Printing in SGD

Hi
I tried to configur printing in SGD reading
http://<sgd-server>/tarantella/help/en-us/admin/chapter5.html#Z40008fb1315608
I ran prtinstall.en.sh on the application server (using lpr)
I installed cups-lpd on the sgd-server and configured it to accept connections from external hosts.
In cups on the sgd-server I see a printer "tta_printer"
Now as I log on the sgd, start an xterm running on the application server and run
/opt/tarantella/bin/ld -d "Universal PDF Printer" <ps-file>
... and nothing happenes.
With a little debugging I foud out that the application server sends the job to the sgd-server and cups recognizes the job.
But cups immediately sets the job to "done" and I do not see anything on the sgd client.
Looking at the cups configuration I realized that the URI of the printer is set to /dev/null :-/
Is this correct?
For debugging I changed this to /tmp/testfile, ran the lp command and looked at the file
-> looks like postscript :-/
So I guess that the job is correctly send to the sgd-server but never reaches any component of tarantella as cups just smashes the job to /dev/null.
Which configuration setting/step did I miss?
Any hints?
Regards
Sebastian Ries

Hello, do you still have this problem? If so, how did you solve it?
I am surprised that no one responded to this...

New Default PDF Printer Driver for Windows Applications
The default printer driver used for Portable Document Format (PDF) printing from Windows application servers is now HP Color LaserJet 2800 Series PS. This change was made to provide support for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 application servers.
In previous releases, the default PDF printer driver was HP Color LaserJet 8500 PS. If you are upgrading from an installation that uses this printer driver, SGD is reconfigured automatically to use the new default printer driver. If you are upgrading from an installation where you have configured SGD to use a different printer driver, your existing configuration is preserved on upgrade. If you are using using Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, or Windows XP application servers, the new default printer driver results in the PDF printer not being mapped.

  • Inverted images when printing pdf to Universal PDF driver

Our company is beginning to use SSGD with two Windows XP instances (via RDP?). We deal largely with pdf forms that contain black & white bitmap image data. Within the SGD Windows instance, the pdf opens fine in Adobe Reader. Printing to any of the local printers configured on SGD is also fine. When printing to either of the Universal PDF print drivers (Printer or Viewer), however, the image portions of the document show up on the client side with inverted black/white.
This occurs only for images embedded in the pdf. If I print the image as a separate bitmap file, it comes out fine on the client side.
    Any ideas?

what version of SGD and what version of Ghostscript do you have installed on the SGD server?
    $ tarantella version
    $ gs -V
it may be that you have an older version of Ghostscript or not all the proper fonts installed
    http://docs.sun.com/source/820-6689/chapter5.html#d0e26763
another thing to test is how the PS print job looks like before it gets converted by Ghostscript. You can pause the printing on SGD 'tarantella print pause' then look for the PS file on your Windows XP instance (c:\TEMP) is the usual location of the file. See if it is not being rendered properly. If it is not, then you would want to choose a different driver to use
    http://docs.sun.com/source/820-6689/appendix1.html#d0e49203
try another driver and see if that makes a difference.

  • Printing Basics Question

I'm trying to figure out the basics of printing in SGD and was hoping someone could shed a bit more light on it for me.
First off, I have printing working. I have Windows 2003 App Servers, fronted by a SGD on Solaris 10 and Solaris 10 clients using web browser access to SGD. My problem lies in the fact that each Solaris client may have a different make and model of printer attached to it. The SGD host is shared between all clients and therefore has a shared printer configuration between users and hosts.
When a user logs into a given host and starts a Windows desktop they see the _Default printer defined as the default printer type (the QMS 1060 Print System) so when they try to print they get none of the advanced features of the printer such as color or duplexing.
I'm trying to figure out a way so that, when a user logs into a particular client (they will use different clients all the time) they will see only the printers attached to that client with those printers drivers properly configured. Is there a way to do this?

