Power Query import data error

Hi all,
As Power Query does not support ODBC I tried direct connect to DB via menu
From Database/From MySQL Database.
I passed authorization and my query was being running.
But after all records were downloaded I just got error
'SELECT command denied to user '****'@'x.x.x.x' for table 'bogus_table' and
as result PQ query was failed.
What's interesting is that my original query was 'SELECT id FROM b_user'.
I do NOT query any 'bogus_table'.
What does all that mean?
-- Paul

This appears to be a bug in the MySQL ADO.NET driver. Under some circumstances, when you close the DbDataReader, the MySQL driver will attempt to run the query “SELECT * FROM bogus_table LIMIT 0”. It attempts to trap the error by checking for error number
1146 (table not found), but in this case it’s getting a different exception – probably error number 1142 (select permission denied).
You should
1) Report the bug to MySQL.
2) Delete the table named bogus_table, if it’s not actually needed.
3) Consider renaming the table named bogus_table if it is needed, or granting select permission to all users.
We're sorry you had to run into this, but even if we could mitigate this MySQL bug in Power Query code, it would take nearly two months for you to get the updated version. Fixing the local data is likely the best approach.

    Hi Mariana,
I've had the same kind of problem, which gave me the
General conversion failure on column pair 1 (source column 'SIGNEDDATA' (DBTYPE_STR), destination column 'SIGNEDDATA' (DBTYPE_NUMERIC)).)
    errror message
My issue was resolved by changing the CREDITNEGATIVE=NO option to CREDITNEGATIVE=YES, because BPC probably converted negative values as 'string' values in stead of 'numeric' when importing SAP FI data with the minus sign '-' at the end (100-) instead of SQL signeddata (-100)
But I have to be carefull, my Account Dimension setup is as follows:
    Balance Sheet Asset => AccType=AST
    Balance Sheet Liabilities => AccType=LEQ
Profit and Loss Revenues => AccType =INC
Profit and Loss Expenses => AccType=INC
My flat file seperator is a comma (,) and decimalpoint is a point (.)
We are using BPC 7.5 MS SP07 Patch 02 and I'm not using any VBA to convert the amount.
    Maybe it can help?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Chandra,
There's nothing that I can see wrong with your syntax. For giggles, I wrote an import statement against sample basic on my laptop (no load rule, just like yours) and stuck it into a three line MaxL script (login, import, exit):
    import database 'sample'.'basic' data from local data_file 'c:\\hyperion\\essbase\\app\\sample\\basic\\calcdat.txt' on error abort ;
    It works.
    BTW, this also works:
    import database sample.basic data from local data_file 'c:\hyperion\essbase\app\sample\basic\calcdat.txt' on error abort ;
    Isn't MaxL neat? :)
Are you sure that your pathing is correct?

BTW, that first import statement has a double backslash between basic and calcdat but it doesn't show up after it's posted yet it is there when I edited it. It must be something to do with the way it gets wrapped in my browser.
Edited by: CL on Dec 5, 2008 12:51 PM
This also works (added text property to data_file):
    import database sample.basic data from local text data_file 'c:\hyperion\essbase\app\sample\basic\calcdat.txt' on error abort ;

This is very strange. If you cube is in Load (not Planning) mode than each request should turn Green or Red upon completion. If somebody changed mode from Planning to Load than last request should turn from Yellow to Green.
Is that APO... request the top request in your cube? Can you please check one setting of that cube? If you go to change mode of that cube and open Environment menu you'll see InfoProvider Properties, select Display and than select Roll Up tab. Can you tell if there is a check mark on 'Set Quality Status to OK automatically'? This property must be checked for BPC to function properly.
What Nilajan suggested will most probably help you this time, but you have to find out who's changing your cube to prevent this from happening in the future.

I have tried to use microstrategy web service url in "from web" in power query but getting error as "DataSource.Error: Unable to connect to the remote server".

Does MicroStrategy expose any endpoints using json or OData? Does the server you're trying to access require you to log in first?

