Printer keeps stopping jobs

I have an Epson Stylus CX4200. It keeps stopping all my jobs, even after I tell it to "start jobs". I have tried deleting the printer in my print menu (in system preferences) and then adding it again. I have also tried simply turning the printer off and on again, and I even replaced all of the ink cartridges. When I try to open the "help" menu in the print window, it says there is no help available for this printer. Yikes - what to do now? Please help.

Is the printer connected directly to your computer, or are you accessing it via a network?
With my Epson, I have problems printing from a laptop via the network at times. To fix it, I have to go to the desktop to which the printer is attached, open the printer (thru System Preferences), and clear the queue there (by deleting all the jobs). Then I tell the printer to restart (still on the desktop).
Be sure to also clear the queue on your laptop, and tell the printer to restart there.
Hope this helps --

  • "Printing" keeps stopping

Every time I click “Print” in the Print dialog, I keep getting the message:
“Printing of jobs for this printer is stopped. Do you want to continue and restart the printing of jobs? If you select continue and the printing of jobs cannot be restarted, this job will automatically be added to the queue.”
I choose “Continue.” Print Center automatically launches and when I switch to it I see the progress bar, but then it says “Jobs Stopped.” (?) The file is added to the bottom of the list in the Printer window (by now a fairly long list).
If I click the “Start Jobs” icon, the same thing happens and the files remain in the list of files still to be printed.
I don't think it is a printer issue since the same thing happens when i try to “print” to Adobe Acrobat. I can create a PDF through the Mac’s “Save as PDF"button at the bottom of the print dialog, but not through Acrobat.
    Why does printing keep stopping?

This is not unusual with some operating systems and depending on your printer.
Often, again depending on both mentioned above sometimes when spooling to the printer if you are low on ram it will take an extended period to read and transfer the data from the computer to the printer. and sometimes will stop the printing process alltogether.
The only way I have been able to correct this issue is to Unplug your printer for a minute or so and shut your computer off also.
After your wait plug your Printer back in and then restart your computer. This Resets your Printer and Resets your Computer as well.
Next you will need to empty your QUE and start all over and I would advise doing each print job one at a time,
The reason I say this is as I mentioned above, Low on Ram, If by chance Ram is not the issue I have found that downloading Open source drivers for your printer will sometimes do the trick but if you are short on ram the transfer rate probably can't handle the amount of data you are trying to print.

  • Print Queue stops jobs - help?

*One day I could print pdfs and the next I couldn't!*
I'm using Acrobat 7.0 Professional and everytime I try to print a pdf, from any programme, the Print Queue begins to print my file, it says opening Distiller and then the Print Queue stops, just like that! No reasons.
I have reinstalled Acrobat having first uninstalled it from the disc, this hasn't solved my problem.
I have repaired permissions, no solution here.
I have run Printer Setup Repair by Fixamac and that's not helped.
I have reset the printing system in Printer setup utility - still no help.
I have reinstalled the OS system from the original discs and still I cannot get the printer queue to print the job!
I have a Canon Pro 9000 printer and I can print perfectly well to that.
    PLEASE can someone help me???
I've wasted half a day on this and have got nowhere.

The log shows that the first process to have trouble is the backend (transport) process "pdf700", which is the PDF distiller installed by Adobe Acrobat 7. I believe the rest of the errors are related to this process failing.
You mentioned that you deleted Acrobat, however I believe that this file may not have been deleted, or overwritten with the new installation. So I would run the the Acrobat Uninstaller and then check if this file gets left behind. If it does, then you can try manually removing this file.
You can see that the file is located in /usr/libexec/cups/backend. You can use the Finder to navigate to the folder. With a Finder window open, select Go > Go to Folder and then type that path above. This will open the backend folder where you will see the pdf700 file. Now, before you can delete it, you will need to change ownership from system to your account. Do a Get Info on the file (Cmd I) and in the new window, expand 'Ownership and Permissions'. You will see you have read-only rights. If you expand Details, then you will see that System is the owner. Next to this is a lock. If you click this you will be prompted for the administrators account/password. After entering this, you can change the owner to your account and then close the Get Info window. Now you will be able to delete the pdf700 file.
With the file removed, you can install Acrobat 7.x again. Of course, if the uninstaller does remove this file, then everything I mentioned above won't be required and of no help. I then recommend you check the Acrobat forums on Adobe's web site to see if there is any fixes mentioned there...

