Priority in PS Networks

Hi Guys,
I am not able to get the priority field for Std. Network header which is available for operative network header. I am able to have it for activities and not for network header. How do i get it?
Regards,
Pavalavel.

Dear pavalavel
Priority is generally used for the approval process, which exists only for the operative networks not for standard networks.

  • Any kind of bandwith limiting or priority for specific network services ?

I tried IPQoS to limit the bandwith for a ftp-service. This is very well documented in the IPQoS Administration Guide, but it seems to have no effect at all in my lan. The ftp-transfer still consumes all
available bandwith and any other interactive traffic like ssh is slow as hell. I think this is due to the fact that i do not have a diffserv capable router. Is it correct that IPQoS in Solaris 9 only marks packages but don't do anything else ?
    My kstat output says:
    "kstat -m tokenmt"
    module: tokenmt instance: 10
    name: tokenmt statistics class: meterftp
    crtime 171043.6888275
    epackets 0
    green_bits 369888
    green_packets 196
    red_bits 205079496
    red_packets 18160
    snaptime 174628.7017885
    yellow_bits 0
    yellow_packets 0
Nearly all packets are marked red and the target for red packets is markAF31 with dscp_map{0-63:26}.
Strange to see that "kstat -m dscpmk" shows no results at all. This is possible a bug or not well
documented in the IPQoS Administration Guide.
Is there any (other) way to priorize interactive traffic or limit/shape the bandwith for specific services without additional Hardware in my network ?

You may have already resolved your problem, but here is what I've been using -- I'm just recently (like two days ago) trying IPQoS.
As you can see from my code I really restricted bandwith so I could see the reaction, and tested with a specific machine so it wouldn't mess with other stuff. Turn on ftp hash and watch it crawl. I've only tested outgoing so far, but will also test incoming.
We are not using DiffServ on our routers, so I just drop 'red' packets. I'm using yellow just to play and get stats.
Am looking for tools to read the flowacct data when I came across your post.
    good luck!

  • EAP-SIM Wifi network priority

    Hello,
I have a Z10, and my cellular carrier which is also my internet carrier, configures automatically a community wifi network with an EAP-SIM logon.
The problem is when I come at home my Z10 selects the community wifi network and not my personal wifi network.
I tried several time to change the priority of the networks in the wifi settings, but the community wifi network, (which is created by the SIM Chip!!) always come back in first priority...
    Can you help me.

    Hello,
Yes,I have "Re-ordered my wifi list", It is what I call "Set the Wifi Priority"...
And Yes the EAP-SIM Wifi come back to the top after a while...
Disable the network is not an option for me: the spirit of a community network is not to turn it off!! If everybody turn it off, there is no more community
And the deleting option is not available in this wifi setup... surely becase it is an EAP-SIM configuration.
I have made some test this saturday, on a friend Galaxy S3 with the same carrier:
There is absolutly no problem on Android: the order of the wifi list does not move alone and this order is respected for the connexion.
I really hope Blackberry can correct the behavior in the OS.

  • Dual network switching

I have a multi-network adapter workstation. Lets say its a ethernet and a wifi. The ethernet is somewhat restrictive, blocking alot of blogs and other resources, and is behind a proxy server that f*** things up for some indie-apps that i use (such as genymotion), but it is ultra-fast. The wifi in another hand is open and not behind a proxy, but is slow... dead-slow... 75kbps max speed slow...
Everyday I have to keep removing the ethernet cable so the wifi takes over... I want a better, more cooperative solution... What I'm looking for is a configuration that gives me something like "Try first using the ethernet connection, if that fails, try using the wifi"! a even better solution would be MPTCP, but that is a long shot... So any ideas on how to do this?

    Using Mavericks (latest version)
    Macbook Pro Retina (early 2013)

    Hi Index.xp,
Given your description of the issue, you may want to consider creating different Network Locations for each interface, which can be switched between from the Apple menu. At minimum, this would prevent you from having to manually pull the Ethernet cable. Another option would be to make sure the port priority is set so that Airport is above Ethernet, then leave Airport turned off unless you need it as described. • Network communication Xacute applets client - Mii server

    Hi all,
I have a rather technical question.
Does anybody know what goes on from a network communication point of view when an applet on a irpt-page gets executed and fetches data from the Mii server?
Do these applets use RMI or some other method?
It's because we might have network issues, and I would like to know how the applets work on network level.
    Our architecture is as follows:
On the client an irpt page is displayed in a browser (MSIE).  The irpt page contains applets generated by Xacute queries.  We also rely a lot on JS.
The client application communicates with the Mii server over the WAN.
So if someone can tell me which ports are used by the applets, would be great!
    W.

