Printing to Kingston KNP103X print server

Hi,
I have a Kingston KNP103X print server with a Brother HL-5240 connected to it. The print server supports Apple Talk. I previously was able to print from Tiger without problems. Now I have Leopard, and I cannot print anymore. In the System Preferences the server is shown in the Standard- and AppleTalk-Tab, and I can install my printer that way.
When I print small files, it sometimes prints as if everything was OK. But when I print a whole page of text the print job nearly always fails. Sometimes a part of the page is printed with the rest blank, or it only prints strange characters on dozens of pages. And everything is very very slow.
Any ideas?

Hi,
I have come across several of your posts in trying to resolve a problem connecting to a printer on a G5 from Windows 2000. This post I could reply to.
First off, I think your documentation is great.
I have read http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3000.html to try and connect from a Windows 2000 box to a Mac G5 running 10.3. I have followed it to a 'T', but I get the message that I can't connect to the printer -- either the name is wrong or the printer is disconnected. Checked each case, and keep hitting the wall.
I have been able to identify the Mac from the Windows box, and connect to a directory, but try as I might, the network printer will not show up in the network neighborhood. Typing in the name (queue_name) has not worked either.
I checked the /etc/smb.conf and printcap files. Should I be manuall inserting the name of the printer into the smb.conf file?
Stumped.
Any ideas? Very frustrating bit this is.
Thanks,
dbrktkt

  • How to issue print command from report/form server to client printer on web

    1) We have a client server application which is to be deployed on the web environment. The reports generated in our application are having a destination type as File. These reports are printed after applying some print format (escape sequences) which are passed on to the printer programmatically at runtime while printing.
Now when this application is shifted on to the Application server (Forms server & Reports Server )in web environment ,the report outputs would be generated in the application server as against the client in client server environment as the report server is on the application server.
Now while printing/accessing the report the output file will not be available to the client unless it is pushed on to the client side from the server . I am able to see reports in pdf/html output but in this case layout of my reports gets changed and I dont want to change my layouts or reformat my report layouts.
How do I redirect the report output from the application server on to the client within the D2k context and then execute print commands?
Note: In this case we want to use both DMT and Laser printing. Also note that we use escape sequences to adjust reports in desired printing papers.
    2) We have second set of reports which we call as document because these are printed after capturing data from 'Form' using text_io utility (please note that for these documents we are not using any Report 6i functionality)and we print it from file using printing mechanism as mentioned above. These are working well in client server application. We adopted this methodology for getting better performance (in terms of speed as database server and network traffic is not involved) of printing. But now we are converting our application for web, we are finding it difficult how to capture Form's data from browser to client's machine and then executing printing commands which are stored in our application liabrary.
If you help me out by giving some suggestions, I shall be grateful to you.

    Hello
I wonder if you ever solved this problem.
I have a very similar problem with Photoshop CS5 on Mac OSX 10.6 + HP Photosmart C7180.
If I choose "Photoshop Manages Colors" the results are lousy.
If I choose "Printer Manages Colors" the results are OK. not necessarily great.
I believe I have all the correct settings after going through books and web advice (and wasted a lot of paper and ink).
As far as I can see, "ColorSync" is the internal Mac management which is the only option available with "Photoshop Manages Colors" and "Vendor Matching" appears to mean the printer vendor (ie HP) will provide the matching. Either can be selected if "Printer Manages Colors" is used. It seems the type of paper can be set in three different places. if That's all a bit academic as the results are poor regardless.
My wife suggests I buy a new printer - Epson's looking good.
Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

  • WIndows 7 64-bit system printing to a Windows 2000 server configured as a print server

Is there any way to configure a new Windows 7 64-bit computer to use a Windows 2000 server configured as a print server ?
The printer that I would like to connect to is an HP 4240n LaserJet. I appears that there is only a 64-bit Universal Print Driver available. The server currently uses HP 32-bit PCL5e or PCL6 drivers for all other connected computers. Connection is through a Hewlett-Packard Network Port, using DLC/LLC transport for the embedded 4240n print server.
Installing  the HP 64-bit UPD to the WIndows 7 64-bit system, and then attempting to redirect the local port to the Win2k network print server has not worked.
    Thanks for any advice.

