Preview thumbnail wont update.

The following is for Adobe Illustrator CS4 SDK on a MAC.
In the  following code.  I export a document with multiple layers as an AI  file.  Then I delete a layer and export the document again under a new  name.
In the example below the first file is called OriginalFile and the  second is called DeletedLayerFile.  In the OriginalFile the preview  image that is displayed in the Finder of OSX matches the actual contents  of the file.  In DeletedLayerFile the preview image will show a  thumbnail of OriginalFile but the actual contents of the file will be  different (they have a deleted layer).  I cannot figure out why the  preview image persists across these edited files. And ideas?!?
ASErr PlayNativeExport(SPBasicSuite *basic,char* newName);
void  Example()
   AILayerHandle tempLayer;
    PlayNativeExport(message->d.basic, "OriginalFile");               //export the original file
    sAILayers->GetNthLayer(0,&tempLayer);                                 //get the top  layer
    sAILayers->DeleteLayer(tempLayer);                                       //delete the top layer
    PlayNativeExport(message->d.basic,"DeletedLayerFile");       //export the file without the top layer (preview image shows top layer still there!!!!)
} ASErr  PlayNativeExport(SPBasicSuite *basic,char* newName)
     AIActionParamValueRef valueParameterBlock1 = NULL;
     AIActionManagerSuite *sAIActionManager;
    ASErr error =  basic->AcquireSuite(kAIActionManagerSuite,kAIActionManagerSuiteVersion,(const  void**)&sAIActionManager);
    if(error == kNoErr)
         ASErr result = sAIActionManager->AINewActionParamValue(&valueParameterBlock1);
        if (valueParameterBlock1)
             result = sAIActionManager->AIActionSetString(valueParameterBlock1,kAIExportDocumentNameKey,newName );
             result = sAIActionManager->AIActionSetString(valueParameterBlock1,kAIExportDocumentFormatKey,  kAINativeFileFormat);
            result = sAIActionManager->AIActionSetString(valueParameterBlock1,kAIExportDocumentExtensionKey,kA INativeFileFormatExtension);
             result = sAIActionManager->AIActionSetBoolean(valueParameterBlock1,kAINativeCompressionKey,true);
             result = sAIActionManager->AIActionSetBoolean(valueParameterBlock1,kAINativePDFCompatibilityKey,tr ue);//when false, no preview at all
             result = sAIActionManager->AIActionSetInteger(valueParameterBlock1,kAINativeVersionKey,14);
             result = sAIActionManager->AIActionSetInteger(valueParameterBlock1,kAINativeScriptKey,1);
             result = sAIActionManager->AIActionSetInteger(valueParameterBlock1,kAINativeIncludeImagesKey,0);
             result = sAIActionManager->AIActionSetReal(valueParameterBlock1,kAINativeSubsetFontsRatioKey,100.0 );
             result = sAIActionManager->AIActionSetInteger(valueParameterBlock1,kAINativeEmbedProfileKey,0);
            if(result == 0)
                result =  sAIActionManager->PlayActionEvent(kAIExportDocumentAction,kDialogOff,valueParameterBlock1 );
             if(result != 0)
                error = result;
    basic->ReleaseSuite(kAIActionManagerSuite,kAIActionManagerSuiteVersion);
     return error;

Okay... Couldn't find anything in the documentation that updates the layer list other than the notifier that AP suggested.  A simple "sNotifier->Notify(kAILayerSetNotifier, message);" didn't seem to do the trick either.
Upon some simplified testing... Just deleting the layer and nothing else actually does delete the layer.  BUT.... deleting a layer and then immediately exporting an ai version of the file causes strange behavior.  As I said before, you get an exported file with a preview image that shows all the original layers, but the file does not actually contain the deleted layer.  AND when control is turned back to illustrator, all the original layers are still there.  It's as if illustrator deletes the layer from the document but not the list, then does the export which interupts the deletion, then when it gets control back it updates the document based on the list of layers and so it returns to it's previous state.  So weird.
You think there's a way to make it finish the deletion job before moving on to the export?

  • Preview Thumbnails not updating.

    My normal way of processing photos is to preview a folder in Bridge, from Bridge open a photo in camera raw and process it there. If I'm not using that image immediately, I simply close it when I'm finished processing. Then I'm back in Preview mode in Bridge and I can see the photograph that I processed and the changes that were made. I've been processing photos from several cameras this way for years.
    However, I'm using a new camera system. Lumix GH3. When I preview and process photos from this camera, the thumbnails are never updated with the processed image. They always show the original one. Even if I close that folder and reopen it in Bridge, I still don't have a preview of the processed images. If I reopen the photo in Camera Raw or Photoshop, sure enough, I can see the changes, the photo IS processed. But those changes never show up in the preview thumbnails.
    At first I thought this was the particular SD card, which was new to me and supplied by the camera store where I purchased the Lumix. But I've tried several now, all with the same result.
    Any ideas??

