Print authentication and enforce quotas

Hi-
I am running Print services on 10.6.3 server. I want to make printing available over the network, but only to a few users. To do that, I selected enforce quotas for my two print queues, am using IPP protocol, and enabled printing for two users in Workgroup Manager. When logged in on the server machine I can print without problem.
My problem is that when I am on another machine (10.6.2 on that client) and I send a print job to the server, I seem to get nowhere. It seems to me that I need to get the printing client to actually initiate authentication. My question is how do I make that happen?
I tried editing the /etc/cups/printers.conf file on the client machine to change the Device URI field from:
ipp://servername.site.net/
to:
ipp://username:[email protected]/
thinking that it would get cups on the client to ask for and then transmit authentication, but no such luck.
So... I am kind of flailing around blindly now and mostly hoping someone knows the answer and feels like helping out today!
Thanks in advance-
David

small update... after waiting for several minutes, the client printer window tells me:
"Unable to get printer status (Forbidden)!"
not terribly informative, but part of the puzzle.

  • CC'ing Quota Messages and Enforcing Quota Limits

We are in the process of setting up quotas for our users on our Exchange 2010 server.  Is there a way for the quota warning messages to be CC'd to the user's supervisor?  I feel that a lot of users will ignore these messages until their mailbox
    is full.
Also, is there a way when the mailbox is full to still accept email but not deliver it to the mailbox?  I really hate the thought of emails getting bounced back because of a full mailbox but if the user doesn't receive the emails then it would still
force them to clean up their mailbox. Then once it's cleaned up the messages would be delivered to the mailbox.
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,
Agree with Amit. I'm afraid that Exchange has no built-in function that can CC the quota warning messages to users' supervisor. Thanks for your understanding.
What's more, you can use the following cmldet to set ProhibitSendQuota and ProhibitSendReceiveQuota, please make sure the value of ProhibitSendReceiveQuota is much larger than the value of ProhibitSendQuota. If so, users can still receive emails even though
they can't send emails, then it can urge them to clean up their mailboxes.
Get-Mailbox -OrganizationalUnit "xx" | Set-Mailbox -IssueWarningQuota xxx -ProhibitSendQuota xxx -ProhibitSendReceiveQuota xxx -UseDatabaseQuotaDefaults $false
    Hope it helps.

  • MAC OS 10.9   some users cannot print to new Ricoh MP C6502   print job is holding for authentication and cannot figure out why

I have a few IMAC and G5 users who have OS10.9 who cannot print to a new Richoh MP C6502, I downloaded and installed the new PS driver and it works on some systems but I have 3 people that goes right to Hold for Authentication.   I tried deleting everything associated with this in keychain access and after I did this it comes up to enter a password and it accepts the network login credentials but still holds the print job.  I even tried using guest as login and password as someone suggested but still cannot print any ideas on why?

I apologize for the delay in responding to you.  I was on the road all day yesterday.
OK.  I switched the printer's Ethernet cable to a Linksys Switch (Model EZX S55W) that's part of this local network.  That did not work.  I swapped out the cable for one that I know works.  Still no change.  I switched the printer's Ethernet cable directly to a port on the router.  No change.  I even swapped cables here, too, but no success.
As I was doing all this, I was wondering: When I select the HP P1606dn printer in the Print and Fax "Add" dialog box, (see the image below) and the Print Using pulldown menu displays "Please select a driver or printer model" and the message "Searching for new drivers" appears under it (with the spinning wheel), why is it that the Ethernet connection to printer is critical to "finding" a new (printer) driver?
Isn't the utility searching through my system and libraries looking for a printer driver app for the printer that I identified/selected in the dialog box?
After all, if the dialog box lists the printer among those to choose from, hasn't the utility already discovered the printer via the Ethernet connection?

