Printer settings changed after upgrade to 10.8

just upgraded from 10.6 to 10.8
In 10.6 I was able to have my  Canon ix4000 printer print in black only, or saver mode etc (in the pics below this gets set up after you click one of the options).  These options seem to have all disappeared in 10.8.
Does anybody know how to get this going again?
here the window options I have in 10.8
and here in 10.6
No need to say I loaded the latest driver from the Canon site.

  • SMTP settings changed after upgrading to 10.5.5

Anyone else had this problem. I noticed after upgrading that I was sometimes getting an error when sending mail. I’ve looked at my mail account settings and they have changed back to smtp.mac.com. I’m sure they were changed to smtp.me.com when MobileMe went live.
In work at the moment so cant check, if changing them back will fix it.

    Howard,
More important than the form of name, is whether there was any change in the Port settings? Is it Port 587, as would probably be the best setting?

I can print from other programs but not PSE. I have updated the drivers. I have attached 3 screen shots with error messages.

When creating a new window in safari, using command T, the marker have not activated the search field. It means you have to click there every time. Changed after upgrading to Mavericks. Anyone knows how to change this?

Yes, you can do something like that. What you would do is create a button for each image and then hide them. When I do this type of thing I place all of the buttons on a template page and then hide the template.
You can then use JavaScript to copy the icon from any of the hidden buttons to the main button that you've set up to display the image. For example, suppose you set up 10 buttons named b1, b2, b3, ...b10. The code to copy the icon from one of them to the button used to display the image (b0) would be something like this:
// Get the icon from the b3 button
    var oIcon = getField("b3").buttonGetIcon();
// Get  reference to the b0 button
    var f = getField("b0");
// Set the icon of the b0 button to the icon retrieved from the hidden button
    f.buttonSetIcon(oIcon);
    // Show the b0 button
    f.display = display.visible;
This code would go in the Mouse Up event of the smaller button.

  • Epson r1900 Prints too dark after upgrading to cs5 from cs3

Ok this one has got me stumped.  While still in photoshop CS3 my epson r1900 was printing photo's just fine.  After upgrading cs3 to Photoshop cs5  it now prints everything too blue.  Nothing else has changed. My monitor is still calibrated, my printer paper profiles are still the same, the only change was upgrading to cs5.  To me it looks all the world like ICM is being applied twice (in photoshop and the printer) but in photoshop I have selected "photoshop manages colors" just like I did in cs3, and in the print dialog box for the printer, I have selected no ICM again just like I did in CS3.  But now the prints come out with a, to my eye, dark blue tint.  Very very frusterating.  I have deleted the color prefs file and let that recreate, but that did not help either.  I am out of tricks.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Patrick

There were a lot of reports of "double profiling" with Epson printers when Photoshop CS5 was first released.  I believe many people were seeing magenta-looking prints at that time.
Unfortunately, I don't think there was ever a resolution or even a good workaround...  I recall at least one person bought a new printer to be able to continue to work.
Of course, double check to see whether Epson has released any updated printer drivers.
As I don't have an Epson myself, I can only suggest that you'll want to experiment with your settings to see if you can find a way to disable color management in the printer driver, so that only Photoshop does it - or disable color-management in Photoshop so that only the printer driver will do it.

  • GCC Elite 21n+ Printer Stop working after Upgrade to Snow Leopard

GCC Elite 21n+ B&W Laser Printer no longer works after upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6.2.
A back-up HP 2015DN Printer works intermittently. It will not work with ethernet cable connected to Net Gear Ethernet Hub (model FS105). But will work most of the time when ethernet cable is connected directly to back of computer.
Back to GCC printer. Just cannot get it to work.
But I cannot figure out what the IP address is for the GCC printer. Tried 192.168.1.4:9300
See post (discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10127869). Still did not work.
GCC tech have this work around. Here is what I received from GCC via email.

