Printing via Aperture

First, here is my configuration:
Aperture 2.1.4
Printer: Canon Pixma Pro9500 Mark II
Using Canon and Red River Paper
24" iMac running OSX 10.6.2
Although I have been using Aperture since version 2.0 was released, it has only been recently that I have purchased a photo printer. Until now, I have been sending my pictures out to online stores to have them developed.
Since purchasing the printer I have been printing pictures to understand how it works. I have been using Canon papers, and recently I tried Red River Papers. With the Canon papers under "Colorsync profiles" I have been selecting the "System managed" option. Red River recommends I use the profiles they have developed specifically for their paper/my printer combo (they are icc files). If I do this, I get very, very red pigmented skin tones (a stranger looking at the pictures might think the person is suffering from 3rd degree burns). I am told by Red River, as well as Printer forums, and Mac photography forums that I am double profiling the pictures. Yet I have looked everywhere in the settings for my printer within Aperture (and the printer supplied software) and other than using the System Managed Option under Colorsync, I don't see where I am double profiling or how to change it.
Even though folks have been telling me I am double profiling, nobody has been able to show or indicate how to change it.
Admittedly, if I leave the Color Sync Profile setting as "System Managed" using the Canon and Red River papers, the pictures come out pretty good as long as I use glossy. If I use matte, the pictures still come out a bit red.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for your response. I have updated my sig, but at the moment I am using SL 10.6.2. I apologize for the confusion it might have caused.
Nonetheless, I went ahead and tried to follow your instructions. I attempted to access the printer's settings by going to system preferences/printer. I looked at all my options there and did not find any setting allowing me to turn off color management.
As an aside, I opened PSE 8.0 and looked at the printer settings there. In the program there is a location where I can select color management. I have three options. They are PSE makes the decisions, Printer makes the decision, or no management. Only selecting PSE gives me access to use a separate profile (BTW, none of the Canon or Red River profiles show up here, as they would in Aperture. Might be the subject for a different thread.), but even then, the list of available profiles does not show the profiles for Canon papers or Red River papers. I am digressing...
So, if I go back to Aperture and look at printer settings there is a choice for "Color Options". Within this choice you can manage some of the colors in terms of their intensity. You can also adjust brightness and contrast, but you can't turn off color management. BTW, the "Color Options" is grayed out unless you select "System Management" in another window.
Again thanks for your response.

  • Upsizing Images For Print Via Aperture

    Hello
What is Aperture like for upsizing an image for printing greater than 16x11"? I need to output an image for print 36x24". Has anyone done this and if so, what were the results like? Should it be done using other third party software(Photoshop)?
The image is full resolution from a 12MP camera.
    Thanks

I print pretty big images (up to 60 inches by 36 inches - > 1gb) and I use Photozoom to upsize and then print in PS.
    My workflow is:-
    1. Import and basic wok in Ap
    2. Specialist work in PS - save back to Ap
    3. Export as TIF and upsize in Photozoom
    4. Save big image outside Ap (smaller, origimal image - my negative - is still in Ap)
    5. Open big image in PS - reduxe noise, sharpen etc amd print
    6. Save back to HD or delete - I always have 'negative' in Ap
    Hope it helps....

  • Errors ordering prints from Aperture, help?

I've been trying since last night to order prints via Aperture.  They total around 150 prints.  Last night, I would select my images and they would start to upload.  The entire time, Aperture is listed as "application not responding" but the continued to upload.  When finished, I got a message that the order was complete and then got a billing error message.  I tried again and re-entered my card info, same issue.  My billing works fine for the app store (it did before and after the order attempts), it's not a billing issue.
Today, I just entered a different card to see what happens.  Everything uploads and it tells me my order is complete.  However, I never recieved a receipt and there is no record of my order on the order status page.  When I tried to close A3, I get the message "You book is not complete...." so I select to continue uploading...even though the upload is complete. It's being going now like that for 3 hours.  This is crazy.  I just cancelled the order by closing out A3 now for the 8th time in 2 days...each upload takes about 20-30 minutes to complete.  Odd, my connections speeds are currently 22mbps download, 7 upload...a little slower than usual, so the hold up is on Apple's side.
Has anyone had this issue before? Is there a fix for this?  I'm going nuts.  Thanks for any help!

