I know. I actually passed an OpenReach van 500 meteres from my house today. Stopped and asked if there was any way, at all, the guy could help me out or check on the status of the BT marked manhole cover outside my house (<1 min away). Was told 'Sorry, not my job, can't help you, I'm here to sort out another property and I'm lost'. I said I fully appreciated he had other work, but was there any chance he could take just 5 mins to help me out. I was told 'no way, not my area, sorry'. Said that OpenReach would need to commission a 'survey' of my property to sort this out. Frankly, he couldn't get out of there quick enough.
Sad thing is, my neighbour had an Engineer out (as I was promised by BT) and it was all sorted in a few minutes and was simply activating a connection in the exchange box (or whatever it is) outside my house.
Crazy thing, is they will just end up sending another OpenReach van out to sort this out. At some point. Maybe.
As you say . . . OpenReach just do what they want. I don't blame this guy specifically, but it would be nice if he took a second out to help everyone out.
BT call centre, meanwhile, just helplessly say that they can't tell me any more for 36 hours.

  • How do you get a new line in a description of an iCal event?

    I need to be able to create multiple lines in a description of an iCal event.  In the past, I used control return to get a new line.  In Mountain Lion, this does not show up as a new line, once the event has been saved.  It merges all of the text onto one line and creates new lines as the space dictates.  How can I force new lines in the event description between the words that I have chosen?

    I'm interested too.
    Please help, I had own method to management  iCal's event – new line, of 10.7 worked great – now is a little terrible for me :/

  • New line connected today, someone else also gaven ...

    Hi today my new line was connected, i then recieved a call from a random person telling me this was meant to be their number today, they say they got the letter saying the same numb as mine, now he says he has gaven this numb out to his patients as he is a doctor.
    Can someone please explain to me how BT have managed to screw this new cnnection up so badly?
    I called BT they say theres no record of them issuing this number to anyone else!!!
    What a complete joke this is, can't even connect a line up without screwing up.
    BT if your reading this, I demand an answer right now!

    Hi madevo,
    When a landline order is placed a temporary number is allocated, but it's never guaranteed as it can change once the service is "live", and I'm guessing the caller was allocated the number in question when they originally ordered the service.
    Customers should never give out the temporary numbers as they cannot be guaranteed, but by the sound of this the caller wasn't advised of this.
    For some reason the number must have become spare (possibly because there was a problem with the original order) and when your line was activated the number in question was then given to you (numbers are allocated from a general “pool”, and the first available is given).
    I don’t have any way of knowing how the number became spare from the doctor’s order, however as the number would have been temporary against his order, then become spare and it's now live against your account we wouldn't have a way of tracing it back to the doctor's order.
    This is also assuming the doctor ordered the service with BT. if they ordered with a different provider we wouldn't be able to access the account at all - even if we had their account number - as it would be on another service provider's database.
    I am sorry you were called up about this, and if you'd like me to check your order to make sure everything went ahead as it should have do drop me an email at [email protected]
    Thanks,
    Stephanie

    You may have simply run out of database connections. Check to see how many your DB allows, and see how many are in use when you start getting this.