    Hi:
    See if this works...
    Run msconfig.
In the System Configuration screen, Boot tab, Advanced Options, if there is a check mark in the box next to Maximum memory. Remove that checkmark and save your changes.
Reboot and hopefully Windows recognises all the Ram ( minus the reserved ) after restarting.
Please give that a try, and post back and let us know if that frees up some system memory for you.

  • Printing to a Windows print server on a domain

I work at a computer lab at my school and for a long while I don't think anyone has really researched this topic well enough.
We charge for print jobs based on username; whoever logs in get chraged for the prints they do. For windows machines this works perfectly fine, but for mac computers, if we set them up, they print directly to the printer and completely bypass the server, so for a long while our solution has been not letting the macs print. But now with Macs being more appealing for previous windows users people are getting more and more Macs. So my question is how can I set up a mac to print to our server, which is on a domain, and have it log who prints it by username?
I have searched around already and closest I'v come is on mac os x hints. Using advanced setup using the line smb://username:password@workgroup/computer/printer
    Full instructions on:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20051204134420783
But the problem is that it is for a workgroup not for a domain, which is what we have. So if there is a way we could do this it would really make a ton of people here happy.

It may be meant to work on both a workgroup and domain but when I set it up this way it always gives an error reguarding the fact that it cant find the workgroup that was specified. I can try again and give the exact error I get but I've tried all different ways I could think of.
I'm not sure if this would have any effect on it but the passwords used always have a special character in them like the period or comma and such.
Another thing is Would the software used to manage the printers on the server have any effect on how a mac can communicate with it? Or would the server just take any printjob its given and channel it to the right place?

  • Server created print ques printing directly to the printer

I'm trying to enforce quotas as well as push out a global set of printers (i.e. not setup locally) I can do this no problem, but my managed macs always print directly to the printer, not via my server.
I'm installing the printers locally on my server (printing directly to the I.P of the printer, then the corresponding ques appear automatically in the print service under server admin. I assumed that print jobs would be automatically parsed via the print service ques, and thus be able to enforce quotas.

I'm attempting to setup the very same thing. I haven't gotten to try pushing the print ques to the managed clients via wgm yet, as I can't even seem to get the quota system working at all.
I can get the que setup on the server, then add the printer to the client. When i pause the que on the server, the client print jobs are being held correctly, but there is no evidence that the quota system is even starting up or functioning correctly.
I can find alot of people complaining about the quota system being broken in 10.3 and 10.4, but I can't find anyone talking about 10.5's printer quota system at all.

  • Officejet 6700 error while searching for updates: 'Printer could not connect to server'

I recently purchase the Officejet 6700 Premium. While setting the printer up, I received the error 'The printer could not connect to the server.' I first received this while the printer was searching for updates. I later received the same error while trying to set up ePrint from my computer.
The printer is connected through my wireless router. All other print services function normally. It is connected to the network, and I have printed several times over the wireless network.
Though I don't think it matters, since the on-board print set-up gave me the error, I run Windows 7 64-bit on my computer.
    Thanks for any help!

What is the IP address of the printer?  What is the make and model of the router that you use in the wireless set up? Is the router firmware up to date?
I would first try power cycling the router and the printer. Turn off/unplug the router and then power down the printer. Then plug the router back in and wait for it to be fully up and functioning before turning the printer back on.  After you have both pieces of equipment back on and functioning attempt to connect to web services again.
If still having problems I would attempt to set a static DNS on the printer through the embedded web server (EWS) by entering the printer's IP address into the address bar of  a browser on a computer.
Once that computer displays that page click on the Network tab.
Then look in the column to the left and find the Wireless section
    Click on IPv4
Then on that page look at the 2nd section that is labeled DNS Address configuration
Change the radio button to the manual option
Then for the manual preferred fill it out and make sure it reads 8.8.8.8
Secondary should be set to 8.8.4.4
    Then hit Apply
Read the next screen carefully. That message with the "OK" button below it  is one that states to click that button to undo the changes you  just made.  Just navigate away from that page by clicking on another tab.
Then reattempt to connect to web services.