  • CS Print system and ML 10.8.2

My university is using CS Print (formerly sold by http://universities.cbord.com/solutions/) which I run in my 27" iMac/Mountain Lion labs on WindowsServer 2003 Dells to provide the means for students to swipe their ID cards and pay for printing. We use HP printers.
We've been using this system for a few years now, and originally getting it set up in the first of four labs nearly required a team of NASA and Cal Tech engineers an entire semester to make it work (I only exaggerate slightly). I was not involved in choosing this particular workflow, but have to somehow keep it running with the help of several people.
The early problems with this system involved students needing to authenticate multiple times on the Mac (running Snow Leopard) before the job would show up on the Dell's screen. If I changed toner in the printer or had to reboot it or the Dell, that somehow reset the system and the next person to print would need my admin password entered to unpause the printer. That would usually fix the problem for the entire lab.
We've also had students' cards give a bogus "no funds" error (or say they were many thousands of dollars in the negative), or (even to this day) the print system charges a single 10 cents regardless of number of pages printed.
My current biggest problem running Mountain Lion 10.8.1 and now 10.8.2 involves each workstation saying the printer is paused and a print operator needs to enter a password. Doing so every time someone prints is obviously impractical, but once done, it's like an enema for the print cue and a long list of jobs builds on the Dell's screen. At that point sometimes people can print the jobs, sometimes not.
The authentication problem returns repeatedly, even on the same workstations where the admin password was entered, and is causing everyone exasperation.
As a Mac person I have no patience with obsolete POS Windows software, but as I said, this is what our campus uses.
I would like to hear anyone else's experience with CS Print and how one deals with the authentication errors, especially. I understand Pharos.com makes what looks like a viable alternative (UniPrint) and would like to hear from those using it so I can pass on the info.
PS: Lion seemed to have issues with network logins which I solved by going to Mountain Lion. But even ML 10.8.2 still "Addresses an issue that may prevent Active Directory accounts from being locked out". I wonder if this is part of my problem?

Similar pause issue here, running on 10.8.2, authenticated against a Windows 2008 server, with mostly HP's on campus, and only HP's having this issue. We use PaperCut to monitor and charge for printing, however.
We're still testing, but an upgrade of the firmware on our printers has helped thus far (two days). Worth a shot.
Please keep updating - I feel better knowing we're not the only ones!

  • Print authentication problem with a shared USB printer

I'm trying to assist my brother with the setup of his new iMac i3 (running 10.6.4).  He is converting from a G5 iMac (which was, I believe, on Tiger) to the i3 and has a Canon MP610 printer.  The Canon MP610 printer has been connected via USB to the G5 with printer sharing on, and his wife has been able to print to the printer over Bonjour from her MacBook Pro  (OS 10.5.8) when it was shared via the G5.
As soon as we moved the printer to the i3, she became unable to print from the MacBook Pro, because it began putting documents on hold in the queue and requiring authentication to print.
Nothing we've tried will ether allow us to get past the authentication or get rid of the prompt.  We've deleted and re-added the printer multiple times, assured that the new i3 is the only one set up for sharing its connected printer - tried different user passwords to authenticate - we're stuck.  My brother is the sole user/administrator account on the i3, his wife is the sole administrator/user on the MacBook Pro.  The MP610 has been totally deleted from the old G5 so we don't think it is interfering.
They're in California, I'm doing remote support from Texas.  The computers and printer are all in the same room in their home.
I've read posts this morning in the community about this issue but they all reference Windows networks.. there is no Windows or mixed Windows-Mac model in our scenario.
    Please help!  thanks in advance.

The layout of the print window is not the same as OS 9.x and prior. There will not be a choice for double sided printing as there was pre OS X unless the printer comes with an automatic duplexer.
You will have to figure out how to print odds and evens in separate jobs and do it manually.