  • Trouble getting my phone line connected

    My saga to date....
    I contacted BT on 20th April to advise them that I was moving home on 29th April (to a newly built house).  An engineer was arranged to come to my home on 10th May to carry out the connection.  Prior to the 10th May, I had a visit from an engineer to assess the job.  My house has been built in an older part of a village which still relies on telephone poles and lines going from the poles in to houses.  During one of these visits, it was noted that I would need a pole placed in my garden to connect the line to, then the line would be connected from there.  The reason behind this was due to the fact that my house is built low down, and to take a wire straight from the main pole would make it slope too low.  I was quite happy with the solution put forward, and was happy that things seemed to be in hand.  At no point was I told that the work would not go ahead on the 10th May.
    This is when the problems start.......
    I feel that I am living in the dark ages again.  I have no phone line, hence no Internet access and do not get a mobile signal in the area I now live in!  I rely on travelling to my daughters' house to use their phone and Internet access, which is not convenient.
    The 10th of May came and went, and nobody appeared at the house, and I received no communication that work would not be carried out on this date.  I phoned BT, and yes, I was talking to a call centre in India.  When the operator finally grasped the issue that the engineer had not appeared she checked with her suppliers to inform me that there was a problem and that this would be assessed by the 14th May.  BT would then advise me on the 15th what the next stage would be.  Unhappy with this, I was eventually put through to the supervisor (waited 40 minutes on hold!).  Got no joy from him, but the promise he would personally contact me on 15th.  I had to accept this and hung up.
    On Monday 13th May, I went online to check the progress of my order, only to note that my latest BT bill was ready.  When I checked the bill, I noted that BT had started to bill me for my phone and broadband package from 10th May!.  Blood pressure steadily rising, I contacted BTs billing department, yes once again an Indian call centre, to complain.  Got the standard script from the operator - very sorry etc. During this conversation, it was realised that BT had the wrong postcode in for my house (it was the correct street, but the post code for odd numbered houses). The operator, against my pleas not to do so, cancelled my order, and set up a new order for the correct postcode. She assured me that she knew what she was doing and not to worry, everything would be fine (I had explained the saga to date to her).  She set up a brand new account, allocating a different phone number, and requiring me to set up new direct debits - I'm not sure how she couldn't just change the postcode for my original account.  A new connection appointment was for 21st May, and I was assured that there would be no problems I would be connected on this date.
    The 15th of May came and went, and no phone call from the Indian call centre manager.  I did not call back at this time, as a new appointment had been scheduled.
    The 21st came, and an engineer did appear - hooray! He looked at the house and told me - I cannot do your connection.  A pole is needed to run a the line to.  He was able to tell me that my number had been set up in the exchange.  I was more than a little angry and frustrated at this point.  BT knew that a pole was required back on 6th May - why had this information not been dealt with!
    Again I phoned BT, back to the Indian call centre.  Explained the whole saga.  He checked with his 'suppliers' to find out what was going on.  Came back to tell me that further information would be available the next day.  I was getting a little annoyed at the point.  I explained that the work required was to erect a pole in my garden to run the line to.  All I wanted was a date for when this work would be carried out.  He could not give me this info saying his suppliers would not give this until the next day.  I asked who the suppliers were - BT Open Reach, but he would not let me speak to them directly.  He promised to phone me back the following day with the update - probably to get me off the phone.   I again explained that I had no means to which he could contact me in my own home, and would require to go to my daughters house to receive the call.  He agreed to phone me back at 10am on 22nd May - a time when I would go to my daughters.  Yes, once again they failed to phone back!!
    I again phoned back - yes back to India I went.  Asked to speak with the manager - but the operator would not connect me saying he could help.  Went through the saga once more - again got the text book apologies (which are getting rather annoying now).  He contacted the 'suppliers' and promised that contact would be made with me within 24hours by the engineer with regards to the work being carried out.  I told him that I had been lied to on so many occasions that I didn't believe that this was the case and asked to speak to BT Openreach to confirm this.  He stated that this could not be done.  Trust him, why would he lie to me  - which I told him would be to get me off the phone.  I left my daughters phone number as a contact.
    24hours has now passed, and yes - once again no contact.  I cannot face talking to another operator in an Indian call centre who will tell me anything to get off the phone.  BT's complaints procedure is pathetic.  I feel totally helpless in this.  There doesn't seem to be any communication between anyone in the company.  The call centre staff are telling you anything just to get rid of you.  I suspect that I am now being billed on 2 accounts for a service I don't have, and no doubt will be another saga when I eventually get a working phone line.
    I am no further forward to when this work will be getting carried out, and getting more and more frustrated.  Is there any suggestions on where / who I can go to.

  • New line connection question

    I am currently in the process of moving my exisiting line and broadband over from Sky to BT.
    My current line is connected directly to an exchange which is over 5km away, resulting in very poor and very slow broadband. Even through streets right next to mine have infinity!
    As my current line is an exchange only line (EO) I am not going to be able to get any sort of high speed broadband at any time in the near or distant future
    Hence my question...
    If i request to have a 2nd line installed at my property, is there any way that this line could be connected to a local street cabinet (three within a stones throw of my house) so that I could then get infinity.
    Many thanks

    It all depends on the current line plant.
    If there are spare cables coming from the exchange via the same route your line takes, you'd be connected to one of them. if there are no spare pairs then OR MIGHT connect you to a cab but it's a very long shot.
    There's no way to request this when the order is placed either.

  • Over 6 Weeks to get a new BT line installed...even...

