Power-up speaker volume setting

Regardless of the speaker volume setting, I would like to quiet the power up sound when I turn my MacBook on.  Is there a way to do so?  Thanks in advance.

  • [SOLVED] Speaker volume set to 0 when PulseAudio starts

    Hi guys,
last pacman -Syu which I've run on February 1, 2013 brought some terrible bugs to me. E.g. the CPU fan is running permanently at full speed. Another one ist that the level of the speaker channel is set to zero every time PulseAudio starts, see attached picture:
    It's related to this bugs:
    1. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59217
    2. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54673
    3. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/921397
The fix for the first bug didn't work for me (modifying /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/analog-output-speaker-always.conf). As in the first bug report, I also have a Dell XPS L502X.
pacman -Syu upgraded pulseaudio from 2.1-1 to 3.0-2, see pacman.log:

A package downgrade of PulseAudio back to 2.1-1 doesn't work.
Maybe someone know how to fix it. Please inform me if you need additional information or if I should better open a bug report for this issue.

Thank you all for your help, especially adee. pulseaudio-git package from AUR solves the problem. Therefore, I think it's not necessary to open another bug report at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/describeco … PulseAudio.

  • Speaker Volume Specific Setting?

I’m just wondering if there is another way to control the speaker volume within the iPhone. If I want to bring the speaker level up I need to go into iPod and then raise the volume (I can do this with YouTube, too).

How about that volume button on the left hand side of the iPhone. That would be the larger of the two buttons. Also in settings under sounds.

  • Headphone volume setting not retained

This topic has popped up in the past but I have not been able to find a solution.
Essentially what happens is that the volume setting for the headphones jumps back to 50% upon every reboot. Is there any way to fix this or if not to at least a way to unite the speaker and the headphones settings so I don't have to adjust the volume every time I use headphones?
    Thanks!!

Hi, You may want to adjust the volume level in eg; if you are using ITunes. Adjust the level under Options. Also some songs are recorded @ different volumes check the setting above each time you have this problem and you will fix the level. Also there is a very inexpensive program called Hear @ Joesoft.com great program very reasonable price. Hope this helps.
Oh, in the Midi Audio Section you can change the values and maybe this will help.
Another great item available is on E-bay called an external amplifier. This will correct your problem as it gives you total control of the volume level set it forget it. About $20 but it's great. An individual makes them himself and is in Hong Kong or some where in that area. A good guy and he will help with any questions that's the way I'd go.
Hope this helps. If you can't find it I will dig out the information to find it. It is a small black box about 2 x 2 inches, with power adapter and extension cord. Best thing I ever got for audio.

  • Voice memo volume very low, it played normally then today very low even with volume set full blast.

    Hello NCMead,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I'd like you to take a look a the follow support article, specifically starting at step 5:
Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
    Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, follow these troubleshooting steps.
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue is not resolved, please contact Apple Support.

  • Volume setting not saved

    Hello,
My volume settings are not saved when I power-cycle or reset my iMac. I have tried resetting the PRAM, with no effect. In another thread, someone asked me whether my PRAM battery might be getting old; the answer is, probably not, this computer was new as of this January.
One thing that's a little different from my other/previous Macs is that I have a Solid-State Disk (SSD) as startup disk and a standard Hard Drive (HD) for data storage. As recommended by various threads on the subject, to optimize performance while minimizing wear on the SSD, the /Users/xxx directory is on the SSD, but various sub-directories (Desktop, Documents, Downloads, ...) are on the HD. I've noticed that this leads to various odd perturbations (e.g. icons in the Finder sidebar only update when I click on them, can't launch a Parallels virtual machine by double-clicking its icon, ...), but I really don't see how it would be related to my volume settings.
    Here's the machine configuration:
    iMac (iMac11,3) 27" / 2.93 GHz Intel Core i7 / 16 GB RAM / 251 GB SSD / 2 TB HD
    Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K540)
    Boot ROM version: IM112.0057.B00
Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks for the suggestion. The Library folder is on the SSD, and I don't think the Public folder really has anything to do with this. But I did try moving the Desktop folder back to the SSD; the only thing that changed is that the Desktop icon in the Finder window sidebar is drawn correctly. The volume setting behavior is not changed.
I noticed something else, though: when I increase the volume and restart, the reboot chime is louder. This implies that my volume setting is correctly saved to PRAM, but then something else - during the start-up - cranks it back down. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to track this sort of thing?

  • IPad mini retina low speaker volume

I've just bought my iPad mini retina and I have noticed that the speaker volume is very low. I know the speakers are small as of the size of the device but even my iphone 5s with one speaker is louder and was not sure if this was normal or my device not working correctly? I've got until 11th of jan to take back for exchange and would rather get it sorted before that if it is the device causing this issue

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

  • Improved speaker volume on late 2007 MacBooks?

I just bought a new 2.2 ghz black MacBook last week. The internal speaker volume sounds fine to me.
Did the Santa Rosa chip set fix this problem?

    Benny P. wrote:
It may be that; or Apple put a better speaker system in the newer MacBooks.
In the older ones, it was pitiful. So I do hope Apple did upgrade the speakers, it could make customers happy.
    -benny
It isn't exactly pitiful. I've heard that Apple released a firmware that lowered the maximum output. To fix this, you can download Audio Hijack. You can set the volume up to 200%.

  • MacBook Pro speaker volume

I just finished importing a ton of CDs to my laptop and now I find I cannot get the internal speaker volume up past a whisper.  Any thoughts?  This is barely audible yet is working fine on an external output device via Bluetooth.  And, for those of you who say reset PRAM or buy external speakers, this problem never existed until I recently began importing my music library.  I'm sure it's just a setting but I don't know where to begin and definitely do not want to re-import 1000's of songs at a new volume.  Please help.  Thanks.

