Preference path missing

Hi Friends,
Although I could successfully install Oracle Portal 3.0 on Oracle9iAS (ver. 9.0.1) with repository in Oracle8i (ver. 8.1.7), I am unable to access the Oracle Portal Home Page fully using the URL : http://<machine_name>:port/pls/portal30. The page displays the following error when opened.
Error : The preference path does not exist
Oracle.Portal.Page (WWC-51000)
I had chosen Enterprise Edition option while installing Ora9iAS for I wanted Forms and Report Server to be installed.
What & where settings shall I need to make?
Which table of the schema- Portal30 should store this preference path?
Which configuration file should have this information? ( I did not find any lead in the file containing DAD info)
Have I gone wrong in installation?
Which type of Oracle9iAS installation should I have followed ?
Or
For that matter, anything need to be done as the Portal Administrator for access?
If so, How?
Any help to resolve this problem will be long remembered.
Thanks in advance
Samir

Hi,
The preference path is part of the seed data. It is likely that you have install errors. Check the log at IAS_HOME/assistants/opca/install.log.
WWC-51000 occurs when your installation is not complete.
The solution is to change the large_pool size from 600k to the value of 35000000. (in the init.ora file) Make sure that your table-spaces are large enough.
Then you have to delete all portal30x - user (for a clean db) and restart the db and the installation-script for portal30.
Also check the following URL for more details:http://technet.oracle.com/products/iportal/htdocs/portal_troubleshooting.htm
Thanks,
Anu

A general shared_pool_size Q&A is part of the Troubleshooting Guide on OTN: http://technet.oracle.com/products/iportal/htdocs/portal_troubleshooting.htm
The Configuration Assistant determines the shared pool size from the view v$parameter,
which lists information about the initialization parameters (populated from init.ora file). If the shared_pool_size value is more than 15728640 (for a default installation), you pass the minimal requirements set by the Portal Installer. Make sure you actually write out all the digits (i.e. 1000000000) and don't use abbreviations (1000M). Currently, the Configuration Assistant does a numeric check against the values that are set and cannot resolve the abbreviate syntax.
Also try running the sql [select value from v$parameter where name like 'shared_pool_size';] to check if the changes you are making in the init.ora is really getting populated in the v$parameter view. As long as you restart the database once you make the change in init.ora, it should take effect.

• Accessing the preference path in a dynamic page

All,
I would like to access the preference path
so that I can use the get_names and get_value functions, in a dynamic page. When we create the dynamic page, we don't know what the preference path is. so, how do I get the preference path? e.g Add the dynamic page as a portlet into a content area page.
Thanks
Sanjay

Currently the validation of the PL/SQL block of a dynamic page is not in the
context of procedure show. So you can not directly refer to the parameters such as p_reference_path.
There is a way to do it:
1. use bind variable as the reference path
<ORACLE>
declare
parm1 varchar2(30) :=
portal30.wwpro_api_parameters.get_value('parm1', :path);
begin
htp.p('The value of Parameter 1 is ' | | parm1);
end;
</ORACLE>
2. In the Parameter Form Setting, set the default value for the bind variable to #p_reference_path
Before the PL/SQL block is executed, bind variable path will be bind with the value of procedure show's
parameter p_reference_path.
Hope this works.

• Form portlets give preference path errors

Hi there,
I've created a number of application components that work well
in isolation. However, when I place them as portlets on a page I
often get the following (or similar) error messages when I flick
between the tabs that contain the portlets.
Error: An unexpected error occurred: ORA-01403: no data found
ORA-01403: no data found (WWV-16016)
An unexpected error occurred: ORA-01403: no data found (WWV-
16016)
The preference path does not exist:
ORACLE.WEBVIEW.PARAMETERS.753_RP_MAINT_ROV_COMPONENT_2498561
(WWC-51000)
My components all share a small number of tables and I find the
problems usually occur when I delete a record from one form
portlet and then click on a tab to display a different form
portlet. My forms all contain combobox LOVs based on a query.
What is causing such annoying problems? I need to fix it ASAP!

• Preference Path

I've installed Oracle9i AS Portal on Windows 2000 Server. When I try to browse the Portal30 home page, I'm getting following error message:
Error: The preference path does not exist: Oracle.Portal.Page (WWC-51000)
Would any body help how to create the preference path?

Thanks Jay !
Actually I didn't install the Oracle9i AS Wireless by not filling the entries for pertaining to it during installation which did produce some errors.
Can't we just install Portal that comes with Oracle9i AS? Or the Oracle Wireless is must even if we don't want it?