    It might be cache related, for test select one of the files that did not show the updated changes and with right click mouse menu choose purge cache for selection.
    But a second thought is that you don't use the latest updates for both Bridge (should be 5.0.2.4) and PS (should be 13.1.2) and this causes the troubled behavior.
    And it might be the combination of both

  • Image preview (thumbnail) help request

    I'm a recent convert from PC to the new imac *LOVE IT!* However, I'm very accustomed to the beautiful little option in windows to preview thumbnails of image files within their folders, WITHOUT opening them in a program to view them... this does not seem possible in OSX. Is there another program I can get to help with this... er something. I'm a digital artist, and I have MANY resources files (i.e. textures, vector files, etc.). I need to be able to preview what they are without having to open 8,000 images in another program just to find the ONE that I need.
    * iphoto is NOT the answer to this. It does not read my .psd or .ai files properly to preview. *
    PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!
    Thanks,
    Charli

    Sorry to tag in, but I have wreid question hope you can help:
    This is post on this forums on Oct-05-2007, but nobody since has any suggestion.
    I have the following:
    A. MBP is Intel base Core 2 Due.
    B. All the software version are the most updated.
    C. Canon IDsMKII, with all Canon software up to date on July-2007.
    D. PS3, il3.
    E. No other image program.
    My old iMac is ok to copy Canon Raw file directly from the CF card and have correct thumbnail orientation. But not now anymore!
    Before Aug 2007, not exact date, I import, download or copy from the CF card with following method to my new MBP:
    1. Copy direct from the CF card, which don't have the correct orientation thumdnail.
    2. So I use Canon's CameraWindow to import the RAW file, which can creata correct orientation thumbnail. Also have a very tiny preview icon in the colume list.
    3. But this couple days all the Raw file for JPG that I put in the MBP only have landscape thumbnail. The previous import file still OK with correct thumbnail orientation.
    4. For JPG, I need to open and save by PS3 without modify then it will have correct orientation thumbnail. But no luck for Raw file.
    I tried to re-boot the MBP with hold down the apple + control + P + R as suggested by Apple to clear up whatever in the memory. But no luck.
    However, any file that I stored in NAS that was copied previously with correct orientation thumbnail will have the following effect:
    1. I copy them back from NAS to MBP's desktop then the thumbnail will become landscape.
    2. If I move them from the desktop to a folder, then the thumbnail will back to their correct orientation. Then I move it back to desktop, it shows correct.
    So I think, somehow the update OS 10.4... do not read the data from the Raw file.
    Any comment.

  • Preview Thumbnails not displaying...

    I am working with CS3 Bridge 1.0.0.545, running OS 10.4.11 on an iMac
    Whenever I launch Bridge, I get an error message telling me that there is a problem with the database, and "......" was not updated correctly. This may affect searches (see attachment Picture 10).
    I have no choice but to click OK, and then I am unable to see any preview thumbnails. All folders appearing in the left panel are displaying as though they are empty, even though they contain files.  (see attachment Picture 16)
    So I am always told that there are no items to display.
    These same files display perfectly in Bridge CS3, on my computer at the office....
    This is getting very frustrating....Any suggestions?

    I am working with CS2 Bridge (not CS3), and the version number is as I typed the first time (1.0.0.545)
    That version of Bridge is known to damage and even disappear files.  Update to to Bridge 1.0.4.6 ASAP.  It's a free update.
    While you're at it, make sure you have updated to Photoshop 9.0.2.
    Once you have updated, you will need to Purge the Cache through the Tools menu in Bridge.

    Also, I would like to edit my posting, and change the info to CS2, but I can't seem to figure out how to edit the info...

  • Is it too late to modify preview thumbnails once beforeSave event fires?

