Prevent PDFs from opening in browser?

Is it possible to prevent a PDF (that I create) from opening in a user's browser?
I am exporting an InDesign file with hyperlinks. There does not seem to be a way within InDesign to specify that hyperlinks open in a new window. If the user's browser opens the PDF, then when they click the links they will populate the same window that the PDF occupied. I know there is a way in Acrobat to code buttons that will open in a new window, but this means re-coding dozens of these ocurrences within a 20-page PDF every time I make a change to the InDesign file.
If the PDF opens in Acrobat Reader, then this problem is solved.
But is this something that can be controlled on my end? I tried setting the export presets in InDesign to un-check Optimize for Fast Web View but that didn't work.
Any ideas are appreciated!

That is a user setting that can't be controlled.

    OK... I'm still puzzled. There seems to be something else that controls whether Acrobat JavaScript runs or not.

  • How do I prevent Mail from opening when I click an email address in Safari?

    My wife and I both use Yahoo! Mail. Neither of us uses the Mail app to manage our email. How do I prevent Mail from opening when we click an email address in Safari?  Is it possible to direct Safari to open a separate web browser prompting us to log in to our Yahoo! Mail?

    Hmm.. probably not.
    You want to open Mail. Then go into Preferences > General and you will see something similar to this:
    In the area marked Default Mail reader click on the pull down and at the bottom of the list it will say Other. You can see if you can select Safari here and if that will open up Safari.
    Good luck.

    I have recently migrated from a macbook with 10.6 to a macbook air with 10.7. I used migration assistant via wifi.
    The problem arises both on newly downloaded images as well as images that were transferred via migration assistant.
    The file permission is 755, and File->View permissions looks perfectly fine.
    Any idea what is causing this and how to I prevent this from happening again?

    Hi Linc,
    thank you for the suggestion, but unfortunately it did not help. For the top directory, and all subsequent directories, I have read&write (755) permissions, as well as for the files that i can not open.
    This appears to happen randomly. Some directories are affected, some are not, and it appears to happen to all files in certain directories.
    Interestingly, if I control-click and select e.g. Explorer, I can view the image. Also, if I copy the file to my Desktop, I can also view the image. So it only happens to Preview in certain directories.

  • Outlook Integration add in prevents outlook from opening

    Hi All,
    When the outlook integration executable (BO_SyncExt.exe) is running it prevents outlook from opening. Outlook just sits there saying loading user profile all the time. When the process is killed via task manager outlook opens. The issue seems to be intermittent, we've tried the usual uninstalling, re-installing, rebuilding the machine etc. it didn't work.
    The problem doesn't happen on machines using office 2003 or 2007, only on Office 2010 (32 bit).
    SAP version 8.8 PL20.
    Any ideas what this might be?
    Many Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi Jimmy,
    it is 32-bit MS Office, I have had this issue both on 8.82 PL05 (Windows 7 32-bit) and PL07 (Win2008 R2 server 64-bit).
    The Outlook Integration log shows some strange entries without error description:
    2012-07-23 15:24:30  E  CBO_AddIn::OnConnection  ERROR: **************************************************************************
    2012-07-23 16:36:01  E  CBO_AddIn::OnConnection  ERROR: **************************************************************************
    2012-07-23 16:38:33  E  CBO_GUIControl::ReleaseGUIControl  ERROR: Exception in closing the Outlook...
    2012-07-23 16:39:13  E  CBO_AddIn::OnDisconnection  ERROR: ############################################################################
    2012-07-23 18:23:27  E  CBO_AddIn::OnConnection  ERROR: **************************************************************************
    After this error (Exception in closing the Outlook...) I assume that the Outlook.exe hangs, therefore when opening Excel, I get an error message like 'Failed to open log file', so probably the hung Outlook.exe locks the log file. Of course opening Outlook isn't possible in that status.
    After closing the process Outlook.exe, I can start Outlook again and Excel doesn't throw any error message. Nevertheless I tried also to run BO_SyncExt.exe in compatibility mode, I will observe this issue now.
    Thanks
    Sebastian

  • How do I prevent iTunes from opening when I pug in my iPod?

    How do i prevent tunes from opening when i plug in my ipod?

    This will occur when there are photos and/or videos in the Camera Roll, which should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera.
    Depending on the iPhoto version you are running, this can be done via iPhoto preferences > connected camera opens > select no application.

  • Something called "television fanatic plugin" which seems to have come with the Safari upgrade is preventing me from opening Safari.  Help

    Something called "television fanatic plugin" which seems to have come with the upgrade to Safari 5.1 is preventing me from opening Safari.  I cannot find it on my computer.  What do I have to do to eliminate it and be able to open Safari?

    If the software doesn't have an uninstall feature, quit Safari and try manually removing the third-party add-on files. These files are usually installed in one or more of the following locations:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
    /Library/Input Methods/
    /Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/ScriptingAdditions
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
    ~/Library/Input Methods/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/ScriptingAdditions
    The first four locations listed are in the root-level Library on your hard disk, not the user-level Library in your Home folder.The tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
    To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library.

  • Can you prevent a pdf from opening if a user has javascript disabled?