    Hi.
By default (as dictated by the /opt/tarantella/etc/data/default.printerinfo.txt file), the UNIX/Linux clients get a predefined "QMS 1060 Print System" when conencting to Windows app servers; this is because the SSGD client is not able to find out the exact brand/model of the printer being used on the UNIX/Linux client side.
If the SSGD client is operating under a Windows environment, then the client is able to pick up the correct driver as to create an equivalent printer on the server side (assuming the server does have the required driver).
Back to UNIX/Linux clients: by amending the above file (or by copying the same file under $HOME/.tarantella/printerinfo.txt) you can instruct SSGD at to configure printers on the Windows server accordingly; as an example (taken from the SSGD 4.41 admin guide - see references below) if you put the following lines into the $HOME/.tarantella/printerinfo.txt file (on the CLIENT, NOT on the SSGD server):
    [UNIX]
"drafts" = "HP DeskJet 970Cxi" PCL
"salesprinter" = "HP LaserJet 5/5M" PostScript
when SSGD connects to the Windows server, the user will then see a couple of printers available:
    drafts/SSGD_SERVERNAME/SESSION_NUMBER
    salesprinter/SSGD_SERVERNAME/SESSION_NUMBER
Please notice that SSGD_SERVERNAME and SESSION_NUMBER are actually placeholders for the name of the SSGD server and the number of RDP session calculated by the Windows server.
Of course, you'll have to make sure drivers for both "HP Desktop 970 Cxi" and "HP Laserjet 5/5M" are available on the Windows server (you don't have to create the above printers first, only make sure the drivers are available).
You'll notice the PCL and PostScript entries and the end of the above lines; they're used to inform SSGD of the "type" of the printer (ie, which language the printer supports) so that the tta_print_converter can eventually "convert" among different print types (eg, from PostScript to PDF, from text to Postscript and son on).
You'll find more info on this subject in the SSGD admin guide: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-4907
    Hope this helps.
    Ciao,
    Rob

  • Can't Print ( No Client Printer available ) on SGD 4.3.915 Webtop

Using SGD 4.3.915 with Java JRE 6.0 Update1 (or any Java Version), connecting via Webtop (ie 7 and firefox 1.5.0.12) returns you a "no client printer" error. Using classic webtop is just fine, pdf printing is available there.
Default printer on client (win xp sp2) is a network printer connected via unc share.
any checklists available? Maybe some fiile system permissions, can s/o post me the correct permissions and ownerships for the /opt/tarantella/webserver directory pls?
    regards
    joerg

the sgd is running on a sles 10.
the initial installation was fine, but we had some printing issues and java permisions, so we "opened" the fs permissions to get it working.
now i needed a template to change it back to the original fs permissions, therefore i extracted the rpm file.

  • Problem Printing to Large Format Printers From SGD

I am having a problem printing to large format printers when using the PDF printing option for SGD. The SDG Universal PDF Viewer recognizes the print format that I specify but on the client device side the pdf that is produced is always Letter size. If a larger format is speciied the client side pdf displays a small portion of it - almost as if it were clipped at the Letter size. Has anyone experienced this. Is it an SGD problem per se or is it an issue with the Ghostscript configuration and if so is ther a way I can change the config?
I am running 4.6.2 in an RHEL5 environment. The application server I am primarily working with is Windows Server 2008. The printers I have tried to print larger formats to are HP CLJ 2800 PS (Tabloid size), HP Designjet Z6100 (E size), and HP DesignJet 4020ps(E size). In all cases the plot appears to have been clipped into a Letter size format on the client device side.
    Thanks,

You may have encountered a limitation with the GARO driver, especially if it is connected to the USB port of the Express. We have an iPF8100 but it is connected directly to our network via Ethernet so I've never tested the printer via USB. But if the driver is anything like the consumer inkjet drivers, there is often issues with the driver determining the printer model on the end of the USB and this stops the printer queue creation.
Have you tried connecting the printer via Ethernet to the Express and then seeing if you can add the printer queue? You will have to set an IP address in the machine if DHCP is not enabled.