Ok, on the server side indeed the applets connect to 5nn00.  I love the debug option!
Now, on our WAN we have defined a QoS, for traffic prioritizing.  So certain port numbers (or ip-adresses) get priority over the network.  We added port 52000 (used by Mii) to this QoS, but unfortunately the traffic does not get prioritized.
The problem is that on the client side (Mii HTTP application), we cannot control which ports are opened (that's the OS).
On client side it could be port 4000 to 65999 or something.   When we do port-prioritizing, this can never work.
So how do we configure our QoS?  Prioritize everything going to and coming from the Mii server?
Anyone experience with that?  I know it's not directly related to SAP and Mii, but when working with Mii one stumbles onto all kind of technologies
    cheers!

  • X6 16gb always asking for me to select network, ho...

I have had my phone for a few days now and im getting the hang of it and liking it more each day but its continuously showing me a task bar like screen and asking me to select network and it has a choice of wireless lan and a uncatorgorised one, what I want to no is how do I stop it from asking me this, my net works fine and I have no probs with any connetion but this thing is driving me nuts, it sometimes asks me 4 or 5 times every ten minutes, please help me

Have you tried setting the priority of the networks, so your home network is number 1?
To do this goto Settings - Connectivity - Destinations - Internet - Select your network - Options - Organise - Change Priority and move it to the top.
Once this is done, double click on you home network, scroll to the bottom and change Use Access Point to Automatically from After Confirmation
Also, if you go to Settings - Connectivity - Wireless LAN, if the network appears in here that you don't want to connect to, click on it, select Options, Filter Networks and place a cross next to it
Hopefully this will stop the messages...

  • E2500 Guest Network Bandwitdh Throttle?

    Greetings,
I currently use a E2500 router for my home network. I have setup the Wireless guest Network for my downstairs Tenant while he is out of work so he can still have some internet. The problem however is that often the guest network will take up 90% of my 55mb/sec bandwidth, leaving none for the primary network. Is there a way for me to Throttle the amount of bandwidth the Guest network can use? Say alot 10mb/sec for Guest access only, and leave the rest for our main network?
Any help with regards to this would be very helpful as even though my tenant is down on his luck, if this continues I'll have to remove the guest network completely.
    Thank you.

it's ashame theres no way to restrict the Guest Network, I would think thats an excellent addition to Future routers.
I know he was using about 90% of the bandwidth by the following: we have 3 computers on the main network, 2 wired, 1 wireless. i have a bandwidth download ability of ~55mb/sec with him online on the guest network my wired main computer was suddenly getting ~0.5mb/sec. I unhooked the other wired computer and the wireless devise on the main network and re-tested and still only had 0.5mb/sec
so the guest network had takin over 90% of the net and the router was not re-assigning equal priority to both networks. I had to turn off the guest network and then back on 30seconds later, and I was suddenly back up to full bandwidth.