  • Printing problems using a print server

I am having trouble printing across my local network to some printers. This is a mixed wired and wireless LAN.Lan works fine as the windows machines print with no problems.
Printing takes place using a Trendnet TE 100-P21 Print Server. This box is connected to my network with a CAT6 cable. It has 2 USB and one Parallel port.
The Mac can print to the parallel printer with no problem. Installation was easy and painless. It found the other two printers (the USB ones) just as easily, installed drivers, etc. It even knows when they are idle or not.
_It can print to the HP 6L, which is the only one that has a parallel connection._ (I think that must be important)
_But it can’t print to the other two, both of which have USB connections._
Here are the Queue Names that the Mac reported. (In the below notations, P3 denotes the parallel printer port, U1 the first USB port, and U2 the second USB port on the print server.)
    HP6L (parallel)
    URL: dnssd://PS-700AED-P3._printer.tcp.local.
    *Cannon i9900* (USB)
    URL: dnssd://PS-700AED-U1._printer.tcp.local.
    *HP ColorLaserJet 3500* (USB)
    URL: dnssd://PS-700AED-U2._printer.tcp.local.
Windows machines on the network can print to all three printer with no problem, so we know printers, print server, network and cables work. When hooked up directly to the printer (at least the HP 3500) the Mac can print as well. But not when connected via the print server.
Eventually the job times out and the HP 3500 spits out a page that reads
    PCL XL error
    System: KERNEL
    Error: IllegalTag
    Operator: Vendor Unique
    Position 8
    Any thoughts?

I assure you that changing print server will not fix this issue. You MUST have a CUPS driver to print to a non-postscript, not-intended-for-network printer via the standard comm protocols available in OS X and on nearly all print servers. The Gutenprint drivers included by Apple are CUPS drivers, as opposed to the old Mac-style "monolithic" drivers.
    * It is true that using a postscript driver to print to a postscript printer would work for the TrendNet as well as nearly All other print servers. Postscript is the native output (well, along with "packaged postscript" = PDF) of OS X, so a postscript driver IS A CUPS driver by default.
I hope this helps you avoid the hassle of buying another brand of print server, only to find out out it is the same.

  • Printing via Belkin Wireless Print Server

I am trying to setup my my mac so that it will print via my belkin wireless print server. I have been able to do this for my windows pc's but not with my mac.
Other threads on this forum have been able to get it working with other printers but I can't seem to make it work.
I'm using a HP Deskjet 6540 on a 802.11g network. The printer is connected to a Belkin Wireless Print Server (F1UP0001). I print when connected via USB but not via wireless. I've installed the HP drivers and the GIMP drivers but that hasnt worked. When I go to install the printer I choose IP Printer and give the ip address of the print server.
Any help would be much appreciated, if you need more infomation just ask.
    Thank You,
    mholmau