  • Sgd 4.4 printing

    Hi there,
I just upgraded a test system to sda 4.4 and i am getting printing issues, i have the following set..
    solaris 10
    sgd 4.4
    server 2003 TS
    XP client
The printer i want to print to is installed on the XP client, the drivers are also on the TS, i can print to it from both machines. When i log into sgd, the printer icon in the bottom left corner shows the printer i have installed on the client has been mapped. If i open an app and try to print, i cant see the printer there, only all of the connection sessions and a couple of printers installed on the TS that i dont want to see. If i try and print from the app and add a new printer through the app then it works no probs, but as far as i am aware this is not the way things are supposed to be done. As far as i understand, your SGD session looks at your client installed printer and sets that up, but this isnt happening. Please someone help with this as its doing my head in.
    Thx in adv.

Probably you are trying to print in a network printer, i mean, you don't have the printer instaled locally in the client you are mapping the printer from a server.
Take a look at this thread:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5267641&tstart=0
There you can "read" a solution, but i din't probe it yet. Make it at your own.

  • SGD 4.41 on RHel 5.3 -- Printing Bug?

    Hi guys,
Does anyone have my configuration -- SGD 4.41 running on RHel Enterprise 5.3 (32 bit)?* Are you able to print from a Windows SGD client to any printer (tta_printer or a local CUPS printer)?
I am convinced that there is a print issue with this setup because RHel 5.3 is still pretty new. Are there any Sun Tech GODs out there? Can you play with this scenario and revert?
    Crestfallen, cj.

H Carmelomtta, thanks for the pointer; I've read that document several times but I have some progress to report.
    I inserted +/opt/tarantella/bin+ in my bash_profile before /usr/bin.
I paused tta_printer and my local printer using cupsdisable tta_printer Ljet6p*.
Then from my Windows SGD Client, I directed 2 jobs to the tta_printer; I saw the jobs on the print queue: tta_printer-141 & tta_printer-142.
I ran another report from the SGD client but this time, I used the command *'lp -d Ljet6p /etc/hosts';* I saw a third job tta_printer-143. So far, so good!
Then I enabled the printers using +'cupsenable tta_printer Ljet6p'+; poof, all three jobs disappeared...no printouts. Arrhgh!!!
Thanks for your help and attention.

  • Nothing Shows up in my Printer Queue

I have a HP Colour Laserjet CP1515n. I've connected through a USB cable not Via the network. I have installed it and all works fine besides from one thing. Whenever I send a document to print it prints straight to the printer. Therefore nothing goes in to the Print Queue. I then can't delete documents if they are by mistake etc.  Does anyone have an Idea as to why this is happening?
    Thanks
Message Edited by Logoff on 11-19-2009 06:17 AM

Yes, I have been through the documentation. I have isolated the problem to the SGD Server by working my way through the checklists. The results on the check for display say:
    - Printing services available
    - Jobs spooled: 0
    Total jobs spooled: 0
I have checked the Printing tab section of the admin console and everything is in order there.
I am not using an array just a single host and trying to configure for the first time.
Ghostscript is found and worked in the scripts.
I tried printing the testpage using the script and I also tried direct but received nothing on the client.
Using the lpstat -t command I get the following:
    scheduler is running
    system default destination: tta_printer
    device for tta_pdfprinter: lpd://acrtek-lab.com/tta_pdfprinter
    device for tta_printer: lpd://acrtek-lab.com/tta_printer
    tta_pdfprinter accepting requests since Mon Apr 19 15:04:29 2010
    tta_printer accepting requests since Mon Apr 19 16:13:16 2010
printer tta_pdfprinter is idle. enabled since Mon Apr 19 15:04:29 2010
printer tta_printer is idle. enabled since Mon Apr 19 16:13:16 2010
I have verified that print jobs are transferred from the Application hosts to the SGD Server. I am able to locate them in /opt/tarantella/var/spool where they stay for awhile then they disappear. If I watch the CUPS console I see the job appear and it shows as completed then it appears again as a held job and then eventually aborts.
it appears that what ever is supposed to be sending the job to the client is either not receiving the job or is failing but I am not sure what and cannot find any errors that point to a problem.

