PresentModalViewController and short viewt

I'm trying to emulate what Safari does on the iphone when the user selects a drop-down-box form item. Safari animates a view onto the screen with a UIPickerView on it. The modal picker view takes up the lower half of the screen, and the user can still see the web page in the upper half.
I figured I could just use PresentModalViewController. Indeed, this looked promising. I present my custom UIViewController-derived object with a custom view that is itself transparent (opaque=NO, backgroundColor=clearColor) yet hosts my picker control.
The view animates into position nicely. But then the top half turns white, and the view behind it disappears.
I've played with this for a while and can't figure out what's going on. Is this just not going to work?
I've found one similar post in this forum, unanswered.
Ideas?
Any samples using PresentModalViewController? I haven't found any.

Yeah, I posted on this exact topic http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1616858&tstart=210 sometime ago that went unanswered.
This is just one of a few things that Apple does in their apps that they do not share with their developers (like gradients in text, access to calendar view, and pickerviews that function as action sheets). I guess they save some uniqueness for their own apps (like MS).
Two conclusions.
One, the best and most elegant way to do this is probably not "manually" but to create a subclass once (of pickerview???, of action sheet???). If someone does this, let me know.
Two, this forum is basically worthless as there is no active community of iPhone developers willing to share what they've learned, there are no volunteer MVPs like in MANY Windows forums, and Apple hosts this forum but nothing else (even MS has their own developers frequent their forums). And it is NOT because it is still too early or that the NDA for SDK is still in force. With all of their problems, Apple just has not got around to freeing up developers (and book publishing).

After updating to ios 7.1 my iPhone 5s battery *****. It takes longer to charge and shorter to finish.

3 months back I upgraded from iPhone 4s to 5s and realised 4s is a much better phone. It gave me longer battery life of around 8.30 hrs of usage on 2g and 7 hrs on 3G but 5s was giving me only 7 hours of usage on 2g and 5 hours on 3g but since I've updated it to ios 7.1 my battery ***** even more. It takes longer to charge and shorter to drain. Now I get only 4 hours usage on 2g and somewhat 3hrs roughly on 3G and it takes around 3 hours to charge where awe it used to take only 100 minutes perfectly. I don't know what's wrong with apple. I was a huge apple fan when I had my 4s but now I'm disappointed. But worst thing comes last night, I usually lose around 10% due to my network's pop up messages overnight but last night i lost 37%. When I got up and checked usage it shows me 6 hrs 30 minutes usage but I haven't used my phone since I was sleeping. Hope a new update releases soon to patch this but till that some advices on saving battery would be appreciated, thank you.

Please be more specific. What have you tried already? Please follow the below steps as described also in another topic by Nathan.
1. Hard reset hold both buttons until Apple logo appears.
2. Restore from an iTunes sync and backup. This made a difference for a lot of peopel, battery life got much better.
3. Limit push notifications (apps and e-mail accounts - set e.g. e-mail to fetch once an hour) to those you really need.
4. Limit location services to those you really need, and watch to see if the indicator comes up.
5. Get the app System Activity Monitor to look for a runaway process that is using a lot of CPU.
6. Suggestion by others to reset all settings.
7. Suggestion by others that iCloud may be involved, and to try to turn off some iCloud settings.
8. Limit or turn off 'background app refresh'.
9. Add apps back in carefully to identify an offending app that is causing CPU or network activity that kills battery life.
10 Also make sure that e-mail is fetched (e.g. every hour) or set to manual instead of pushed.
11 Do you have a good carrier reception? Have you tried to manual set your carrier within your iPhone instead of the 'automatic'?
12 Have you checked if the timezone is set to manual instead of automatic and see if this makes a difference in battery use?
In my case it was a bug with an app that caused the battery drain. I also noticed that the use and stand-by time were exactly the same which is ofcourse not correct. This was all caused by this app which was using GPS tracking all the time. Unfortunately an app such as System Activity Monitor did not indicate that in my case but someone posted this solution on a Dutch forum that the previous version of the app 'Scoupy' had a bug and caused this battery drain.
If you haven't tried every single one of these, please do not post that battery life is terrible.

First thing to do is to change the default camera profile applied in Lightroom to camera standard (assuming that you shoot Canon or Nikon). Also make sure that your camera is NOT set up to use any of the HDR modes. Nikon calls those Active Dynamic Lighting. On Canons you often see things like highlight priority mode or "Auto Lighting Optimizer". Make sure that the picture style is set to standard and that for newer Canons the HDR mode is turned off. Most of the HDR modes simply underexpose the image and then add an instruction in the raw file to compensate for this to prevent highlights from being blown out. This causes more noise in the shadows and if you know what you are doing there is no point to this as you should simply expose correctly and get the highest quality raw.
Lastly, make sure that in Lightroom you have not checked "Apply Auto Tone Adjustments" in Preferences->Presets. This should make the default rendering of the raw files the same as the in-camera jpeg (what the camera shows on the back even if you shoot raw) but still give you all the latitude of raw files.

