Prevented Reinstall of iTunes

I upgraded my iPhone from 3Gs to 4s and when I was activating iTunes started acting funny.  It downloaded program update while I was in the middle of activating.  I unistalled iTunes and when I tried to re-install it says that I have a later version already installed on the machine???  Help!

I unistalled iTunes and when I tried to re-install it says that I have a later version already installed on the machine???
Doublechecking before proceeding. It's saying that a later version of iTunes is already installed? (Several different programs can be mentioned in the context of that error during an iTunes install: iTunes itself, Bonjour, Apple Software Update, etc.)

  • How to do a clean reinstall of iTunes?

My problem is that today when trying to clean up my iTunes library I accidentally erased all music from my Mac (oops).
So now I have +60GB of mp3s on my 5G iPod and am very scared of losing it all.
How do I do a clean reinstall of iTunes, then re-connect my iPod all my music will copy into iTunes?
Thank you in advance for your help!

A 'clean' install will not help you.
What ever you do - do not plug in your iPod or iTunes will update and erase the iPod.
Plug in your iPod and hold down the 'Option' +  Keys at the same time until the iPod appears in the Devices section of iTunes. This will prevent iTunes from updating the iPod.
You can also use the following to recover your tunes from the iPod. Senuti - http://www.fadingred.org/senuti/ or Podworks at - http://www.scifihifi.com/podworks/

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Reinstalled Windows/iTunes, Lost most iTunes Apps, etc.

I just upgraded a computer from Windows XP to Windows 7 and thus, did a clean install. I then reinstalled my iTunes and re-set up my iPhone 3GS sync. All is well except that most of my apps disappeared. Not all, mind you. Several apps that i "purchased" (most were free) showed up, but not all of them included a couple that I purchased and paid money for. Is there an easy way to get them back. They were on my iphone before I resync'd it with the new iTunes, and I did transfer all purchases before doing the sync. However, now they are neither on my iPhone nor in iTunes. Thanks.

The sad truth I have discovered, however, unless I'm missing something, is that when you switch computers or iphones, then you will pretty much lose stuff.
If you simply expect to plug in your device to a new computer and have everything appear, then okay.
However, since you maintain good, up-to-date backups of all your data, it is very simple to transfer to a new comuter.
Even if you don't have good backups, there are applications which will extract most info from the iPod and sync it to a new computer (but I would not rely on these as the only way to get the data).
iTunes is unbelievably picky about sync'ing with more than one device
    Just the opposite.
It's very simple to sync more than one device (iPod, touch or iPhone) to iTunes and to have specific info sync'd to a specific device.

  • I have deleted iPhoto from my MacBook Air. When I try to reinstall it, itunes tries to charge me. Is there a way to reinstall the old version for free?

I have deleted iPhoto from my MacBook Air. When I try to reinstall it, itunes tries to charge me. Is there a way to reinstall the old version for free?

depening on what OS you're running you should be able to reinstall it without charge since it's part of the operating system. if running 10.6.8 or earlier you will need to use the applications install disc if there is one or if you only have one disc you can put it in and do a reinstall of the OS which will put the iphoto back on. if running 10.7 or 10.8 can sign into the app store w/ the same apple id that is associated w/ the mac and it should show in your purchases for you to reinstall it. you may need to click on the accept button if it appears next to the iphoto in your purchase listing.

  • Why Might Data Execution Prevention Be Closing iTunes 11.2.0.115?

I don’t own any Apple hardware and only use iTunes to listen to songs I purchased in the iTunes store that only work in iTunes. I started noticing problems when I updated to version 11.2.0.115 today. The “iTunes.exe” process remains in the “Processes” list of my Windows Task Manager for about 30 seconds after I exit the program. A balloon then appears in my taskbar saying Data Execution Prevention has closed iTunes. Windows Help and Support suggests seeing if a DEP-compatible version is available before turning DEP off for the program. I’m using Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2 32-bit. What, if anything, can I do?

I fixed it on my computer.  Not sure which of the steps I did fixed it so I will list all of them.
I wasn't getting the error until I did the following (to prevent it from just crashing on logging into the iTunes Store)
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/23987910#23987910
I added C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support; to the system variables PATH (depending on your operating system, your file path will be different).  How to do that has been outlined in the above linked article.
This now caused DEP to freak out whenever I logged into the store and close iTunes.  Adding iTunes to the DEP filter didn't solve the problem.  So I removed all the saved system settings for iTunes and ran Apple Software Update.  I also went to the DEP and added every .exe I could find in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple to the exceptions list (again, depending on your OS the file path may be different.)
To remove the saved system settings for iTunes you can find those in C:\Documents and Settings (for Win XP) or C:\Users (for Win 8).  Find a folder named AppData or Application data under various user names and remove any Apple related files you can.  I had one .log file that couldn't be deleted, but that shouldn't be a problem.

(No problem about not spotting the solutions ... the most common causes of this sort of message changes over time, so it's not straightforward to be able to tell when a given piece of advice still applies to the symptoms. Definitely worth posting to try to get a current heads-up on the likely contemporary causes of a particular error message.)

i'm having issues with reinstalling my itunes.it says that my apple mobile device faild to start and will not go any further

    Hey there CrazyTC,
It sounds like you are unable to re install iTunes because the Apple Mobile Device service failed to start. Try restarting it with the following article:
How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1567
    Windows Vista or Windows 7
Close iTunes and disconnect the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Click the Windows Start button .
In the Start Search field type Services.
In the Programs section of the search results, Click "Services".
Select Apple Mobile Device and click Stop the service as shown below:
After the service has stopped, click Start the service.
After the Apple Mobile Device service has started again, open iTunes and connect the device.
Then if the issue is resolved, set the service to start Automatically with the same article.
If it is still not working, use these steps from the same article to completely uninstall iTunes and its associated applications and install a fresh copy.
Remove and reinstall iTunes and AMDS
If the issue continues after restarting AMDS, then you'll need to remove and reinstall AMDS and iTunes.
Completely uninstall AMDS, iTunes, and all Apple software. Click the appropriate links below for steps:
    Windows XP
Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    Restart the computer.
Download and install (or reinstall) the latest version of iTunes from www.apple.com/itunes. Installing iTunes will also install AMDS.
    Restart the computer.
Start iTunes and connect the device. It should be recognized properly in Windows.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling
