Print to video, vhs tape no audio

Mac Os X version 10.4.10
Final Cut Pro 6
Imac
Jvc SR-VS30U
I can print to video just fine. The video looks fine, but
there's no audio. I already contacted Apple for support. Does
anyone have a resolution to this problem? Thank you

I tried your suggestion, and it didn't work. I'm pretty much lost, and Apple is no help.

  • No audio after I Print to Video...help!

After I have printed to video there is no audio attached to my edited sequences, even though during playback in the timeline there is obviously audio. When I print to video how do I make sure the audio goes along with it?

Monitor audio from the deck you are outputting to. Make SURE audio is being sent to the deck...if via firewire, make sure in the Audio/Video settings you have audio out set to firewire.

  • Printing to Video deteriorates and finally stops working

I've been experiencing problems with Print to Video & Edit to Tape over the past two weeks and now it has stopped working altogether. The Deck is a Panasonic DVCPro AJ-D455p. Log & Capture works fine. Edit to Tape was the first thing that stopped working. then Print to Video would send the audio but no video, then it wouldn't work at all so we were playing content directly from the timeline and recording manually. Now we can't even do this. I'm trying to identify if this is a hardware or software issue. (the deck plays fine to the monitor) Any ideas? (At first powering down the deck, restarting FCP seemed to help. no longer.) I've also checked and rechecked the A/V settings for output, refreshed the deck through FCP etc...nothing helps on the settings side of things.
    PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)   FCP studio 5.0

A strange and bizzare series of events has left me baffled re: FCP. About a month ago communication with the Panasonic AJ-D455 began to deteriorate. I was not able to edit to tape, then could not print to vid, so was posting to tape playing off the timeline. Log and Capture worked fine. My external monitor would not mirror the desktop no matter what my AV settings were. Then Log & Capture stopped working. I've run FCP rescue, I've trashed preferences, I've checked the FireWire, I've checked the deck. I've reformated the entire computer, reinstalled FCP...still no luck.
Other random facts. After I trashed the preferences, the system worked normally for about 30 minutes. After I reinstalled FCP the system worked fine for 1/2 day.
Any suggestions on what to do, look for, next?
Also, the deck works flawlessly with another machine. The FW cable is also fine.
Not sure what to isolate next...

  • Print to Video on DSR11

The project is HD and when I go to print to video through firewire the audio prints however the video does not. When I stop the video on my computer the last frame shows up on my tape but nothing else. O the view tab I have external video, ALL FRAMES.
What am I doing wrong? What should I be doing.

    What am I doing wrong?
Trying to output HD to a DV deck.
What should I be doing. (sic)
Outputting DV to the DSR-11, or outputting HD to an HD deck.

  • VHS tapes

    Hi!
Looking for advices to convert video VHS tapes into DVD. First, is it possible ? If yes what is the procedure ?
    Tks a lot

You can also buy dual-drive units that are VHS on one side and DVD recorders on the other. Or you can just hook up you VHS deck using composite to a DVD recorder. Lots of them on the market these days. LiteOn makes a few under $200.
If you need to edit the content of your tapes before you transfer to DVD, you need to ingest into a tool like FCP. Drop by any of the online video equeipment dealers and search for composite to Firewire convertors or analog to digital convertors.

  • Having trouble with audio edit to tape, print to video ok

Hi all, please go easy on me, this is my first post.
I am having difficulty getting audio on to tape via 'edit to tape'.
The hardware is blackmagic decklink extreme, feeding component video and analoge audio to a UVW-1800P.
I can do a print to video on a crash record and the audio works that way, but edit to tape does not.
I have tried both deck link and built in audio in the audio settings and the FCP a/v settings, seperate and ganged output settings, I have set the insert settings to 2 channel Sony, reloaded the decklink drivers.
The irritating thing is the audio is there whilst cutting, but as soon as I try edit to tape there is complete silence. The important thing is that it worked a few weeks back but does not now, it must be a setting?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I had this same problem and this resolved it for me:
-Go to your "Settings" icon and click on the "General" tab.
-About 2/3 way down the page you will see "Use side switch to:" - make sure "mute" is checked rather than "lock rotation."
-Then make sure the side switch, located next to the volume toggle switch on the side of your ipad, is moved to the right (no red dot showing).
My audio worked fine in embedded videos after I did those two things.  Hope it works for you.

