Power factor calculation

we r doing our project in same concept ...we  can  calculate power factor using nielvis ah? and how it is possible?pls reply as asap..thanks in advance

This is a very open question, but in short, you need to measure the phase lead/lag between voltage and current (0° phase lag = Power Factor of 1, etc).  Assuming you're using one phase ~120VAC, you'll need to drop the voltage down with a resistor divider, then sense the current using a low impedance (ex: .01Ω, .1Ω, etc) series current resistor... actual impedance is a function of the current you're pulling: you want the voltage across the resistor under maximum current to be close to (but less than) the maximum input voltage of the analog input channel.  Then you'll need to plug these low voltage measurements into two channels on the Elvis board.  After that, you'll need to acquire the data and then perform your calculations.
In short, yes, it is possible to measure power factor on the ELVIS platform.  Please let us know if you have any specific questions.

    Good Evening 
    No suprises to what im looking to investigate today. 
    I have a initial circuit which contains a AC supply, Resistor and Inductor only, I must calculate the impedance, supply current, power factor & angle, and type of power that is consumed in the circuit. 
    I must then create a modified circuit in which i must improve the power factor to 0.95 and specify the value of capacitance required!
    I must then calculate the impedance, supply current, power factor & angle and the type of power consumed in the circuit. 
    I have never really used multisim before, just want to make sure my calculations are correct as the values I have been given to work with are producing tedious amounts of impedance. My XL=24kOhm 
    I have tried to use the impedometer but not quiet sure how to wire it correctly. Same goes for the watt meter not sure how to wire the terminals for V and I. 
    Appreciate any help and advice I have provided some images of my initial circuit I have not specified the value of C as im not sure what it must be to give me a PF of 0.95.

  • Power factor, reactive, active and apparent power

    Good morning,
    I have a VI that make some math calc and give me the power factor from the system, but when I'm trying to show it in a waveform graph I have some problems.
    First I have to fix the scale: -1 to 1 
    Second that you all know if the values go high than 1 the value has to be negative -0.999 -0.98 
    How could I work on Y axis to change it when I'm trying to show a graph of power factor? I think about use property node to work on Y axis... but maybe have an easier way!
    And also if someone know an easier way to calculate power factor,
    Reactive, Active and Apparent power I would be glad if someone can help me on that!

    This program  was made in LabVIEW 7.1
    I will upload the code but I will tell here more or less what it do.
    You won't be able to run the problem because it's open a file that I have recorded with another program and save a new file.
    To get real power (p) = I took the average of instantaneous power 
    P=V x I
    Apparent power (S) =  Vrms x Irms
    Reactive power (Q) = SQRT (S^2 - P^2)
    Power Factor = P/S
    This is the math, the problem is I need to adjust the graph to power factor
    and we know that power factor goes -1 to 1
    How can I make LabVIEW understand if a value go high than 1 so it's negative? my problem is that!

  • How do I creater a indicator to read power factor

    The problem that I have is not that I can read power factor because our RTU gives me a analog input in numeric fomat for our power factor. I need to know if there is some sort of scaling or indicator ( such as a analog dial type gauge) that can be scaled to read power factor in the below format. We want to see Lag / Lead that mimics our mechanical analog meter at the power plant. Any suggestions?

    Why not just use the dial or guage in the Numeric Controls palette?  You can change the scales easily enough to be a -1 to +1.

  • How to plot power factor as a graph?

    Well guys, I have an array with power factor values and I need to plot this in a graph.
    My problem is because as you know, power factor has positive and negative values so when I plot I need to change my scale to get a better visual.
    I was thinking about:

    0,4
    0,6
    0,8
    1
    -0,8
    -0,6
    -0,4
    -0,2
    0
    Anyone have a graph or a code that make its? Because I already tryed here a lot but never get a good solution

  • Power factor simulation and measurement

    I need to simulate in LabView 7.1 an application that simulates an AC waveform (voltage and current) like if I take them directly from a facility and with this info calculate the Power Factor, Reactive, Active and Apparent power. all this for a single and three phase system.
    I have little experience on Labview and all help will be appreciate it.