  • SMB printer authentication by domain credentials

On our network, the Macs are set up to authenticate with Active Directory. Our printers are accessible through SMB shares from our Windows print server. Our help desk recently brought up an issue with this, though.
When users first try to print to a printer, they are shown a prompt asking for their username and password (http://imgur.com/j6fp7). Mac OS X fills in their pretty username ("John Smith") instead of their domain username ("smith"). Users assume this is correct, try to authenticate, and then call the help desk when the printer doesn't print their stuff.
As we've learned, the correct format for authentication is "DOMAIN\username", but since it's unintuitive, it almost always leads to a help desk call. Even worse, because the authentication isn't visibly rejected (the printer just won't print), the keychain will now store the user's incorrect credentials, leading to even more confusion. When you pile on our 270-day mandatory password reset policy, now the users' keychains have multiple sets of invalid credentials for the same printer, and they're calling back every several months about the same issue.
There are several ways to approach this, but I'm not sure which would be best. I've been trying to Google up a solution, but no luck. Is there any way to get Mac OS X to show the prompt with the domain field instead (http://students.jccc.edu/documents/images/osx-smb_login.jpg)?

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
I don't have a solution but a suggested workaround. Instead of using SMB to connect to the Windows shared printers, you could enable Unix Print Services on the Windows print server and then use LPR for the Mac print queues. This avoids the need for the Mac users to authenticate when printing.
With the Mac client the LPR queue would consist of entering the Windows server name or IP address for the host name and the Windows printer share name for the LPR queue.

  • Open and cancelled Quote Report

    Hi,
Can anyone give me the information  for getting open and cancelled Quote Report?

I hope you are using reason for rejection for cancelling quotations. If that is the case, you can use transaction VA25 to view the list of quotations. Here you can filter on two columns status and reason for rejection to view the report as per your requirement.

  • Why do I have to turn off and on my HP office jet 7500A every time I want to print a page?  I can print one and imediatly try to print a second and it says it cant be found on the network.

Since going up to Lion I am having problems with my HP Officejet 7500A printer.  It is on the network wirrelessly.  After every page I have to turn the printer off and back on again because my mac cant find the printer on the network.  The windows mechines here can still find it, but not my Mac Pro.  What is going on?
Obviously I have it set up right because I can print to it.  problem is my mac thinks it goes off line every time I tell it to print another document.
    Anyone know of a fix?
    Thanks!

Lion may have replaced files that partially made up your printer drivers. Either way, HP saw fit to make a new set of drivers specifically for 10.7 so you may want to use it simply to avoid any bugs tehy found.

  • An issue with authentication and authorization on ISE 1.2

    Hi, I'm new to ISE.
I have an issue with authentication and authorization.
I have ISE 1.2 plus patch 6 installed on VMware.
I have built-in Windows XP supplicant and 2960 cisco switch with IOS c2960-lanbasek9-mz.150-2.SE5.bin
    On supplicant I use EAP(PEAP) with EAP-MSCHAP v2.
I created  authentication and authorization rules with Active Directory  as External Identity Source. Also I applied  authorization profile with DACL.I login on Windows XP machine under different Active Directory accounts. Everything works fine (authentication, authorization ), but only for several hours. After several hours passed , authentication and authorization stop working . I can see that ISE trying authenticate and authorize users, but ISE always use only one account for  authentication and authorization . Even if I login under different accounts ISE continue to use only one last account.
I traied to reboot switch and PC,but it didn’t help. Only rebooting of ISE helps. After ISE rebooting, authentication and authorization start to work properly for several hours.
I don’t understand is it a glitch or I misconfigured ISE or switch, supplicant?
What  should I do to resolve this issue?

Yes. Tried that (several times) didn't work.  5 people in my office, all with vers. 6.0.1 couldn't access their gmail accounts.  Kept getting error message that username and password invalid.  Finally solved the issue by using Microsoft Exchange and "m.google.com" as server and domain and that the trick.  Think there is an issue with imap.gmail.com and IOS 6.0.1.  I'm sure the 5 of us suddently experiencing this issue aren't the only ones.  Apple will figure it out.  Thanks.

When I view a report through CR4E, the generated report has 3 buttons namely Print, Export and Page Navigation buttons. But when I click on either of the buttons I get a 'null pointer exception'. This is a critical error as I am unable to navigate past the first page. Do I have to add code to these buttons? If not, why am I getting an error? Kindly solve my problem as soon as possible.