I called Apple Store support.  They were stumped too as I had tried everything they recommended, including chaning billing card that I use, etc.  Then they found a support document about print ordering issues and getting a white screen (which I don't get), this appears to have solved my issue.
Here is what I did. I did have to do BOTH steps.  Please note that "1-Click Settings" is no longer available, so used "Express Checkout" for those steps instead and it was fine.  I was able to put through a test order successfully and then cancel it.  My large order is now uploading.
    Delete the NetServices Keychain item:
Quit Aperture if it is open.
In the Finder, choose Go > Utilities.
Double-click the Keychain Access application in the Utilities folder.
Click Passwords in the Category list on the left side of the window.
Click the NetServices item in the main window and press the delete key to remove it.
    Open Aperture and test.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue:
    Quit Aperture.
Go to the Apple Online Store.
From the Account menu to the left of the Cart icon, choose "1-Click Settings."
Log in to your account with your Apple ID and password.
    Enable 1-Click for your account.
If 1-Click is already enabled, choose Account Information from the Accounts dropdown.
Change the password for your account.
    Open Aperture and test.

  • Prints from Aperture vs Photoshop Different

When I make a print from Aperture the color is off and the print is too light. When I take that same photo and Open With External Editor to Photoshop, the print comes out nearly perfect, and nearly exactly what I see on my 30" ACD.
When printing I turn off System Management of color, so I don't think that's the issue.
I shoot Raw with a Nikon D2x. I calibrated my Epson 4800 and 30" display with Eye-One. The profile of the photo is Adobe RGB 1998. When soft proofing in Aperture I use the printer profile I created with Eye-One and the image looks fine on my display.
I've read various threads where people have solved this problem by making sure they use Adobe RGB 1998 across the board, which I think I am doing.
One huge concern is that I'm ready to have a wedding book published via Apple and I don't know if the images are going to look like they do printed via Aperture, or Photoshop, or something altogether different.
    Greg
Mac Book Pro 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   30" ACD, Epson 4800 printer, Dimage Scan Elite 5400II

    David,
Thank you for enlightening me about the Nikon/color space.
What is frustrating is that I've calibrated my Epson 4800 and 30" ACD. In Aperture the color and exposure looks fine when soft proofing, but my prints come out with a magenta tinge and are too light. When printing the very same file in Photoshop (via Round Trip from Aperture), the image looks the same on my monitor as it did in Aperture but the print comes out very close to what I see on the screen. There has to be something else going on. I turn off the System Management of color, what other settings do you set? However, I set the printing settings the same for Aperture as for Photoshop.
Since you have much of the same set-up as I do, I'd like to turn to another question. I'm trying to order a wedding book via Apple. When I click the "Buy Now" button, all the following dialog boxes have a combination of French, English, Dutch? - and when I reach the final dialog box I see in English, "Please correct the following issues". The item on the list that I should correct is in Dutch or Swedish. Has this ever happened to you and how can I fix the language issue. I searched the threads and see people with the same problem, but no remedy.
Another question if I may... When I click "Buy Now" the first dialog box says that there is a blank text box (which I suspect is the issue that the Dutch sentence is proclaiming). I've tried finding the blank text box by Select All, but only the photo fields are highlighted. Do you know how to find a blank text box?
Thank you for your suggestions. I've asked about the foreign language and text box issues but haven't received an answer yet.

  • Problems printing photographs via Aperture, using Canon MP640

When printing photographs via Aperture, using my CanonMP640, I am instructed to turn off my color management, but I don’t know how to do this & Canon can’t help me. The color quality is very poor (whites have a blue tinge and reds come out orange)
Can anyone help or suggest a good quality printer that is compatible with Aperture, and allows me to turn off Color management on the printer.

I have an Epson R320 and all the Epson's printer driver options are available to me in Aperture. My list is slightly different: Print Settings, Color Management, Page Layout Settings, and Extension Settings with the words separated by spaces and each has a capitalized first letter.
I'm wondering if Aperture isn't seeing your Epson driver files. You might want to remove the Aperture plist file from your User>Library>Preferences folder and relaunch Aperture.