  • How to measure power factor in FPGA

    Hello,
    I am acquiring analog signals of 50 Hz frequency using NI 9215 and cRIO 9073.
    I am using DC and RMS measurement FPGA VI to get the RMS value of voltage and current in the FPGA.
    Similarly, i need to measure the power factor taking the voltage and current values in the FPGA.
    I am able to get the power factor in RT using the VI , which calculates phase angle.
    But in FPGA, I guess it is not direct. Please can I know, how to obtain the power factor in FPGA itself.

    OK, I haven't used FPGA version, so I'm out of my cage. If it is indeed limited, as JamesBeams says above, then there's not much you can do except rework the math yourself.
    I would think that such a VI would not be allowed to be transferred onto the FPGA in the first place, but that's just a guess.
     Perhaps there's a list of acceptable / unacceptable FPGA vi functions, and you could confirm that it's not available.

  • Do I have Active Power Factor Correction?

    I am trying to finalize which CyberPower battery backup system to get for my MacPro,1.
    CyberPower has regular UPS battery back up and their sinewave battery backup, which they say is for computers with Active Power Factor Correction (PFC).
    Does anyone know if my Mac Pro has APFC?
    And if so, do I really "need" CyberPower's sinewave system, or can I use their regular UPS without sinewave (which is also less expensive)
    (BTW, the APC UPS battery backup systems supply power to their surge outlets all the time even when you turn the APC off!)

    I'm in NY USA. CyperPower makes a sine wave with 10 outlets, 5 for battery backup and 5 with surge. I measured my Mac Pro and it with my monitors came in at 450 watts so the CyberPower tech said I their CP1000PFCLCD which is 1000V and 600 watts would be more than enough. So I just bought one.
    I wonder why everyone always goes right to the 1500. This is just for my home computer which all I need a battery backup is enough time to gracefully shut down versus a server.
    I also got went with the sine wave over the non sine wave because of future use. I won't have this Mac Pro forever and newer computers supposedly like sine wave better. So for the few extra dollars I thought "think future use."
    But do you think I got too low of a wattage capacity at 600 watts. I asked the tech twice: "are you sure 600 watts is enough?"  He said definitely.
    What do you think?

  • Timestep too small and Input Power Factor cannot be got

    I've just started using multisim 2001 to simulate Electronic Ballast circuits and am having trouble.
    About Double-Stage Electronic Ballast circuit,it works well before using EMI circuit,but I get a "timestep too small" error message after using EMI circuit.
    About Single-Stage Electronic Ballast circuit,it also works well before using Wattmeter,so I cannot get input Power Factor.Besides, I try to add EMI circuit, but noting works.

    I have tried something, but I am still not sure I am getting accurate readings. What I did was to remove the bridge rectifiers and the AC Voltage source and replace them by a DC power source at the same voltage value. It seems to stablize the reading, but I am not sure how reliable it is or if that is what it should be. What I will do is post the two circuit for you and let you look at them. It takes a little bit for the reading to stabalize so just be patient.

  • Power factor Measurement using myDAQ

    I have potential transformer (PT) & current transformer (CT)  and want to measure the phase angle between then later i can do COS angle to get the power factor of the input signal.
     I want to implemet this only by using myDAQ please dont suggest me to use another DAQ

  • Error in Proportional Factor Calculation Program

    I have developed an ABAP Program to calculate Proportional Factor(PF) as below.
    Generally,to calculate the PF for a period , we need to use transaction /sapapo/sdp94 to create a profile .After doing that , to calculate PF we need to go transaction /sapapo/mv8v .
    Now,the given program has three options :-
    1)Create : To create the selection-ID by taking ‘areabasepackRS’ as name of the selection-ID . Here we need to give the excel sheet that is used to load data into /sapapo/mc8v to calculate PF.
    2)Calculate PF : This option is used to calculate proportional factor.
       Now if we try to calculate PF ,I get an error message saying there are no
       plannable characteristic combinations .
    3) Delete : This option is used to delete the selection profile.

