Printing pdf hangs

When I try to create a pdf by justing printing using the adobe printer driver, it hangs.

Hello samc32782856,
Please let me know what version of Acrobat are you using.
What type of document are you trying to convert to PDF using Adobe PDF printer?
Does this happen with some particular document or every file you try to convert to PDF?
Please let me know more.

  • Discoverer Viewer printing PDF hangs

    Hi all,
I have installed Oracle BI Discoverer 10.1.2.48.18. It works fine exept that it is not closing discoverer processes. As number of processes raises the amount of free memory lowers. When about 10% free memory on the server the Discoverer Viewer stops creating PDF printouts.
I open Disco session, open sheet it displays OK. I can export to csv, xls and other formats except PDF. I also can not print PDF. If I click on Page for Print I can set PDF printing options. Then click on Preview or Print and got the Printing PDF - Wait screen. It lasts and lasts...
Tried opmnctl restartproc ias-component=Discoverer, Discoverer processes disappears, still can not print PDF.
After coplete restart AS (opmnctl stopall, startall) the function recovers.
Seems to be tied with memory usage.
I can restart the AS say 1 a week, but rather use other way to keep the Discoverer printing.
    Any suggestions, please.

    Hi Jiri
Your CPU and memory looks ok for the Discoverer usage you have described. I'd watch BPEL though and make sure that isn't grabbing too much resource. If anything, memory would be the one to increase. As I mentioned in a previous posting, a 4:1 ratio for smaller boxes is recommended. Your ration is 2:1, although for only 5 users you should be fine.
I'm assuming you are using Discoverer in stand-alone mode? If not, and you have the infrastructure database on the same machine you are definitely underpowered.
Regarding the memory, the server is supposed to clear the sessions eventually. One way that you can definitely help is to tell your users NOT to close the browser or click the little X at the top right-hand corner of the screen. This may well close the session on the client end but the server is still holding the session for them.
Here is what I always do:
    1. When changing from workbook to workbook I always click File | Close to get rid of the current workbook completely
    2. When exiting Discoverer I always use File | Exit, after using File | Close.
I seem to get far fewer issues this way. It's therefore a training issue and is something that you can do right now. Hopefully this issue will be cleared in the future.
    Best wishes
    Michael

  • Firefox crashes (hangs) while printing pdf (or xps)

Firefox crashes/hangs whenever I try to print pdf using Adobe Acrobat V9.5. I updated Acrobat to XI but the problem didn't go away. It crashes the same way when I try to print to xps as well.
I have to force close the browser and I see Acrobat (or XPS) conversion dialog stuck somewhere at middle afterwards.
I don't have problem printing to pdf from other applications including other browsers (Chrome and IE9). Uninstall/reinstall (complete removal including profile), reset, disabling all addons and extensions, none of these worked. Although the problem goes away when I use Firefox in safe mode. What could be the problem here? I tried disabling all addons and extensions without luck.
I saw similar problem in another thread (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/994052?esab=a&as=aaq) which says it got solved after updating to V29. But I have this problem at office where I use ESR release channel currently at V24.6.
Can anyone confirm that this is a Firefox bug and has been fixed in V29? If so I can wait until next month when ESR channel jumps to V31.
    PS: I use Windows 7.
Thanks in advance for any suggestion or help.
    Peace

Try toggling the status of hardware acceleration under Options → Advanced → General, then restart Firefox.

If there's no problem in Safe Mode, that suggests an issue with an add-on, a preference or a file in the profile, or hardware acceleration. Since you've already ruled out the other two, hardware acceleration is all that's left to try.

For me, Firefox will simply not print to XPS, though Internet Explorer doesn't have any trouble. Others have reported hanging when text is pasted into the "Save As" dialog. I haven't seen any reports of crashes, though that may be specific to the older version of Firefox you're using.
''Feel free to vote for the report to keep track of any progress, but please don't post comments unless you have technical information to add. See [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/page.cgi?id=etiquette.html the Bugzilla etiquette page] for details.''

As for printing to PDF, I can't turn up any confirmed bug reports.