  • Printer keeps 'stopping' every job i send

i've read several discussions about this, none seem to help so i thought i'd try too.. hope this is the right place to post though!
I have a Lexmark x5260 all in one printer, it's always worked with windows and it used to work with this mac. Sometimes it does, but most of the time i print something and it stops every job. When i resume it stops it again. I've tried deleting any quewes, restarting, reconnecting, and i think i set it up correctly. Is there any obvious solution?! the printer still works when i connect it to my laptop running windows...
    thanks

    Hello Ozma76 and others,
First I am mainly an OS 9.2 user but I am learning more about X.
We use X.3 in work (school) and I am learning a few things you could try.
First what application are you printing from?
When you go to print do you check in the print dialog box to be sure the correct printer is selected? Also if applicable check the page set-up before printing. Are these printers networked?
The things I would try are these:
    1. - Try printing just a small (few letters) from application. Does it work?
    2. - Try another application - does that print?
    3. - If the answers are no.....I would then go to #4
    4. - Go into the sysytem preferences and go to the print center.
    5. - Highlight your printer and hit the (minus) sign to delete it.
    6. - Make sure the printer is on and connected......
    7. - Then in the print center...hit the (plus sign) - The computer will look for drives for the printer you are using.
    8. - Apple has pre-installed many drivers and if worse case you need to re-install drivers or download them from the company site.
I think this will get you printing....This is what we have done several times in school. Post Back.........Jim

  • Printer queue keeps stopping

I’m trying to print to Adobe Acrobat (the only working “printer” I have right now) The PDF file does not appear in the chosen destination.
So I go to print Center. In the Printer list window, though it says “Printing,” I see the message:
“Printing of jobs for this printer is stopped. Do you want to continue and restart the printing of jobs? If you select continue and the printing of jobs cannot be restarted, this job will automatically be added to the queue.”
I choose “Restart.” In the Printer window it shows the progress bar.
Finally, after a long time processing, it says at the top of the Printer window, “Jobs Stopped.” (?) The file is added to the bottom of the list in the Printer window (by now a fairly long list). No file appears in the specified location.
If I click the “Start Jobs” icon, it goes through the same rigamarole and still no files appear, and again it says “Jobs Stopped.” The files remain in the list of files still to be printed.
I can create a PDF through the Mac’s “Save as PDF"button at the bottom of the print dialog, but not through Acrobat.

I don't have an answer, but I do have exactly the same problem! I was previously able to print wireless from my laptop PC and from my desktop PC to the printer connected to USB port of the AEBS. Now, I can print only if I connect the printer directly to one of the PC's with the USB cable.
I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with Apple technical support. We tried rebooting the AEBS, and well as Restarting it from the menu.
I was able to print if I set up the printer via a shared connection to my MacBook Pro with the printer connected by Ethernet cable, but that is not an acceptable solution, since it means that the MacBook Pro has to be turned on in order to print from the PC.
I have even exchanged the AEBS for a new one at the Apple store, but I am still not able to resolve this issue.
Apple Technical Support ended the conversation by saying they do not provide support for Bonjour printing problems on a PC.
This must be a software problem, because I have been able to get this functionality to work for my customers who have AEBS's in a mixed computer environment.

  • Print spooler keeps stopping on Windows 7

I have an HP desktop computer running Windows 7 it has an HP photosmart Printer and an Kodak AIO 5500 attached to it and shared over the network. Everything is fine with the HP printer but every time I try to print to the Kodak the print spooler keeps
stopping. I have tried many of the work arounds I have found but nothing helps. Every time I try to print to the KOdak I have to wait until after I have made all the print option and then I have to start the spooler.  The firmware and software is up to
date on the Kodak printer.  How can I fix this?