+Since Apple has made the decision to eliminate Appletalk from it's Operating System, you are now forced to set the printer up over TCP/IP. Please keep in mind that GCC has never provided drivers for the Mac. We use the Apple Built in Print Driver. We do provide an OS X PPD Installer located on our website that I recommend you download, unstuff, install, reboot your Mac, then add the printer. You can find the Installer at http://www.gccprinters.com/support/doc/ Click on the Model of your printer and download the OS X Installer. DO NOT download the Applications Folder.+
+You will need to set the printer up over TCP/IP, which means you will need to pull the IP Address of the printer from the Printers Configuration Page. Once you've done that, please do the following:+
+You can add the printer over IP, that should work fine. Here are some steps for you to take.+
+1) Select 'System Preferences...' (4th item) from the 'Apple' menu. The 'System Preference' panel will appear as a new window.+
+2) Click on 'Print & Fax' icon (second row 'Hardware', second icon from right side). The 'System Preferences' panel will change into the 'Print & Fax' panel without opening a new window.+
+3) Click on the '+' button to add a printer (2/3 the way down on the left side on the 'Print & Fax' panel). The 'Add Printer' dialog will open in a new window.+
+4) Select the 'IP' icon in the top row of the 'Add Printer' dialog.+
+5) Next to 'Protocol' select LPD Line Printer Daemon.+
+6) Next to 'Address' type in the IP address you assigned to the printer. The Mac should prompt "complete and valid address".+
+7) (Optionally) Next to 'Name' set the name of the printer to something friendlier. Normally it defaults to the IP address enter in the previous step. The 'Name' is what the printer is called in the print dialog.+
+8) (Optionally) Next to 'Print Using' change/verify the PPD.+
+9) Click 'Add' in the bottom right corner. After a few moments the 'Add Printer' dialog will close.+
+10) The printer added in the previous step will appear in the list on the left side of the 'Print & Fax' panel. Click on the close box in the left-top of the 'Print & Fax' panel.+
+11) Done. You should be ready to print.+
Still cannot get the GCC printer to work or discover its IP address. Printer's Configuration page says
TCP/IP: Enabled IP address: Unknown subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
When I download the Drivers from GCC Web Site I only get a Text Document with loads of meaningless
gibberish. There is nothing to unstuff and install.
All worked well with OS 10.5.
    Thanks for shedding any light.
    John L.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hello John,
At this stage you will not be able to get this to print until the printer has a valid IP address. According to your post, the IP address setting is enabled but the actual IP address is unknown. This is most likely a result of the GCC being set to DHCP but if there is no DHCP server or router capable of assigning the printer an IP address, then it will not get a valid address.
So, the first thing I recommend is you check the documentation for manually setting an IP address into the printer. This address needs to be in the same subnet as your Mac. If you check System Preferences > Network on the Mac, you will see your IP address and subnet mask. If the subnet mask is set to 255.255.255.0, then you subnet will be the first three sets of numbers. For example, a device with an IP address of 192.168.1.12 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 has a subnet of 19.2.168.1 and a network address of 12. Ideally, so that other devices can communicate with this device, they also need a subnet of 192.168.1 but a different network address, any number between 1 and 250 but one that is not already being used by another device, such as 12 in this example.
Once you have the IP address set in the printer, then you add the printer as the GCC tech stated, using IP > LPD for the protocol. Note that you will only need to enter the IP address, such as 192.168.1.4 as per your post example. Don't enter any other numbers, such as the 9300 port reference you have tried already the colon after the IP address followed by the 9300).
For the Print Using, you can use Generic PostScript to begin with as a test. If you then wanted to use the GCC PPD, then the link is okay. When you select the 21+n the next page shows the 21+ installer for OS 9 and OS X. This is a stuffit packed file so you will need some form of Stuffit (Stuffit Expander is a free download) to unpack the file first. Once unpacked, there is most likely an installer that you run. This will copy the PPD files for the printer to the appropriate folder.
Hope this helps. Please reply if you require more help.

  • Print options changed after loading Photoshop 7 on Vista

I loaded Photoshop 7 on my Vista Premium machine and now I do not have all of the print size options that were listed on XP. I need these options to print photos, cards, etc. for my business. Any help would be appreciated.