Your printer is a non-postscript printer and requires a CUPS driver in order to use the network printing protocols which are part of the CUPS system in OS X. Except for Brother, no manufacturer of non-postscript printers is providing CUPS drivers. The printer model doesn't show up because the OS X driver only works for USB. Apple tried to get around this by including open source Gimp-Print (CUPS) drivers with OS X. But very few HPs are supported. You should try HP Deskjet 900 Series, Gimp-Print driver to see if it "might" work.
For PPC Macs, there is another open source driver set that supports most HPs, including yours:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/
But, these aren't Universal binaries, so they don't work on Intel Macs. The source code is available, and I think it will readily compile on your Mac, but I don't have an Intel Mac to try that on.
Next issue - print server setup. We don't have auto-setup software, so we have to read the manual closely and decide which protocol to use. If it's IPP (=internet printing protocol, not IP printing) or LPR/LPD, you need to find the print server's queue name (sometimes called port name), and enter that in Add printer dialog near IP address.
There are other ways to do network printing. The Airport Express print server from Apple allows you to use the USB driver because it uses Airport-Bonjour software to redirect USB output, instead of using standard protocols.
    Hope this helps.

  • Printing a PDF document from a network printer hosted on Windows Print Server

    Hi
We have a use case where a XFA form needs to be merged with the XML file and later be printed on a printer hosted on Windows Print Server.
While I know the first part of merging the template with the data file, I am stuggling to get my document printed.
Here are the options that I have already tried -
    1) Used the generatePrintedOutput to render a flat PDF and convert it into a PS format.
    2) The output of the above service was input to the "sendToPrinter" service with following configuration settings
Input document     : <Document variable referencing to the output of the GeneratePrintedOutput service>
        Printer Protocol     : DirectIP
Server URI            : \\ <IP address of the Print Server>     NOTE: The Print Server is hosted on a different domain & is a Windows Server
Printer Name        : \\ <IP address of the Print Server>\<name of the printer>
Some more information about our LC servers -
    OS -> Unix
    Application Server -> JBoss
When I used these settings and invoked the process, I got the following exception -
2011-03-07 11:13:39,047 ERROR [com.adobe.livecycle.output.exception.OutputException] ALC-OUT-001-403: Could not connect to the DirectIP Server: \\<IP Address of the Printer Server>.

Therefore I tried to check if I am able to Ping the Printer Server from my Livecycle Server and found that the ping was successful.
Next - I changed the Printer Protocol from DirectIP to SharedPrinter keeping the rest of the settings same. In this case - when I invoke the process, it did not throw any error , but it did not print any document as well.
Any suggestion where I have gone wrong? Pls let me know if you would need more information to help me resolve this issue.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Priyank

    Well I found the answer......
I had to do the two steps below -
    1) Go to Admin UI, "Trust Store Management -> User & Password Credentials" and add a profile for my Printer server with login ID and password which can access the printer.
So in the "User & Password Crendentails" page, I click on "add" and fill the following values
Profile : \\ <IP address of the print server> ....... (It is important that you write the name correctly..for example " \\10.10.234.212"
USername : <user id who has access to the printer>
    Password  : <password for that user Id>
    2) In the sendToPrinter service, I used CIFS as the protocol and I have the proper Server URI as below
      \\10.10.234.212\<printername>
    And it worked ! .....

  • Printing Thru D-Link Print Server?

I have PC/Mac environment, and am having trouble with printing from my Mac. Both Macs are running latest OS X Leopard. Setup is:
    Epson Stylus Photo R280
    Canon Pixma IP90
    D-Link DPR1260 Print Server
    MacBook Air
    New MacBook Pro 2.5
If I use the supplied Epson Driver, I cannot communicate with the printer
If I use the Mac supplied driver for the R260 model (same driver according to Epson), I cannot communicate with printer.
If I use the Mac supplied R260 Gutenprint v5.1.3, I can communicate and print a test page. But, the printer will not accurately reproduce photos. The photos come out with visible lines. How do I configure the Mac's to use the correct drivers.
Of course the PC's can print a photo with out issues. I am kinda new to Mac, but
have been working on PC's for quite a while.

The standard Epson drivers will not work when printing to a network printer. They will only work when the printer is directly connected to the Mac via USB.
You will need to use the Gutenprint drivers. There is a problem with OS X 10.5.x and the Gutenprint drivers that came with OS X 10.5.x. The printer driver defaults to Draft quality unless you select the resolution manually. This problem is fixed in later versions of Gutenprint. I would suggest that you download and install the latest version of the Gutenprint drivers v5.17 from _http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3_. The v5.0.2 drivers will also work fine.