  • I am quite fed up with Apple and my iMac - multiple issues

I've been a Windows user for years. I've suffered through all of the ups and downs of Windows over the years, mostly the downs. I have three Windows 7 computers, and quite frankly, both have performed quite beautifully, albeit without the polish of the Mac.
Earlier this year, I decided to buy an iMac for a few reasons. First, they are just so beautiful, and even if you are going to run Windows they are probably the best Windows computers out there. Second, I wanted to do more video editing and found the Windows tools weren't very good. I also wanted to run some karaoke software (kJams) that at the time was not available for Windows.
I was basically pleased with the iMac for a few months. However, there was one problem I could never solve: the wifi connection got lost periodically, even though I had made all of the system updates. I know this is a problem with the iMac, because my numerous Windows PCs and my two iPod toouches had no problem with a wifi connection. It appears from various posts here that this is indeed a problem many others have experienced since Snow Leopard's release, and as far as I can tell, despite many updates to the Airport software it has never been fixed by Apple. Strike 1.
A couple of weeks ago, my iMac started running slow for no reason I could identify. I don't have a lot of software installed on it, I didn't download anything pirated or questionable. I did install bootcamp according to Apple's instructions, and it worked fine (I wanted to run some Windows games). I tried doing all of the things that folks suggest when your computer is running slow - repairing permissions, running Onyx, etc. None of them seemed to do anything. I tried creating a new user, it had the same problem. I also noticed various other problems with the computer: it was slow to recognize a USB hard drive (and sometimes didn't recognize it at all), external hard drives would not appear in the time machine set up, and various other problems I can't quite recall. Overall, while presumably nothing serious should have been wrong with my computer, I decided I probably should simply reinstall OS X. Strike 2.
Now, quite frankly I would have been happy to simply reset the computer to its factory state. I would point out that nearly all Windows PCs come with a separate repair partition where it is very easy to do that with one click. I guess Apple is so confident in the reliability of its computers it doesn't think this is a useful feature. So, I had to install OS X using the DVD that came with the computer. It took quite a while to do this, and actually it wasn't at all clear to me that my settings would be kept (one would think that this is something the install screen would point out - Windows makes a quite clear distinction between a "clean install" and a re-install).
I was somewhat pleased when all of my settings were there. After the long process of reinstalling, I click on the "Accounts" setting I get a message saying that the Preferences application has quit unexpectedly -- clearly there are still problems. Quite irritating given that I just spent an hour trying to re-install the OS. I google around and again find others have had this problem, but unfortunately none of the proposed fixes I try seem to work. And my computer still seems to have other problems - it still doesn't recognize external drives very well. I will say that it seemed to be running a little faster though. Strike 3.
Anyway, I decide I need to do a full clean install. When I do that, things seem to be working better, although the mouse pointer is quite jerky - I'm thinking that maybe I need to just run software update to fix that. I start the software update - a nice 1gb download is required. Now ,the problem is that I STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM WITH WIFI DISCONNECTIONS. So no matter how many times I start the download, I CAN"T FINISH IT. And Apple, in its infinite wisdom, HAS NOT WRITTEN A DOWNLOADER THAT IS SMART ENOUGH TO CONTINUE WHERE IT LEFT OFF. How hard is this to do, really? Do I now have to lug my iMac across the house to put it on a wired connection? I've already wasted hours trying to get this piece of junk working.
And the sad fact is, once I am done, I will have a very beautiful computer that can't hold an internet connection.
I have to give Apple kudos for the iMac hardware. It's great. But the software? It's fine as long as it works. But it doesn't always work - and when it doesn't, it actually at this point seems more buggy and difficult to repair than Windows. Is this the last Mac I'll ever buy? Probably. Quite frankly, it's hard to avoid the conclusion that Apple's best developers have moved on to more exciting pastures (iPhone for example). And given the number of unsolved issues posted on these forums (including the ones I mention here), it appears that Apple engineers are simply asleep at the switch.

Let me start by saying I don't use wireless so I haven't had to deal with it, and I assume you know your way around all the settings in your modem/switch and Windows 7.

How do I change from WEP to WPA security, which I have been told is better. I'm sure it is simple but i cant find it.
These settings are in your wireless router, so you will have to consult the manual for how to access the administration page and change the wireless security settings. Once you have WPA or WPA2 enabled, you will need to reauthenticate your computer with the wireless network since you will have a new password. If you have problems with persistent password requests popping up, you will need to open the "Keychain Access" utility and remove all keychain entries associated with your wireless network and password.

Networking In networking utilities, the in-depth network troubleshooting and monitoring utility VisualRoute ($49.95) has been updated to fix a bug with the "whois" routine, and likewise the Wi-Fi hot spot finder AirRadar ($19.95) has also been updated with a small bug fix for the signal status not updating.
The network administration and security testing utility NetScan (free) has also been updated and now has a revamped interface and new features for port scanning as well as fixes for icon appearance and update-checking problems.

As for restore, it is different, won't be the same, but there are two ways to handle that on a Mac:
    Apple TimeMachine
Clone OS X: bootable (yes, you can boot from 2nd or 3rd hard drive) - SuperDuper ($29) is superb and I update the backup (15 minutes) before applying updates.
That way I have my previous system with all data, not just an image, all my data and going back in time.
    From another thread:
if you have issues when using an AirPort router, you've either got interference issues causing your problems or a system issue.
    whenever possible:
    1) Vist an Apple Store
    2) Try your machine on their network
    3) If the connection drops, make them fix it.
Reason being, I've tried and checked log after log and have never seen a connection drop inside an Apple Store.
My gut reaction would be interference but the easiest move may be to check it in an Apple Store if at all possible.

If you connect to the Internet or a network in several different ways (using AirPort or Ethernet, for example), you can change the order of the network port configurations your computer tries when connecting to the Internet or a network.
To change the priority of a network port configuration:
    1) Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Network.
    2) Choose Set Service Order from the Actions pop-up menu.
    3) Drag a service, such as Ethernet, to the top of the list. When you try to connect, Mac OS X will try the port configuration at the top of the list.©
Tip: Any Network Device listed here that you'll never use for a Network Connection should be set to 'Inactive'.