    I have code that is important to always be running in a pdf file for corporate security reasons.  I understand some users may choose not to allow scripting which is fine but in those cases I do not want the user to be allowed to open the file.  Is there a way to prevent the file from opening if javascript is disabled?
    Thanks in advance.

    No. However, you can have a layer covering the content of the file which can be made hidden using JS code when the file is opened.
    But the user will still be able to hide the layer manually.

  • AIR Preventing me from opening a pdf file

    When I receive pdf files via email or attach one of my own pdf files to an email, I am unable to open the pdf file. I get a message indicating 'Please wait while Adobe AIR setup is being executed', then the bar that says 'processing Adobe AIR'. It reaches 100% and then nothing else happens. The pdf file is not opened. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe AIR, and nothing changes. Then I tried uninstalling AIR and not reinstalling it, and all my pdf files still get the same message 'Please wait while Adobe AIR setup is being executed'. When I publish my WordPerfect documents to pdf, I can open the pdf file using Adobe 9.3 because it gives me the option to "open with"; however, pdf's that I receive via email, I'm not given the option of what program to open it with. My only option is to "open". I need to either get rid of the annoying AIR so that all my pdf files open with Adobe 9.3, or get the AIR to work properly. Can anyone help???? Thanks!

    This forum is for AIR Help, not help with the AIR application. AIR is a development tool that allows developers to create applications. One such application being a means of providing the help for software. So it is AIR that is causing your problem, not AIR Help.
    With that said, I happened to see someone who had a bad install of AIR that was causing a different problem, namely every time the PC was booted Explorer opened to the folder with the setup file. In the end I installed it and then uninstalled it. Then did the same with Acrobat and all was well.
    Maybe you can find the AIR setup or you can look in Add / Remove Programs and work from there.
    Beyond that I suggest you ask in the correct forum, either Acrobat Reader or AIR, most likely the first.

  • Force PDF to open in browser to preserve relative links?

    We have thousands of PDF files that are set up to include relative links within the document to other PDF files. The issue we're having is that when people have set up their browser to open the PDF as a separate application, the relative links revert to their C drive/temporary internet files and break (the link looks something like this: file:///C|/Users/callen2/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/Temporary%20Internet%20Files/Cont ent.IE5/purchased_systems.pdf). Is there any way to force the PDF to open within the browser so that the relative links continue to work?
    If not, is there a way to do a blanket conversion of the links from a relative link to an absolute link so we don't have to go into each document and link separately?

    Hi
    You need to set Browser File Handling  to
    Permissive.
    Open Central Administration -> Manage Web Applications -> Select web application -> General Settings >>
    Browser File Handling >> set to Permissive .

  • Acrobat Javascript button not loading when PDF is opened in browser

    We have a requirement to have a custom print button in Acrobat Reader 9.1.3. We've created this via a JavaScript file stored in the users application data Adobe javascript folder. The button appears when Acrobat is started up normally and works as expected. However when opening a pdf file via Internet Explorer 7  acrobat is loaded inside the browser but the button does not appear automatically. Instead we need to right click on the tool bar and select Add on tools for the button to appear. Once loaded it works as expected.
    Now I was wondering is there a way to make the button to appear automatically when acrobat is launched from within IE as my users are getting a bit annoyed now. I've been searching all over the place and can't find a solution to this.
    Am hoping someone here might have an idea as to what the problem might be. I've attached the code I'm using below.
    Thanks in advance
    app.addToolButton({
    cName: "myToolButton",
    cExec: "printGreen()",
    cEnable: true,
    cTooltext: "Print to Green",
    cLabel: "Print to Green"
    global.objDoc = this;
    printGreen = app.trustedFunction (
    function()
    app.beginPriv();
    var objPrintParams = this.getPrintParams();
    objPrintParams.printerName = "\\\\burns\\prn-cash-copier";
    objPrintParams.interactive = objPrintParams.constants.interactionLevel.automatic;
    this.print(objPrintParams);
    app.endPriv();

  • Display PDF on opening new browser

    Hi Experts,
    Requriement: We need to open a new browser for dispalying PDF format converted from custome smartform. Currently I am able to view the PDF format on a new screen with the following code, but user want to see the same PDF format on new browser so that they can toggle between the screens for comparing data.
    Your answers would be really helpful. Please guide me how to achieve this through ABAP, we are using 4.7 version.
    Current code looks like this
    *--- convert OTF data
      IF sy-subrc EQ 0.
        CALL FUNCTION 'CONVERT_OTF'
          EXPORTING
            format                = 'PDF'

        CALL METHOD gv_html_viewer->show_url
          EXPORTING
            url = lv_url.
    Regards,
    Suman

    What you can do is create a new program just to display the PDF and attached a transaction code to it. In your main program, call the FM ABAP4_CALL_TRANSACTION ... STARTING NEW TASK to call it in the new session.
    You may use the FM DY_IS_EXTRA_IMODE_AVAILABLE before starting a new session to check if any session available.
    CALL FUNCTION 'ABAP4_CALL_TRANSACTION'
      STARTING NEW TASK 'ZZ01'    " << Task Name
      EXPORTING
        tcode                         = 'ZZ01'.  "  << New Tcode