    Hi,
I would like to suggest you perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.
Clear Printer Spooler Files and Enable the Spooler Service
    =================================
    1. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the Search box and press Enter.
    2. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list.
    3. Click Stop and click OK.
    4. Click Start, type "%WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers" in the Start Search box and press Enter, delete all files in this folder.
    5. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the Start Search box and press Enter.
    6. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list.
    7. Click on Start. In the Startup Type list, make sure that "Automatic" is selected and click OK.
    Does it work?
    Regards,
    Arthur Li - MSFT
Thanks Arthur. Your solution worked for me and I now have both my printers back in use. I am using Windows 7 and IE9. Suspect that clicking the Print button on an internet site yesterday when reserving an item for collection at the local outlet of
a national high street retailer may have caused the problem.

  • Printer spooler keeps stopping

Windows 8.1. I have checked the printer spooler service it is configured correctly as far as I can tell. Set to start automatically, restart on the first and second failure. The dependencies look ok.
I have tried to remove unwanted printers from 'Devices and printers'. They keep coming back after a reboot. Some of these are shared printers that no longer exist on the host machine. They all remove except one which stubbornly refuses to budge.
I try installing my new cannon printer, it starts the installation but then fails because the printer spooler service is not running.
    - Processing cannot be continued because the Windows Print Spooler service has been stopped. Start the Print Spooler service and then try again.
I restart the printer spooler service and try again. Same problem.
I restart the machine. Same problem.
I have no idea why it keeps stopping. How do you get the service to log errors.
I have tried to use the Troubleshooting application. It states 'the printer spooler service is not running' and restarts it. One tries to reinstall the printer, same problem.
How does one fix this problem? Is there a tool to remove all printers and start again?

Every time I reboot I get the same printers in 'devices and printers' even though I have removed them. Also there is one printer that will not be removed. If I try and then hover the mouse cursor over the printer icon, the tool tips displayed are
    "Remove failed"
    "Driver does not exist"
Ok. I don't give a stuff about the missing driver, I just want to remove it. Why  does a missing driver prevent me from removing a printer. I though that if the driver was missing it would indicate that the printer is inoperable and make removing it
    even easier.
How on earth does one get around this embargo. How does one get rid of dud printers from the control panel applet?
I am sure that these remnant printers are causing the print spooler service to keep crashing.

  • Balky printer keeps jobs until que and prints one at a time when computer is turned off

6300 printer is holding jobs in a que (sometimes saying it is on "pause") but refusing to print after it is changed to "print".  Then suddenly prints one job after computer is put to sleep, sometimes as much as an hour later!  HELP!!!

    Hi catawba ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having some communication issues between the printer and the computer.
Seeing that HP has many models of printers with 6300 in the title, please respond with your printers Model Number:
How Do I Find My Model Number?
Once I get the printer information, I can then do that appropriate research.

  • My printer keeps going off line with my network. have to set everything up every few minutes.

After getting my HP photosmart 5510 all in one printer setup on my wireless network and setup for eprint, 2 problems occurred.  The printer keeps jumping off of the network, and I have to set everything back up again.  Also, even with eprint still completely set up, none of the emails that I send are printing out???
    Please Help

For those who are experiencing ongoing issues with their web services, you can attempt to try the following steps that may help resolve your problems.
1.)    Completely shut down your printer and restart it
2.)    If you have prints that have not printed, log into ePrint Center (or create an account if you do not have one) and then look for your printer status. If printer status is green but you still have pending jobs, delete the pending jobs one at a time (Starting with the oldest first). There may be a print job stuck in the queue that further restricts other jobs from completing.
If option 1 or 2 above still doesn’t work, removing web services and re-adding web services will cause the printer to reattach to the cloud.
Please note that if you attempt option 3, you will get a new eprint email address (and lose your custom one with no ability to get it back) furthermore, you will need to re-add your printer back to your ePC account.

  • Tiger constantly complains about the printer being stopped!