  • Cannot print from Aperture v.2.1.2 to an Epson Artisan 800 printer

I recently purchased an Epson Artisan 800 printer and I would like to be able to print from Aperture. Unfortunately, I have been unable to do so, in spite of multiple conversations with the Epson support group. I am able to print from other applications, such as TextEdit, Safari, and iPhoto. However, when I try to print from Aperture, I never get any output from the printer. Depending on the image that I try to print from Aperture, I will see an error message flash on the printer's display screen.
I captured the following error message from the "system.log" file:

I am having this problem on both my iMac G5 and my wife's MacBook. Both are running the latest versions of Mac OS X (10.5.6) and the latest version of Aperture.
If anyone has been able to print from Aperture to an Epson Artisan 800 printer, please let me know how you did it. Thanks.

I run 10.4.11 and am unfamiliar with that specific Epson. However step one with Epson troubleshooting is to do any OS updates then download and install the latest Epson driver, even if what you are using is current. The new install will simply install over the old installation. Repair Permissions via Disk Utility immediately before and again immediately after both the OS updates and the printer driver installation.
Once good Epson paper and a new driver installation are done the final step is to carefully follow Gary Ballard's excellent color management tutorials:
    <http://www.gballard.net/psd.html>
    Good luck!

P.S. Epson tech support for consumer printers has always been worse than useless. Specialized support for the pro printers is pretty good.

  • Buying a Book via Aperture is the worst experience I've ever had

I have given up trying to buy a book via Aperture forever. I've wasted an entire day trying to get this done, and Ive gotten nowhere, I have spoken to Apple Photo Services numerous times and followed everything they said to the letter and on four occasions it has failed to "Upload to files to the server"
I have checked my account, tried different payment methods, tried different ISPs (one being a 100mbps synchronous fibre MPLS circuit, so it's nothing to do with speed), I have deleted the Aperture keychain entry, exported the book to a separate library, even tried it on a different machine and still nothing.
I now have 4 orders currently "processing", at £58.94 each, so currently Apple have over £200 of my money authorised for transfer.
It is a real shame that Apple ignores these forums, and that Aperture is such a neglected program. At least I am not trying to run a business using this POS.
Part of me wants to go on an Aperture training course just to shout at someone from Apple.
Anybody know of a good 3rd party book printing services that can use the PDFs output by Aperture?

Once the book is printed you then have the frustration of tracking the book from the printworks near Prague, travelling for approximately 3 hours a day, eventually taking about a week to travel the 900 or so miles to the UK, if it gets stuck in Germany on a Friday evening it will not move again until the Monday morning.
Only one class of shipping is supported "Snail speed" it would be very nice to opt for a faster speed.
However once the book is handed over to the final recipient the obvious pleasure they get from it is fantastic compensation for the niggles.

  • Trying to print via wifi to epson stylus color 740 but can't

    Hi all,
I am trying to set up my just purchased PowerBook g4 to print via airport wifi to an epson stylus color 740. I have been printing to this printer from my old laptop without any problems but I forgot how I set it up. It had something to do with lpt1 protocols. Is that IP address setup? I am now trying to set it up through OS X 10.5.4 and the other laptop has OS X 10.3.9. The dialog box is a little different and gives me many options for connecting. Which one do I use? The printer is hard wired to my SMC router which is connected to my g4 tower.
I got as far as trying to print to the printer but it would say it was sending then says the printer is paused when it isn't.
On my Titanium g4 the settings are:
    printer name: lpt1on192.168.2.1 on 192.168.2.1
    location: unknown
    queue name: lpt1on_192.168.2.1_on192.168.2.1-1@g4tower
    host name:g4tower.local
These settings are working not only for the Titanium g4 but for 2 other IBooks in the house. I just don't know where to put the settings in Leopard.
    Thanks for any help,