  • No Audio, possibly related to iTunes or FCP

    Hello,
This is my first post in Apple support discussions and while I did do a search to find a solution to my problem, I was unable to find one, so if this happens to be a repost, my humble apologies.
I'm having an intermittent audio problem where there is no audio and when I attempt to adjust the volume, the volume overlay appears with the meter completely full and a no/forbidden sign beneath, and pushing the volume adjustment buttons or attempting to adjust the volume slider does nothing. This problem has persisted for about a month or so and has happened upon startup, and while using various programs, but most notably when using Final Cut Pro or iTunes. The problem seems to start and go away randomly.
I also did a Google search and some forums suggest it may be a problem with flash player and a possible fix is to open Garage Band or to open Audio Midi Setpup and ensure the Format is 44.1kHz and 16bit. The Garage Band method works sometimes and my Audio Midi Setup is always at 44.1 and 16bit.
FYI: I'm running an iMac 2.8 w/ 4GB RAM and my Audio (Built In) info is:
    Device ID: 0x106B00A0
    Audio ID: 50
Thanks in advance for your help!

Any takers? I have since tested streaming using airport direct from my powerbook to the AE, and also using ethernet via the netgear switch. It is seems to be working perfectly without dropouts when I use airport and not ethernet to connect to the AE. But if I use ethernet (via the netgear) to the AE i get these dropouts.
I see that this netgear switch apparently has some packet priority feature to allow some level of priority for certain network traffic over others. Does iTunes stream in some way that is considered "low" priority? This is super annoying, and I am thinking I will have to return the switch... what a pain...

  • How to get rid of 802.1x 'Default Authentication'?

    Hi All,
Everytime I close my MBP's lid, put it to sleep, or simply turn it on...  My wifi is no longer connected.
this all started ever since I decided to 'Turn Off Wifi' the very first time since I got my MBP this year 2011, in June.
Whenever I do any of the above (put MBP to sleep etc) then get back to working.. My Safari says I'm not connected to the internet.
And I see my Wifi signal "blinking" and trying to connect. So I go to my Network preferences and see this:
There's that '802.1X: Default Authenticating' that appears below my wireless network's name..
After which i have to Disconnect from twice - 1 time, before it tries to "authenticate" again.. and then a 2nd time.. and then it stops completely,
Then i have to proceed to click and choose my network again and re-enter my password just to get the Airport/Wifi working again..
Someone please give me a solution to get my Wifi to automatically connect whenever I switch on my MBP - and to get rid of this annoying 802.1X which does nothing and just continues to try and "authenticate" with no result.
It would be very very much appreciated! Thank You!
PS. I did read somewhere online about 802.11g newer wirelss network cards and how they may have issues with an 802.1x network etc..
Don't really understand it though. Please explain if you could. Cheers

Realized that OSX Lion as re-prioritized my Wi-Fi to the bottom of the list.
What I had to do was place it in first priority again in Network settings.
Quite a disappointment from OSX Lion since in OS Snow Leopard that was the default setting - and certainly a hassle for newbie Mac users like myself who may be clueless when faced with these "issues"
Also attached above is the picture that for some strange reason disappeared in the original post..

    (true line breaks): sanity.
    In cmd, please introduce `rm`.
Then in both, powershell and cmd, add alias switch to `-Force` (yucky) as `rm -f`.
Again in both, let us provide list of files: `rm [optional: switches list] [mandatory: files or folders, mixed list]`.
Currently it works with one at a time.
Make CLIs work with long paths right off the bat (think beyond 255 chars, and welcome to 2015: the Node.js deep-nested-modules world, which renders Windows miserable!). Case in hand: https://github.com/npm/npm/issues/3697#issuecomment-62281110
SSH, SFTP, SCP in all shells!! If you don't believe me, ask WolfarmAlpha or your own telemetry about the universal importance of SSH and related protocols. (or ask Mads Krsitensen and Scott Hanselman). Would be gigantic, if we could
    mount SSH in File Explorer.
    We can say:  cat "file.ext" | processor --parameter1 --parameter2
,  but we cannot say cat "file.ext" | processor --parameter1 --parameter2 > anotherFile.ext (I mean in poweshell). Guys b.a.s.h IS a standard, believe it or leave it.
Ask VC team to implement `getopt.h` (and its long variant; basically borrow it from POSIX, GCC, Apple). Or atleast help me fighting with the standards guys:
https://groups.google.com/a/isocpp.org/forum/?fromgroups#!searchin/std-proposals/getopt/std-proposals/CNDl0nYrlko/BiOCEh7epngJ (looks like I am the only person using Windows, reasons are obvious). Since PS accepts mixed mode paths (/path/to/heaven
\path\to\heaven) and options (/s, -s, --word and even -word, as in -Force <--- this is
really insane!), it will be bit more complex. You guys can really reboot your decision on forward-slash switches (at least). But please, do
    something in this arena too.
Equip CLI (and IE) with modern content-types ASTs, such as, XML, JSON and YAML (borrow from VS team).
Love CLI, it will only make the world a better place.
CLI has its perks but better reception and attention to detail would definitely connect bridges between Windows and #RestOfTheWorld.
Thanks for your patience and I am eagerly looking forward to any
CLI related developments in Windows 10.