    My goal:
    I need to show non-printing layers in my .indd files' preview thumbnails. We produce print jobs which will have post processing applied to them (thermography and cutouts glued to the printed cardstock). Our .indd files have layers containing these post production images so that we can determine proper alignment and spacing for the end product.
    These are graphics are placed in non-printing layers so that they do not print. However InDesign generates preview thumbnails which do not contain these non-printing images. This is a problem for us because we can not tell the nuanced difference between similar indd files soley by their preview images.
    Therefore my goal is to somehow include these non-printing layers in the image preview thumbnail.
    What I have done thus far:
    I have a startup script which registers for the beforeSave and afterSave events. Before the same it marks all the non-printing layers are printable (printable property = true). Then the afterSave event undoes this by setting those layers back to non-printable. I track which layer was originally non-printing by adding a moniker to the layer's name.
    What is not working:
    When I run a script that marks the layers as printable, saves then undoes the printable changes everything works perfectly. The preview thumbnail is exactly what I want.
    However, when I run it as a startup script registering for the beforeSave/afterSave events this fails:
    Success: The beforeSave does correctly update the printable property then modifies the layer's name. This is as expected and working well.
    Success:The afterSave does correctly reset the printable property and modified the layer's name. This is as expected and working well.
    Failure: The file's preview thumbnail does not reflect the printable=true peroperty of the affected layers.
    My Question:
    From what I outline above it looks as if the preview image is determined before the beforeSave event fires.
    Question 1: Is this true?
    Question 2: How can I affect the layers' printable properties once a save occurs?
    As a last resort I could intercept any CTRL+S keystroke or the File-->Save menu option and call my original script (as I describe above). I would like to avoid that as it is fragile and less elegant.
    Follow question: Can anyone show me what the actual work flows are for these events? For example what does InDesign do during its save function and at what points does it trigger beforeSave and afterSave events?

    I also tried a different approach which worked:
    Added two event listeners to the "Save" MenuAction object. One for "beforeInvoke" and one for "afterInvoke". This worked and I now have correctly rendered preview thumbnails. However .....
    ....when the afterInvoke event fires and I update the layers to reflect their non-printing state and change their names back to normal this is reflected as if I have made alterations. Therefore the file is left in a "dirty" state thus wanting to be saved (the document's title has an * indicating changes were made). The document's "modified" property is read only so I can not forcibly change it. I can change set the Document.properties['modified'] to false without error, but either it does not take or it is instantly reset.
    This is a problem because when I exit the app it sees that there have been changes since the last save. Therefore it wants to save the doc. Saying "yes" to save the doc means that the "save" function is called but not from the Save menu. Therefore my MenuAction handers are not invoked. My beforeSave/afterSave handlers are but this does not function as I would expect (see my original post).
    Can someone please help with this? Maybe some kind soul from Adobe who understands the event firing workflow??

  • How to rebuild previews (thumbnails) in library (lightroom 1.0)?

    After installing the back-up file of my Lightroom-library, the previews (thumbnails) of pictures in my library became 'blank'.
    The settings of the pictures are still intact, but the previews of the photo's are gone. Does anybody know how I can rebuild the previews?

    Normally, the thumbnails should be rendered automatically. You can force the preview rendering process by choosing Render Standard-sized or Render 1:1 Previews from Library menu. However, before running either of these commands you will want to delete the file with named  Lightroom Previews.lrdata
    Above assumes that nothing untoward has happened since you created the backup Library. Do you see a ? badge on the top right corner of thumbnails? If yes then the blank thumbnails will be due to the catalog pointing at photos that it can no longer locate. Not being able to locate the photos will likely be as a result of you moving them since the backup Library was created. If this is the case you will need to relink the photos to the backup Library
    You'll also want to update to Lightroom 1.4.1

  • Preview thumbnail settings

    I've noticed some curious behavior with image thumbnails...
    If one user rotates an image in Preview (like 90 degrees so it's landscape and not portrait) and saves it, it will update the image thumbnail to represent this. But transfer that file to another computer and the updated thumbnail will disappear, even though the file itself remains rotated when opened in Preview. There appears to be a separate thumbnails file that is created when a picture is modified in Preview, and unless this (invisible) file is transfered too you won't see the updated thumb at all. Rather annoying, especially when other software or processes only read the thumbnail for display purposes -- like posting the image to a web server image gallery.
    This behavior does not occur if the image is opened and resaved in Photoshop, which forces the thumbnail to update. I wonder what is it about Preview that causes this to happen?

    I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.

  • Can not print from preview after Lion Update

         I can't print from preview since I updated to Lion. After I hit command P or select print from the file tab preview totally freezes up and gives me the spinning wheel of death until I force quit preview. I have no issues printing from anything else, such as word, excel, web pages.  So I don't think it's a printer/driver error.  Help?

    I would still mention what printer you have and make sure you have the latest printer driver.
