Printing from a 32 bit client in a 64 bit environment (laserjet 4000 n with windows 7)

I have a HP laserjet 4000n connected to a 64 bit windows 7 machine.  Another client (32 bit) on my network wants to print to that printer.  I saw on the support website instructions for how to do this:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=110&prodSeriesId=...
So far, I have installed the 64 bit driver (just re-installed and I can print from the 64 bit server).
I then downloaded the 32 bit driver files (for PCL 5) and saved them.
I then went to the printing properties of  the printer and chose advanced drivers and checked the box "x86". The instructions called for finding the file "hpcuXXXc.inf".  In the printer driver folder, there were 2 subfolders - one marked 64 bit and inside that folder was a file "hpcu112t.inf" (file ends in "t" not "c") - so I chose that file and pressed ok and got the following error message:
The specified location does not contain the driver HP LaserJet 4000 Series PCL5 for the requested processor architecture.
I then downloaded more drivers (for PCL 6 - even though my printer is labelled PCL 5).  This time, I got no 64 bit subfolder (only one folder labelled windows vista).  However , there WAS a file labelled "hpcu112c" this time - so I chose that and still got the same error message.
Help!?
Thanks.
Janc

Phychopomp1,
Windows 7 64 bit is able to run 32 bit programs. However, some programs will have issues.
Have you checked your programs against the Windows 7 compatibility list: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=2394
This should tell you if they are compatible or not with Windows 7 64-bit.
There are compatibility settings that you can try once you have installed the software also. Right click on the shortcut and choose properties, then go to the compatibility tab and try the various OS settings.
If those things fail, then you should try Windows XP Mode (convenience link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx). This will allow you to install your programs in a virtual copy of Windows XP SP3 using Windows Virtual PC. Once XP Mode is installed, when you install your software into it, you will get a shortcut to use the program from your Windows 7 start menu without even seeing the XP Mode window.
Hope this helps,
David

  • How do I print from a 64-bit client to 32-bit printer?

My company just bought 2 new pcs, 3120MT and they are 64bit windows 7 Pro. Since there's just one printer in the office, it's connected to a Windows XP Pro 32bit machine. How do I get my new pcs to print from the network to that machine?
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)

Sharing from Windows XP to any newer OS might do you a problem, as the host PC's OS have drivers for older operating systems only.
The easiest way would be to share it from the Windows7 to the Windows XP
We can try setting the sharing manually by using an alternative driver, However, you will have to provide me your exact printer model in order to provide you any possible steps to try.
Say thanks by clicking the Kudos thumb up in the post.

  • Is FireFox available in 64 bit OS that is compatable with windows?

the current version of FireFox doesnt really work well with Windows 10 in 64 bit because it is only 32 bit. I had to uninstall FireFox before because it would quit working and freeze up. I can'teven begin to list all of the problems that I had with FireFox OS in 32 bit.

Win32 Firefox 37.0.2 works on 64-bit Windows. There is no Win64 Firefox Release yet. Windows 10 is still being worked on.
Firefox 38.0 may be the first to have Win64 Firefox as there is Win64 builds of Firefox 38.0 (currently at 38.0b6) on the Beta channel. https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/beta/all/

  • Printing from IE8 6 bit

I am using the 64bit version of IE8 and am unable to print anything from a web page. I googled the problem and found a solution, namely, to turn off Protected Mode in the IE security settings.
Whilst this indeed works I am uneasy about working in this mode. Is HP producing drivers for the 64 bit version of IE8?
    My printer is the F2480.

  • How can page margins be changed when printing from Firefox for Mac OS X? (This is easy to do on the Windows version.)

Page margins can be adjusted from the page setup menu in the Windows version of Firefox, but there does not appear to be an equivalent menu in the Mac version.

    Hi onlyhuman2-
I'm not familiar with the printing options using Windows. I've found this article on editing print options for a Mac: [[Printing a web page]]
That shows you how to shrink the page, and to edit page headers and footers. I'm hoping that covers the margins you were hoping to change.
    Good luck!

  • How to make 32-bit-only add-ons work with Windows 7, Internet Explorer 11 and Enhanced Protected Mode enabled?

