Printing from the Delivery Engine to non CUPS enable printers

Hello,
I have a EBS R12.1.1 customer who has a requirement to either Email or Print AR Invoices. However, they have rejected using BIP the Bursting and Delivery Engine because their printers are not CUPPS enabled and they dont want them to be. So instead they have designed a custom solution which forces the invoice print to run for an individual invoice at a time. Obviously this is now causing them some performance issues.
Is there a workaround that is used to get round the restriction that the delivery engine can only to to CUPS enabled printers?
Thanks
Mark

Hi,
Assuming you are generating PDF output you can actually print via Delivery Manager directly to printers without a CUPS installation as long as the print itself is enabled for IPP requests.
This is done on the print server itself using Microsoft Internet Information Services (MIIS) and will need to be done by the clients infrastructure team. Once it has been enabled you can navigate to the print server via a web browser using the supported syntax (something like http://<print_host>/.printer - check internet for syntax). You will then see a list of printers enabled for IPP printing on that server. You will be able to click on the printer which will take you to a standard page showing the current printer status. After selecting the printer, make a note of the URL from the print server as you will need this.
You can then use delivery manager to submit a request entering the print server for DeliveryPropertyDefinitions.IPP_HOST and the path to the printer and printer name for DeliveryPropertyDefinitions.IPP_PRINTER_NAME.
You will also need to convert your PDF file to PostScript so that the printer can interpret it. See documentation on using GhostScript (pdf2ps) to do this. Once the conversion utility has been installed on the server you can set DeliveryPropertyDefinitions.IPP_DOCUMENT_FORMAT_POSTSCRIPT and DeliveryPropertyDefinitions.FILTER to the executable on the server which will perform the conversion.
Some of the newer models of printer support PDF natively in which case you won't have to perform the conversion (which can cause a slight shifts in the report layout since the PDF file is actually converted using an algorithm).
One other thing, you won't be able to use the same approach for faxing to IPP enabled devices. In this case you definitely need the CUPS request broker having been through a lot of pain in trying to get it working.
Good luck.

I have an e printer and the printer is on the same network as the iPad. When I attempt to print from the iPad I get a message no printers available. How can I get my iPad to recognize the e printer?

This printer has worked for me with out fail at my house.  I am traveling in an RV and am at the mercy of the RV Wifi.  I do not have access to the router.  The printer has been recycled a number of times as well as the Ipad.  The printer is set up and has access to the wifi.  It seems to me that the Ipad and Iphone are not recognizing the connection with the e printer.  I was hoping there was some adjustment that could be made to the Ipad and Iphone.  I can email to the printer from both gadgets.  I will try to recycle the devices again.

Printopia is another option but be aware that since these solutions effectively act as a print server and AirPrint receiver, they require a computer to be running on the same WiFi network.
Canon also has a couple of apps in the App Store that might facilitate this on non-AirPrint printers. Check out...

  • How can I print from my iPhone to a non AirPrint printer

How can I print from my iPhone to a non AirPrint printer?  I was told by an Apple tech to do so via Airpot Express USB port. I already have a wired and wireless network and printers connected via Ethernet.  I am just trying to print from my iPad and/or iPhone to my existing printers...if possible. I tried the airport express but that does not appear to do what I need. Any help or a definitive "no way" would be appreciated.

There are third-party apps that permit this. If on a MAC, get this:

    PC, get this:

  • For no apparent reason, the printing from the iPad to the HP wireless printer was no more possible, while it was still possible from the iPhone.

For no apparent reason, the printing from the iPad to the HP wireless printer was no more possible, while it was still possible from the iPhone 5. Any idea why?

Gutenprint drivers are intended for non-laser printers. HP supplies the proper drivers, and you can download the latest version directly from HP's support site. Or you can install the most recent HP drivers provided by Apple.
Printing speeds do not include the time it may take to transfer data to the printer. It also doesn't take into account the time it takes for the printer to be prepared to start printing. Color is much slower than B/W.
Contact HP for any additional assistance you may need since these forums do not provide support for non-Apple products.