  • Audio quality in video imported from VHS tapes

    Hi All,
I am trying to import old videos on VHS tapes, using a Canopus converter. The video is importing into iMovie just fine, but the audio has a loud buzzing sound that covers up the actual audio and is very annoying. Is there a way to extract the audio so I can clean it up using Sound Soap, then return the cleaned up version to iMovie?
    I am using iMovie '09, version 8.0.5.
I also use Final Cut Express, so maybe it would be better to just export it to FCE and then extract the video from there?
Please give as much step by step detail as possible for both approaches. In the iMovie "Help" it said to extract audio using advanced tools, but I couldn't find a command in any of the advanced tools to do that.
    Thanks.

Is there a way to extract the audio so I can clean it up using Sound Soap
iMovie 06 has some good filters for that.
I also use Final Cut Express, so maybe it would be better to just export it to FCE and then extract the video from there?
Final Cut Express (or iMovie 06) will give you better quality but it won't solve the buzzing noise. I also suspect a grounding problem.

  • Coverted old vhs tapes and downloaded to computer using Roxio. The audio and video don't sync.

I converted some vhs tapes to imovie with Roxie. Every project I created has video and audio that don't sync. What am I missing?

    Thanks all-

  • Is there a way to import videos from old VHS tapes so that they can be later accessible to processing with imovie?

Is there any way to import videos from old VHS tapes so that thry can later be processed by imovie?

I recently got a new  iPhone, and after restoring all my stuff from my old iPhone via the iTunes restore thing, I had to put all my music on manually, instead of it being restored.
iTunes content is not included with your iPhone's backup - no music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, audio and print books, tones, and apps. All iTunes content must be transferred back to your iPhone when restoring. If you sync music with Sync Music selected under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, music is transferred back to your iPhone from your iTunes library when syncing - syncing is followed after the iPhone is restored. If you manually manage music and videos with this selected under the Summary tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, you must manually drag all music from your iTunes library back to your iPhone. Manually manage music means manually all the way.

  • Audio Drift when importing VHS Tapes-Do I need a Canopus ADVC 300

Embarking on the daunting task of importing/editting >100 2hr VHS tapes, and want to get the best results for my efforts.
I pop a tape into a VCR connected via S-Video (video) and RCA (audio) cables to a Sony DVMC-DA1 AD converter, and from there to my Mac Pro via Firewire. Use FCE "Capture Now" using NTSC DV Converter setup. Start capture, let it run unattended, and return at my leisure to do some rough editting.
Problem is the audio on the imported clip gradually loses sync, by about 2 seconds by the end of the clip. The sync problem is present on the clip when played with Quicktime as well.
    Questions:
    1. Is there a reasonable way to correct this in FCE?
    2. Since my Sony converter is nearing 10 years old, will use of a more recent AD converter such as the Canopus ADVC 300 result in a perfectly synced import?
    3. If so, can you comment on the Canopus's purported video noise reduction and image stabilization capabilities? Is it noticable/worthwhile?
    Thanks for your time.

    Hello,
The problem is the audio is not 'locked' to the video, and your old Sony DVMC-DA1 does not appear to support locked audio.
The only way you might deal with this in FCE itself would be to capture shorter clips (say, under 15 minutes each) which would minimize the degree to which the audio drifts out of sync in each clip. (The longer the clip, the greater the drift.)
Given the large amount of video you wish to digitize (some 200 hours), it will be far preferable to use a Canopus ADVC-100, 110 or higher model - +they all support DV locked audio+ - so the video & audio are sync'd without the need for manual intervention or capturing short clips.
I have used the Canopus 100 & 110 extensively and have been very happy with the results. Sometimes, depending on the VHS tape, there is some slight banding at the very bottom of the image but 1) this is +usually not visible+ in the finished movie because it is outside the 'image safe area' and 2) if necessary can be compensated via about a 2%-4% enlargement of the image in FCE (which is not enough to soften the image).
I have not used the Canopus 300 because I never felt the need, as I am happy with my results from the 100 & 110. Users of the 300 have been pretty positive about its built-in TBC and image cleaning capabilities.

  • How do I get Video from vhs tape into Imavie HD?

I am trying to back up some of my home movies from VHS tape to DVD. Is it possible to connect my vhs player to my mac? What kind of equipment do I need to do this inexpensively.
    Richard

I don't think my camera has that connection. It's a JVC Mini DV camera- very inexpensive.I just purchased it recently. It has an Audio Video output connector, DC input, Digital Video Connector(DV in/out). Are there some inexpensive DVD/VHS combos available or am I better off with some sort of converter?