  • Power Query: Connect to Microsoft Access protected by password

    Hi,
I'm trying to connect to Access 2003 database using Power Query addin in Excel 2010. The access database is protected with password. Power Query returns an error Not a valid password, while i cannot find any place or 'M' formula to pass the password to power
    query. Pls help.

I believe we don't currently support connecting to password-protected Access databases from within Power Query.
I guess a similar situation occurs with password protected excel files?
Are there any plans to add a functionality to connect to such files?

  • Power Query and multi-selection columns

I have a power query pulling data from a sharepoint list some of the list columns allow multiple selections.
The power query seems to only be pulling in one value instead of all the selected ones in the columns.
    Thanks,
    Eric

    Hi Eric,
Just to add a bit more detail to what is going.
In Power Query, SharePoint List columns with multiple selection choices are represented as nested tables with a single column called "Value". Each row of these nested tables will represent a selected choice for the list item. You can examine this by clicking
on "Table" under the "Options" column on one of the rows.
By clicking on the "Expand" icon of a column, you are making use of the Table.ExpandTableColumn function. That function will take each row in the table and do a cross product with the rows of the nested tables of the selected column. This means that each
row will be duplicated as many times as there rows in the nested columns.
In this specific case, each item in the SharePoint list will become duplicated as many times as there are selected choices for the item. This can be very useful in some cases, but I think that in your case this is not the operation that you're looking for.
If you want to simply create a column that combines all the selected choices as a single text value, there's a simpler alternative to Alejandro's solution:
    = Table.AddColumn(RemovedColumns, "Options 2", each Text.Combine([Options][Value], ", "))
You can simply paste the above as a blank step by clicking on the "Fx" icon next to the formula bar. Here we're creating a new column called "Options 2" that combines the text values in the "Value" column of the nested table of the Options column and separate
    each entry by ", ".

  • Date and time not showing correct whe imported to Power query

    Hi,
I have an Excel list that I imported to another Excel file via Power query. A few of the imported columns contains date and time, for example 2013-11-09 20:19. When imported to Power query this will show as 41587.84652777778 and only dates/times with zero
hours and minutes will show correctly. When trying to change the data type to Date/Time it returns an error for all cells containing hours and minutes.
I use a Swedish version of Excel that uses a different time format compared to standard excel and also uses a , as a delimiter between date and time compared to the . used as delimiter in standard excel. Don't know if that can explain
    this problem?
    Brgds,
    C

I updated Power query earlier this week, so it should be the latest version. When I created the sample file now the problem appears, so if it is a bug it has not been solved.
You find the sample file on the link below. 4 sheets with some info on the problem, the data, the query result and one sheet with the data and query result as pictures as it shows in my version of Excel, I guess it will look somewhat different when you open
the file due to local date/time settings.
Appreciate feedback on what you find!

  • Power Query/Data Management Gateway data refresh not working

Pretty new to o365/Power BI, but here's what I've got going on (hopefully someone can help me out):
I created a data management gateway and data source.  The data source says it's online in the PowerBI admin center, and it seems to be working correctly.  I can open Excel 2013 on my desktop (logging in as my trial o365 account which has Power
BI associated with it) and connect to the data source via Power Query using the oData option.  I make sure to import the data into the model, and then open up the PowerPivot window and create a simple pivot table using the data in the model.
that all works just great.  The problem comes when I upload the workbook and try to update it.  I've tried a few different ways.
    1. When I try to manually refresh the workbook by opening it in my o365 site and going to data-->refresh I get the following error:
An error occurred while working on the Data Model in the workbook. Please try again.
We were unable to refresh one or more data connections in this workbook.
The following connections failed to refresh:
          Connection: Power Query - dbo_DimProductCategory

The following system error occurred: Class not registered
The provider 'Microsoft.Mashup.OleDb.1' is not registered.
          Power Query - dbo_DimProductCategory
    2. When I go into Power BI and go to "Schedule Data Refresh" for the workbook, I get the following error:
Sorry, the data connections in this report aren’t supported for Scheduled Refresh.
          Technical Details â–¼
          Correlation ID: B3CE4B10-2137-E593-6FCF-189B73465190
Date and Time: 03/31/2014 06:20:39 PM (UTC)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  If you need additional information, I'd be happy to provide it.

