't even be able to connect or the connection is seriously slow. I don't have a hub in my house or anything I pick up a strong signal near by. I was wondering if anyone knows what the problem is and if there is anything I can do about it?
Thanks for any help you can give, Michael

if you are picking up the btwifi from someone else's hub then it may be that they are downloading/uploading and will have preference to you and could max out their connection speed leaving you with a disconnection
if that is the case then there is nothing you can do about it as hub owner has priority

  • Can I use BTWiFi-with-FON free of charge while wai...

    Hi,
I am currently with TalkTalk but looking to come to BT because of the woeful service I got from them and I have a question I need answered before I make the switch.
When I go to process my order my earliest date for an engineer to come to my home is around 4 weeks from now which means I won't have internet access during that time, but I noticed today I am in a BTWiFi-with-FON hotspot which is universally free for all BT members (I believe). Would I be able to benefit from this service as soon as I make my order? And not have to wait for an engineer to come out before I have any internet access at all?
Surely when I click confirm and I have a username and password I am considered a member and should have access to use these hotspots like any other ordinary member...?
I tried calling your customer service lines but they had no clue what I was talking about so figured I would try here.
    Thanks.

  • Changing Email address for BTWiFi-with-FON

Is it possible to change the username/email address for logging in to BTWiFi-with-FON as the btinternet.com email address I got lumbered with is very long (29 characters) and awkward to key in on a smartphone?
    Solved!

Keep the phone's Wifi switched off until you actively want to use it. That will probably save on battery usage as well.
Thanks for the idea, but unfortunately that would not help as I use it on the WiFi at home quite a lot, especially when I have the PC switched off.
Sorry, I got the wrong end of the stick. You need to set the phone to prioritise wifi connections, but I don't know the procedure for iPhone as I have Android. You could try simply deleting BT WiFi from the list of connections to see if it gets a lower priority next time you connect to it.

  • BTWIFI-with-FON no internet connection!!!

Hello. When i try to connect to BT its say "no internet connection" and won't even bring up the homepage where you put in your username and password.I bought bt-wifi for month, first 2 days it was okey, then it isn't worked for 2 days and showed no internet connection, at the day 3 it worked some 5 hours and again not working second day.
I search for some issue, but nothing found to fix my problem..
    Sorry for bad english.

Same BTWiFi connection problem with me.
I purchased 1 month access, but connection with BTWiFi(London, Ilford IG3) is terrible.
I am trying all possible BT WiFi networks (screenshot is attached ), but rarely connection happens from the first 5 attempts.
Either it is no connection - timeout or after few min. I am getting message: «WiFi has the self-assigned IP address 169.х.х.х and will not be able to connect to the internet.»
    Mac OS X 10.8.5 | iMac 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 | 20 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
If I am lucky and get connected, service disconnects pretty soon – 15 min., 45 min.
    Any tips, suggestions?
    Cheers, Egils

  • Wi-Fi with FON total confusion

    Hello everyone.
I joined BT Infinity from another provider last Thursday and got a HomeHub 5. I was surprised to find that 2 new networks appeared. One was BTHub5-XXXX and the other BTwifi-with-FON.
After checking I find that my Homehub is acting as a public wifi hot spot. I have been in touch with BT technical help 3 times and they assure me that my Homehub is switched off for public use bit I can still connect through "with FON and it is still there.
All I want is to get rid of it completely...................... but how!

Have a look at this thread.
    https://community.bt.com/t5/Other-Broadband-Queries/BT-Home-Hub-5-and-FON/td-p/1086830
BTWifi uses very little of your bandwidth and if you require the bandwidth it is to the detriment of any BTWifi user. The BTWifi is a separate network from your home network which can not be accessed by BTWifi users who for accountability have to sign on to use it.
    See links about it.

    http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=30549&s_cid=con_FURL_...
This may not apply to you if you have no intention of using it but one thing to keep in mind is that if you stay opted in to BTWifi you can use free hotspots when out and about which obviously you won't be able to if you opt out.