    Business scenario - Consider a factory having 5 different customers (which is known as Customer_rs). We need to supply stock to each of them based on their past consumption. So to forecast this, we calculate a factor known as proportional factor based on the data we have for previous months.
    So to calculate the PF for a period, we need to create a profile in /sapapo/sdp94 .
    After creating the profile, the profile can be seen by clicking on SPD94 and going to selection-screen button .
    Then to calculate PF , we need to go to transaction /sapapo/mv8v .
    Here we will have to give the selection id that was saved in SDP94.
    All this process has to be automated and a program has been created to do this.
    A description of how the program works  is as given below.
    When we try to calculate the proportional factor with this program , the following error is obtained :-
    ‘There are no plannable characteristic combinations.’
    We are passing the same parameters that were passed by the SDP94 transaction to the standard function module for saving the selection ids. This is shown in the below screenshots.
    In spite of this we are getting the error.
    Now to delete the selection ids,click on delete option in the program .
    But the problem is even if we click on delete , the PPF data will be stored in the database inspite of deleting the selection profiles .
    Please can anyone help me out with  this .

  • Power Pivot - Calculating Exchange Rates depending on MONTH

    Hello everyone, I have a question, would like to know if someone can help me figuring out a solution. I have created a spreadsheet using powerquery and powerpivot. Loading the data on powerquery from different spreadsheets was a charm, the problem is calculating
    the exchange rates per month. Let me try to explain better;
    The structure is as following:
    I have 3 tables, they are:
    Dates– Just a dates (loaded directly on PowerPivot).
    Invoice – Details of invoices for all customers, gross totals are in different rates (loaded through power query)
    Customer – Detailed information of customers (loaded directly on PowerPivot).
    Currency – exchange rates (loaded directly on PowerPivot).
    Note: I mentioned where they were loaded because I do not know if that really matters, I guess it does not... but extra information will not hurt. Now, let's go to how these tables are connected between each other and their key columns:
    The Invoice table has information on invoices dates, invoice gross total and customer code. This table is related to Customer table, which has the actual name of customers and other details. This link is done through the Customer Code column. The Currency
    table have a relationship with the Customer Table through the Country Column.
    What I want to achieve is a formula to do the exchange rate based on the Invoice Date column present on the Invoice Table. So I have created a column on the Currency Table named at each month of the year and populated it with the exchange rates for all countries
    (countries listed using ISO3 format).
    My problem is while I am able to select a column from the Currency table to do the exchange rate calculation using the below formula, I fail to realize how to do it per month:
    =CALCULATE(sum(invoice[Gross Value])*SUM(Currency[Reverse]))
    *Reverse is the column with the exchange rate for the country money to USD
    What I am failing to do is how to make that calculation to also consider the month of the invoice and pull the exchange rate for the same month from the Currency table… something like:
    Get the invoice date then find the column on Currency[Month] and multiply, providing me the USD amount.
    I was unable to figure out a solution using the filters parameters from Calculate. If some of you ask why I am using SUM inside Calculate, is because if I only use SUM and try to do the math between the two tables I get an error saying that it was not possible
    to determine the value on Currency[Reverse]. Same happens with SUMX. It worked out with Calculate, but then I cannot create other formulas using CALCULATE on that table because it will give that error on redundancy, unless I add a filter on it, which worked
    last time (but I do not remember which thing /parameter used to filter, so do not ask it right now :D)
    To be honest… I do not really need that level of accuracy, but my Virgo perfectionist side demands me to find a solution to that, that will not use a single exchange rate, but consider which is the correct exchange rate for the month of the invoice and calculate
    it correctly for all invoices. Just so you know, the Invoices tables has more than 1million lines.
    Anyone know how to crack this problem or can point me to some site where I can learn how to do it?