Generally, there are two issues.  First, you must know which paper to select, and second you must specify a feed-method that allows the paper you want to be in the list.
Second thing first, as it's more tricky.
The paper selection in the "Media Type" drop-down of the Epson 3880 Print dialog (the second print dialog presented when printing from Aperture) is limited by the selection you make for "Paper Size" in the Printer section of the Aperture "Print" dialog.  To get "Fine Art" papers to show (and be selectable) in the Media Type drop-down, you must specify a Paper Size that allows those papers.  Anything marked "Manual" should suffice.
An example will be helpful  .  I print most of my work on Epson's Hot Pressed paper, which I purchase in boxes of sheets.  If I am printing to 8 ½ x 11 inch sheets, I do the following:
In Aperture, in the Printer section of the Print dialog, I select "US Letter (Manual - Rear)":
(This is the key.  Selecting "US Letter" will not allow me to specify the paper I want.)
When I click the button "Print", another Print dialog opens.  This one is specific to the printer (in this case, the Epson 3880).  In that dialog, I specify for "Media Type" on the "Basic" tab of the "Printer Settings" tab of the "Print" dialog "Hot Press Bright":
This shows in the drop-down menu, along with other papers which must be fed manually:
I hope that helps.  Non-Epson papers should come with instructions telling you the paper to select.  For instance, I also print to Hahnemühle Harman low-gloss papers.  These specify that I select "Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster", which I do:
In the above dialogs, you can see that I have created printer presets for the papers I regularly use.

  • Best Large Format Printer with Aperture 3.1 & 10.6.5??

I have an Epson R1800 and am not pleased with my print results. Prints are too dark and generally lack "pop". I have read through threads here and other places and tried a lot of suggestions ... all to no real improvement.
Simple question -- which larger format printer (13") are you using that works very well with Aperture?
    Thanks.
    Ken

    Hi,
I use the Epson R1900 with very good results. I never expect what prints well to look good either on my monitor, or on Slideshows transfered to video usage. If it looks good on my monitor, that is what I want the settings and adjustments to be locked into for my files. I think my monitor is very true -- some proof of this is evidenced by prints I have made via the print services I have available to me via SmugMug. Those prints (either Bay Photo or EZPrints per my choice) look just like what is on my monitor when shipped to me, and that is super! The print process fundamentally must compensate in some manner to achieve the backlit look of a monitor. I get very close to that in the prints from Aperture now, by using the Brightness and other controls in the Print Dialogue.

  • Connecting MacBook to printer via wireless network

I have a wireless network via cable modem with some PCs attached and a printer but am having trouble connecting my new MacBook to the HP LaserJet 2100 printer via wireless. I do not have airport express and not sure I need it to have the MacBook print to this printer. Please advise.

    Hi topgunner,
How is the printer connected? Are you trying to share it via a PC through wireless? Or is it connected directly to a router/hub that is enabled for printer sharing?

  • I cannot find the 'WPA passphrase' to connect my printer via wireless and cannot find it in Airport utility (MAC says it cannot find any open airports)

    MAC OS X 10.6.3 - desktop Mac
I browsed similar questions and saw that someone recommended going to the Airport Utility and then selecting manual set up or something- anyways, it could not find any airports. I have brought my printer from my house as my BF's has died - this is the first time it's asked for a WPA passphrase. We tried a very long series of capital letters and numbers as well as the password for the internet and both times the printer said "invalid passphrase"..... ......

Airport Utility is for administration of genuine Apple Base Stations. If you have a different Brand, Airport Utility can do nothing for you.
    I think they're using ethernet.
To connect a Printer via Ethernet, no password is needed.
We already tried the password for the internet and that did not work...
If a password is required to connect to the Internet, then WiFi is likley being used, and that WiFi password is the one needed for the Printer connect wirelessly as well.
What make&model Printer? Is it indeed a Wireless Printer? Most connect via USB, but that would force it to use a specific computer to assist in printing.

  • Laserjet 200 will print via wireless direct but intermittently (once) via wireless network

Tried various troubleshooters on Hp and Apple websites to get this working consistently.
Installed new drivers for OSX Yosemite 10.10 - thought all would work fine as went through installing, printing test page etc.  Then printer becomes unavailable - although it is on the list of printers.
Same thing has happened variuos times after re-installing it.
Will print directly via USB and wireless direct - but I want to print via the wireless network.
tried all the usual things - making sure on the right wireless network, restarting everything etc.
Using an airport router - are there some settings on this that may be causing an issue - odd though as will print once when initially connected to the wireless network.
    Any ideas?