It is a problem with Vista rather than Photoshop, I had the same problem but it is OK now with CS4. I got around it by changing the printer settings in Windows Control Panel before printing with PS then checking the settings were OK after clicking print. It's a nuisance when you have 2 printers that can use a lot of different size and type of paper.

  • Font rendering change after upgrade

After upgrading freetype from current to the latest version I noticed that my fonts changed. The rendering was thicker, as in most other linux distributions. Not that it was bad, but I prefer the thin ones Arch had up to now.To solve it I just downgraded freetype to the previous version and everything is fine, but I wonder if the change is due to the way both versions are configured/compiled or is it an internal change in freetype?
I ask because I'd like to keep this thinner fonts, so I want to know if I should just stop upgrading freetype forever or could I recompile the latest version to get this kind of fonts?

    Bogart wrote:
slackhack wrote:btw, do you have TFT or CRT? i have a TFT and have tried autohinting both on and off, but it looks like total crap with it off.
I have a CRT, since TFT screens hurt my eyes with their crispness. I prefer the smooth CRT image. I use the defult hinting (medium), though I've found that if I turn it to full hinting I get the thinner fonts too with this latest freetype, so now I can choose without the need to downgrade.
that must be the reason, because i have a TFT and just upgraded to the latest freetype2/fontconfig, and the fonts look worse than ever. changing hintfull to hintmedium in ~/.fonts.conf has no effect whatsoever. i moved the /etc/fonts/conf.d directory, no effect, removed local.conf, no effect. nothing seems to fix them, it's really annoying.  and worst of all, the old freetype2 isn't installing because it requires an older fontconfig, and when i try to install an older fontconfig, i get some libexpat library error and everything crashes when i try to launch it.
    >>update: i just checked in gnome, and the fonts look really good there. XFCE4 must use some different method of hinting the fonts than gnome, which i thought uses the freetype2 autohinter. i changed hinting to medium in the xfce4 UI settings, and that improved things a little, even though i have hintmedium set in ~/.fonts.conf. maybe xfce4 uses the BCI hinter and bypasses the freetype hinter?

  • Adjustment effects changed after upgrades

Here is the problem statement: the effect of certain adjustments made in previous versions of Aperture changes after some Aperture upgrades. As a result, files processed in Aperture change appearance, sometimes dramatically. Does anyone have a method of managing this problem?
I believe that the behaviour is inevitable; Aperture applies adjustments to the orginal master at "run time". This means that as underlying processing methods are changed between different versions of the software their effect on the final outcome, especially in conjunction with other adjustments, can sometimes be dramatically different. For some adjustments, like the RAW processor, Apple provided an "Upgrade" control that allows you to decide whether or not you want to risk the upgrade of that adjustment for a particular image. However, I found that many times there are more changes that cannot be manually managed.
When I open an older RAW file with many adjustments, for a few seconds I can still see the old preview of the image. The preview looks exactly as it should. This only lasts while the engine is recalculating and applying the adjustments according to the new method. Then, Aperture rebuilds the image preview and I can clearly see the difference (usualy the result is disastrous). Having thousands of processed RAW files, pulling up one of them feels like Russian roulette: I never know whether I lost my work or not.
Other than exporting all processed files as TIFFs BEFORE ANY Aperture upgrade I cannot think of a reasonable way to mitigate this. Aperture vaults are useless in this case, as the new version of Aperture re-applies all adjustments according to the new methods. (Please note that versions that do not have certain Aperture adjustments applied are fine; all TIFFs processed externally are unchanged, unless they have Aperture controls applied at the end of the workflow)
    Any ideas, anyone?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sorin Vacaru

The latest is the Highlights and Shadows adjustment. I am not 100% sure when it changed (I could find out, though), but if you open with version 3.4.3 older images that used the H&S adjustment you can actually see an "Upgrade" button in the H&S adjustment panel.
But Apple took care to provide backward compatibility, because they wanted to ensure, that you will be able to keep the old settings. Only if you willingly press that "upgrade" button your images will be reprocessed. In my library not a single image did change.
A clear indication of the problem that I have is that when I open and old edit I can still see the old (correct) preview, until Aperture reprocesses the adjustments and the preview. There is nothing I can do from that point onwards to recover the old edit and look.
Have you changed the Preview settings? In the latest version you can opt to use the camera previews instead of Aperture generated previews (In the Import tab of the Preferences panel). If you toggled recently from "Camera previews" to "Standard Previews", any rebuilding of previews will change the previews you are seeing.