  • Label Printing issues on Crystal Reports Server

I built a label that prints off beautifully on my local machine with Crystal XI installed. However, when I post the label to the reports server, and a user tries to print it off, it prints off two blank labels behind each good label. I have racked my brain on this for days. The printer settings are identical to my local machine. Any idea what might be causing this?

I think the following information might help you
    Symptom
A label report was viewed over the web using the Web Component Server, and printed on a label maker printer DYMO 330. The labels were being resized to 8 1/2 x 11 instead of printing the size of the label. Even after selecting the correct size, the labels print one per page, followed by 3 blank labels.
When printing was done through a distributed report or the report designer, the labels printed to the correct size and only printed one label with no blank labels.
What is causing the label report to print incorrectly when printed from the web viewer?
    Resolution
    Steps to Resolve
    1. Open the report in the Crystal Reports 8 designer on the web server.
    2. Click on 'File' then click 'Printer Setup'. If a printer is already selected then set it to 'No Printer', click 'OK', then save the report.
    3. Click on 'File' then click 'Printer Setup' again. Select the default printer and clear the 'Default Properties' checkbox.
    4. Click 'OK' and save the report.
    5. Click on Start > Settings > Control Panel > Services and double click 'Seagate Page Server' service. Set this service to run under an 'Administrator' account.
    6. Stop and restart the service, and close down all browsers.
The label reports now will print successfully over the web.
    Background
Incorrect printing from a web viewer can have several causes, including:
    · The report is designed with a designated printer, but the encapsulated page format (EPF) files are being created in 'No Printer' mode.
    · The server does not have access to the printer.
    · A valid printer is not saved with the report on the server.
    · The printer driver is not installed on the server.

  • Printing to Belkin Wireless Print Server

I currently have a wireless network set up in which 3 computers wirelessly print to an HP PSC 750 through a belkin print server. I now have a MacBook pro and want to be able to print to the same printer. Can anyone tell me how to do this please?

For driver, you'll need to use a third-party CUPS driver, like the Gimp-Print drivers included in OS X. If the 750 isn't in that, update to the new version of Gimp-Print, now called Gutenprint:
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3
To setup for the print server, you can get the print server's IP address and queue name from a PC that's setup (go to printer properties > ports tab and click configure port to see the details).
Read the print server docs carefully to figure out which protocol(s) is supported. The IPP and LPD protocols both require a device-specific queue name (also called port name), which should be in the manual. Common queue names are L1, lp, P1 etc. HP Jetdirect doesn't use queue name. HP Jetdirect equals raw port 9100 printing in PC-oriented manuals.

