  • HELP!  Why does my printer disconnect when router unplugged?

I have a Canon MP480 that connects to my wireless router in my house. Unfortunatley, my Canon MP 480 disconnects from the network anytime my router is unplugged. Any ideas?

It would be helpful if you could tell us if your printer is connected to the airport unit via wifi or USB. Also, which airport unit are you using and what firmware is installed. You can see the firmware version using the airport utility (in your utilities folder in Mac OS X).

I'd run the Network Diagnostic Utility (NDU) and check the communication.  If it shows that there's a problem, try turning off your firewall and rerun the NDU.  Then try running a scan.
Who is your ISP?  Sometimes your ISP runs a firewall that updates and you know nothing about it and it can block scanning.
What are the make/model of your router?  Like some ISPs, some routers have a built in firewall.
Here is a link for a document that lists the ports that need to be opened.  They are listed in Solution 6-->Network-->Method 2.

  • HP c6390 - Printer disconnected!

I have had this wireless printer for about a year and it rarely works for me (wireless printing).  The printer shows as "ready" and the Network Wireless Test Report shows that there are no problems found and that it is connected to my wireless network but when I print it indicates that the printer is disconnected.
    I am using Windows xp.
I tried running the home network diagnostic utility but when I get to the screen where I am to select my printer it does not show and indicates that there is no printer connected.
I am really frustrated with this printer...  any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance...

OK, on the front of the printer: Setup > Network > Wireless Setup Wizard.  Follow the instructions to identify your network and enter your password.
Print a WIreless Network Test from the same Network menu.  Note the printer's IP address.
Now, let's set a static IP address for the printer:
    - Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). Yours is 192.168.1.100 to .149.  Let choose 192.168.1.200 for your printer's IP address.
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Leave the gateway and DNS blank. Click 'Apply'
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

  • Printer disconnected errors; now can't reinstall

I have a HP Photosmart C7280 AIO printer connected through ethernet.  It worked fine for about a year then about 6 month ago, I started randomly getting messages popping up telling me that my printer was disconnected or connected after it had been offline.
When it was "disconnected", I could still print but I'd have to go to the Printer property in Windows XP and pick "Use printer offline" then it would start printing.
About a week ago, I want to see if I could use the card reader on the printer to load some pictures back to my computer.   When I inserted the card into the printer, it would tell me xx number of photos found.    When I ran the Photosmart Essential software, it would always report "No photos found".
I decided to "fix" the two problems so I un-installed all HP software and tried to re-install.   During the install process, it repeatedly reported that "No HP devices have been detected".   After several attempts to do the full install or the "Add a Device" install, I followed this procedure for debugging this problem...

Even after all of that, still no printer found.
I can access my router and see the printer in the list of devices.   I can ping the printer from my computer.   I printed the HP Network Configuration Page from the printer and everything looks correct and makes sense.   I shows Packets Transmitted and Received so it appears as though the interface is working.   IP info looks good.
Do anybody have any ideas or suggestions on how I can get this thing working again or is my printer hosed and networking just not working anymore?
    Thanks

Can you see the printer by typing its IP address into your browser?
What kind of security system are you using?  If it has a firewall, have you disabled it?
Have you set a static IP address for the printer?

  • Wireless printer disconnecting from network

    Hello all,
Here is my problem.  I have a new HP 3510 set up as a wireless printer on my home network.  I have three computers, two wired and one wireless.  I have a netgear router for 3G air card.  I can connect my printer to the network initially.  I can print from any computer, initially.  I can even use ePrint.  The trouble is that the next day, when I fire up any of my computers that printer is no longer on the network.  I have upgraded the router firmware, and the trouble seems to be there.  When I power cycle the router, everything is connected once more.  I have set a static IP on the printer.  Furthermore, and have tried setting the printer as a static IP within the router.  I am now at a loss.  I have read about setting the DHCP range on my router outside the printer IP.  Would this even make a difference?  Since I am not sure what is happening, I do not know if this will help any.  It acts like either the router or the printer are going into a sleep mode or something, however, my phone is also connected on the network, and when I get home it immediately connects.
Thank you in advance for the help.
FYI: the two wired computers are XP and Win7.  the wireless is Vista
I have wpa-psk + wpa2-psk set for my router security.  Have not tampered with the router firewall, but since the printer connects initially, not sure if that would be the cause.  I have set the printer IP well above anything that has been used by any other networked hardware.

Hi, unless you reserve the static IP in DHCP it is best to assign a static IP outside the DHCP range.

When I connect the printer, the network connection is turned off. When I reconnect to the network, the printer connection is turned off.

Can you verify that the printer has a wireless connection from the printer to your network by checking that the blue colored LED is lit (on the top of the printer).  It should be lit and not blink.  If it is blinking your computers might still be able to see it but not connect correctly.
You can also print a configuration page and check that the printer has a valid IP address.
Press and hold the product cancel button until the ready light

  • Printer disconnect

Have Officejet 4620 all-in-one.  At&t U-verse router.  Need to set up static IP for printer. Go to EWS and input manual IP. After clicking APPLY keep getting "invalid input" no matter what fourth number input???? Have tried everything. Uninstalled and reinsalled. Am desparate. HELP!

You have to make sure the static IP is outside the DHCP range of the router.  You will need to check in the router to see what this range is.  I would set the static IP on the printers front panel once you verify the range in the router.