I am really getting sick and tired of dealing with a problem that I for not a SINGLE DAY had in Mac OS 7-9! NOT a single day!!
Please understand my frusteration, because in some ways Mac OSX is a downgrade. Yet in many others ways is superior.
Okay yesterday or Friday I sent several faxes via my FaxSTF X app. Today I wanted to do the same but kept on getting a machine saying that my printer has stopped and I clicked on continue to add it to the que. I then opened the print manager and clicked on the start jobs icon, and nothign happened, except more temp files were created in the FaxSTF window. But no the fax never went through.
How do I fix this? I am about to buy myself a fax machine. Most companies and individuals these days do not bother with sending faxes with their computers. There are too many hassles.
For me its just plain sad that my old LC III (with Global Village Fax Center) could floor Tiger anyday in a faxing contest.
I appreciate the help. I am just really frusterated with this ibook.
    John

    Hi, John.
    1. I don't use FaxSTF X, but — if you're trying to fax through your Mac's built-in modem — I suspect the "printer" being cited may not be your actual printer but rather a FaxSTF X-related queue. What's the exact text of the message?
    2. Also, in System Preferences > Print & Fax > Faxing, assure that "Receive faxes on this computer" is de-selected. Under Panther, this FaxSTF X support article noted conflicts between their software and this preference, which relates to the built-in Fax function of Mac OS X introduced in Panther. While they've not updated this article for Tiger, it's worth a try.
    3. One other option is to check Console for clues, i.e. messages referring to FaxSTF X or print queues at the end of the logs cited in my link when the problem occurs.
    4. Finally, you may want to search the SmithMicro support database or contact them.
    Good luck!

  • HP Laserjet P2055dn prints the word JOB first

I have installed  HP Laserjet P2055dn as a local printer. But when I print a document, it prints the word 'JOB' first before printing my document. I wanted to know how to stop this option. Thank you in advance.

Yes and No. Yes, its fixed but not me. The printer resolved itself. (I don't know how). The last thing I remember is that after setting the default paper size (A4), I tried printing without changing the paper size in the printer settings, I left it as default, hit the print button, then voila! It's fixed! no more "JOB" on the first printed paper. I hope will someone will help us soon. It's been a while.

  • Printing Non-Stop

My Laser Jet P2035n prints a job over and over until you cancel the job.  The printer is rather new and had been working fine until I replaced the toner cartridge.  In looking at the 'Advaced' tab of the Printer Properties, the number of copies is "1".   This printer is networked and this issue occurs regardless of which computer is used to print.  The problem has me perplexed.
What do you think may be the problem?
    Thanks,
    David Hambright

I have the exact same issue. I'm wondering if you've found a fix yet?
I am using AirPort Express 802.11n (2nd Generation) on firmware 7.6.2.
Client OS is Windows 8 x64, with Bonjour Printer Wizard 2.0.2 and HP drivers v4.0 designed for Windows 7 x64.
Works perfectly fine in the network when commected to a PC as a shared printer. However, when hooked up with the AirPort Express, it keeps printing the same job repeatedly, till the paper runs out.
Tried disabling bidirectional support but it's the same.

  • Printer doesn't finish printing when multiple jobs in queue

I have a Laserjet 2200D that connected to a computer running 10.4.11 over USB and prints just fine when I only have one print job in queue. The issue comes up when I have multiple print jobs going to this printer, the printer will actually stop the current job it's printing and start the next job, but not finish the previous print job. If I start to line up print jobs in queue, it will only print some of the pages and then proceed to print the next job, but the previous job is already out of the queue and gone. What could possibly be wrong?

No, it shouldn't. But it also wasn't necessary to install any drivers. That's why you should reinstall the Canon drivers from the Leopard dvd.
The reason I installed the drivers is I first was trying to print wirelessly like I did with my old ibook G4 without any problems. When I couldn't get the shared printer to show up, I then read the documentation from apple tells you to make sure both computers are running the same drivers. So I installed the newest drivers which are for leopard from canon's site, but still no luck. The driver from Canon has the same version number as the one listed in the leopard documentation, so it shouldn't matter.
