Printing Webhelp Topics from online help

I tried to print off an individual topic from my online help
system. However, the table of contents printed out instead. I tried
to print out other help topics but the same thing happened. My
printouts were of the table of contents and not the topic. Does
anyone out there know how to fix this? Please let me know. Thanks.

Thanks. It worked.

    Hi
I've searched the list, but was unable to find any

How do you call a webhelp topic from the command line? What
    syntax would I use?

  • Is it possible to link a topic from another help file?

I apologized if topic has been discussed/answered. I was
wondering if it is possible to link a topic from another help file?
So, basically my client has a help file .chm that was created by
someone else. I am brought in to create another help file. so,
basically for the help file that i'm creating a topic call vacation
hours but this topic is already in the previous help file instead
of including that in the new help file can i create some see also
link to this topic in the previous help file and the topic vacation
hours from the previous help file display once someone click on the
link. please let me if this possible and how i can do this.
    thank in advance
    bob

    Hi, Bob, and welcome,
Yes, you can create links from one .chm file to another. The
    HTML syntax is as follows:
    <a
    href="TargetHelpFile.chm::/path_to/TargetTopic.htm">Link
    text</a>
    For example:
    <a href="htmlhelp.chm::/topics/chmweb.htm">Click here
    for more information</a>
To ensure that you're specifying exactly the right path
    information to the target topic:
    1) Open the target help file.
    2) Display the required topic.
    3) Right-click it and then, on the context menu, select
    Properties.
In the resulting properties dialog box, you can copy the path
information out of the Address field and abbreviate it
appropriately (you need the name of the target .chm file and
    everything that follows it).
For this type of link to work, the target help file must be
in the same folder as your source help file or in the Windows Help
folder, or it must be registered under the following key in the
    Windows registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\HTML Help

  • Launch webhelp Topic from a web application; problem calling another topic

My client has a web application for which I have created a WebHelp Help Guide.
    I have RH8 v8.0.2.208 running on Windows XP SP3.
When the user clicks a Help icon on the web app screen, it launches a corresponding Help topic. The developer has managed to launch the full Help Guide, at the required topic, by using something like "help/imrd_help.htm#edit_subject_details.htm". So far, so good: this works fine for the first topic.
But if the user leaves the Help Guide open, switches back to the web app, works through to another page in the web app, and clicks for a new Help Topic (say, "help/imrd_help.htm#add_new_user.htm"), the old topic stays on screen: the Help Guide does not update to the required Help topic.
Any ideas how to fix this please, so that it calls the new topic?
    Thanks.

  • Problems when printing help topics from OHJ

We have encountered some persistent problems when printing help topics from Oracle Help for Java (Ice Browser).
NOTE: When we print the same source files from Oracle Help for the Web, the printing problems are gone.
    (1) Spacing Errors (all printers had identical results)
Text with special formatting (<b>, <i>) often has either too much space or not enough space.
Links often have extra spaces underlined before or after the link, itself.
    (2) When printing multiple help topics from the TOC (an entire branch in the tree):
On some printers, no graphics print correctly, but instead print as one of the following: 1. empty box the size of one character, 2. black box the size of one character, 3. black box the size of the original graphic. We could not detect a pattern that caused 1, 2, or 3.
NOTE: all graphics are bit maps (screen captures) that were generated in the same manner.
NOTE: if these same help topics are printed one at a time form Oracle Help for Java, the graphics print fine.
Is this a problem with the Ice Browser?
    Thanks for the help,
    Wendy Studinski

There are a known issue with the ICEBrowser printing in some circumstances. The laying out of text by the ICE Browser relies on font metrics (being able to measure the width of a run of text in a given font). On screen it looks great, but when printing, even though the GraphicsConfiguration for the printer is being used, these widths are sometimes off, which can result in text running together at boundaries between text styles. We're not sure what to do about this problem, and we've reported it to IceSoft.
Not every font has this problem, so varying the font you are using might help the appearance when printed.
The other problem you report, problems with the images when printing multiple topics, is something that we will look into.

    Hi @Sunshyn2005
I timed-out waiting for advice, and contacted HP Support, who helped me get the printer back on the air.  While we didn't manage to root-cause it, in the course of trying various things, the tech disabled Norton 360's firewall, which then allowed connecting to the printer, and restoring print service, which remains up after re-enabling the firewall.
The timing of the disconnection doesn't neatly corellate with any Windows updates.  My own theory is that it was caused by a 360 update, but am unable to find a smoking gun, since 360 doesn't provide update history.  The exact root-cause remains a mystery, but at least provides another thing for folks to try should they find themselves in similar straits.
I really appreciated your hint that a Windows update might be the root cause, and your pointing out how to review the history and back-out updates: this morning, I found that Windows had installed a batch of updates overnight, and found that no browsers worked.  Using your advice, I rolled back the update, restoring browsing.
    Thanks,

I received a skype call from "Online help - Perform System Maintenance" and when I answered the phone, it was a computerized voice that started discussing that my computer, which happens to be a mac, is not running "very well." • Printing from a Help File

