Present mail setup for 2 accounts - want to separate everything

Presently have 2 accounts in mail that is accessed by 1 icon on the dock. What I need is 2 separate mail programs on the dock that opens only 1 of the 2 accounts. In other words, 1 program per account. How do I do it?

When either of the 2 users logged in, they'd only be using one program/email client, in this case Mail, to access their emails. I thought that I could follow the same idea without setting up 2 users, or alternatively, as you are saying, 2 clients
The reason why this doesn't work is that when Mail.app (or any app, for that matter) starts up it looks for a specific configuration file to use. In Mail.app's case it looks for the file com.apple.mail.plist in the current user's preferences directory.
So if you could launch two copies of Mail.app at the same time they would both look at the exact same configuration file and have the same set of accounts, etc.
The reason why a different user gets different settings is that they have a different preferences directory from you - your preference folder might be /Users/kaal/Library/Preferences/ while some other user might be /Users/someoneelse/Library/Preferences/
There's no way to tell Mail.app to use someone else's preferences directory while you are logged in (that would violate the system security, for one thing).

  • Outlook 2013 Mail Setup Add Account crashes with Rundll32 error and will not connect to Exchange in Windows 8.1

I got a new Acer laptop with Windows 8.1 over 3 weeks ago, and installed Office Professional Plus 2013.  I have an Office365 E1 subscription, but this Office 2013 is not associated with the subscription.
When I go to setup any email account using the automatic mode (primary will be Exchange Online with my 365 account, but I've tested POP email accounts with the same result), the Mail Setup crashes once the email address and password is entered and Next is
pressed.  This error message is displayed:
"Windows host process (Rundll32) has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
The step displayed as in process when the crash occurs is the "Searching for [email address] settings".  The first step "Establishing network connection" is checked complete.
I've run an Office Repair, and there's no change.  I've run a clean boot, and even uninstalled/reinstalled with the same error still appearing.
If I use the manual setup mode and input the server outlook.office365.com, both the Check Name function and the Next button result in the error message:
"The action cannot be completed. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable.  Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."  The folks in the Office365 support community have told me that Office365 ExchangeOnline
servers have to be configured with the auto-setup and cannot be setup manually.
I've done both a system refresh and a system reset, and I'm still getting the Rundll32 error.  I tried to run a reset from a disk, but the laptop does not want to run it from the external DVD drive (giving error messages), so that doesn't appear
    to be an option.
I've searched extensively, and there doesn't seem to be any existing threads where anything like this problem is discussed.
Can you offer any ideas or solutions?
After THREE WEEKS of troubleshooting this, and some significant delays in getting help from support, I'm really close to returning this laptop.
I need an answer on this ASAP to see if you've got an insights before I return the laptop for a new one.
    Thanks,
    Jason

IMPORTANT: I found the solution.  Another user figured it out and posted the answer on another thread.
Please spread this around to all other Outlook support techs so they know to point people in the direction of the quick (though very obscure) fix to this problem.
See this thread for how to disable graphics acceleration in Office, which iswhat causes the rundll23 error.

  • Initial Mail Setup for Old AOL Address

    BACKGROUND
I have an AOL e-mail address. Until recently, I logged on to the AOL application and retrieved my e-mail that way (I had never used the Apple Mail application). AOL recently allowed their users to get rid of AOL as their ISP and so not use the AOL application, but at the same time to retain their e-mail address. So I got rid of AOL as my ISP and moved to a local cable company.
    QUESTION
I still have my AOL e-mail address. I can easily access the e-mail to this address by logging onto AOL.com and going to the e-mail section.
    1) Can I also use Apple's Mail to access this e-mail address?
    2) If so, how do I set it up? The Mail setup routine is filled with (to me) unreadable techo-gibberish (by the way, I did get a degree in computer science back in the day). My specific questions are (when setting up Mail):
    - what Account Type do I want (POP, IMAP, Exchange)? The help files tell me to ask my ISP, which doesn't help me much.
    - then (if I guess on Account Type), Mail asks for Incoming Mail Server. Again, I don't know what they're asking for.
Any help would be very much appreciated!
    iMac 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

You may find AOL Service Assistant - Internet Utilities the simplest way to set up your AOL account for Mail.
Believe it or not, it is a fairly well written, OS X-savvy application. It is also the only simple way to get any saved mail out of AOL's proprietary "Personal Filing Cabinet" format or contacts out of it's proprietary Address Book format.
You can choose to configure any of the four Apple apps its supports individually, but if you choose to import old AOL email, you must configure a Mail account for AOL at the same time. Because of this, I recommend not using the manual method from http://members.aol.com/adamkb/aol/mailfaq/imap/applemail.html to set up the account, because you may end up with two email accounts. I would also first make backup copies of Mail's pref file (~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist) & the main Mail docs folder (~/Library/Mail) just in case something weird happens.
If you have a lot of saved AOL mail, the import process can take quite a while, so give it at least say, 10 minutes per 100 messages, before deciding it isn't responding -- there is a progress bar but it doesn't move for minutes at a time. Also, the account settings it installs may be slightly different from the ones in the unofficial guide -- basically, it installs the SSL settings the guide mentions. The included Read Me has more info about that.
I have used this app with Mail & with Address Book & it does work with Mail 2.x & Os 10.4.7.