    Hey Guy,
    Thanks for the reply.
The "data source type" of the data source in Power BI is "SQL Server" (there was only that and Oracle available to select from)
The "data source type" that Power Query is using in Excel is "From oData Feed"....which is using the Power BI data source....which is using the data management gateway.
A few follow up questions if you have a second
    1. Do you know when PowerQuery data refresh will be supported? (just a general idea....weeks, months, next year?)
    2. Is there any other way to connect to (and be able to refresh) PowerBI data sources referencing "on prem" data via the data management gateway?  I tried using the oData feed URL in non-PowerQuery areas of excel (excel data tab, PowerPivot directly)
but it didn't work.  If there's some other way to connect to and refresh on prem data, i'm all ears :D
Really appreciate your help, thanks for taking the time.

  • Can I use Power Query to Import a table from Excel sheet range which starts not from the top row?

    Hi,
Being an experienced Excel user before Power BI, I am just starting to explore the M and Power Query capabilities, and need help already (ain't easy to google this use case somehow):
I need to import the table which sits in the Excel file with header row in the row 17 of Excel sheet, with some metadata header in the preceding rows of the columns A and B.
    01: Report name, Quick Report
    02: Report Date, 1/1/2014
    17: Employee Name, Manager, etc...
18: John Doe, Matt Beaver, etc.
Both (a) direct attempt to load as Excel file and (b) the indirect way through [From Folder] and formula in custom column -- both lead to the same error: "[DataFormat.Error] External table is not in the expected format."
Specifically, I tried to use the [Power Query -> From File -> From Folder] functionality, select an Excel file and add a custom column to access the binary content: [Add Custom Column] with formula "=Excel.Workbook([Content])".
It looks like Power Query expects a rectangular range with headers full-width followed by a contiguous table range to import anything, and refuses to load if that is not the case...
QUESTION: Is there any way to load whatever-formatted data from Excel first, and then manipulate the overall imported range (like referring to rows starting from 17th using "Table.SelectRows" etc.) to read the actual data? Reading and using
the metadata from header would be a bonus, but that comes second... The main issue is to get something from a non-regular Excel file to later work with using M formulae ...
    Thanks!
    SAM

Finally found the answer to this one in ():
You Cannot Open a Password-Protected Workbook
If the Excel workbook is protected by a password, you
cannot open it for data access, even by supplying the correct password with
your connection settings, unless the workbook file is already open in the
Microsoft Excel application. If you try, you receive the following error
      message:
    Could not decrypt file.
ANSWER: So, will have either weave in the work with temporary unprotected files or requires opening them before updating the data source (although this almost defeats the purpose of automation...)
ANSWER to ORIGINAL QUESTION: password was preventing Power Query from reading the Excel file. For solution see above.
Thanks anyway for participation and inspiration, Imke!

  • POWER QUERY Get External Data From File From Folder (Excel 2013)

    Hi,
    Beginner's question :
What could be the use of the query on a folder : we just get a list of files with their path. What can we do with that?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Do you want to combine data from multiple Excel Files in the same folder path into one table? If I understand correct, we can add a custom column to import the data.
After we getting a list of files with their path, the Query Editor window will activate to show you a table containing a record for each file in the chosen directory. These will provide our function with the needed FilePath and FileName parameters.
Function sample: File name([Folder path],[Field name]

  • Data loaded to Power Pivot via Power Query is not yet supported in SSAS Tabular Cube

Hello, I'm trying to create a SSAS Tabular cube from a data loaded to Power Pivot via Power Query (SAP BOBJ connector) but looks like is not yet supported.
Any one tried this before? any workaround that make sense?
The final goal is pull data from SAP BW, BO Universe (using PowerQuery) and be able to create a SSAS Tabular cube.
    Thanks in advance

    Sebastian,
Depending on the size of the data from Analysis Services, one work around could be to import the data into into Excel and then make an Excel table and then use the Excel table as a data source.