• $PATH missing '/usr/local/bin'

$PATH missing '/usr/local/bin' in /etc/login.defs and /etc/profile.
I only noticed, being somewhat a noob, after compiling the NEW Dillo 0.7.3 and finding that it places its' executable in /usr/local/bin (!). This, not being in my $PATH by default.
Please consider adding this line to future ARCH 0.6 or beyond for WORKSTATION users:
# /etc/profile
export PATH="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/opt/bin"
Thanx.

A very wise decision to use this great browser :-) ... and I'm even serious about that.
Mt.Tam-Luxer wrote:and finding that it places its' executable in /usr/local/bin (!). This, not being in my $PATH by default.
For some reason it is in my /etc/profile ... but I don't remember if I put it there or not.
Firstly, (and as already mentioned more or less) I can see arguments why AL does not include /usr/local/bin by default (mainly because there is nothing there when only installing AL packages).
But OTOH, this is the beauty of AL : you can (and are even supposed to) configure your system as you like by editing the files in /etc. I guess that's why I don't remember, because the first thing I would do if need be is editing /etc/profile ;-) ...
Oh, but something (very general !) to consider : if you want to keep your system "Unix-style", don't put every posible PATH in /etc/profile, but put it in ~/.profile (or whatever shell you are using). If you are the only user, it does not really matter. But in a "true multi-user Unix system" you should not have /funky/path/bin in /etc/ ... not that /usr/local is exotic ....this is more of a general note.
sarah31 wrote:but imho if there is a PKGBUILD for a desired app (such as dillo)
yes, the PKGBUILD for dillo works fine, however, last week they released the latest version 0.7.3 which Mt.Tam-Luxer tried to install ( ... hint ... hint ... package maintainers ... :-) ... ). It was not quite clear from your post if yo wanted him to modify the PKGBUILD script or to just use it.
Oh, and besides changing pkgver, the source should now point to http://www.dillo.org/download/dillo-0.7.3.tar.bz2

Preferences are missing from Time Machine, how can I fix this?

Please don't SHOUT!
We're all users here and you'll get more help if you give us some coherrent information.
Firstly, do you have an external Hard Drive connected to use for your Time Machine backup?
Secondly "stacks" is not a programme; it's one method of presenting folder icons in the dock, and is accessed from the 'view options' choice which appears if you click on the folder. Right-clicking the folder will go straight to the options menu.

Given that you are logged in as that user, and most likely the admin user of the Mac, then it makes sense that you can change your own settings. If you were logged in as a different user, then you would not have access to change the settings for this admin account.

• Accounts Preference is missing

Just this morning I noticed that on my Powerbook G4 (running 10.4.11) the Accounts preference is missing from the System Preferences window. I'm not sure what would cause for this to happen. I have shutdown/restarted several times to see if there was a glitch, but it's still missing. I've never had this happen before. I downloaded and am using Onyx to run a clean every now and then, but I don't think this would have affected anything. I remember setting up a new admin user about 7 months ago, so I know at one time it was there. The laptop only has an admin user. I never added guests. When I start up, it always goes to the login screen where I have to enter my password to access the machine, so I know that my account info must be somewhere. Has anyone ever had this happen to them? Any suggestions?

• File Path Missing

I cant relocate my original files because the file path is missing all together. The path is replaced by a singe dot (.).
This has happend to alot of my pictures. I have tried to both reapir and rebuild the library. Nothing works. Anyone have a ide of whats gone wrong and how to resolve it?
Screen shot:
http://d.pr/i/jMDV

In the screen shot, the path "Volume: Photos/• Digital/Berlin Feb 2012/IMG_1588.CR2" is right, but the original path is the same just that the Volume is "Media".
But still, the "•" in front is puzzling; my locate referenced files screen is looking like this:
No special characters in front of the path - or is the "•" part of the pathname?
Your NAS a network volume, right? The left part of the "Locate Referenced Files" window should show the status of the volume. Does it show as online or offline?
I suspect, that Aperture has problems with special characters in the folder or filenames and cannot interpret the pathes correctly, i.e., if the formatting of your drive is not MacOS X extended.

• Sharing Preferences panel missing

This is probably an old issue, I just can't seem to locate it here anywhere, and Googling only produces fixes I have already tried. Some of the Macs I support (all running 10.4.11) are missing the Sharing preferences panel in System Preferences. This would not be so bad--it doesn't seem to affect performance at all--but that I cannot re-name machines without access to that panel. I have installed the ARD client, installed the CD/DVD Sharing update, both of which seem to have fixed this in the past. Not now. What's up?

Hi jreyome, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, but usually preventable and caused by pre-existing OS or Disk corruption...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates.
May even need to do an Archive and Install if you have room on the HD, but saves all your files and gives a new OS...
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.