    Hi everybody,
in IE10 I had the chance to use 32-bit-tabs even with EPM. In IE11 my 32-bit add-ons are all marked as "incompatible".
    Do you have any suggestions?
    Regards, Don

    Hi Don,
The ”Enhanced Protected Mode ” feature of  Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 7 has been simplified and it doesn`t provide the “Enable 64-bit processes for Enhanced Protected Mode” feature. The Enhanced Protected  Mode is based on the 64 bit process.
So that may be the reason.
Here is a link for reference of Enhanced Protected Mode :

    Hello Yolanda,
    a) I noticed that I can´t install MediaCenter on Win8, but just on Win8 Pro.
    b) My problem is, as described, that installing "MediaCenter" on either "Win8 Pro" or "Win8.1 pro", though the "Media Center" key is accepted,
which I once 2 years ago downloaded on ANOTHER "Windows 8 Pro" computer, for free as it was a gift of Microsoft  at that time - You could reserve = get up to 5 Media Center licenses per "Windows 8  Pro" computer for later use
on OTHER "Windows 8 Pro" computers - but never used ( i.e. NEVER USED FOR ACTIVATION ),
but after the first reboot, I am running "Windows 8 Pro with Media Center" WITHOUT LICENSE, as shown in the system screen.
Neither my "Windows Media Center Key" nor my "WIndows 8 Pro key" is then accepted to change the situation - I mean the keys I entered just before during the installation process of "Windows 8 Pro" and "Windows Media Center".
I am shure that I did not use the "Windos Media Center" key, as I have a list of personal keys I got for free from Microsoft, and I marked those 2, I used for other "Windows 8 Pro" computers.
So fact is, that with my brand-new computer, 32 Gigabytes of RAM, 4 Cores, "Win8 Pro" installed, I am forced to avoid the installation of "Windows Media Center", though I got valid licenses.
So your answer was not quiet helpful, as it does not change anything.
    Sincerely
    Rolf

  • Issues with 64 bit win 7 clients printing from 2008 R2 print server

    Hello All,
I have a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 64 bit server built with a print server role. My issue is  64 bit win 7 clients cannot add a new printer. The clients see the printer in the list, starts the printer installation, get to the point of downloading the
driver & then fails ' Windows cannot connect to the printer. ' the error is 0x0000012 or 0x000003ee. Any way I try to add the new printer I get the same result. The only way I can get the printer added is to do a local printer with the full path \\servername\printer_name
and then "have disk" and point to the driver folder on the print server to get the printer added.
Anyone have any thoughts on why the 64 bit clients will not add a new printer from a 64 bit print server ?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
Please check if you can ping the print server successfully from this Windows 7 client computer. Did you encounter
the same issue when add other printers? Or just for this one printer?
    Please type
regedit on Run to open Registry Editor and follow the path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\Connections and check if there has existent printer connection on the registry key.
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu

  • Print report to client printer from forms

    Hi,
I need to print a report directly to a client printer.
There is a utility called ORARRP - Oracle Reports Remote Printing Utility.
But the document I saw was from Oct 2001 - so is this still the only and best option ?
I'm using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT in forms to launch the report.
This works fine when the DESTYPE is FILE and DESNAME = PDF
The PDF-outputt is then successfully shown with WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT
When changing DESTYPE to PRINTER and DESNAME to clients printername then report won't run. "Report filed with error message TERMINATED_WITH_ ERROR".
Is it possible to print directly to a client printer using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT ?
(Our client printers are not networkprinters)
    Environment:
    Forms [32 Bit] version 9.0.4.0.19
    Report Builder 9.0.4.0.33
    Reportsserver on linux
    Thanks !
    Sam

(Our client printers are not networkprinters)This means you cannot print from the server directly on the client printer with destype=printer, since the server cannot see the printer.
So, a manual print command by the user from the browser or the orarrp utility are your options.

  • Printing From Client With Only libcups Installed

I setup a working print server and installed only libcups (per wiki) on my desktop. Printing from my desktop works for in firefox, open office, and several other programs with the notable exception of Adobe Reader which tries to use an 'lpr' command.
I cannot print from the command line using lpr either.
    Desktop:~$ lp -P ...
    bash: lp: command not found
    and
    Desktop:~$ lpr -P ...
    bash: lpr: command not found
Does anyone know how other programs are managing to print without lp/lpr?

I suspect they use libcups directly.  Libcups's cups.h includes a function "cupsPrintFile()" which I suspect they call to print a file ... after the necesary initializations.
Why would you not want to install cups to get the tools to use this properly?