  • Can't print PDF's unless they are saved first

I have two users running Windows 7 Pro that are both having this problem.  When they print PDF's (stored locally on a file server of ours and/or from a website that a vendor provides us access to) nothing happens.  Last week I upgraded them both to Reader X and that worked along with saving a copy of the PDF locally first.  Today same problem.
When the user prints typically the processing window comes up then the document it sent to the Windows spool, but neither is happening.  Nobody else is having that issue and we all are using the same printer drivers on Windows 7 machines.  I thought about uninstalling the local printers and rebooting but have not done that yet.  Also no other applications are having problems printing and each time Windows is able to print test prints.
    Any help would be apprechiated.
    Thank you!

What App(s) are you using to print the pdfs?  What happens when you try, is there an error message?
If you double-click the Home button, a row of recent Apps will line up along the bottom of the screen.  Scroll across and see if the Print Queue is there.  Check to see if it happens to have a print job hanging it up.
Note that the Windows computers do not use AirPrint.  They use printer's native language.

  • HP Laserjet P2055dn won't print pdf files

I have just hooked up a new iMac with Mac OS 10.9.5 and now my reliable HP Laserjet P2055dn won't print .pdf files anymore--it just hangs for hours. I am an academic and work 50% with pdf's.  I tried to download a new driver from the HP site for all MAC OS systems 10.7 and up, but the message when the download was finished opened up in a little box that reads: "ljp2055_Firmware_Upd Image not recognised."
I've unplugged, plugged back in, turned off, turned back on countless times. Don't know what else to try?
    Thank you.

Hi john, I did some looking around and maybe try this page for some tips, sometimes the microsoft forums help me out dearly.

  • HP LaserJet Pro 200 m251 won't print PDF

I have an HP Laserjet Pro 200 that will not print PDFs.  The documents get stuck in the print queue and I have to delete them and restart the printer.  I have reinstalled the driver and updates and reinstalled Adobe Reader and updates.  Called HP and they told me to contact ADobe, but I can't find a number.

I posted this on another discussion.  But here it is again.
One of the things I have experienced in the past with printing PDFs is that it would hang in the print queue. There is a manual method of deleting the print documents in the print queue. But the issue is printing PDF documents that are scanned in and has maybe highlighted text or handwritten notes on the PDF. The printer driver can render it correctly if printing the PDF as a text document. What you have to do is change it so that it prints as a PDF image instead.
To print as an image, open the PDF then click File then click Print. Click the Advanced button on the following window that pops up and select the check box "Print as image".
Now to clear your print queue will be key prior to doing this if the print job is hung in the print queue.
Here is a Microsoft KB Article that explains how to do this. I think it has an available Microsoft Fixit tool you can use as well.

  • Trouble Printing PDF's scanned with Image Capture

OK this is a strange problem.  I have Macbook Pro and a Lexmark E230 laser printer which prints everything out just fine in safari, word, pages, numbers - anything except PDF's that are specifially scanned with the Image Capture application.
I printed four PDF's that were made from different sources, some just assembled JPEGs, one that was text printed from Pages, and another instruction manual randomly downloaded from the internet.  All printed fine.
My wife and I scan a lot for our home business and any PDF that we have scanned using Image Capture prints only the first page, then hangs, and then the rest of the document does not print.  If I try to print the second or other pages manually, I get an error printed on the page saying :
    ERROR: limitcheck
    OFFENDING COMMAND: image
    STACK:
    And the image partially prints.
I am aware of all driver issues, have tried using old drivers, completely reset the print system using the OPTION and ( - ) key in the printer system prefs.  I have also used the most up to date drivers, nothing seems to change this.  I am also aware of a printers limitations as far as using images or PDFs with a lot of memory.
The thing that makes me confused is that this all seemed to work perfectly before (in Lion) and even during the inital stages of Mountain Lion.  At some point (this is on my wife's computer), I'm not sure when the issues started exactly, I was unable to print PDFs scanned with Image Capture properly.
This used to work, now it doesn't.  Printer hasn't changed, types of documents haven't changed.  Any ideas?
    Thanks so much,
    Jim

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, bubblebanium!
I have experienced your problem on several occasions and found the culprit to be a corrupt font. Try selecting everything in the document and changing it to a font that you are certain prints. If the problem persists, try copying everything and paste it into a new document. If your document is several pages, try printing one page to hone in on the problem.
If the problem still persists, does your document have bullet items? If yes, and the bulleted items were created with the automatic bullet feature, then the problem may be the default font used for that feature (most likely the Symbol font).
To change to a different font, go to the Format menu, select Bullets and Numbering. Click on the style of bullets your document uses and then click the Customize button. In the next window, click on the shape of bullet your document uses and then click the Font button below. A Font window appears in which you can then select a different font. Afterwards, if the document prints, then the default font is probably corrupt and you may want to replace it with a good copy.
    Hope this helps.