I had an online chat with a BT Broadband help person, who said she wasn't trained on Openzone and gave me a number to call, where I got a recorded message saying that the BT wi-fi network had "issues". A few hours later the problems disappeared and today everything's fine. So who knows.
Regarding Ts and Cs, if Openzone is bundled with your Total Broadband package there's no volume or time limit, you just have to log in every 30 mins if you go over 10,000 minutes in any given month.  Large files are positively encouraged: "Is there a download limit? No. Wireless broadband is perfect for uploading or downloading large files at high speed. Usage is based on time rather than data transfer amount." From https://www.btopenzone.com/help/common-questions/index.jsp#using_8  I'm downloading 50GB+ files via P2P. But perhaps the BT network sees them as lots of small files, as P2P works by chopping them into little bits.
The Openzone Fair Use policy only applies if you buy an Openzone subscription separately. In which case P2P, large files and a 3GB+ monthly volume are "inappropriate". http://www.btopenzone.com/terms-and-conditions/fair-usage-policy.jsp
DS, what did you mean by clearing the connection history? Sounds interesting. Do you mean removing the profile from the Manage Wireless Networks screen?

You are using an unencrypted wireless service so anyone else connected to the same hotspot could intercept your traffic.
BT offer a Cisco VPN for this very reason - http://www.btwifi.co.uk/help/security/vpn-software.jsp
You must be connected to a BT hotspot to download it but I have not been able to get it working on iPhone/iPad.
I have started using OpenVPN which is significantly more difficult to implement but works well and is extremely secure.
The other option is to use a router with a VPN endpoint built-in such as a Draytek or certain others using the DD-WRT or Tomato open-source firmwares and connect to that when out and about.

I am a new beginner to BT and feel like i am going round in circles.  There were a few problems with Plusnet of whom i used to be with.  Some of us older people were not born with a coumputer mouse in our hand when we popped out. I hate comments such as its not rocket science and many others, what are they trying to do put people off becing a BT Customer@
I can recieve emails any amount of managers at BT but cant reply to their emails trying to sort out the problems i am having trying to log in to my account.
I recieved my username and password but they dont work.
There are a few questions i would like to ask such as adding 1471 or 1571 to my account?
How do i block unwanted phone calls from insurance firms such as PPI?
How do i help afriend to update his email details?

Yea, in my honest opinion the wireless on the HH3 is not the greatest at all, the channel switching for me causes problems which causes my external devices to lose connection for a few seconds at times.
Is there no way you could just try it? even for long a game or so just to rule out any possibilites? Also, since your at the other end of your house, that is also a problem even when your powerline adaptors.

Ok..So you mean still cannot accessing the website with Internet connection? Try to use nslookup in command prompt to check whether can resolve domain name correctly. Also make sure you can ping the router's LAN IP from computer.
If not, you can try to use the following DNS servers from OpenDNS.com:
    208.67.220.220
    208.67.222.222

  • BTwifi or FON connection problem

I've been using BTwifi or FON outside of my home for about a year. Connection was absolutely fine but recently I moved house using with BT new contract but using same email account. last few months was alright but recently I got problem that my phone has been connected with BTwifi or Fon but need to wait a long time for connection. Most of the time fail to connection. There was no problem for a year in a same location I used to connection but why I've login problem now a days? Any one help??? Please????/

If you're trying to connect to a particular home hub hotspot, there could be a number of reasons for failure as it depends on the hub being turned on, the signal being strong enough, the owner not using their broadband heavily, etc. Have you tried elsewhere?

  • BT wifi & BT Wifi with Fon connection issue

in the last 5 days I've had  issues connecting to BT Wifi and BT Wifi with Fon. I'm connecting using an iPhone and iPad so when I use the BT Wifi app for logging in it constantly says check details (which are correct) and then it will connect but then log off and won't connect for ages. It will sometimes connect one device but not the other.
When I try connect using the browser page I get a message ' maximum number of sessions reached'.
Has anyone any idea what causes this, what it means and a possible solution?
ps I tried email BT but they don't seem to care as i've not received a reply,  thanks BT

    Hi Gioabb,
    Welcome to the forum.
Can I just check, is this problem happening with several hotspots or just the one?