  • Unable to print from iPhoto after upgrading to Yosemite?

Whenever I want to print from iPhoto, the application on the IMac becomes unresponsive and will not print. This all started after upgrading to Yosemite. My printer is updated, so now I have no idea how to make this work again. Any help would be great.

OK and I see the issue is only with iPhoto. The only thing I can think of is resetting the printing system and then re-installing the printer(s). DO NOT use any of the printer's software for installing, simply follow the directions for adding a printer in Mac Basics: Printing in OS X - Apple Support.
To reset the printing system, open System Preferences - Printers & Scanners - locate the device in the window on the left and right click the offending printer and select Reset Printing System....
After you have reset the printing system and re-added the device then shutdown (not restart) the computer for about 30 seconds and restart and then test.

  • Cannot print to Adobe PDF printer from Word after upgrading to Win 7 64bit

Hi. After upgrading my operating system from Windows XP to Windows 7 64 bit, I can no longer print to the Adobe PDF printer (e.g. from Word). It just sits in the Adobe PDF printer queue saying "Error" without bringing up the "Save As" dialog box, and nothing happens. I am running Adobe Acrobat 8.0.0 (I've checked for updates but it says none are available). I have tried doing a repair installation following the instructions on this website (http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/error-file-adobepdf-dll-needed.html) but to no avail.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I think it's time to upgrade. 64-bit systems weren't much in use at the time of Acrobat 8.0.

  • Digital AV Adapter: "Accessory not supported" and "TV Out" settings gone after upgrading iPad 2 to iOS 5.0.1

I've used the digital AV Adapter (bought in Apple Store) nicely on iPad 2 with iOS 4.3.x.
After upgrading to iOS 5.0.1 the TV Out settings have disappeared from the General Settings menu (no matter if adapter is plugged in or not).
I thought that maybe it was time to do a full reset (just in case), so I did that, while the adapter was still plugged in.
When the iPad finished resetting I got a popup message on the lock screen saying:
"This Accessory is Not Supported by iPad"
The adapter sort of works, i.e. there is a picture on my TV, but I cannot control the TV output settings which I could in iOS 4.3.x.
The TV Out settings are completely missing from the General Settings menu (if they were moved in iOS 5.0.1 somewhere else, I could not find them).
The "TV Out" menu item is not there at all.
I cannot select between PAL/NTSC output anymore which is crucial for me as it seems that the iPad current setting is PAL, while I need to be it NTSC, otherwise video drop frames/stutters when played back over a TV.
What I would like to know if there is anybody out there who has iOS 5.0.1 and actually can see the "TV Out" settings under the General Settings (I think it should follow the "iTunes Wi-Fi Sync" directly), because no matter what I did I cannot the settings menu to be displayed (I've reset the device, plugged and unplugged the adaptor and HDMI cable multiple times, tried different TVs, etc)
Or, if the settings are in fact, gone by design, then how am I supposed to play 23.976 or 24 FPS media on a 1080p50 TV without stuttering (don't answer that, I know it is impossible, I am just frustrated). This is the first ever device I bought from Apple and I must say I am not that impressed by such turn of events.
I mean, what kind of update removes essential features and makes the officially produced accessory suddenly "not supported"? Did they even test their own official accessory?? Seems not to me.
This thread is talking about sort of similar issue (although it is about the VGA adapter):
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2413622?start=0&tstart=0

    Hi,
the settings are gone, i guess. But even worse, I cannot get the iPad2 to play Full HD thru the Apple digital AV adaptor using apps that support  (and advertise this), like AVPlayer HD. This definiteley used to work before one of the last iOS upgrades. (I am now at 5.1.1).