  • HELP! Why can't I print PDFs from my applications?

For over a year I've used Adobe Pro to "print" PDFs from AutoCAD LT (a drafting program). This allows me to perform design/drafting services for long distance clients and email them PDF "prints" of drawings for them to review, print, and use. It has worked beautifully...until this week. Now whenever I go to print a PDF from AutoCAD (or even other Windows applicacations like Word) it gives me an error telling me to change the Advanced printer preferences to "print directly to printer". When I go into the Adobe printer preferences and select this option. and return to print the PDF, selecting the print command causes AutoCAD to hang indefinitely and eventually crash when I try to cancel the print command. This behavor is the same inside other Windows applications like Word. So I've concluded that the issue is inside Adobe or my computer's Adobe "printer" settings. I've spent 5-6 hours unistalling a reinstalling Adobe several times in hopes to get back to whatever settings that worked before...to no success.
The last piece to the puzzles is that I was on vacation last week. Instead of the desktop computer in my office that I typically use, I took my old laptop. I only have one license of Adobe Pro. Even though I hadn't used it for months on the laptop, it worked fine creating PDFs from AutoCAD. My question is: did using Adobe on my laptop deactivate the Adobe loaded on my desktop? And if so, why hasn't deactivating and uninstalling the Adobe Pro on my laptop, and unistalling/reinstalling/activating the Adobe Pro on my desktop, fixed the problem?
I'm at my wits' end...any feedback/advice would be much appreciated!

In WORD (Sorry I don't have Autocad), can you go to the FILE>Print and print to the Adobe PDF printer with no problem? If not, can you select print-to-file and then open the file in Distiller to complete the conversion? If the latter works, it sounds like you may have disabled AcroTray, a necessary part of the printing process.

  • Acrobat intermittently fails to print PDF from itself!

This has happened multiple times today.  When printing a single page PDF from a multiple page Acrobat document the program has been hanging when it needs to ask for a file name.  Failure is intermettent and cannot be duplicated by happens often and requires a computer re-boot to fix.

And if you are just using it to make a 1-page PDF...don't do it that way! Use Extract Pages or other techniques. Printing PDF to PDF is not recommended.

  • I am having issues printing PDF documents on my HP CM1312nfi

Whenever I print a PDF that I have created by scanning from my CM1312nfi it has difficulty printing it.  It will print one page then read ERROR in the printer set up on the computer and 90 seconds later it will then print the next page and do the same thing.  So if I have a large PDF it can take hours to print 1 copy.
I do make sure to use the print production features is Acrobat as well as reduce the file sizes dramatically but this doesn't seem to help the situation.  Anyone have any thoughts??

  • How can I save to the same map every time when printing pdfs?

How can I save to the same map every time when printing pdfs?
Finder points to the document map even when I chose a different map recently.
I often print series of pdfs from the print dialog box, I'd like to choose the map to save to and then have all subsequent pdf prints automatically directed to the same map until I decide otherwise.

that link seems to be broken right now:

  • Printing PDF forms to an impact printer

    Greetings,
I hope I've found the correct forum for this question.
We are having difficulty printing PDF forms to an impact printer.  We are required by regulations to print to multi-part forms from our GTS landscape, which is going live soon.  Since Adobe is the direction SAP is headed with forms, we have been utilizing ADS.  However, the need for impact printing has presented a problem.  Has anyone utilized PDF printing to an impact printer?  I'll list some details in case it will help.
    Printer: Lexmark Forms Printer 2590
Backend Print Solution: HP Output Server on AIX
    SAP GTS: NetWeaver 7.0 SP17 w/ SLL-LEG 720 SP7
Our printer has printer languages of Epson Emulation and Personal Printer Data Stream (PPDS).  Neither of these are included in the standard device types for PDF as specified in OSS Note 685571.  I do not see an appropriate XDC file to copy and modify.
Has anyone else run into this issue and found a resolution?
    Many thanks for your assistance.
    Wesley Tollett

the PortName should be changed accordingly.
if you are using printer port , commonly lpt1, you should change it to lpt1
ur command line could work , i think
i've tried it locally in my machine, it works fine.