  • Upload PDF directly to printer via Citrix from off-site computers

Is it possible to upload PDF documents directly to the newer HP printers, especially the business printers and copiers (MFDs)?  We have HIPAA-containing data that home-based users must print at work, and therefore cannot be sent via the cloud.
Our current printer vendor supports uploading PDFs directly, which our users are using.  The workflow involves printing via PDFCreator, then opening the web interface print tab of the device they are printing to and uploading, via a browse button, the PDF document.  The connection is handled through our Citrix remote access servers, everything is encrypted, and all data stays out of the cloud.
Because HP's ePrint is in the cloud, we cannot submit HIPAA-containing data via that route.
If no current HP products have that capability, can it be added?  I would think a firmware update to have an upload option would be very doable.  It appears that the ability to print PDFs is already present via ePrint--this would only be another way to submit a print job.
Our current printer vendor's device functionality includes being able to upload and print other print-ready formats, including .PCL and .PS files, but we aren't using that capability currently.  It would be nice to be able to upload .DOC/.DOCX formats directly.

    Hey SPS64,
Thank you for participating in the HP Consumer Support Forums!  The steps you desire are not going to be found on Consumer grade printers, but may be able to be found on some of the Enterprise level printers from HP.  I would advise posting this question on the Enterprise printing boards where there are many experts who would be willing to assist with your question.

  • Print via bluetooth direct to printer

I have the 8330 BB Curve (my 3rd blackberry) and I am trying to print directly from my bb to a printer via Bluetooth. Now I was in a store and made it work with a multifunction HP printer. I then took home a Canon IP100 portable and got a bluetooth adaptor. Canon, however does not support direct printing, only HP. So I returned it and got a portable HP H470, but the wi-fi version (couldn't get the bluetooth one easily) and tried putting the bluetooth adaptor in it, but cannot get it to print. Any suggestions?

    hello,
it is a HP H470 issue. Contact HP support and ask them if there is a way of using that device with a bluetooth adapter.

  • How do I get my PC to See my Photosmart 5515 Printer via my wireless network

I have recently purchased a Photosmart 5515 (B111h) printer and have followed the setup instructions to the letter. The printer is now connected to the wireless network with an IP address of 192.168.0.4. However I am unable to find it on the network using the HP setup software.
To test the connection I have set up eprinting and his works fine, so the printer must be connected to my route to be able to connect to the internet. I have run the printers wireless newtork test report and everything has come out "PASS"
I have tried turning off my personal firewall (Norton Internet Security 2012), but this has made no difference.
I have run the HP network diagnostics, this has not found the printer in (in the "HP printers found on your network" box) but does show it (in the newtwork devices list) as a device on the network with the IP address above and the name HPEC9A76C7CAB.
I have also tried to brows the printers internal web page at the IP address but I get nothing, the page is in a constant state of update (No "page not found message", but no page either). Eventually (over 5 min) it stop trying to update, the page remains bland but a "HP" logo appears in the page tab.
I have a samsung laser on the wireless network and this behaves perfectly and can easily be browsed.
I also had a Kodak, which I removed to be replaced by the HP which also behaved perfectly for nearly 2 years.
I am using a SKY router, which had been in use for several years now - without any problems.
I have also tried connecting the printer via USB. This worked fine, but when I tried to use the setup software to change the USB connection to a wireless one, it identified the the printer was already connected to my wireless network, but again could not find it.
I am pulling my hair out here (and i have not got much to spare) can anyone help me out with a solution?
    Thanks

    HI,
I do not have a "Devices and Printers" option when I click on the start, The only thing I have close to that is the "Settings" then the "Printers" option but that behaves nothing like you describe from step 2 onewards.
I did have a play with the printers though and tried to add a preinter manually. When I chose the option of the new printer to be wireless it found the printer and I was able to install a driver for it from the CD. So now I have the printer working..... BUT the HP 5510 family printer software still does not work, I still can not connect it to the printer and can not install the scanner.
If I run HP home diagnostics It still can not find the printer on the network. However (now that I have installed the printer manually) the HP printer diagnostics finds the printer straight away and tells me there are no problems with it!!.
This is a far from satifactory situation. I may have the printer working (not exactly sure how I managed this when the HP software still can not see it) but I have no scanner or access to the HP tools.
Has anyone got any Idea what is going on or how to fix it?
    Cheer