  • HP 8500 Printer and Connection to eprint server

Refurbished Printer: HP Officejet Pro 8500 Premium A910 n (Changes status from new to refurbished 02-17-2011)
    ISP: ATT DSL
Modem/Router: 2wire new from Best Buy. It is white with ATT logo on it. Is using latest firmware.
    Network: ethernet
The printer downloaded and installed a firmware update after initialization. So it is connected to the internet.
It then tried to register to the eprint server and said it cannot connect to eprint server.
The printer functions normally in every way except it will not register to eprint server.
Numerous calls and hours with HP Support rebooting, resetting and everything else under the sun have done nothing.
I tried setting IP and DSN addresses per all the suggestions in these forums and nothing works.
Could there be an issue with the HP Sever? Does it really exist? Are there compatibility issues with 2wire router.
ATT did remote session on my computer and could find nothing they could do. They were able to plot a test page remotely.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    NEW INFORMATION (02-11-2011):
I noticed today while looking at the EWS that the printer SSID is not the same as the router, but it was grayed out. Does this matter for ethernet? If so how do I change it? I do not think this matters for ethernet.
    NEW INFORMATION (02-12-2011):
The support team at 2wire have given me procedure to completely open all in and out traffice to the printer. They said if this does not work then the problem is with the eprint server. I will try this on Monday, but I expect there is a communication problem between the printer and the eprint server that has nothing to with anything at my location or my ISP. Is there any way to check the server this printer is trying to connect to? Where is it? Is it operational? If not, is it rerouting properly to an operational server? The printer must be trying to access a particlar IP address or DNS to establish communication.
    NEW INFORMATION (02-14-2011):
Per the instructions from 2wire support team I opened all ports and allowed all services then turned the printer off and on. It did not work. The printer will not connect to the HP eprint server. So the problem is with the HP eprint server. This printer is programmed to look somewhere for a server to connect to. Where is it? Is it operational? Why will not allow a connection? HP the ball is in your court. What can we do?
I have ATT DSL at work and Charter Cable service at home. The problem is the same for both locations and ISP's. Is there anyone out there has connected that has ATT DSL or Charter Cable? If so what are your settings?
    NEW COMMENT (02-15-2011)
Can anyone at HP tell me why the printer will connect to the HP Server and download the firmware update, but will not connect to the HP Server to register to eprint? It all seems to be on HP's side. When will we get a fix?
    NEW COMMENT (02-16-2011)
The model number is blank in the engineering menu and the printer diagnositc page. If this is an issue can it be added with a firmware update? Do I need to get money back for this one and buy a fully configure one in a local store? Maybe the blank model number is throwing all the other information out of place that is being sent to the server. Can the server be updated to accept blank model numbers?
POSSIBLE SOURCE OF PROBLEM - SOLUTION PENDING (02-16-2011)
I JUST LOOKED ON THE BACK OF MY PRINTER. IT HAS A REMANUFACTURED STICKER ON IT.
It appears that the missing model number on the remanufacturered units is the reason why it will not connect to the eprint server. Print out the printer diagnostic page and see if the model number is blank.
HP is working on a fix.
    SOLUTION- (02-22-2011)
I UPGRADED MY ORDER FROM REFURBISHED TO NEW REPLACEMENT. THE NEW REPLACEMENT CONNECTED THE FIRST TIME TO EMPRINT SERVER - NO PROBLEMS. I HAD TO PAY FOR A NEW ONE AND THEY WILL CREDIT MY CARD WHEN THEY GET THE REFURBISHED ONE BACK.
LESSON LEARNED - IF YOU HAVE PRINTER WITH BLANK MODEL NUMBER YOU WILL NOT ABLE TO CONNECT TO EPRINT NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO!
    Thanks if anyone can help.
    This question was solved.