    Hello there, Donna.
There are a few places where sound can be adjusted on your Mac. If you're in the iTunes application, the following link from the online iTunes Help Guide provides some standard information:
Adjust the volume - iTunes Help
Adjust the volume of music and video
Change the volume for all songs (like turning the volume knob on a stereo): Use the volume slider at the top of the iTunes window.
The maximum volume is limited by your computer’s volume setting.
Adjust the volume of a particular song or video: Select it, choose File > Get Info, click Options, and drag the volume slider. iTunes uses this setting each time the song or video plays.
Have all songs and videos always play at the same volume level: Choose iTunes > Preferences, click Playback, and select Sound Check.
If you’re using remote speakers connected to an AirPort Express: You can use the volume controls on the speakers as well as the iTunes volume controls. To use only the speaker’s controls, click the AirPlay button , click Single, and choose the speakers from the pop-up menu.
SEE ALSOChoose which speakers to use
Additionally the Mac OS Help Guide provides this information:
Turn the volume up or down - Mac Help
Turn the volume up or down
To change your computer’s volume, click the Volume control in the menu bar, then drag the slider to adjust the volume. If the Volume control isn’t in the menu bar, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Sound. Click Output, then select the “Show volume in menu bar” checkbox.

  • JBL Power Up Speaker + 920 not work in NFC mode?

Is anyone else having an issue with the JBL Power Up speaker not working with the Lumia 920 in NFC mode? I'm also having problems getting it to pair through Bluetooth -- my Lumia doesn't see it no matter what.

Sounds as if it might be a problem with your phone. Have you tried performing a soft reset (pressing the volume down and power buttons together until the phone vibrates)? if that doesn't work, then try performing a hard reset (Settings > About > Reset your phone). please bear in mind that this deletes all personal data, so please backup all personal data to PC and / or online storage first.
Failing that, I would take both devices back to your point of purchase to check it with another 920, or if they are being less than helpful, take your phone to your local Nokia Care point for them to inspect: http://nokia.com/support

  • HP Pavilion DV6 Notebook Speaker Volume Too Low

I have all speaker/audio settings everywhere set at maximum, but the speaker volume I get when I play any kind of audio or video feed from anywhere is way too low. (If I plug external speakers into the headphone jack, the volume is much better.) I've seen all of the posts where the solution was to do something on the "Enhancements" tab in Playback Devices, Properties, but I don't have that tab on my system. When I go into the Configure option and do the audio test, the volume there is great! I've also checked for updates on my audio drivers and the results have come back saying I have the best version already.
I've been putting up with this for a long time, but I'm really tired of having to plug external speakers in when I want to watch a video or listen to streaming music. I'd appreciate any suggestions (other than the one involving the "Enhancements" tab that I don't have) that might help fix this problem!

    Hello @Lagil ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand the audio appears to be way too low. I will do my best to help! First, please provide the following information and try the following steps:
    1. The computer's model number. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website: Guide to finding your notebook product number
    2. The computer's operating system. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website to determine your Windows operating system.
    3. Does this occur on certain programs, or all programs?
    4. Have you installed any new software or drivers on this computer, before the issue appeared?
    5. What steps have been attempted from the following thread, and what were the results: Troubleshooting Guide: Audio does not Work after a Certain Period of Time

  • Volume setting bug

On a 17" i5 2010 MBP (4GB/1,5 TB SSD) I've noticed that the audio volume setting fails when the audio output switches between the built-in speaker and the headphones (ear pods) and vice-versa. If I startup the mac with the headphones connected, the volume control works until I disconnect the phones and the audio output switches to the internal speaker.
    Any idea?

I have done some testing in the last 20 minutes and am convinced there is a conflict caused by Final Cut Express 3.0.
I opened and closed Audacity, Sound Studio and iMovie three times each with no problem.
I did the same with FCE and each time the Line In Volume control had reverted to the 50% setting.
So it appears there is a bug (at least with my setup).
Is there a cure - other than resetting System Preferences every time?
    Ian.

  • Home connect speaking volume too loud

I recently purchased Home connect.  I have 3 bars of signal.  The speaking volume is so loud that the audio is breaking up and severly distorted.  We purchased new high end Panasonic cordless phones-same problem.  The corded phone sounds the same.  I went through the ##1 process and set the level to 1.  I think this changes the listening volume not the speaking volume.  It did not change the symtoms.  Not sure where to go from here.
    Thanks for any thoughts

  • Linking multiple speaker volumes permanently, how?

I like the new iTunes 10 feature of separately controllable speaker volumes, however I have the house setup so it really needs all of the speaker volumes to remain constant. So far I've noticed that if I have all the speakers playing they will move in sync, but if at night I turn off some of the speakers and only control one set when I wake up they've lost sync. The speakers that get turned off default to the old volume they were at when shut off, not the present master volume. Is there a way to make the speakers always be at the master volume?
    Thanks!

Tried and failed repeatedly to get the speakers to all default to the master volume when they are turned on. The speakers always default to their last setting, which if was higher than the current master volume actually alters the master volume higher and leaves the speakers that are on at their level. That means when turning the master volume up the speakers that were already on do not go up in volume in sync with the master volume. Really quite annoying. There needs to be a way to make all remote speakers always default to the master volume, not their last setting. Please make this possible.

  • Speaker Volume help

I have the 1st gen iphone. For a couple of months the speaker has been getting softer and quieter. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or knows of a way to fix it. I used to be able to play music with the volume set at about 60% and it was plenty loud. Now at full volume it's almost impossible to hear. The ringer is so low I have to leave it on vibrate. I miss calls now matter what ringtone it's on.
The phone's never been damaged or wet.
    Please help.

What worries me is that Apple might not have told us that extensive use of the speakers might wear it out and make it softer.