    Having problems to understand how you managed to combine your currency table with the customer table by Country ID. Where’s the 1-side of this relation (many customers in the same country and many months for the same currency)?
    Anyway: Seeing that you already use Power Query, I’d suggest that you prepare your data in a way that you can connect your currency table with your invoice table instead of with your customer table. Create a field in your Invoice Table
    that concatenates Customers CountryID&Month.

    Hi gurus,
    I´m trying to adap the automatic forecast selection in MC88 transaction to a graphic company scenario. They have several clients where they planned all the forecast for them, based on increase/decrease sales of each client. Today they are using the alpha, beta, gama factors but they still need to calculate the demand in a Excel spreadsheet and adjust the result in SAP.
    My questions are:
    - There´s any way to change the factors criteria? For example, if I want to increase the forecast for 2012 in 10% over 2011. If not, anyone knows a way to input this growing factor into the automatic forecast?
    - I already found the formulas for the alpha, beta, gamma, but it´s not didactic to explain to some users. Anyone knows where I can find a simple and objective explanation for this factors?

    Hi,
    It's your wrong assumption that clients are not using Forecast. Most of the Retails clients are effectively using forecast.
    Without forecasting, Retail operation will not work at all.
    A demand forecast is a prediction of the amount of each article / product that will be sold in the future. It's easy to see that inaccurate forecasts can cause major problems for your company. When forecasted demand is far below actual demand for a product, you risk running out of products and disappointing your customers. If forecasted demand exceeds actual usage, you'll probably be faced with large quantities of dead stock and slow-moving inventory.
    For your company to be successful, your demand forecasts for products must be as accurate as possible.
    (a) Alpha is used in the basic value calculation
    (b) Beta is used in trend value calculation
    (c) Gamma is used in the Seasonal index calculation
    The value for the parameters range from 0 to 1.   A higher value will place more emphasis on recent history. The parameters also control how reactive the forecast is to changes in historical patterns.

  • Effects of using EF in EF-S camera and lens crop factor calculations.

    I have read a lot about APS-C sensors and the differences between EF and EF-S lenses.
    I still have two remaining questions regarding how EF-S lenses are marketed.
    1) Do EF-S lenses need to have the 1.6x factor applied for effective focal length or are they marked correctly since they can only be used in APS-C cameras?
    E.G. My 17-40mm EF 4L lens is effectively a 27.2-64mm when used in a EF-S mount camera due to the 1.6x factor.
    So would a 60mm EF-S prime lens actually be similar to a 60mm EF prime lens in terms of focal and "zoomed" level of the image? Or would it also apply the crop factor and be effectively a 96mm focal length?
    2) Are there any other attributes of an EF lens that you must apply a conversion when using in an EF-S mount? F-stop rating?

    If you feel obliged to think in full-frame terms even when using an APS-C camera, then yes, the crop factor is applied equally to zooms and primes. But unless you routinely use both types of camera, the mental exercise is really rather silly. Better to simply get used to the idea that on an APS-C camera a 30mm lens is "normal"; a 50mm lens is a mild telephoto or portrait lens; a 17-55mm zoom is a typical "walking around" lens; etc. Once you start thinking in those terms, you're much less likely to select the wrong lens than if you have to constantly apply the correction factor. If you do use both APS-C and FF cameras, you'll quickly get used to selecting, for example, the right normal lens for either type of camera, because you already know, in each case, what that is. At least that's what I've found to be true.

  • Measuring point for Power Factor Meter

    Dear All Experts,
    I need to create PF meter as Measuring Point.
    I have created characteristic PF without any unit of measure assigned to it since PF is a ratio.
    Now if I create Measuring point using characteristic PF system does not allow me to create the same popping up message" only characterisitcs with a unit of measure can be used."
    Then I created a unit as Ratio and assigned to the Characteristic PF.
    Even then system does not allow me to create measuring point popping up the same message.
    Please help.

    You could create the Measuring Point only with the characteristics with Numeric UoM. So create the ratio with Numeric UoM & try the same.