Try setting a fixed IP/DNS…hopefully you haven’t tried that yet.  (The problem is most likely w/how therouter and the printer are communicating…setting the fixed IP/Manua DNS should fix it. )          If previous steps didn’t help, you may need to set a fixed IP address/DNS Server on your printer.
Setting a fixed IP address/DNS Server for your printer may resolve web services connectivity issues that can occur on some networks with some routers.  Note:  This may be particularly helpful with networks using DSL/VIOS routers.
Please read the entire set of instructions through completely before trying them.  You should not attempt these on your own if you don't understand networking basics.  Most of us have a "techie" buddy/friend/family member...if you're not comfortable this might be a good time to call him/her, or contact HP support.
Before you begin, we recommend you first remove Web Services from your printer.  (See the previous section for where to find this on your printer.)   Removing web services will remove your printer from your HPePrintCenter.com account (if you have previously set up an account and added it).  When you re-enable web services after completing these steps you will have a new ePrint email address and need to add your printer to your ePC account again.
Setting a manual IP address/DNS Server on your web-connected printer:
Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer front panel.  On some printers this will be under Wireless>Wireless Settings, and on other models use the “Print Report” option from the Wireless status screen accessed from the wireless icon on the printer home screen.   Note the printer's IP address that is listed in the IPv4 section of the report.  On most printers you can also see the printer’s IP address from the Wireless menu, or on the Wireless status screen.
Type that IP address into your browser address bar (where you would normally type a web page URL) and hit enter - this will load the printer's internal settings page (also known as an Embedded Web Server, or EWS)
Select the “Network” or “Networking” tab (the label varies depending on printer model) from the tabs along the top of the screen in the EWS
Depending on your printer model, the next step(s) will vary:
Select the “IPv4” option from along the left side of the Networking screen
    or
Select the “Networking” option from the left side of the screen
Then select the “Network Address (IP)” option from the left side of the screen
The screen you end up on should be the “IP Address Configuration” screen.  That screen allows you to choose an Automatic or Manual (i.e., fixed) IP address for your printer, as well as Subnet Mask and Default Gateway values.   You will use this screen to set a Manual IP address for your printer.
    To continue:
Select the radio button next to “Manual IP”
Select the “Suggest a Manual IP Address” option below the IP address fields.  The Manual IP address fields will automatically populate with suggested values.
Select the “Manual DNS Server” radio button in the DNS Address Configuration section
Enter the address just entered in the “Manual Default Gateway” into the “Manual Preferred DNS Server” field.  Leave the “Manual Alternate DNS Server” entry blank.
Carefully double-check the values you entered to make sure they are all correct.
    Click 'Apply'
Save any open documents and close any web browsers on any computers
Turn off the printer and unplug the router.
Plug in the router, wait for it to start up and for status lights to settle down (approximately a minute at least), then turn on the printer.
If you removed web services from your printer before starting this process, after the printer has connected to your network, re-enable web services on your device and add your printer to your account on HPePrintCenter.
If you did not remove web services before setting a manual IP address and are still having connection issues, remove and re-add web services.
In some cases you might need to add the printer to your computer’s Printer/My Printers folder again, after you set the new fixed IP address.   If you have problems printing to your printer, simply use the option to add a printer, select the Networked printer type, and complete the add printer wizard.  You will not need to reinstall any printer software on your computer.

  • Windows 8 and IE 10 crashed after printing from Report Manager SQL server 2008 / 2008 R2

We have a problem with Windows 8 in combination with IE 10 and printing reports.
When we print a report from the Report Manager 'http://<servername>/reports' the browser crashed after a print.
Sometimes before printing and somthimes after printing or when you close the browser.
Al other operating systems like XP, Vista, Windows 7 with different IE versions have no problem.
I tried the report manager from SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2.
The same error occured when printing from our Internet application and the reportviewer.
(ASP application written in Visual Studio 2010 and reportviewer version 10.)
The event log shows two different messages.

Is there a fix for this problem?

    Dear Mike Yin,
Thank you for your response. Your answer was the
reason for finding the real problem.
In december 2010 a SQL Server 2008 fix was the cause. I don't remember exactly the problem, but we changed the RSCLIENTPrint-x86.cab file. But instead to use the version of SQL Server 2008 we used the version of SQL Server 2008
    R2 (10.50.1600.1). This worked until
Windows 8 (Internet Explorer crashed when printing).
We fixed this problem by using the RSClientPrint-x86.cab file from SQL server 2008 (10.0.5500.0).
But we now get the known problem that the
activeX always must be installed again.
The reason for this is that the version of
    the SQL Server (10.0.5512.0)
and the rsclientprint.dll (10.0.5500.0) is different. SQL Server is newer (caused
    by a security patch (KB2716436)).
Do you know when this problem will be resolved
    by Microsoft?
    Work arrounds
I've also tried to install the RSClientprint.dll
every time automatically (without user interaction).
But this will be delayed the printing for more
    than 4 seconds. This
    is very annoying.
Another workaround is to generate a PDF and print the PDF. But this is also
    a lot slower.
Uninstall the security patch. but I don't know the security risk.