    Hi
    I moved into a new flat a few weeks back and wanted to get broadband setup through the BT line that was installed there, i rang BT and gave them the working phone number that was in the flat, they advised me that i could go ahead and use that existing line/number and could go ahead and setup broadband on it (in my case through O2) which i did....
    However, a few days later O2 informed me that they had been contacted by BT who told them my phone line was to be cancelled...i found this strange as only days earlier they said i could use it, so i rang them up and they said as that phone line was in the name of the previous occupier (nice of them to tell me!) i would have to get a new line setup which would cost £127, i reluctantly agreed especially when they told me the earliest date a new line could be installed would be the 25th of January 2011 (i placed the order on the 9th of December....) due to the openreach engineers being "busy"...
    Is there any anything i can do to speed this up?? As i can't get broadband at my property through any other method apart from using a BT PSTN line and getting an ISP to setup ADSL on that line
    The main thing i don't understand is the fact a working BT line was active at the property up until the 8th of December, so i don't see why an openreach engineer has to be involved at all, surely its just a logical switch change at the exchange using the existing physical lines
    I'm just wondering if anyone can give me any advice on this as i can't really wait that long to get the line in, as i rely on working from home and using a reasonably fast broadband connection
    Many Thanks
    Darren

    Its taking 6 weeks for them to get round to installing my line too. Seems like a widespread problem - plenty of people complaining about similar delays on this message board e.g.
    http://community.bt.com/t5/Phones/Installation-of-new-line-not-possible-until-the-13th-of-January/td...
    I think this is appaling.
    When I spoke to O2 to ask about it - the guy I spoke to said that they had been having this issue for months now. He pushed me in the direction of complaining directly to BT - but BT Openreach seem to claim that all complaints must go via your individual provider (i.e. they don't deal with the public)! Normally I would agree with interaction with the direct provider, but it isn't like they have a choice in which company they use to provision the line - BT Openreach is the problem!
    I will echo the request of the original poster: how do we speed this process up?! Failing that - is contacting Ofcom the best way to note the poor performance of BT Openreach?

  • Told I would get 17mb when I moved and only get 14...

    I was told I would get 17mb speed when I rang up BT about moving home into a different village (my mother gets 18mb so I figured that would be fine since she lives less than 5 minutes walk from my new House) so I get my new line installed ... 14mb since the 6th of august so I rang BT because in the email I got it says ring if you don't get the speed we quoted you. After 30 minutes of speed tests and telling me to move my router away from everything else it will be okay. It's not because I login to my router and my downstream is still 14mb not the mention my router is in a room on its own with a phone that is it its not anything to do with interference as I'm told. My problem is I was told 17mb and I get £14 for £30 a month.
    What can I do about this ?

  • Tab And New Line in XML data

    I have a formatted text which I store as a text node. By default the new line char's are converted into white spaces. I read elsewhere on this forum, that we should use the charecter entity reference equivalent &#A; for new line. I did not understand this idea clearly, so I tried this out:
    In my formatted string, I replaced all instances of '\n' with '&#A;'. I create my text node as follows:
    script.replaceAll("\n","&#A;");
    scriptElement = document.createTextNode(script);
    As expected when the XML is written the &#A10; is further encoded into "&#A10". And when I read back my XML from the parser, I get my string back with all the "&#A10;". I again need to do a replace all to get the new line charecters back.
    My question is : Is there any other standard solution to this problem or the bottom line is to replace the new line and tabs with "MUMBOJUMBO" or a standard charecter entity ref and look for the same while reading back.
    Is there anyway I could tell my XMLwriter to convert '\n' into "&#A;" and get back '\n' when I parse the XML?

    by default, all white spaces collapse: http://www.w3.org/TR/xsl/slice7.html#white-space-collapse
    you can use xml:space="preserve" in your XML elements (tags) or
    you can use <fo:block white-space-collapse="false" linefeed-treatment="preserve"> in XSL if you use XSL to format the XML.

  • New line character when writing to a file

    Hi,
    I am relatively new to the whole logging aspect in JDK1.4, so this is all what I am trying to do. I have setup a logger , using the standard FIleHandler. This handler is using a custom formatter which I have written.
    My formatter is very simple and the method format returns
    public String format(LogRecord record)
    "LogRecord info: \n" +
              "Level: " + record.getLevel() + '\n' +
              "SourceClassName: " + record.getSourceClassName()+ '\n' + "SourceMethodName: " + record.getSourceMethodName() + '\n' + "ThreadID: " + record.getThreadID() + '\n';
    now my problem is that the File that all this gets written into does not get these new line characters, instead it has a weird symbol. I guess the \n is not being recognised correctly.
    Does anyone know how to fix this.
    Thanks in advance
    Parul

    sorry about that.. I fixed it, I just used System.getProperty("line.separator");