  • Outlook 2013 Mail Setup Add Account crashes or will not connect to Exchange in Windows 8.1

I've posted this in the answers.Microsoft.com forum, as well as the Office365 forum, and they sent me here, saying the Outlook engineers would be the best to help with this.  I actually already posted this question a week ago, but nobody here replied.
Getting a bit frustrated at the lack of support, except for Richard over at the Office365 Forum.
I'm setting up a new laptop with Windows 8.1.  Just installed Office Professional Plus 2013.
I've run a clean boot, and no change.  I uninstalled/reinstalled both from the Click to Run version, as well as reinstalling from a disk install, with the same error still appearing.
If I use the manual setup mode and input the server outlook.office365.com, both the Check Name function and the Next button result in the error message:
"The action cannot be completed. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable.  Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."
I've disabled the firewall and still get this Outlook error.  I am able to start Outlook and it will run now, and I can connect POP and IMAP email using the manual setup, but still cannot connect to ExchangeOnline via the manual setup.  I still
get the error "The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable.  Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."
I deleted the Outlook data file and deleted the profile, and created a new profile, and I'm still getting the Add account setup crash Rundll32 error in the auto-setup mode.
Important to note: I tested my friend's Office365 E3 ExchangeOnline account and was able to get a successful setup test, so it doesn't appear that the problem is entirely just the Outlook2013 client, since it worked once with a 365 Exchange account.
I've been trying to get this working for 2 weeks now, and I am unable to completely switch off my old laptop using Outlook 2010 until I can get Outlook2013 setup on my new one, which is a huge hassle.
Can you offer any ideas or solutions?  Please help ASAP.
    Thanks,
    Jason

  • Mail on two accounts - want to combine

    Hi!
I have two partitions on my system (for optimizing purposes, etc) I have left my Mail application on both. Sometimes when I am on the second account I have checked my account and obviously received mail.
What I want to know is is there an application, or way to take the downloaded messages and combine them with the same named mailbox on my mail partition?
I see that they are stored as "emlx" format. Is there something that can combine these formats together?
    Thanks in advance.

Do you want to do this as a recurring process or just once. You can import mailboxes from one account to the other. I'm not sure that is what you want, though.
Really, I was curious about the "(for optimizing purposes, etc)." If you are really talking about Optimizing the disk structure, it's not necessary on the Mac unless you are regularly editing files greater than 20 MB in size. Otherwise, Mac OS X optimizes on the fly any files less than that size. If that is not the purpose, I guess I'm interested, but that would take us off topic, which I already have.

  • HT201320 ipod mail setup for t-online

I am trying to set up my mail account for Deutsche telekom (t-online.de). But when I enter all the data my ipod tells me that the mails cannot be received: user name or password for secureimap.t-online.de is not correct". An I don't know why... Any ideas?

I reply to this question even it is over one year old since I had the same problems recently. I described how I solved it in German in this article:ios 7 E-Mail-Client mit T-Online. In short the trick is to set an extra password for external email clients (like Outlook or the Apple email client) in the menue of the email center ("E-Mail-Center"), which has its own password - the same as that for the customer center ("Kundencenter").
Set the SSL-decryption setting to "on". Use the following ports:
    inbox server: secureimap.t-online.de, Port: 993, safety: SSL/TLS,
    outbox server: securesmtp.t-online.de, Port: 587, safety: SSL/TLS.
These settings should be found automatically during the setup of the email account.
And I recommend to set the storage time for emails in the email center from 90 days (default) to "never delete".

What did your ISP tell you to enter for the following information:

    Server Name
    Port Number
    Authentication Method
    SSL Status
    *Outgoing Server*
    Server Name

  • E-mail setup for a group to receive and send messages

How is the best way to setup an e-mail account where the Users of this account can send and receive e-mail messages?

    Hi DR.
This question itself is a answer.
First: user needs an email address for communication and email mailbox for store mail items
2nd: Exchange server can provide email mailbox
3rd: you need to have domain configured on that exchange server
4th: you need to have Active directory server to control the user account
    or,
use the cloud base email services such as yahoo/gmail/hotmail etc

  • I recently installed OS 10.8, and now my mail and calendar accounts want to default to my sister and her email address?

    Here is my situation:
My sister and I have shared an Apple ID ever since I bought my sister an iPhone on my cell phone account. We each have Mac laptops and had no problem syncing to separate Gmail/Exchange accounts but still share an Apple ID for convenience.
However, after I installed Mountain Lion, the account settings in Systems Preferences will default to having my sister's name instead of mine. I would change the name to my own, enter my own Gmail and Exchange accounts and everything will appear okay, but then, when I come back, the name automatically reverts to my sister's! (The email address and other account information remains my own though.)
If this were the only issue, I would be able to deal with it, but the most bothersome aspect is when I try to make an appointment in Calendar and set an alert email to myself, the only options are my SISTER's email addresses. I don't even have an option to change it. When I was running 10.6.8, the email address options were my own address.
I am flummoxed as to where my computer is getting my sister's name and email address. I went into my Apple ID account and no where does it list my sister's name or email address. How do I remedy this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tuan
***I figured it out by the answers that popped up after I posted.  Apparent this is a frequent problem. Somehow, my sister was assigned as "Me" in Contacts after the install (I still don't know how.) But after I changed me to me, the alert email address were mine.

  • E-mail setup for Microsoft Outlook running on iMac

Took delivery new iMac and set up mail account under Apple "Mail" app.  Subsequently installed Microsoft Outlook for Mac.  Entered details for my main mail account which were the same details entered in Apple Mail account.  I am unable to send mail from Outlook app, but can receive mail.  Have checked settings several times and see no difference from Apple Mail which send mail just fine.  For Microsoft Outlook, when I enter an e-mail message and then hit the send button, the message just disappears and does not show up in sent folder.  Any idea on how to fix appreciated.

Go to their configuration instructions on the website and follow them, they do not seem to have been updated since Mountain Lion but should still be valid. Set the account up manually in Outlook.