  • HP LaserJet P1006 Print very slow with Windows 8.1

I have an HP LaserJet 1006 that is installed on Toshiba Laptop running Windows 8.1 and was working fine even from time to time it stop working at all, then I have to remove the software and then reinstall it again and then it works fine, last time I downloaded the Windows 8.1 Driver for the printer.
But this time, first I tried to remove the software but it didn't work; the printer still show up on the control panel - Devices and Printers. then some how I was able to reinstall the software , after that the printer is working but printing very slow even it is a LaserJet printer.
Please any one can help with that?
    Thanks;
    Waleed;

    Hey @wmowafi,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're experiencing a slow printing issue on Windows 8.1 when printing to your HP Laserjet P1006 Printer. I would like to work with you today at resolving this issue. Now the only driver available for your product on Windows 8.1 is a hostbased plug and play basic generic driver. Therefore, there is limitations for what can be done for troubleshooting. As you stated, you have already attempted an uninstalled and reinstalled of the driver to no avail. I'm going to suggest some further steps and tools to resolve this issue for you.
    Step 1: Uninstall Your Printer:
    Disconnect your USB cable
Click the following link: Fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled to access the Microsoft Uninstall Tool.
Once the website opens, select Run Now on the right hand side
    Allow the Tool to run.
    When prompted choose Uninstall
A list of programs should populate and you're looking for the Laserjet. It may appear as LJ P1000 series. Please select the Laserjet series and Uninstall it.
If the Laserjet doesn't show in the list of programs than your Windows 8.1 computer does not see the Laserjet driver as properly installed.
Step 2: Clear the Temp Files:
Launch your Start screen by right clicking on the Windows icon on the bottom left of your screen or by select the Windows button on your keyboard located to the right of the Ctrl button.
Once the Start screen launches, type the word Run
Click on Run to launch it
In the Run box type %temp% and select OK
Once the Temp folder opens, hold down Ctrl + A at the same time on your keyboard and everything will highlight in the folder. Select 'Delete' on your keyboard. Don't worry, no files or folders on your actual computer will be removed during this process. If a file is still be used on your computer you will get a pop up to 'skip' the file
Once the Temp folder is emptied of its files, close the window
On your Desktop, right click on the Recycling Bin and left click on 'Empty Recycling Bin'
    Restart you computer
Step 3: Reinstall the Laserjet P1006:
Please keep your USB cable disconnected
Click on the following link: HP LaserJet P1000-P1500 Hostbased Plug and Play Basic Driver
The driver page for your product will now launch
Select Download and allow the download to Run
Once the download is complete an extraction will automatically run and once completed the installer will launch
Run through the step-by-step on screen instructions.
Please do not plug in your USB cable until prompted
Ensure that your USB cable is plugged in from the rear of the printer directly to the computer. Avoid extenders or docking stations as they can cause printing and communication issues.
    Test printing!
Please let me know if the steps I've provided resolve your issue. Good luck!

  • HP 5510 all in one reads "print cartridge error"

Printer will not reset after I installed  new HP black cartridge.  I cleaned cartidges and printer heads as per HP instructions,

Hello @mainelym , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are running into cartridge errors.  I would like to help.
I would recommend removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset on the printer.Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.

  • Suddenly, I can't print from Excel

Other applications seem to print fine to my Epson Stylus CX4600.
However, Excel X stops the print queue whenever I try to print
ANY spreadsheet. No new hardware or software.
    I have tried:
    Restarting Mac
    Restarting the printer
    Disconnecting power from printer
Deleting (actually renaming) the following files:
    /users/me/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Excel Settings
    /users/me/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Microsoft Office Settings
    /users/me/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Microsoft Component Preferences
    iMac (iSight) G5, 1.9GHz, 1.0GB mem, 152GB disk   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I solved my own problem by going to Page Setup in Excel
and making sure the correct printer was selected. I don't
    know how it got deselected.
Sure was easier than reinstalling Excel and printer drivers!

  • Unable to connect EA4500 with HP 1525NW wireless printer

I recently switched from an old linksys router to a new EA4500.  Before I had no trouble connecting my wireless HP printer using the WPS setup.  However with the new EA4500, I tried multiple times without success.
Here is a solution I found online.  It works.  I had to use the original installation disks that came with the printer to reinstall the software and manually - using a USB - connected my printer to my wireless network.
Method three: Standard connection using a USB cable
If your wireless router does not support WiFi-Protected Setup (WPS), you can use this method to set up the product on a wireless network. Using a USB cable to transfer settings makes setting up a wireless connection easier. After the setup is complete, disconnect the USB cable.
Insert the software CD into the CD drive.
Follow the on-screen instructions. When prompted, select the Connect through a wireless network option.
Connect the USB cable ( ) to the product and the computer when prompted.
    CAUTION:
Do not connect the USB cable until the installation program prompts you.
When the installation is complete, print a Configuration Report to make sure that the product has an SSID name. Follow these steps to print a configuration report:
Load plain white paper into tray 1.
On the product control panel, press OK , and then press OK again to select Reports .
Press the Right Arrow button ( ) to scroll to and select Config Report .
When the Configuration Report prints, disconnect the USB cable ( ) from the product.
You have completed the software installation. Do not perform any more steps in this document.

Well it's never recommended to do WPS setup for printer.  Following the manual instructions like you posted is the best.