  • Distinctive ring vs. new line vs. adding VOIP service like Vonage or Ooma

    I'm currently a FIOS/phone (double play) customer.   I need an additional phone number and am considering my options (getting a new line put in, signing up for a new VOIP service like VOnage, going cheap & just getting distinctive ring), trying to understand everything and weigh the costs/functionality/gotchas.
    "Distinctive Ring" is a new option I just learned about, and it seems the easiest, and definitely the cheapest (around $5 extra a month).   However it also seems the most limited and there are a few things I don't understand for 100%.
    If anyone can answer any of these questions I'd appreciate it:
    - Can you setup SEPERATE voicemail greetings for the existing landline vs. the new "distinctive" ring number?  Or would everyone calling hear the same greeting?
    - If only same outgoing message can be used, then I assume that each number uses the same voicemailbox, but can you setup different mailboxes for each line in a different way, like having your outgoing message say "Press 1 to leave message for Herman or press 2 to leave message for Granpa", thus create at least quasi-seperate voicemailboxes based on who the person was trying to call?  And if so, how?
    - As I understand it not all phones support "distinctive ring" - so how can I findout which of my existing phones do support this (other than signing up for the service then calling myself and seeing how the phones behave)?
    - Is there any way for my callerID boxes to show which # it is that is being called instead of just who is calling?
    - And is this true, that calling out I would only be placing calls from my original line, that for example on callerid of who I am calling, even if pressing callback on my phone and they called my new second #, they would see my original #, not the new one?
    Thanks for any hints.

    Hi, the only tip I can give you is as far as testing if your phone is compatible with distinctive ring you could try one of two things, neither of which are free unfortunately.
    1) Call a number that is busy and then use Repeat Dial (*66) to let you know when the number is free. You will get a special ringback when the number is no longer busy.
    2) Try dialing *61 on your Verizon landline phone. In many states you will reach a feature called either Priority Call or Selective Distinctive Alert. If you add numbers to the list, when those numbers call you there will be different kinds of special rings on your phone.
    Again, there will be charges on your Verizon bill to do either of these. If you use *61, be sure to clear your list and turn off the feature when you are done so you will not incur any further charges.

  • New line in textview?

    Hi all
    How can I start a new line in a textview?
    I tried the following, but it doesn't work:
    me.textview1.text = "firstline" & vbCrLf & "secondline"
    Many thanks!
    Liesbeth

    Hi,
    So the bad news are that since what you write in the text property of the TextView will be rendered to html the vbCrLf will not work, since it has no meaning in html. In fact, you couldn't use "<br>" either, since it will be encoded (to ensure you don't ever "break" it's rendering).
    The good news are that TextView supports Wrapping and a special layout... (Layout="PARAGRAPH" Wrapping="True"). This of course will not ensure you get a new line exactly where you want it, but will still give you "new lines" where needed.
    For having "new lines" exactly where you want them you will probably have to use several TextViews, separated by "<BR>".
    If you want to do this in dynamically, in code, I've come up with a relatively simple solution for you:
    Put a Panel or PlaceHolder (regular ASP) control where you want to have the text View. In your code do this:
    Panel1.Controls.Clear();
    Panel1.Controls.Add(new TextView("Line 1"));
    Panel1.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl("<br>"));
    Panel1.Controls.Add(new TextView("Line 2"));
    Panel1.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl("<br>"));
    Panel1.Controls.Add(new TextView("Line 3"));
    Might not be the best solution, but it will at least have the effect you wanted
    Regards,
    Ofer

  • New line in String

    Hi,
    how can I get a "new line" in a string?
    \n
    and
    <br />
    doesn`t work.
    I tried it with a LANGUAGEINDEPENDENT_SHORT_NAME and a lot of different UI controls(StaticText, InputField etc).

    Alle Mehrzeiligen Datentypen sind, so glaube ich jedenfalls, inkompatibel zu ABSL.
    Webservice unterstützt z.B. Mehrzeiligkeit sofern ein enspr. Typ im BO dafür verwendet wird! z.B. Text
    Um in ABSL Mehrzeiligkeit zu erhalten würde ich mit Ruby ein Dummy Feld mit einen "Return" füllen.
    z.B. $controller.StringUtils.AsciiToChar(int) -> habe ich aber noch nicht getestet.
    Danach könnten die Felder evtl über
    this.multifield = "my 1. text" + this.dummy + "my 2. text";
    gefüllt werden.
