Print RTF file within app

Hi
Is it possible to print an rtf file from within java app without actually viewing the file on screen? I don`t want to display the file in a jtextpane or jeditorpane. Simply want to print the file like you can with a straight text file.
Or, is there are a command line switch to print a rtf file? through ms word?
Any help would be appreciated.

printing RTF files from java is amazingly hard. if not impossible.
(just what you wanted to hear)
basically, rtf support in java is pathetic.
in my case, i had to create an actual RTF file in ms word and save it.
i then opened it in notepad so that i could see all the control codes.
then i cut and pasted each section of the document template so that each bit was a string constant in java. the bits that i wanted to add i generated in code the normal way.
then i stuck all the bits back together again in one string and sent that off to a data stream. (to answer your question, it never went to the screen, just to the data stream)
its a bloody stupid way of doing rtf, but it was the only way to get it to work without having to go through and figure and implement out all the rtf codes yourself.

Look at http://www.fawcette.com/javapro/2002_12/online/print_kgauthier_12_10_02/default_pf.aspx. They provide an utility class which basically lets you do this in 1 line, by creating a JEditorPane with your document and passing it to a method there.

How to print item from within app?

How can I create a discrete text element inside an ipad app that can be printed? Something like shopping list etc
Would also like to be able to email to self and/or share. Using dps cc, app for ipad only.

We do not support printing in DPS. Single Edition applications do not support sharing.

Do my files within apps get backed up?

Specifically I have all my lecture notes on "Note taker HD" and it would be dissasterous for me to loose them so if i wipe my ipad and then restore from backup will those files be on there (and not just the app)? thanks

Yes - if you restore from the backup the data should be in the backup. If the notes are that important, you should backup the iPad every day .... If you use the app every day that is. Make sure your backup is always current.
If you depend upon an app that heavily, you should always read all of the information that is available so that you know what the app does and does not do. According to this text which I copied from the app description page in iTunes, it also offers "backup to a single file for off iPad storage". That sounds to me like you can store the notes/app data on your computer as well.
If the app works with file sharing - which it probably does - you can transfer the files to iTunes and then to your computer for safe keeping as well.
You can use "Open In" in other apps or iTunes to send PDF files to Note Taker HD for annotation.

BTW ... Just so that you know - the app itself is not contained in the backup. If you are using iTunes, you would have to sync the app back to the iPad or download it again from the App Store in the event of some disaster with the iPad. The app data is stored in the backup but not the app itself.

Is there a way of printing the file name from within the Preview application?

If I'm printing a file within Apple's Preview application, I sometimes want to be able to print the file name at the edge of the document. Does anyone know of way of doing this?

Thanks for replying, that goes some way to answering the question, but I'm also looking to see how much space each app and its associated documents are using, i.e. Pages comes in at 112Mb for the app alone, but I'd like to know how much space is being used by the documents as well.

Can no longer print multiple files from a PDF package

Prior to our upgrade to Acrobat Pro X, we had the ability to print multiple files within a PDF package. We would simply select the files we wanted to print, say print and it would print them all. It no longer does so, although it still allows us to select multiple files and to select ALL from the print menu but then it only sends the first file to the printer.
We have tried it on both Windows XP and Windows 7 and it won't work correctly on either one.
Does anyone have any ideas? This is very frustrating as these packages are created by folks bundling their e-mail messages to send to the fileroom for printing and filing in the official case files. With the old method we were able to quickly print out all the messages without attachments, and then would only have to individually print those messages that had attachments. As stands now if we get a package with 100 messages in it we will have to select and print each file individually instead of being able to print the 75 without attachments as one print job and then only have to do the seperate handling for the remaining 25 with attachments.
Any and all suggestions are welcome.

1) As far as i know there are no FMs to read a file from App server, you can do the same using *OPEN/READ/CLOSE dataset ABAP statements - There are tons of examples for this on the net.
and print the PDF file or send it as an attachment in an email?
You can send the file read from the app server(by the suggested method above) and use CL_BCS to send it as an attachment.
Again there are many examples on the net on how to use CL_BCS for the same.

Printing problem with RTF file in java

i actually got code to print the RTF doc using java, it works fine if we give small content (some text), but throws error 'java.io.ioException: Too many close-groups in RTF " when actual bill content is pass.

I would like to print out the icon and title of each of my apps to another document for printing and sharing within my family

I would like to print out the icon and title of each of my IOS apps to another document for printing and sharing within my family. My son has my old iPod touch so I erased it so he could put whatever games he wants to play on that I used to play with. It is difficult to download every game at one time because there is too much to download at one time. I have many hundreds of apps. One way I found was to create a screen grab of each page in iTunes then open it in Preview contact sheet but that is really tiny unreadable image of each screen. I also tried importing a screen shot of the contact sheet into Paint 2 and magnifying it on several pages but that is really blurry. The ideal solution would be to import the icon and text to another app or to provide a print list of apps solution within iTunes.

Create iPad screen shots by briefly pressing the home and on/off buttons together. You will hear a shutter click sound and find a screen shot on your iPad's Camera Roll. You can then print these screen shots as you would any iPad photos.
UPDATE: I assumed you had an iPad. Hopefully your iOS device does have an on/off and home button and is capable of producing screen shots.

Does the ipad backup save files within an app?

I have lots of pdf files within adobe reader on my iPad. Now, if I do a backup of my iPad on my PC...
Are these files saved on my PC?
Are these files accessible from my PC in case i lose my iPad?
In case I lose my iPad and restore it to a new iPad will my files be restored along with the apps (e.g. pdf files within adobe)?

App data is contained in an iPad backup.
There are some PC programs which can extract data from an unencrypted iPad backup file if necessary.
App data will be restored to a new iPad.