  • Weird audio issue when printing to video

I am attempting to dub a couple of old projects to tape using the Print to Video command (firewire connection to Panasonic DVX-100A MiniDV camera). I have used this method many times in the past with success. However, I have now tried two different projects tonight and had the same strange issue: The project plays back perfectly normally in the timeline, through the computer speakers, but when I Print to Video, there will be one part where a small audio "blip" can be heard. It sounds like either a snippet of tone or the sound of un-rendered audio... except it's all rendered.
Anybody have any suggestions? It's really weird that it plays back something different in Print to Video than it does in regular playback... Any help is appreciated.

That did it, thanks! I feel kind of dumb, I've never used that function before. Is that something I should have been doing all along? Anyway, thanks again. It's nice to get a response and have it work on the first try. So refreshing.

  • Like a similar posting, I can't print video to tape, any suggestions?

Like a similar posting, I am having problems printing to tape from Final Cut Pro 5 to my Panasonic DVX100A cam. I have audio, but no video. I tried exporting to a QT, but even still, when I open the QT back up in FCP, I have audio and no video.
    My settings are as follows:
Sequence Preset: DV NTSC 48 kHz
Capture Preset: DV NTSC 48 kHz
    Device Control Preset: Firewire NTSC
Video Playback: Apple Firewire NTSC (720x480)
    Audio Playback: Firewire DV
I have refreshed my A/V Devices, and in my camera I have played with many configurations and settings with the 1394.
The strange thing is when I move my cursor over my sequence, I get a still image in my camcorder viewer. However, when I try to play it, it freezes on that one frame, while the sequence runs.
Any suggestions? I am running out of solutions.

I have "all frames" checked, and I tried restarting the computer and hooking up the camera, and opening my project. I have no other output set for print to video, though I tried fiddling with it to see if that could work. Unfortunately, none of the above is working.
I am seeming to find that this is a common problem on the web, yet I have not come upon a solution yet, or rather, if it's even possible. I shot this project with the Panasonic HVX200 cam using the P2 card at 720p.
I don't know if it's even possible to record a 24 signal (from the original 720p P2 card) to an NTSC tape via Firewire, or if the DVX100A will only write 24pa to tape while it is shooting.
Can anyone help out with this?

  • Loosing audio when printing to video

    I'm working with FCE HD 3.0. I use a Powermac G5-2x1.8. Memory: 3 GB.
    Systemdrive: 150 GB.
    Internal scratchdrive: 280 GB.
System: Mac OSX 10.3.9. My camera is a Sony HDR-HC3.
My scratchdisk is filled with 188 GB.
I edited a 40 min. movie. When I play the timeline everything is fine.
When I print to tape I lose some parts of teh musictracks (track 5 and 6), Sometimes I even loose little parts of the clipsound (track 1 and 2).
Befor I print to video I render video and audio, use 'mixdown' and refresh videodevice.
How to get a good result?
    G5-2x1.8   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi(Bonjour)!
If there is a song bought on iTune Music Store, you can't use this track.
Did you render an audio mixdown before export ?
Try a test version with just one minute of movie. (set in and out point in timeline and do the print to tape operation).
Try a print to tape from a cold start mac.
Drag your playhead around your sequence before printing (it's seem that this process load the cahe memory, at least in my own experience)
If the problem is still there, you can also do an audio track mix quicktime conversion export (aiff 16 bit) from your sequence, import it into a new sequence, open your previous edited one in editor (option clik), do uncheck audio A1 and A2 target, and drag the video content on V1 in the new sequence. Drag your exported audio on A1 A2.
Do a check for the synch of your movie.
Do not forget to do an audio mixdown before print to tape.
Does your hard drive is fragmented or full at more than 80% level?

  • Adobe Audition 3.0 and Pinnacle 700 USB - How to record audio from VHS tapes???

    Hi Friends,
I am new to Adobe Audition 3.0. I need your help.
Actually I am having a old Pinnacle 700 USB capture card. I want to record some audio in my computer by Adobe Audition.
I downloaded and installed required driver for Pinnacle 700 USB (for Vista).
But when I tried to capture audio from my VHS tapes, It not showing proper options. I don't know how to proceed further.
Could any one please help me... Please let me know what all I need to do.
    Waiting for your helpful suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Yash

The Pinnacle is a video capture device and as such captures the video and audio into one MPEG or DV stream. Audition can't see it as an audio card and therefore can't capture audio directly from your video source. However once you have captured a video file using the Pinnacle you can probably get to the audio by using the Open Audio from Video command in the File menu in Audition.