  • Using SGD with SunRays

We're looking to deploy SunRays into a SGD environment, and I have many questions. Would appreciate any feedback/answers/opinions on the following:
    1) Does SGD support SunRays natively, or does the SunRay server software need to be installed as well? If so, are there issues with installing both on the same physical server (without using zones)?
    2) Do users need to login twice - once to the SunRay server software, then again to the SGD page? Can we achieve SSO?
    3) Can USB keys/drives be made accessible to published Windows applications via SGD (it would appear so from the docs, has anyone done this successfully?)
    4) Can a printer attached to a SunRay be made accessible to published Windows apps?
    5) SGD is currently configured to authenticate against active directory. Will I have to create unix users for all active directory users?
I'm aware that Sun Ray Server 4 allows direct connection to Windows apps, but we also need PC/Web users to be able to access the same apps (this is already working).
Thanks for any feedback you can provide.
    -Simon

    Hi Simon
we are using SGD 4.2 and SRSS3.1 - so just my little
    feedback:
1 )Does SGD support SunRays natively, or does the
SunRay server software need to be installed as well?
Independet applications - you have to install both.
    1) If so, are there issues with installing both on
the same physical server (without using zones)?
That's what we are running for a long time in the
past: SRSS and SGD on the same server (Solaris 9).
Zones are not necessary but might be usefull.
    2) Do users need to login twice - once to the SunRay
server software, then again to the SGD page?
Yes. Maybe there will be a possibility in SGD 4.3.
For our environment, log on SR and SGD is not a
problem: The SRSS Session don't have to finished,
just detach it to the background - if you are comming
back and log on, SGD is still open :-). Our SunRay
Sessions normaly live 4-8 weeks. There are ways to do SSO between Sun Ray and SGD depending on your needs.
    >
    2a) Can we achieve SSO?
I don't know of any good solution
    3) Can USB keys/drives be made accessible to
published Windows applications via SGD (it would
appear so from the docs, has anyone done this
    successfully?)
As far as I know: no for SRSS on Sparc. I don't know
SRSS on x86, but I heard that USB Sticks on SRSS 3.1
x86 are not supported at all. In SGD 4.3 this might
be possible ! I don't know any docs regarding
'mounting a USB Stick on a SunRay and export them to
Windows ')Through SGD, your Windows session would be able to access the USB thumb drive on the Sun Ray device (provided administator allows you to do so.)
    >
    4) Can a printer attached to a SunRay be made
    accessible to published Windows apps?
    Yes, there are several ways.
    a) SGD creates a virtual PDF printer. If you print
from you Windows App to that one, an Acrobat Reader
on the SunRay should open and you can print from that
one on your local attached printer. This is good for
    remote connections.
    b) SGD have a feature of "follow me printing" - this
should do what you expect directly but we never used
    that.
    c) we use CUPS as printing system on the SunRays. On
the Windows you can then configure any CUPS printer
    with the IPP URL
    (http://myprintserver:631/printers/sunray1) of the
CUPS server (CUPS Server can run on Sun Ray Server).
    5) SGD is currently configured to authenticate
against active directory. Will I have to create unix
users for all active directory users?
You mean authenticate your SunRay User ? I don't have
any experience with this configuration. If the user needs to login into Sun Ray first, then you'll need to configure the Sun Ray to authenticate against AD first (which I don't have any experience either.) Once that's done, SGD can authenticate against AD directly.
However, if you configure CAM mode, then you can present just the Windows logon to the user sitting in front of the Sun Ray.