Alert description and short text

Hi Masters,
I configured BPM alerts in my scenario with alert category define in ALRTCATDEF and I have selected dynamic test. I am getting the alert and long text as I given in BPM alert message that is good. But in my alert, message description and Short text is displaying as ' Process <xxxxxxx>'.
So can I get the same message as long text in messsage description and short text and how to change the description.
Please help me to find out the soultion for this

Equivalent rect long and short sides

Not so sure if anybody else already came across this problem or not. Any suggestion is welcome.
I have a simple isolated object to be fitted into an ideal rectangle which will then be used for a metrology purpose in following step. I was trying to make use of the equivalent rect long and shot sides from particle analysis operation, but it seems the particle analysis always gives a same value to the long side and short side. Attached picture shows the calculation results from vision assistant. I tried to calculate the equivalent rect sides from the given area and perimeter. The results tends to become complex values as the perimeter seems smaller than it should be(i.e.. P^2 smaller than 16*A). It may be one reason to produce same value to equivalent rect long and short side.
PS: the expression for calculation of equivalent rect long and short side in the page: http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/372916L-01/nivisionconcepts/particle_measurements/ seems not right. It should be (P-sqrt(P^2-16A))/4, rather than P/4-sqrt(P^2-16A).

I am assuming you are using the latest version of Vision Assistant 2011 SP1.
I would just like to clarify what you are trying to achieve. This is to measure the long and short (length and width) side of a rectangular shape in your image by using:
Processing Functions: Binary >> Particle analysis
Something I could suggest is to play around with a more definative rectangle and see if this helps. I have tried using a rectangle and the measurements have come out fine.
The shape you are measuring happens to have the same size dimensions i.e. a square.
Where are you acquiring your image from? And are you expecting it to be a square?
With regards to the formulas being incorrect I will look into this for you.

Technical names and short text

I know there is a posibility to display technical names beside short text name when selecting content from a drop-down box. For example, when i want to select a material type in transaction MM01 I want it to show me both, technical name and short text of each material type. I know each user has to have this option activated somewhere but dont know where. Do anyone of you know? Thanks

Click the "Customizing of local layout" icon on the main application toolbar. It is the icon all the way to the right. Choose "Options". Choose the "Expert" Tab. Click the checkbox for "Show Keys in all dropdown lists".

It's likely that one of your login items is causing the problem. Select the Login Items tab in the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences. Delete any items that you don't recognize. If you're not sure which ones to delete, double-click each to test it.

This is close. I did a bit more digging I have found a few more things. It appears that the input dialog is a read once on connect and then it never updates. I had my iPhone connected to my Mac when I did my convert from FILMiC Pro to my Camera Roll. Just on a whim, I dissconnected my iPhone with FCPX open and then connected it again. This time when I opened up the Import window the movie I converted showed up. It appears my issue may have simply been related to the specific series of operations that I happened to use at the time I was trying to perform an import to FCPX.
One last item of note. There is a movie in my Camera Roll that FCPX still does not see. This was a movie shot by my son-in-law of my grandaughter on his iPhone and then it was sent, via message, to my iPhone. Obviously it is a highly compressed video of unknown compression and frame rate. Regardless, FCPX does not see this video. I'm guessing it is not a .mov quicktime file but some other format specific to imessage video.

Settings --> General --> Accessibility --> Invert Colours
is the setting you might have changed.

Storyboard and short List

In a trailer is their anyway to get reed of the unused blank areas where you drag your clips to in storyboard and short list?

As I mentioned in one of your other posts, the Trailers are structured such that everything is timed perfectly down to the final frame. The music is designed to exactly match the duration of the video. You could try leaving out one or two of the suggested shots to see what happens, but my guess is that it would mess up the whole structure.
If you want to make your own changes to the shape of the Trailer, such as changing the duration, number of shots, music etc., then you need to do as I described in that other post - that is, duplicate the Trailer then convert it to a normal project. I understand that you can then make any changes you desire, including transitions, fonts, etc. Bear in mind I haven't tested this, so have a go and see how things pan out. The Trailers are very short, so it doesn't take long to construct, duplicate and convert them.

As in, shortly after install?
Note after you install Mountain Lion it's likely that the Spotlight index will be rebuilt. This will take some time and the machine will run hot. After this completes, which could take 1-2 hours, things should return more to normal.
If they don't, I suggest running Activity Monitor and seeing if you can trace what is eating up CPU cycles.

alright, this is the first time i have had this issue.
only thing on the computer that was changed recently was a windows update yesterday, it came up automatically, shut the computer down, and restarted automatically. Java has wanted to update for a couple days
if its worth anything, the error came up when i was watching instant streaming on netflix.

gave me a warning message that hard disk drive failure was eminant, and adviced me to back up everything. computer seems to be functioning normal other than the error/warning message.
when i restarted the computer and ran the test that comes up i ended up with this, it says it may take over an hour, but this comes up after about a minute.

You need to replace your hard drive. You should be able to purchase the parts on the notebook's HP Parts Surfer Page.
Had you previously created any Recovery Media such as a thumbdrive? Without this you'll be unable to reinstall the operating system when you replace your hard drive.