<p>Looking at your code it appears that you are storing the ReportSource in session prior to passing in the ResultSet. This will create a problem when a postback is made on  the viewer page (which all of the viewer actions do). If you look at the sample code which is generated when you use the JSP Page Wizard you will notice that the ResultSet is passed to the ReportClientDocument object prior to it being stored in session. • Print Terms and conditions on Back side in Smart Forms

    Hi All,
How can we print Terms and conditions on back side of last page. we are using SAP Smart Forms to print Packing Slips now we need to print the terms and conditions on back side of last page. who can we do this ... ?
I have created 2 pages first page and Last page i have selected last page as  next page for First page and  vice vis and selected duplex printing for first page print option.
Now the problem is the terms and conditions are printed on all the pages but not on the last page. for example if i have 5 pages then all the 4  pages are printed on front and back but the last page(5) is printed only on the front side but not on the back and if we print only 1 page then only front page is printed and no back side is printed.
please let me know what else need to be done in order to print the terms and conditions on the back side of last page.
    Thanks,
    Praveen Chindam.

    Hi,
There is quite a simple solution. We have exactly the same requirements for our invoices.
Create 3 pages in the Smartforms, e.g. FRONT, BACK and LAST.
FRONT has print mode "D" (duplex) and next page "BACK"
BACK has print mode " " (unchanged) and next page "FRONT"
LAST has print mode " " (unchanged) and next page " " (blank)
BACK and LAST are identical apart from that, and do not have a MAIN window - they just contain the T&C in a secondary window.
At the very end of the MAIN window on the page FRONT, insert the command NEW PAGE <LAST>.
This will give you a print out that is
FRONT, BACK, FRONT, BACK,....FRONT, BACK, FRONT, LAST.