  • Multi-currency Invoice Report in USD and SGD

    Hi
I am Developing Invoice report using XMLPin EBS ,which Must Show Currency in USD and SGD(Singapore Dollar),means at the end of report client want to display USD amount and SGD amount .In oracle report (RAXINV) I am able to get Both currency but In XML report The mapping field for SGD gives 0(zero) value.
    pls provide me inputs
    Thanks
    Rahul

    Hi Tim,
In my XML file I am getting two fields
1)<D_INV_ALL_AMOUNT> with value is in USD e.g. (20000) which I have mapped for USD currency in Template.
2)<D_SGD_PAGE_ADJ_LINE_AMOUNT> This field is for SGD But giving 0(Zero) value. Which I have mapped for SGD.
So I am able to print USD= 20000 and SGD =0 In the Template
But when I run original Oracle report it gives both value, means USD =20000 and SGD=23435 after converting to USD in its text output. (In oracle report layout same above fields are mapped as a source)
I have also created Currency Format Sets. as per user guide and used it in the template but it has no effect
The output of XML report must be like this.
    |USD| 20000|
    |SGD| 23435|
Simply I want to print both currency values in report

I have verified that print jobs are transferred from the Application hosts to the SGD Server. I am able to locate them in /opt/tarantella/var/spool where they stay for awhile then they disappear. If I watch the CUPS console I see the job appear and it shows as completed then it appears again as a held job and then eventually aborts.
it appears that what ever is supposed to be sending the job to the client is either not receiving the job or is failing but I am not sure what and cannot find any errors that point to a problem.

  • Printing, Display, ICA and keyboard issuers

    Hello
I'm facing several issues with a new SGD 4 installation on a SuSe
    Enterprise Server 9.
    - Printing : some jobs get "stuck" and are not printed. If I try to print
another document, tarantella tells me it's ready to print (while it's not
actually). To have my documents printed, I have to log off and log on
again, and printing of the docs start automatically. It happens with any
of our printers. Printing configuration is the default one.
    - Display : When connecting to a Windows desktop, display sometimes become
"distored", some parts of the scrren are not where there are supposed to
be and they are "leaned". I made some modifications in the Adaptive
Internet Protocol but with no success.
    - Another problems occurs with Windows Desktop : I can't get the right
"Alt" key correctly. For instance, with a french keyboard layout, to type
"\", we must type the right "Alt" key (AltGr) and the number "8" (just
above the letters "U" and "I"). To get this working we have to type both
the left AND right "Alt" keys at the same time. Language and keyboard
layout is set up correcly within Windows.
    - I can't connect to a Windows desktop using the ICA protocol. I get this
    error :
    ErrTransportNotAvailable
    bind(7,*:1022): (13) Permission denied
Citrix is of course installed on the windows server.
    Thanks a lot

I have found a workaround in this bug report.
    Make a script in /usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep/keyboard.sh
    #!/bin/sh
    case $1/$2 in
    post/*)
    echo -n rescan > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/drvctl
    esac
Do not forget to make it executable:
    chmod a+x /usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep/keyboard.sh

  • PDF printing: user A clicks "print" and it prints to user B's computer!

I had a user call me up very distressed b/c she had tried to print a database report (using PDF to file, the only printer we have allowed) and turned out that it printed on another user's local computer instead of hers! Confidential information was shared unwillingly and she was very upset.
I looked further and it looks like in a shared account (multiple users logged into Win2003 w/ same username and password) when a user goes to print she can see a printer for each active session. We have "make pdf to file printer default in win2000/20003" checked.
What is going on? When a user goes to print from an application on our win2003 application server, she should only see ONE printer, not a printer for every active session. This seems like a horrible breach of security, trust, etc.
Hope I'm doing something wrong here.
We cannot create a new windows profile for each new user so we need to get this working in an environment where most of our accounts are shared.
    Thank you

OK, have done some testing and speaking w/ Microsoft people. If I understand correctly, here is what's happening:
When user A logs in, SGD autocreates a PDF printer for her with title "...session 1" and modifies the registry HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVerion\Windows\Device to make this newly created printer as the default printer.
If she prints, it goes to her local computer.
Then when user B logs in SGD does the same thing - it autocreates a printer and modifies the registry to set the default printer. Only now the default printer is "...session 2. Since SGD modifies the same registry key, user A's default printer is now "...session 2" as well so if user A prints to the default printer, the job will end up on user B's local computer because user B's session is session 2.
Sun - since SGD handles session management, can't it tell which RDP session a print job is coming from and direct it to the correct client?