  • Color quality difference by printing from the Organizer vs the Editor

When a print the a photo from the Organizer I get a good quality print, one that closely represents the image on the computer screen.  But when I print the identical print from the Editor mode, the colors are darker -- more black pigment in all of the colors and no where near as representitive of the image on the screen.  How can I get the prints from the Editor mode to be more like the ones from the Organizer  -- more like the images on the screen?......Jim

    Organizer :
    Image Space:  sRGB IEC61933-2.1
Print Space :   Same as Source      (What is "Source"?)
This means that the Organizer is sending the photo to the printer without adjusting any of its colors (the default behavior).
    Editor  :
Color Handling : Printer Manages Color
Source Space :  Same as in Organizer
Rendering Intent : Relative Colorimetric    (What ever that is)
This means that the Editor is sending the photo to the printer without adjusting any of its colors.  "Relative colorimetric" means that if there is a color in the photo that the printer isn't capable of printing, the printer will chose the nearest color.  (This is the default behavior.)
So you've verified that the Organizer and Editor are using the default print settings.  They have two different "print engines", but with a printer made in the last several years and photo in the sRGB color space, they would normally produce nearly identical results with these settings.  What's your printer and how old is it?
My next suggestion is to download the most recent printer driver and install it (even if you already have the most recent one).  This can reset the printer settings to their defaults.
If that doesn't work (and it likely won't), then you could consider configuring PSE to manage colors, rather than letting the printer manage colors.  But getting that to work right often can involve a fair amount of effort, reading your printer's documentation to get the printer configured properly (it's different for each manufacturer and often for different models).

  • HT4356 When printing from the iPad how to control how many pages of the document to print?

When printing from the iPad, how to control how. Any pages of the document to print?

You got me curious (even though I've never used coupons.com, and I have an AirPrint printer).  So I checked out coupons.com in the iTunes Store and found the following two reviews that I think explain everything:
Based on the above, my conclusion is coupons.com is set up to print on wireless HP printers from an iPad.  You could print to a non-AirPrint HP printer as well using an app from the iTunes Store.  But the non-AirPrint printers do offer considerably less compatibility with Apple's iPad applications than the AirPrint ones do.  For example, in the Epson case, non-AirPrint Epsons can print from Safari but not from email.

  • I am using a Pixma MG3222. Print is very small, no matter if I print from the Web or a document.

I am using a Pixma MG3222. Print is very small, no matter if I print from the Web, PDF or a document using any of the iMac apps.  Also, the Quick Menu does not show any functions in the Print or Manual & Device Information sections. This problem is only on my iMac (OS X 10.8.5). The printer works fine on my PC. For the iMac I have downloaded the Mini Master Setup driver and then the Quick Menu and EZ Photo print software. Can anyone help? I've been at for several days and am beyond frustrated!

    Hi mac,
We have updated the printer & scanner driver since the Mini Master Setup was posted, please try installing the following listed below from HERE:

  • How can I print from the icon in FF5?

I have been unable to print from any of the icons in FF5. This has only occurred in the past few days. The only way I can print is to "Select" on the page, and then "Print Selection" on the print screen. I can print from IE by using the icons.
This is also true with my Yahoo email.

In Mac OS X, right-clicking the document's icon brings up a similar menu, but documents are printed from the application, not from the OS. The application is launched, the document opened, and the document sent to the printer, bypassing only the Print dialogue.
The same route may be triggered by dragging and dropping the file's icon onto the printer's icon in the Dock.

  • Can't print from the internet but other stuff I can

I have had my printer for about 4 months now and everything has been fine until the other day when it stopped printing from the internet.  Now that I think about it, it's about the same time I put new ink in.  But I can print from Word and other stuff.  I even pulled up the printer in Devices and Printers and did a test page and everything was fine.  I have an HP Envy 4501 (Print Scan Copy Photo).  I use Chrome for my internet and like I said, I've never had a problem in the past with it.
I downloaded the HP Print and Scan Doctor and it said everything was good.  When I select to have my email printed, it opens it in a new window and then it does the print display for me and I have to select 'Print using system dialog...(Ctrl+Shift+P)' and then it opens the print window.  It has my printer selected, I hit print and nothing happens.  My printer icon appears down by my clock in the lower right hand corner of my computer and when I hover over it, it says '(1) document pending for Missy' but then nothing happens and a few seconds later it changes to '(0) document pending for Missy'.  ????
What am I doing wrong??  Help please!!!

    Hi MissyDub,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you are having a problem printing from Google Chrome, where the print job is shown, but then leaves the queue. I would be happy to assist you with this issue!
It sounds as though the issue is isolated to Google Chrome. To restore the browser settings (and printing settings) for Chrome you can uninstall and reinstall the software. If you are using a Mac, you can follow this document. If you are using a Windows computer, you can follow this document.
If that is still giving you trouble, you can also (contact Chrome Support) to find out if further assistance is necessary with their program.
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums, and I will look forward to your reply!

    Hi,
Here are a couple of things to try.  I would first start with downloading and running the Print Diagnostic Utility.  IF this doesn't clear it up, then try the document on Problems printing from the internet.

Not with the built-in AirPrint print function.  However, you can download free and cheap print apps that can provide some (limited) printing abilities.  HP's iPrint is one of those.