  • How to set up Print Specs and Profiles in CS5 Suite

I am no color management expert but I do want to get my printer to print the same colors as my monitor displays in PSD, AI and InD applications.
My Intel iMac and Cinema Display running OS10.5.8 are both color calibrated with Spyder 3 Elite to achieve correct color reproduction.
After days of searching and testing, this is my solution which I offer to help those new to CS5.
    1. Start: PHOTOSHOP:
Set colour settings (Edit>Color Settings) as follows:
              RGB - Adobe RGB 1998
CMYK - US Web Coated (SWOP) v2 (This setting does not effect printer).
Leave Grey and Spot as default 20%
         Color Management Policys:
RGB, CMYK, Gray; all set to Preserve embedded Profiles
         Conversions Options:
              Engine - Adobe ACE
Intent - Relative colourimetric ( my choice for AI artwork. Choose Perceptual for photos in PSD).
Go to Save, give profile a name, and note the Conversion intent so you can create another profile for Perceptual and PSD.
(I called mine Epson R2400 and noted the Relative Colorimetric intent).
Finally, Go to Settings at the top of the Color Settings dialogue and select the color profile you have just named and saved. Click OK
    2. Go to Bridge>Edit>Creative Suite Color Settings. Find your saved profile and select it and click Apply.
Now AI and ID have the same colour preferences.
Users without Bridge will have to set these items in Color Settings for each Adobe application.
    3.   Photoshop>File>Print: Color Management
Color Handling - Photoshop Manages Color
Printer Profile - Choose the ICC Profile to suite your printer and paper stock. I used Epson canned ICC SPR2400 Premium Glossy with great results.
Rendering Intent - Relative Colorimetric for artwork or Perceptual for photos.
    4.  At top of Print dialogue box, select Printer (Epson Stylus Photo 2400 in my case).
         Below, Click and open Print Settings;
Layout - select  Paper Size and number of pages (copies). Layout is one of several items in a drop down menu.
Open the next drop down item, Color Matching. Check that he two options, Color Sync and Epson should be grayed out.
         Move to Print Settings.
Media Type - depends on your paper. (mine is Photo Quality InkJet).
Color - select Color or Black
Color Settings - OFF, This turns off color management in Epson Driver leaving Photoshop in charge!
Mode - I chose Advanced to get fine quality print. Automatic OK for general use.
Click Save. Click Print and you should get a print matching your Monitor.
    ILLUSTRATOR CS5
Bridge will ensure that Color Settings match Photoshop as 1. above. If you don’t have Bridge Go to Edit>Color Settings and specify the same as      Photoshop. Note Settings, at top of Color settings dialogue box requires the profile you created in Photoshop.
Go to File >Print. There are 3 steps to check.
In the  window at left are headings General, Marks and Bleed, Output, Graphics, Color Management, Advanced and Summary.
These are self explanatory. If you do not use Bridge, check Color Management as below:
    1. Printer: your printer. Color Handling: Let Illustrator determine colors. Printer Profile: select your monitor RGB icc profile.
Unlike Photoshop, do NOT use printer/paper ICC. Rendering intent: to suit your image.
    2. Bottom left of Print dialogue box is Page Setup. Set your size etc.
    3. Bottom Left is Printer. MOST IMPORTANT. Here are the similar setting options as PSD 4 above which require different handling.
Select Layout, go down to Color Matching>select COLORSYNC not Epson. This ensures Apple ColorSync does color conversion.
Profile - Automatic should appear with name of your preferred Printer/paper ICC below. ( be careful here as I have found AI sometimes finds the wrong      paper icc. Close Print and start again).
Move down list to Print Settings - Basic:
Page Set up - Standard; Media type - Your choice, (Photo Quality InkJet for me).
              Color - Color
Color Settings OFF to ensure Epson printer driver does not try to manage color.
Mode - Advanced if you want fine quality print. Automatic is OK for general use.
    4. Click Print to close Printer dialogue box. Click Print to close the Print dialogue box and you should get a print to match your on screen image.
    INDESIGN and General Comments.
Always select your Printer first as settings vary according to printer type.
InDesign Print set up is very similar to AI. Select Color Management at left and the Printer, Printer Profile and Rendering Intent require identical settings.
Go to bottom left, Page Setup. Specify Printer and paper size. Select Printer and the settings required are the same as AI.
If you switch between these apps there is considerable danger that the different Profile choices will trip you up. Photoshop color management requires the Printer/paper ICC, AI and InDesign require Monitor ICC. My primary error was to select my professionally scanned printer/paper ICC profile which resulted in weird colours on AI and ID. The clue that led me to choose my Monitor ICC profile instead was the ColorSync option in Color matching in AI. I hope you will find printing runs a lot smoother for you and I heartily invite better informed users than I, can add to, or qualify this post.

Regarding print brightness at output. The Settings of monitor calibration determine white point and black point. At the time you run Spyder 3 or whatever your monitor calibrator is, the software sets a white point of your choosing. current iMacs are far too bright and prints resulting from unmodified Mac monitors will appear too dark because of the excessive screen brightness. My iMac at lowest reading is 139 candelas. To get prints which match the screen I specify 80 candelas. The Spyder software also reads ambient light in the room and makes a calculation which effects the white and black points registered for both viewing and printing. Since paper reflects a light level according to lighting conditions, we each view prints in different conditions according to illumination source. This effects also effects screen viewing so conditions determine what we see.
In simple terms, ambient light reading also modifies the software calculations for colour output. If it is too high, prints are pale, too low and prints are too dark. If the Monitor calibration has been done properly there should be no problem. The point here is to make certain your calibration process is accurate. Personally I have calibrated in a dark room at night-time and I have calibrated In a shaded room at midday. Hugely different conditions. Under both circumstances I have found the calibration has resulted in good prints. So I suspect it is user white point settings or calibration error which results in prints being too dark or too light. I understand the data used by the calibration software applies to the ambient light reading to the monitor for reading conditions and uses other color gamut data for the printing process. So printing error must surely originate with the user.
I welcome comment from more experienced people in this matter.