    Hello everyone!
I've been searching these forums and clicking on links for a couple hours now and haven't been able to find what I'm looking for. If this topic already exists, my apologies for the duplicate! Also, I'm a new-ish user to RoboHelp. Have never really received any training, I just usually figure things out by trial and error and by looking through the forums here. So if I give you useless information, hang in there! I just want to make sure that I give all the information that is required for this issue. Also...and most exciting...I just got the rest of the week off!! Five Day Weekend here I come! So I won't be able to add anything or answer questions till Tuesday!
I'm working in RoboHelp HTML 6. (I think version 099, if that matters.) I've created a Helpfile that we have loaded to our company website. When creating the file to upload to the website, I used WebHelp under Single Source Layouts. It all works wonderfully, but now some clients want to be able to print each module individually. I have created Print Documents for each module under Single Source Layouts and I've read about buttons to link to that so clients can print them but I can't figure out how to put the "button" in the main page of each module so the client can print it. Or if they use the Print button on their browser, how I link the Print Documentation to that page. (The print documentation is in PDF format.)
So what am I missing? How do I link the print documentation to the page in the online help document for clients to use?
    Have a fabulous weekend!!
    Cheryl

    Hi there
Here is how you do it. First, you add your print documents to the list of Baggage files. Just right-click the Baggage pseudo folder and add the file. After you do that, you are able to create links from topics to the baggage file. Just insert some text or an image, then select it and drag the baggage file from the Baggage files area to the selected text.
It really can't be much simpler than that, eh?
    Cheers... Rick

  • Coding advice needed for moving from CHM to 'true' Online Help

Apologies in advance if this is the incorrect forum for these questions. Apologies also if this is a little off-topic; I’m a tech-writer, and I use RoboHelp, but my questions are related to the underlying code that calls my Help files.
Currently we produce Help in RoboHelp 10, exporting it as a CHM, and we’re looking to provide this content online.
Our applications are written in a combination of VO (Visual Objects) and .NET (we’re slowly moving all the content over to .NET). This means that some of the Context ID calls to the Help .CHM are written in VO, others in .NET.
The plan is to modify these calls so that instead of calling a CHM file, they point to a web page address. Can anyone point me in the direction of some help regarding this? I’d really love to see some coding examples of where others are doing this same call to a web page.
The majority of our users have permanent online access. However, there are occasions where they might do an export of a patient’s data (our users are Doctors) and travel on-site, doing a ‘home visit’ for example. We have numerous users who live in remote regions of the country where there is poor or no Internet access. In such circumstances we need the code to detect that there’s no Internet access, and instead of trying to call a web page of Help content, the included local CHM file is called instead (i.e. the ‘traditional’ method of using a Context ID to display a locally-stored CHM Help file). Has anyone done this? I’d really like to see some code examples.

Colum is correct that WebHelp will give you an online help format but it will not be viewable from your server without a connection and that is one of your requirements. What you are looking for is known as Airplane help so that the user gets the latest online help when they have a connection and a perhaps older version when they are not.
How to do that with AIR Help is described on my site but my concern in pointing you in that direction is that I have not seen any new development on that help format. You need the same option with WebHelp and CHM help. I don't have a workflow for setting that up.
There is general information about calling help on my site and you will also find very good information at http://www.wvanweelden.eu

  • Printing all topics in a book in Webhelp format

How can users print all of the topics in a book of topics from the TOC? I know in .chm format, you can right-click a purple book, select Print from the shortcut menu, and then select the Print the selected heading and all subtopics option. However, I cannot find a way to do this in webhelp format. Is there a way?

In webhelp there isn't but you can get around this by creating a PDF and adding it to a topic.

MY envy 5330e has stopped printing anything from online sources but will print from on board documents or pictures.

    Hey @youngfmly,
Because your HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer is producing blank prints from three computers when printing from the the internet I'm wondering if there may actually be a hardware ink system issue occuring. I understand that this may sound odd as everything else appears to print fine. However, when printing from your computers colour ink is used to enrich the black ink when printing in certain programs. Primarily when the computer 'sends' the print job to the printer as an image file. Therefore, just to ensure that your printers ink system is functioning properly, I am going to have you print a standalone Print Quality Report.
How to Print the Quality Report:
Load plain white paper in the paper tray.
On the printer control panel, touch the Settings icon (), and then touch Tools. The Tools Menu displays.
Touch Print Quality Report. The printer prints the test page.
If this report prints perfectly: Than the issue that you're experiencing is not related to the printer. Rather, there is likely a setting that still  needs to be checked under Google Chrome. If your modem/router was causing this issue all prints would be affected.
If this report prints with quality defects or missing colours: Than the Google Chrome printing issue that you're experiencing is being caused by your printer. To resolve this print system issue can I please have you click here. Once the support document opens please run through Solution six, Solution seven, and Solution eight. This includes any sub-steps under the listed Solutions.
Please let me know the result of printing this standalone Quality Report. I look forward to hearing from you!

I can go to internet explorer and print from online quickbooks

Can you try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if Firefox works properly with no error? You can start Firefox in Safe Mode below:
*'''Windows/Mac''': Go to Help > Restart with add-ons disabled
*'''Linux''': Run ''firefox -safe-mode'' in the Terminal/Konsole
If Firefox opens up fine with no problems, it's probably one of your extensions that's causing the issue. You can re-enable your add-ons one by one until you find the one that causes the issue upon being re-enabled.