As close to the water as possible...

  • E72 and Smart Connect, how do I get it to work?

    Hi All
Just been given an E72 from work and have read about smart connect, I have it all set up but it won't work, and to be honest I don't really understand what I'm doing!
Can somebody please provide and idiots guide for me.
All I want it to do is connect to my home wifi when at home, the 3G when out and about (or any free wifi if available)
It can't be that difficult but I just can't seem to get my head round it.
    Many thanks
    Richard

    Hi richardj5
    Welcome to the forum!
Firstly on a E72 of which history was unclear you do need to ensure that you visit this link and scroll down to the bottom of the page for download:

You might like to look at this thread:
    E72 Smart Connect Issues
You are looking to find that you have set up Smart Connect as a Destination in Menu > Ctrl. panel > Settings > Connection > Destinations > Smart Connect
Taking grschinon advice in my case WLAN is Priority 1 and Network is Priority 2 as here:

  • Can I have cable modem connected to iMac but shared with Airport Express?

I have my internet access to my iMac through a cable modem wired to the Mac. I use the Airport Express to play music from the Mac wirelessly to my stereo. Can I then share the internet access I have on the iMac through the AX without actually connecting the modem to the AX? The wiring is easier to get to the Mac than it would be to get wiring from the cable modem to the Airport Express at the stereo. I want to be able to access the internet wirelessly from a PC laptop that I also have.
    Thanks

Yes, you can do that. Using the AirPort Utility, you would set the AirPort Express up to create a wireless network giving it whatever name you want. When it gives you an error message that nothing is connected over ethernet, you can click the button to ignore that message and it will perform as you are requesting.
Note that if your internet connection stops working when you do this, then you may need to change your network port priority so ethernet is higher than AirPort.

  • Airport as default in Leopard?

I take my MBP to work every day and then back home every night. At work I plug it straight into a switch and at home I use a router. When I had Tiger, if I plugged in the ethernet cable it would automatically use that connection as default and only use airport if the ethernet wasn't available. Since I upgraded to Leopard though it always uses Airport as the default connection regardless of whether or not you have ethernet plugged in or not. Since there is an open wireless connection available at work, I have to turn airport off in order to force it to use a the wired connection. This is really annoying and I was wondering if anyone knew how to get it back to the way it was before.

They go in the order that they are connected. So if Airport is connected then it's on top or if ethernet is then it's on top.
I found this in the System Preferences Help and I'm still looking for it:
To change the priority of a network port configuration:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Network.
Choose Set Service Order from the Actions pop-up menu.
Drag a service, such as Ethernet, to the top of the list. When you try to connect, Mac OS X will try the port configuration at the top of the list.
I don't see any Actions popup menu, but I'll keep looking.

  • RE: Two Ethernet cards on one PC

    Hello All
some one mailed me a message requiring a problem we had a while ago about
two Ethernet cards on one PC. Unfortunately I accidentally deleted the
message before responding to it, so if I post the answer here maybe they
    will see it.
We got two Ethernet cards to work with LabVIEW by giving them different
address. I.E. Card 1 had address 123.456.FFF.001 and card two had
234.567.FFF.001. Card one was connected to the network and card 2 was
connected to the unit we wanted to test. We think that LabVIEW uses the
address to determine which card is being used. Anything connected to card 1
must be on the same domain in order for it to work I.E. 123.456.XXX.XXX
    where X = any hex number from 1 to F )( the same for card 2 )
    We didn't
test this theory, but our system is working and it is the best explanation I
    can come up with.
    Chuck Stewart

You are right except that it is NT that is figuring out which to use base on the
ip you are addressing. It has the bindings and their priority in the network
set up. We use two cards, one for the company network and another that is a
local connection to the unit under test. No problems at all with NT.
